Wow...ok so the food here is pretty good. Mamaliga was on point, appetizers were yummy, entrees were good as well and even the deserts. But none of it was sooooo good that it covers some of the worst service I have ever received. Got there at 6pm on Saturday with reservations for 8 people. Only one other table which was finishing up their meal when we got there. No attention from the waiters what so ever....i felt like I had to beg for them to look at us. My mother and I asked for water like 6 or 7 times and the girl kept saying ok....but doesn't bring it, then after my mother sarcastically reminds her about water again, the girl gives a dirty look...nooooo, just get the freaking water...thats all, get the freaking water at least on the second request. I tell a male waiter when we got there that my son has nut allergies, please ask chef if the food is safe....sure he says and goes downstairs...bout 20 min later comes up and starts bringing random bags to outside delivery car. Hello, I freaking asked you to find out something so my son doesn't die...are you an idiot? So i stop him and he says oh yes everything ok, truth the little f didn't even ask! The waiters didn't even look in our direction unless I flagged them down and they tried to look away lmfao, the whole time they were hiding in basement or playing on phones in back room. I've been to Moldova once, saw the sign and decided to visit for a new experience, did not know anything about the country and the food so I thought it's an adventure that I will have to take. The decoration was very very nice, the place had this eastern feel to it, which was very nice, the staff was very friendly, the food was very very good, I learned a lot about Moldova and their food from the staff. Salad Greek was with Italian dressing so it was not a Greek salad 2nd Borsch the meat is cooked separately and cut in small pieces and it ruined the taste. 3rd Potato with mushrooms. Potato were deep friend as a french fries and white mushrooms (literally 1 spoon of them) was on the top. The one star is for the food, it was decent but not extraordinary. The customer service tho, was the worst I've seen in America. We were so excited to come here ( we are from Seattle, WA) but left so disappointed. The servers acted like we were bothering them. The kid at the bar was putting sliced bread in a basket with his bare hands while shaking two of his friends hand ( germs alert). Over all I don't recommend it to anybody! Terrible experience and I'm so disappointed of the Moldovan people who still act like ărani. Came here with a group of 7 for my Mother's birthday. We are a Romanian family and loved the Romanian home cooked quality food offered by Moldova. My mother is from Romanian and is a excellent cook herself. I have to say that this was one of the best Romanian/Moldavian restaurants we have been. Horrible service! The management has changed and the staff no longer not cares about the customers (unless you know them personally). We waited for 1.5 hours for our food, which never arrived, while we saw the very same orders being served to the people who came in after us. It's useless to complain to management as no one seems to care. We will never return to this restaurant again. read more

My wife and I went to Moldove last night for dinner. It was the first time for us but definitly not the last. My grandparents were from Roumainia and Moldovian food brings be back to food that I was brought up with. Dinner last night was great. We had cheese dumplings light and buttery, Kielbasy for appetizers. For entrees we had grilled trout and I had grilled pork chop with mamaliga which was outrageous. Mamaliga is corn meal. The only draw backto the meal was that the portions were so generous that we did not have room for dessert which looked super. We will be back soon read more

My friends decided to celebrate new years at this restaurant because 99% of people were moldovians, including myself. Worst idea ever. #1 The meal we paid was 100$ each. With 18% service charge, 105. Later on they said we must pay more service charge because those 18% were for the people who arranged the tables. Never heard of that before, but Ok in the end each person ended up paying about 120$. It does not sound THAT terrible. #2 The food is tasty, but they serve you very little. If you were enthusiastic to try the traditional food mamliga, be prepared to have a very small bite of it because they will serve you half the portion they are supposed to. (This refers to birthday parties or big eveniments). #3 For the entire table for new years for 10 people, we were served with only few salads, few pieces of fish, some sausages ( I can buy them myself at the store), another big fish in the middle of the table and with no coffee or tea ( very unusual, because I have been there before and we always had tea and coffee). Oh the the best - spoiled strawberries, dried watermelon, good pineapple. 1 PIECE OF CAKE , 2 baked apples for our table - we were again 10 PEOPLE. I asked for more cake and they brought another 1 PIECE OF CAKE . Such a joke. #4 Somebody stole my friend's phone because when we started to look for it we couldnt find it. My friend had no alcohol because he drove the guests back at home. After we moved the chairs and coats to look for the phone without luck, it appeared on the floor right where we were looking. I found it extremely strange. The same night another phone was missing from our next table, as well our friends. It could have been some of our friends, it could have been the waiters -Mystery unsolved. I am not blaming,but if you go watch for your stuff. I would not advise to make big celebrations there because the service is spoiled. A lunch or a small dinner where you know exactly what you order and how much you are supposed to get without being cheated on with money - it is a far better experience. The salads are good, the mamliga is good and placinte, mici, potatoes with mushrooms, Do not go there for parties because they will charge money and have poor meals for the table. My Mom being originally from Moldova decided to order authentic Moldavian food for her 50th birthday celebration. She ordered the Grilled chicken served with homemade pasta and Home fried potatoes with mushrooms and onions. We couldn't believe what they have served to us when we opened the takeaway containers. Chicken and potatoes were completely burnt! Food that they have served us was inedible... Homemade pasta wasn't homemade. They just boiled some spaghetti from supermarket. My Mom's 50's Birthday was ruined. Next day she called up the restaurant to give them an honest feedback and wanted to speak to the manager. They refused to pass the phone to the manager. I went to this restaurant this evening with my fiancé, his parents and my parents. The seats are covered in white cloth, I had some lipstick or jam smeared on the back of my seat, not a smile from any of the waiters. We got to try many different appetizers and entrees as there was 6 of us. We all agreed that everything was under seasoned. Some dishes were better than others but for the most part expect a lot of butter and fat. Not big on flavor. Very one note. But ofcourse my main disappointment was the service. Cherry on top was when I kindly asked the waiter to take a picture of the family together. He said in a minute. A minute passed, 2, 3,...5. He's by the register chatting with another waiter. The homemade fruit punch was delightfully anti-Hi-C, the salata taranesc so simple yet so fresh and really well made; the carnaciori (kielbasa) perfectly seasoned and juicy; the snitzel, triumphant. It feels a bit strange to give it five stars; it's not like it's Daniel or something. But as far as a takeout experience goes, this was the absolute best we've had in a long, long time. Were looking for lunch option on rainy recent Saturday afternoon. So I pulled this place up on Yelp and decided to give it a try since we were in the area. The decor is nice and the staff was ok too, non of them went out of their way. Now on to the food, we have ordered tongue, fresh salad with cheese, eggplant spread, fish soup and chicken soup. Most of these items tasted fine, the soups felt like they have the same base which was strange but my son seemed to enjoy chicken one and that was good enough for me. Now for main dish we ordered some beef dish with side of rice and waitress said that one of order of chicken kebab would be enough for kids to share. Well, the chicken kebab was one skewer of chicken that was so dry that I had to scrape off and it barely enough to share for two little kids, good thing I ordered side of mash for them. Our beef dish resembled something that is rather made out of rubber, and the rice was just sweet as if they dropped sugar. I am not familiar with Moldavian cooking but it seemed off way off. I was not impressed and it was already mentioned in prior review they take 10% service charge and then want another 10% in tip, that just wrong. We were 2 adults and 2 kids, and the waitress was not all that outgoing nor did she come to check on us, she was busy flirting with some Moldovan guys that were having round of Vodkas at 2pm on Saturday. I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend after reading the positive reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately we did not have such a pleasant experience as the other reviewers. We went on Monday at noon, but they did not offer a lunch menu, which wasn't a big deal since we were eager to try different dishes. We ordered the ursuleti (mamaliga balls), the placinte (pastries), and the carnaciori (kielbasa) for appetizers. The pastries were soggy and rubbery. They were clearly microwaved. The mamaliga balls came with bacon, which were thick, hard, and old chunks of bacon that were unpleasant to chew and not very flavorful. The kielbasa we were given also looked microwaved and tasted generally unappetizing. For our entree we wanted to order the lamb, but was told that it was not ready. So we ordered the mamaliga trapeza, which unlike the picture on the website came with three giant piles of polenta, less than one eggs worth of scrambled egg, and definitely microwaved meat. It wasn't just microwaved from the night before, the meat looked like it was cooked a few days ago. The scrambled egg tasted old and looked like the kitchen put whatever scrambled egg was left over from the night before on the plate. They gave us old scrambled egg. The kitchen didn't even bother making some new scrambled eggs. Almost every dish we received tasted old and was microwaved. The entire meal was extremely difficult to eat. After serving us such a terrible meal, they took the liberty of charging us a 10% service charge. Very disappointed. read more

This place is absolutely worth visiting! I come to NY once a month from DC, and I never miss a chance to visit this place. The food is excellent, everything is so fresh and tastes as if your grandma just cooked this for you. My personal favorites are mititei and tongue salad. Came here for a birthday and was very disappointed. I have never seen worse service as I have in this place. We were a party of 18 and selected the bonquet option. The first 2 hours we hardly got served, when we finally got some appetizers they neglected to provide any serving utensils. They even brought out potatoes without serving utensils. Our party had to repeatedly ask for water, napkins and what have you. The staff was inexperienced and felt like it was everyone's first day on the job. No one checked in on us and we constantly had to get up to beg for attention. The wait staff was clueless and lost. The portions were tiny and hardly fed anyone.
