I had balayage highlights and a trim done on December 2nd, totaling $708 including tip. Within 4-5 days I noticed my highlights turning brassy, and by day 7-8 they were extremely brassy. I reached out to Mola on day 8 to ask about coming in for another toner. Due to scheduling conflicts, I wasn't able to come back until December 23rd. A toner was applied, which I assumed would be complimentary given how quickly the brassiness appeared, but paid $177 including tip. Unfortunately, within a week the highlights were brassy again. I reached out on December 30th to let her know. She suggested it could be due to hard water, but I do not have hard water, and the brassiness started appearing before I ever washed my hair. After doing some research, I learned that if highlights are not lifted enough, brassy tones can return very quickly. I asked if some of the highlights could be corrected, as this was a big financial investment and I was very unhappy with the result. After that, she completely stopped responding to my emails. Based on my aggressive hair request, we set an in salon consultation to confirm expectations on both sides were aligned. Consultation took a few minutes and after snipping a small full length piece of hair she would test the exact process she would be applying to my whole head and would receive her final judgement of what she could do healthily via email later that day. I agreed to her proposal later that evening and we quickly set an appt. for the next day! The salon itself is clean, beautiful and incredibly welcoming. This review is for Mola. I have been going to her for more than 10 years! This says a lot because I have never stayed with the same stylist for more than 2 years. Mola is super passionate about her craft and she's damn good at it! She is meticulous, detailed orientated, and ensures you do not leave until your hair looks perfect. If you somehow don't like something (you won't have many of those times trust me) she will be more than happy to fix the issue. Yes, there is a premium you'd have to pay, but do not be turned off by the pricing. There is a reason why stylists price things the way they do. Think about all the hours they are on their feet to do our hair, all the continuing education so they can provide you the best hair care, and all the other backend stuff we don't see. And as cliche as it sounds, you pay for what you get. Mola is worth every penny. She has done magic on my hair. From being dark to blonde, to dusty lavender, to blonde again. You know you found a keeper when people not only ask you who did your hair when you first get it done, but asks what color I dyed my hair--AFTER a whole year has gone by. 6 months later...I finally came back to get my hair done again! It was a good thing I was able to squeeze in an appointment before the holidays because she mentioned that she was pretty booked up next month. I'm torn to rate her 2 stars based on her customer service, transparency and communication. Customer service: I've gone to Mola a total of three times and each time I'd have to wait at least 25-30 minutes until she gets started with me. IMO, that is not professional and very insensitive to her client's precious time. I understand that some appointments do tend to run over but not by a whole half an hour. Even though she knew I was sitting there waiting, she kept chatting it up with her client with no ETA update. I've had two friends who've gone to her as well and she totally ghosted on one of them when she needed a hair touch up. My friend emailed Mola a few times to check in and she didn't bother to respond. That is just bad business practice. Transparency: I've gotten hair extensions with her and she wouldn't tell me where she ordered the hair extensions from. During the day of our appointment, I finally asked her but she didn't answer my question directly. All she said was "it's remy hair". Okay.... where was the distributor from? Bombay hair? Hair dreams? Sally's? Amazon? eBay? I don't understand why she was so hush-hush about where she ordered them from. Communication: During the hair extensions appointment, I specifically asked her for tips/ tricks on how to maximize the life span for the extensions because they were super expensive ($600+). All she said was "use your best judgment. obviously, this is not real hair so make sure you don't tug on it." Very vague. Then I asked her if there were any special shampoo/ conditioner that I needed to use. Again, another vague response- "these are good quality hair extensions, you don't need to go out to buy a new shampoo just for it." Fast forward a month later, 15 strands of my extensions have fallen out. I went to another stylist and she informed me that the extensions Mola got were bad materials. Maybe that was the reason why she was so reluctant to tell me where the extensions were from? I'm at a disbelief because I dropped almost $700 (with tips) to get it done by her. They should last at least three months with minimal fall out. I am not your typical girlie girl that knows a lot about hair and makeup, I am so clueless when it comes to beauty. Sure, I put on some liner and eye shadow when I go out, but the level of expertise I was looking for was someone who is knowledgeable in working with Asian features and that can make me feel beautiful and natural, without feeling like I have layers and layers of makeup on. On top of that, I have never put on fake lashes before so I was very nervous in doing so. Mola was a total sweetheart from the very start; she totally understood where I was coming from and made me feel comfortable through the whole trial. She was very patient with me as I was asking her all sorts of random questions; it was as if we had known each other for a long time! Some more details for those who ask: Mola amazing for bayalage and ombré especially for Asian hair! My touch-ups are about $135 (+$45 for cut) and takes up to 3 hours. She charges per "application" and for mine it's like 3 different things, so it's ends up being $135ish. Yours can be cheaper or more depending on the results you want. She's definitely worth it, considering the low maintenance of bayalage -- I only do a touch up every 6 months or so. read more

I've done two sessions with Mola in hopes to achieve a silver/gray Balayage. The result of each session seem to surprise me because my hair always turns out better than I would imagine it to be. Although we haven't fully achieved the silver color, it's understandable that such light color will have to undergo several sessions of highlighting and coloring. So, in my opinion, she has a pretty good sense of how much your hair can take when it comes to bleaching. One thing I would suggest is to ask for Olaplex (to reduce hair breakage) if you're going to lighten your hair. Mola will recommend it if you have already damaged hair. Although it costs extra, I highly recommend it because it'll keep you hair from having that "fried" texture after the process. My hair is not very easy to work with-- it seems to have a lot of red in it, so whenever I undergo a bleaching/ lightening process, it always looks coppery and yellowish. But Mola seems to know wassup, and for both sessions, she was able to make my hair look ash blonde by toning it to a perfect ashy color. What I also love about Mola is that she's upfront. She'll break down the process, tell you exactly how she's going to do it, and tell you how long and how much it's going to cost. Mola is awesome. Holidays were really busy so I was very patient and waited for the next appt that she had available in January and it was well worth it. Words do no justice, look at my pictures. Came back to Mola from my last visit bc I wanted a different look. From my first visit with her, I went from being blonde to being a red head and now I am ash blonde!!! She called me crazy for going back and forth but I guess blondes just have more fun! We emailed back and forth about a month ago and luckily she was able to take me in Christmas Eve! My hair was quite a mess...I originally wanted to be a red head bc I thought being blonde was too much of a hassle to tone but boy was I wrong about the red!! It was such a beautiful color but the color bleeds in the shower and fades to this auburn light brown. Although that doesn't sound that bad, my roots were grown out a lot and then came an inch of red and the rest was brown. Mola is really helpful when giving advice on what looks good and what she thinks is best for your hair. She warned me that it may take a few sessions in order to protect the integrity of my hair which is understandable. I knew for sure not to expect too much bc my hair has been through a lot. The whole appointment took about 4 hours and it turned out better than I expected!!! I have been following Mola for 8 years until she landed herself at Salon Stilo which she worked so hard to call her own and she absolutely deserved. She is such a hard worker, beyond talented and always wants to please. I walk into the salon, have her work her magic and walk out feeling like a new woman. I cannot stress enough what an amazing colorist and hairstylist she is, she stays up-to-date with what's in and the appointments fly by because she's so easy to talk to and the salon always plays my favorites jams. Mola and her staff have taken covid very seriously. The appropriate modifications in the salon have been made and they follow protocol before their clients enter the salon including filling out a questionnaire. I feel 100% safe getting my hair done. Mola did a GREAT job on my hair. It was the first time I've ever colored my hair and I absolutely love it. She also cut my hair to a great length! There were some points where my head was hurting from a bit of tugging but it happened at every salon I go to so I didn't mind that much. She also doesn't let you see your hair transformation until she's finished. But I got a glimpse of it by accident and omg. I was so scared that it was gonna end up all awkwardly blonde. But I forgot she hadn't done my roots yet lol. All was okay though because I was trusting Mola with my hair. After about 3 hours, my hair was done. She turned the chair around and I was so stunned by how great my hair looked. If I ever want to change my hair color, I'm definitely going back to her. read more

I went to her because of the reviews about how phenomenal she was. Unfortunately my experience was the opposite hence the reason for the low rate. This is an overdue review considering I went to her almost a year ago. I did a pretty deep amount of research on who could give me a nice deep purple color. I wanted a dark dark purple with a hint of plum. Instead I got a bright witch looking purple. Literally looked like I was wearing a wig! I couldn't see the color until the next day because it was already dark out... so the next day I got a pretty big surprise when people were telling me how bad my hair looked. Also, I was never given a price estimate or a consultation. Therefore I was in shock when she told me my total was about $280 or something. You can't just spring a price like that on someone who tells you that they have never gotten color on their hair. About two days later, I called and asked if there was anything she could do to fix it. She sounded irritated but willing to help. I went in the next morning and not only was she completely rude to me but she was also very aggressive with the way she was adding the dye to my hair, I felt her nails fiercely striking my scalp. I even lost an earring in the process ... she was just super rude about me going in again to get it fixed. But I mean if I'm paying like $280 for my hair I think I have the right to at least be satisfied with it. The stars are because she was nice and talkative when I met her, she willing to fix my hair the next day and the after turned out really nice. Just wish that had been the finished product ... I would really recommend a consultation, making sure you both have the right color in mind, and not giving your customers attitude when they come back to get something fixed. They are paying you a good amount of money so they should be beyond satisfied. read more

This review is like 2 months overdue but if you're thinking about getting your hair colored in any way, Mola is your girl! I've been wanting to color my hair for months! I've never colored it before and I was just sooooo skeptical because I wanted to go to someone who knows what they're doing. After weeks of research I came across her yelp page and looked thru her portfolio and I was immediately blown away. Book an appointment with her by emailing her! It is the best way and she emails you back really fast!!! Emailed her, got an appt, and she totally worked my virgin hair and i am absolutely in love. I came in for a balayage and showed her pics and it turned out so beautiful! It isn't cheap, but hey, you get what you pay for and that is quality. I was scared of coloring my hair because I thought it would get damaged but my hair has never felt lighter and healthier and I am just in love!!! read more

Mola was great with my hair! It was my first time coloring my hair and I was scared of how damaged it would be because I wanted an ombre hairstyle. She took very good care of my hair and gave it a nice cut. I love my hair! I've been to many hair salons with bad experiences of how they cut and style my hair for events but Mola knows what looks good! She was so awesome that I recommended to my mother and she loves her too! We will be going back to Mola for future hair coloring and haircuts. read more

Mola is literally some type of hair goddess. During my appointment, she explained the whole process thoroughly, gave me tips on how to make my color job last, worked with me to achieve a different result than I initially was aiming for (because its pretty much impossible to go from black to platinum hair in one sitting !) but it still came out BEAUTIFULLY. She's very nice and she made me feel very comfortable. I'd highly recommend her to anyone looking for a colorist and have already recommended her to a couple of people who have complimented my hair today.
