    Receipt from today's pickup

I'm so so happy to have ordered again from here after a false news notice some years ago that it was closing. I'd ordered sooner, but only finally got my act together and did it today and boy am I going to be happy for DAYS. I ordered the #1 "Mamaliga Trapeza / House Special With Pork Stew" which is polenta (a Romanian corn meal) with feta, pork stew chunks seasoned thoroughly, sour cream, a fried egg with a just soft middle, copious generous baked beef chunks, and special seasoning atop it all. It's truly delicious. There as no pork stew or pork for that matter, but no matter, it was awesome. I also ordered a 2nd order of the same, but with more mamaliga (should've chosen something else for diversity, my fault), a side of coffee (I've not had coffee out for years and so just wanted it; it was so emotionally relieving), and taranesc (tomatoes, cucumbers, raw onions, red sweet bell peppers, cut romaine lettuce, feta cheese, olive oil dressing). Everything was again delicious with superbly fresh quality of ingredients which is hard now-a-days with less turnover and more economic pressures. Loved it all! I also ordered a side of sarmale, a Romanian dish of ground pork, sauerkraut, tomatoes, and dill in a cabbage wrap with delicious seasoning and steamed just right. It was a full, beyond full, meal even at just 6 pieces since each piece is sssooo so so generous, just like the aforementioned beef baked chunks. I can't wait for tomorrow with these leftovers than a re-order sooner than the time since the last. Salud to all who've supported Moldova Restaurant and if not you then make it so.

$65 per person. The food was pretty good, but not worth the price. Remember to take digestive before going here. The service was Ok. But the interior is crammed.

We started with an order of taranesc, then moved on to two orders of Mămăligă Trapeza, then two orders of sarmale. We ended up in Sour Cherry Dumpling Land for dessert. Now I want to go live in Sour Cherry Dumpling Land.

will never be disappointed in this place. it's like coming home to your kitchen. they always make you feel welcome like a part of the family. and the food is great, so is the service.

    everything was delicious !

This place is pretty awesome, a nice new find, but it's been around for a while now. I'm here the second time and experiences still just as amazing as the first! Service is a little bit slow but friendly.

    Ciorba de vita cu fasole

Ordered the lunch special with 30 min to spare, allowing for a soup/salad and an entree. The veal soup, ciorba de vita cu fasole, was decent in taste, though the cubes of meat were slightly too dry for me. There were also a plethora of kidney beans and a few pieces of well cooked potatoes. There was a faint spiciness with reasonable saltiness. I also ordered a hot appetizer, which was served prior to my entree. I the coltunasi fat frumos, which were served in a pot with an assortment of dumplings filled with either cheese, potatoes, or pork. Interestingly, they came in varying shapes and sizes; more circular disk-shaped dumplings contained while more crescent shaped ones had the other two fillings. The pork dumplings tasted best, but overall they were great, whetting my appetite. Sour cream on the side complemented them fairly. My entree was the mămăligă house special. It was a medley of items. Firstly, there were three spheres of mămăligă, or a type of corn porridge. These were softer in consistency than a tamale and about as sticky as a zongzi. Though tasteless, the mămăligă balanced the saltiness of the cheese crumbles and pork. The pork was excellent and very tasty, and went well with the sour cream. The scrambled eggs were unassuming, but seemed to work well in conjunction with everything else. Decor had a classy feel with the appearance of the tables and utensils. There were various tapestries adorning the wall and a clock with the Moldovan flag in the background. Service was friendly, with helpful staff when I asked help for dish recommendations. In retrospect, I would've been well fed only with the entree, but I wanted to try an appetizer as well. Great food; would go back to try more.

traditional dumplings, Salad, Mamaliga Trapeza and pork stew, Stuffed chicken breast, Placinte pastry, Sarmale Stuffed grape rolls

What an experience. We tried Moldovan food for the first time and we got quite the spread. Very fun experience and the portions were HUGE. The salad was basic but refreshing, the dumplings were also a bit bland. The placinte with potato was good. It could be better with maybe accompanied by a side sauce. The stuffed grape leaves w meat filling was a lovely surprise. They are LARGE and full of flavor. The best part for sure were the main courses. Loved the stuffed breaded chicken w/ the creamy dilly filling. Also loved the pork stew with the mamaliga together it just so hardy and can understand why it's so comforting now. Thanks for the speedy delivery and the fun palette experience. Would eat Moldovan cuisine for sure more often.

    Pirjoale ca la Tiraspol: A+
    Peter S.

Very elegant restaurant; intriguing menu, great culinary execution. Exotic in the sense that few New Yorkers would probably be able to point to Moldova on a map. It would be a good "date place" were it not for the fact that the restaurant has been criminally empty the three times I've been there. On one hand, it's in a bad location -- there's not much foot traffic here, but on the other hand, there's quite a few similar (elegant; somewhat exotic, great food) places nearby... maybe that's problem. I hope not, because I'd like to see this place thrive. Loved the waitress. The owner was super friendly (although I could do without the "Democrats suck" verbiage). There's really nothing not to love about this restaurant. Coltunasi Făt-Frumos: B+ Coltunasi are dumplings; Moldovan pierogi. Făt-Frumos is a knight-hero in Romanian folklore; something like a Romanian Prince Charming (Romania is next door to Moldova). The dumplings come in an earthen ceramic pot with sour cream on the side. Somewhat bland; I would've liked the meat filling to stand out more, and I'm not sure being lumped in a bowl is the best presentation for the dish, but who doesn't love dumplings of any sort? Costita: A- A nicely grilled pork chop. Excellent flavorings, and obviously grilled. My kids absolutely loved it. The only small criticism is that it was slightly overdone in places. A more juicy, more fatty cut of meat would've been better. Even so, this is a solid offering. Pirjoale ca la Tiraspol: A+ My favorite dish here. I'm not a fan of chicken breast; it's usually far too dry for me, and further more, I'm not a huge fan of gerkin pickles. However, this was heavenly. Superb. The meat was juicy and soft. The stuffed cheese / pickle was just ... phenomenal. For me, this is the best dish on the menu. Skirt Steak Salad: A Heavenly salad. The steak itself was clearly an A+: grilled and tasty (it was either skirt or hangar steak, both of which are very tasty cuts). The salad was terrific. Sarmale ca la Mama: A Essentially "finger sized" stuffed cabbage. Or maybe they can be described as dumplings with cabbage instead of dough. In a word, scrumptious. The cabbage and meat were soft enough to be cuttable with just a fork. Juicy, tender, nicely seasoned. Definitely an "A" dish. Jumari (fried pork belly): C- Tasteless with bad texture. I've never had flavorless pork belly... it's basically bacon meat, right? How in the WORLD can it be flavorless? But moreover, it's obviously fried but dry and rubbery which tells me that it was fried previously but warmed (over warmed) in a microwave oven. I found it to be inedible. When we got back from the restaurant I literally threw this away. I'm even wondering if it were pork belly to begin with. Ursuleti: Ordered by our group but I didn't eat it. I'll have to try it next time. Compot de Casa: A Delicious handmade fruit punch.

The best item in the entire order was the Mushroom Gratin (what many Eastern Europeans would simply call mushroom julienne- Mix of mushrooms in a heavy cream sauce and topped with melted cheese). It was cheesy, properly cooked, flavorful, and actually very good. That said, the price increase is absurd. This dish used to cost $15 and now costs $26, which is a 73% jump, while the portion is still only moderate. Good? Yes. Worth $26? That is another question. The Chicken Stroganoff, however, was a complete failure. It looks like the kitchen was trying to put its own "innovative" spin on a classic dish by serving Chicken Stroganoff over a latke -- basically a large potato pancake/hash brown -- and by adding pickles directly into the dish. In theory, that could have been interesting. In reality, it did not work at all. A proper Stroganoff is usually served with mashed potatoes or buckwheat, and pickles, if used at all, should complement the dish, not drag it down. Here, the pickles added nothing because they were the same poor-quality pickles this restaurant sells separately for extra money: thick, tough, bland, and lacking the garlicky, flavorful bite that good Eastern European pickles are supposed to have. The latke itself was also a miss. Instead of being thin, crisp, and well-seasoned like a proper Eastern European potato pancake, it was thick, heavy, and almost completely flavorless. No character, no seasoning, no real potato crispness -- just a large bland base taking up space on the plate. And that is exactly the problem with this dish overall: far too much latke, very little actual Stroganoff. The chicken portion was minimal, the mushrooms in the Stroganoff were bland and underseasoned, and the chicken pieces themselves were chewy, tough, and unpleasant to eat. The sauce was also weak and unmemorable. So what we really received was an oversized, mediocre potato pancake with a very small amount of badly executed Chicken Stroganoff spread over it to make the portion look more substantial than it actually was. I also paid extra $2 for extra pickles, and that was not worth it either. The portion was tiny-1 fat pickle, quality was poor -- thick, tough, and zero flavor. I asked for extra black bread, and "extra" apparently meant 4 pieces. Better than nothing, but hardly generous considering the prices this place now charges. So overall: extremely fast delivery, 1 very good mushroom appetizer, and 1 overpriced main dish that completely failed despite trying to sound creative on paper. At these prices, "innovative" is not enough. The food actually has to taste good. Here, only 1 dish did.

Two of us ordered the papparadelle al Limone and we added Burrata to it. The pasta was made in house and was made well, but the Burrata on top was so cooked that it was like rubber and the pasta was in a watery butter sauce that had zero flavor. It was my favorite part of the meal and that dish was absolutely cleared. The sauce reminded me of butter chicken and the lemon was so juicy, the perfect splash of acidity to the prawn. Hamachi crudo was unique tasting with the green mango, tamarind, and curry oil. The peri peri chicken was very moist, most of the flavor is coming from the buttermilk ranch and peri peri sauce though, so I like that they included sauce on the side! I also loved the chicken nugget that came with the dish more than peri peri chicken itself. Hope they do chicken nuggets with their ranch and peri peri sauce as an appetizer some day. Braised oxtail gratin was a wee bit spicy and tingly, but well seasoned. The crispy cheddar polenta and onions were my favorite part of that dish. Blood orange cheesecake was good as well, just a wee bit pricey based on the size of the slice. Took the opportunity to try some of their old classics I haven't had before, like the candied grapefruit, tuna melt, and cheesecake. The candied grapefruit was really unique; quite messy to eat as the grapefruit was really juicy (tbf I was probably not eating it the right way either). Never ordered the tuna melt before as I'm generally not a fan of tuna melts, but now I'm wondering if it's just because I haven't had a good one before. It was so herby, the bread was perfectly toasted, and the mustard cut through the heaviness perfectly. I was getting really full at this point but I had to try the cheesecake, which was absolutely exquisite-- just so decadent and smooth and creamy with the perfect buttery crust. It's exactly how I imagine the cheesecake in Friends would've tasted like (with added blueberries on top) and I'm kicking myself for not having tried it sooner. They have very limited quantity of the cheesecake every day so I do recommend ordering it up front (unfortunately this also means they don't allow you to order it to go). Absolutely worth coming here for a visit before they close 7/5! Recommend getting here a few min before opening to make sure you get a seat.

The refrigerators are too small. There are fewer than 30 seats. Every year we've asked a little more of this tiny restaurant than it was built to give. We kept making it work because that's what restaurants do. You patch things. You mop. You move the boxes. You come in early. You leave late. You convince yourself one more busy weekend might solve a problem that isn't really solvable. Last fall, when we needed help, you gave it. In a big way. The support from this community carried us further than I thought possible. It gave us the chance to make changes, find our footing, and imagine a future here. But eventually the room tells you when it's time. And this one has given us everything it could. So before circumstances made the decision for me, I decided to make it myself. Our last dinner service will be June 14. Our last lunch service will be July 5. Between now and then, we'll cook some old tavorites. The tuna melts, the cheesecake, the deviled eggs, the borscht. All the things that somehow became bigger than the little room they came from. Mostly, I just want to say thank you. For every seat filled. Every celebration. Every regular who became a friend. Every person who took a chance on an Eastern European inspired restaurant with a crooked basement and ambitious ideas. I don't know exactly what Agi's looks like next. I only know that restaurants are never really the space they're in. They're the people who remember them long after the chairs are stacked and the lights go out." It was Sat but the music would start much later so there was no noise and we could talk. Almost all food we ordered was exceptionally delicious, from appetizers to desserts. The service was very attentive and we also got good suggestions helping to avoid ordering too much :) We highly recommend Chateau de Capitane for excellent delicious food and we'll certainly be back! Appetizers Trio Tartare - awesome! It had tuna, salmon, and yellowtail tartare and each had its own distinct taste. Can't really say which one was better as they were all good but different. Sesame Tuna - perfect! Tuna was tender and flavorful, melting in the mouth. Duck Salad - this one could be better as the duck was dry and scarce. Arugula Goat Cheese Salad - delicious! We were debating whether to order this salad as we make it at home, but we didn't regret. It had a perfect combo of ingredients + some sauce or smth making it a harmony. Kutaby with Herbs - fresh, warm, flavorful. Belyash with Meat - this eastern russia deep fried meat patty was about 1.5x of the standard size. It had perfectly fried dough (not burned) and plenty of juicy medium cooked meat inside. I tired belyashi in restaurants in russia and made at home, but this one surpassed them all. Just this single belyash already makes it worth coming back to Chateau de Capitane :) Soups Uha with Salmon - it was good, fresh, and clear. Plenty of salmon. It was tasty but somewhat standard. The taste could be made more colorful with some extra spices and maybe lemon. Dushpora - fresh and tasty, with cute mini-dumplings. We all tried and liked it. Solaynka - this one was unfortunately a miss. Tasteless and over salted. Mains Duck with Dried Fruits - simply amazing! If you like duck - this a must have! The portion was very generous and had la parts of duck - legs, wings, and breast. It was super juicy and tender, cooked to perfection. The dry fruits were of a good variety and matched the duck. Chilean Sea Bass with Creamy Polenta - soft, flakey, delicious! It wasn't not too fatty as a sea bass could be. Polenta was a great match as well as a mushroom sauce served on the side. Grilled Branzino - it was served nicely peeled off the bones and had great flavor and texture, yet was not "fishy". Stuffed Jumbo Shrimps - these were very good according to the people who ate them.

The cocktails are amazing and very clever, you will take alot of pictures for Instagram. The food is just above average, but you really are there for the decor and drinks! We went during Halloween 2025 and had an amazing time. Special thanks to the staff who served us at the bar while waiting for our table. Ambiance: 5/5. Although a little small, it's more cozy than crowded. There are decorations wall to wall (and ceilings) during the holidays. The bar is not really meant for kids but they will enjoy the spectacle as much as adults. Drinks: 5/5. Each drink is creative, well mixed, and STRONG. Worth the higher price tag for the artistry. Food: 4/5. Good but not amazing. Solid brunch options and portion sizes, and solid for the price. Service: 4.5/5. Attentive, polite and efficient despite the large crowds coming into this place.

I found a few other interesting dinner spots but My gal and I already had Sveta tagged, so I went with that. It was our friends first time to New York so I was trying to make it memorable. Sveta was a great call as its definity memorable. Us 2 couples walked in for our reservation and us guys felt a little funny. It was a million pink flowers everywhere. It was pretty cool, and I knew rthe girls were liking it. We took a few pics before we even had our table. Their drinks are definitely interesting, and photographic. Our friend won best drink as it was literally the magic box from the movie "Big". crazy. The dinner was very good as well, and the pics they took of us for a small charge was a nice bonus. The vibes here feel like eating at your grandmother's house in Europe! Caution that it is cash only! We came on a Monday evening, and seated immediately with no reservation. I made a reservation, and we went there for dinner. My order was: Karadjordjeva, Cevapi, Dimljena vesalica, and Rolovane suve sljive and dzigerica. All the dishes were delicious. The portions were quite large. I also ordered a glass of Yellow Muscat dessert wine on the recommendation of our waiter. It was very tasty and aromatic. The restaurant has a very cozy, homey, and welcoming atmosphere. The interior is seemingly simple, but it gives the restaurant an ethnic feel. The service was also very good. It felt like we were visiting hospitable hosts rather than going to a restaurant. I would also like to point out that the prices are very reasonable! Visit this restaurant and you won't regret it!

From the moment we stepped through the doors, it was clear that Ren is leagues above any other restaurant we've visited. Calling Ren a restaurant feels almost like an understatement; it's a culinary journey. The menu is a testament to culinary artistry - each dish, from the appetizers through to the desserts, was a masterpiece. The flavors and textures were unique and memorable, with each bite cooked to absolute perfection. The service at Ren deserves its own accolade - it's a five-star experience in its own right. The waitstaff was attentive without being intrusive, enriching our evening with detailed descriptions of each dish. They didn't just serve food; they presented a story on a plate, explaining the intricate details of the ingredients, preparation, and the symphony of flavors to expect. The ambiance of Ren added to the magic of the evening. The decor was tasteful, the furniture and seating comfortable, creating an environment that was both elegant and inviting.
