The mohawk house is fantastic. One of the coolest atmospheres you can ask for but one thing you need to remind your self of is that this place thrives off of regulars. Some of the same people every night . I have yet to see a place with a beer selection like the mohawks. The food is even better. Nice place and well done inside. I haven't ordered much from the kitchen, but from what I've had, it's been quite good. It will impact your wallet and the bar is not the easiest to get a drink at. It is loud; ear damaging loud, but energetic with solid bands on the weekends. If you like upscale places, this is the place to go. read more

Assisted in arranging and attended a couples' wedding shower for 35 people at Mohawk House on May 31. The staff did a great job with the preparations for the event which was held in a private room that nicely accommodated the guests. The wait staff was courteous and efficient, there were interesting and tasty beers to try and the food was very good. Feedback from those who were there has been very positive. Not impressed on any level. Food was quite uninspired and horribly overpriced. But, it was our waiter who made the evening really memorable. He forgot to bring my meal. Which, in retrospect, was actually doing me a favor. Our party of three had four appetizers, one salad, two glasses of wine and three cocktails that were sorely lacking in alcohol. I was very disappointed in my experience here. We went out for Valentines Day and the tables were packed so closely together I felt like I was eating with the people next to me. It was very uncomfortable, and awkward to be so squeezed together. For the amount of money we paid for dinner, I would have thought they would make their guests more comfortable. Not worry about how many people they could cram in a room. They were out of several beers, which makes no sense if you are advertising your huge beer selection. Then we went to get our car, and waited outside in zero degree temperatures for 25 minutes for valet to get our car. I will say the food was wonderful but the entire experience was a huge disappointment. read more

I went to this restaurant for the first and last time. I have been out of town for the last 10 months and have experienced great food and wine in that time. My wife and I picked two specials from the menu-Lobster cappellini and Catfish. The lobster cappellini was lacking in lobster and the catfish was soggy. Not enough attention to detail. The wine list was overpriced and the wine by the glass for the price was mediocre. This is a place with all show and no substance. I have been going to Mohawk House for the last few years. Well all I can say is that, especially in the last year or so I continue to come back time after time, because the food is exceptional. The Mohawk House is awesome. The food is a little pricey, as if you were in NYC. However, it is quality food, made with fresh ingredients and prepared in a sophisticated manner. The beer selection is good for tap beer. The bottled beer selection is not so good, and that beer can be warm. The best time to go to the bar is happy hour with great food specials, or after 8:00 pm when the band starts up and it turns into a local club. read more

Visited Mohawk House last night (Thursday, October 23) with three other people. Overall we were totally disappointed. The only good thing about our experience was the waitperson, Peter. The food was absolutely dreadful. Two of the meals were inedible. The salmon had to be sent back to be cooked. And the lobster was so tough it could not be eaten at all. Two of the guests had travelled up from Bergen County to enjoy what was anticipated to be a pleasant evening. It was definitely not. We have crossed the Mohawk House off our list of restaurants permanently. read more

12/19/15 Went with my wife to the Mohawk House for the first time after hearing some great reviews and we were both not let down!! From the moment we walked in we were warmly greeted and seated. Water poured,hot rools and butter placed at our table with a grand view of the huge fireplace. Our waiter for the evening Craig came by to welcome us to the restaurant gave us a little history of the place and explained to us all of the great local products utilized to make there culinary delights. We both started out with craft beers (as I recall they have about 50) and we each have a salad. The endive salad as was the ceasar expertly prepared with crisp lettuce and both were fantastic. Next the entree's!!! I had a Duck Breast which was prepared to order and taste and plate prezentation were representative of 5 star. Next my wife had the Lobster Pie which was filled with fresh lobster meat and fantastic fluffy shell pastry. Following this we had Windy Brow Apple Pie with vanilla ice cream and a grand sauce drizzled over the top!! What a superb meal!! There for the third time and their food was not very good and the price tag of 660 not including tip left a bad taste in my mouth and will never go back . I'd give ZERO stars if possible. In my opinion, this is a very shady restaurant. I absolutely DO NOT recommend it to anyone. Their valet damaged the rear passenger side of my truck - they caused dents. I know they damaged it because I washed my truck that morning and there were no dents, I wouldn't have been able to miss the dents. The only place I went after washing the truck was to The Mohawk House in Sparta NJ and the only place I went afterwards was home. When I left, it was dark and raining and the valet pulled up to me with the driver side facing me, so I could not see the damage. The next morning I noticed the damage. I spoke with them on Tuesday and was instructed to get an estimate and take pictures which I did. After presenting them with the estimate and pictures I was informed they were denying my claim because the restaurant wasn't busy that night (not true) and because the valet wouldn't have noticed the damage they caused (great excuse for denying it), which they consider minor. The passenger side is dented and the initial estimate was $700. I offered to take the truck to an autobody of their choosing, also denied. Mohawk House has done absolutely nothing, yet you basically have to use the valet. There is no self-parking in their lot. You drive up their driveway and surprise- there's a valet. They have a responsibility here but are conveniently washing their hands of the entire situation. Classless. I wouldn't expect this from a restaurant trying so very hard to be upscale. Also, all it takes is a quick search on Yelp to see the valet they use, Classic Valet of New Rochelle NY, has terrible reviews!! Yet Mohawk House chooses to force their patrons to use Classic Valet anyway. I'll never go back. read more

They have the best beer list I have ever seen. Had some of the bar food; pork sliders are really good, not drowned in barbecue sauce so you can actually taste the pork, and the sweet potato wedges with maple cream dipping sauce are perfect (made to order, not frozen sweet potato fries). Tuna tartar is very good, not dressed up with soy/other condiments, very straight forward dish. Mussels with curry nage was very good with an interesting choice of broth as opposed to a standard white wine garlic sauce. Pizzas are good, quesadillas are also good. Regular dinner menu sounds/looks amazing, but is too expensive for me, especially with drinks included. Definitely want to get an entree next time. I'm sure the steaks and duck leg confit and foie gras and scallops and fish are all delicious and beautifully presented. Oh, and they have an artisan cheese list. I also don't know what people are talking about with bad service because I have always had very good service even on Valentine's day weekend (an outrageously busy time in the restaurant industry). have gotten take out from there a few times. Usually it is ok, not great just ok. Tonight I slpurged and went with the fois gras and scallop app. It is the worst fois gras I have ever had. It way overcooked and very small portion for the price. The 2 scallops looked like it had been one big scallop cut in half. The potato pancake was mostly burned on the outside and mushy on the inside. Now for the petite filet sandwiches. It was one big sandwich cut in half on a hoagie roll. The onions were good but not what I would call caramelized. I asked for medium rare meat. It was more medium to medium well. I was expecting nice long/shaved slices. It was cut into small strips or cubes which made it very hard to eat as pieces of meat kept falling out of the sandwich evry time I took a bite. The french fries were ok. Not worth $14. Now for dessert. I ordered the molten chocolate cake. When I called to order I asked who ever took my order not to heat the cake as I would do it myself at home. She told me that each cake is cooked to order so I just went with it. Now being a restaurant professional, specifically a pastry chef and someone who knows how to make this cake, I know this not to be true unless you are at a real fine dining restaurant somewhere in Manhattan etc. What I got was the most dissapointing of my life. The cake was indeed cold as I asked for but, was only 3/4 of an inch tall. I put it in the microwave for 30 seconds. No molteny warm gooiness whatsoever. Just overcooked warm chocolate cake. The scoop of ice cream was literaly 2 teaspoons. I could read a newspaper through the caramel sauce it was so light. The raspberries looked good but rather tasteless duh oh!! It's January people. Definitely not worth $9. My total bill was $48 and change. What a waste of money. Will not be going there again. Could have gotten a better value at Kroghs or the St. Moritiz. read more

I received a gift card from my co-workers to this restaurant. We were excited about trying a new place as the restaurant was about 15 miles from our house. We went and even though the dining room was pretty much empty the seated us upstairs next to a party room. The service was terrible and in my 52 years of going out to dinner I had never sent a meal back. I did at this restaurant. After returning home I wrote the restaurant an email voicing my displeasure with the food and service. I received a call apologizing and was told we must have hit it on an off night. I received a $75. Gift card to come back and try again. Fast forward to tonight 8 months have gone by so we tried it again tonight. Terrible, forget that we had to ask for salt and pepper, forget that the service was awful we got our entrees my wife and I ordered the same thing, surf and turf. The waitress after receiving our entrees never came over to check if everything was ok. We would have said my steak was rare very very rare, my wife ordered her steak medium well, it was medium rare. The potatoes were cold and the vegetables ice cold. Never never again even with the gift card of $75 no drinks, no dessert our check was 130.00. I ate here years and years ago and remember being very satisfied. Recently I started living back in the area and returned for a holiday dinner with co-workers - it surpassed my expectations once again. Yes, it is a bit pricey but I have to say if you have a great evening with wonderful service and food it really is worth it. Nothing is worse than paying top dollar for a night out only to rate the place a 2 out of 5. This place is worth the money. From the minute we walked in to the moment we left the service and attention we received was outstanding. We had pre dinner drinks at the bar and then wine and beer with dinner - the election of both were great. We were given a nice table in the main dining area next to the fireplace. The variety of "specials" on the menu was nice and the food was all cooked perfectly. We shared a few appetizers and almost each of us got a different main course and there were no complaints at all. First I'd like to say that I've been to Mohawk house a few times always sitting at the bar. Today however is feb 13 2016 and I took my wife for a nice dinner had lobster Mac and cheese and a nice carrot and ginger soup. Now the good part. The waiter or should I say two waiters talked me into the water buffalo rib eye that was selling out like wildfire. I took there advice having eaten buffalo before. It came out as a dried t bone not even salt or pepper. Horrible to say the least. I sent it back. They took it off the bill. Asked to speak with the owner just to see if he had any other issues with this cut. He was standing about 20 ft from me and never came to my table. Some young kid came over to talk to me. I don't know why. My guess is they were trying to cover up this 49.00 steak that was garbage. Meanwhile my wife ate her meal alone on Valentine's Day. Oh well. Not to professional Mohawk house. Love the rust button up sweater though. Just in addition I just figured out that they gave me a porterhouse instead of the ribeye. Not even buffalo. Wow. I came to this restaurant like I usually always do and had an experience like I've never had before. My waitress seemed as if it was her first day. I heard the hostess tell her that's your table and 5 minutes later she finally came to us with no bread. She took our order and we did not see her until our food came. We never got silverware and she gave me a dirty plate which she tried to pick the food of. She never checked on us or made eye contact with us when she walked by. When our food came she never asked us how it was. It took me forever to get her attention to tell her we wanted the check. I gave her the money and we finally got our bread. I gave her cash and it took her awhile for her to give the check back to us with the extra cash. She probably thought all of the cash was hers. Food was amazing though of course. Normally to work there you have to have past experience and be personable but I guess that changed. read more
