My family has been frequenting this establishment for years, and unfortunately, our most recent experiences have left us disappointed and determined to stop supporting this business. The restaurant space is tiny--so during weekends and Fridays, you will not get a table without reservation. Menu prices have compounded over the past months. Inflation--understandable. However, the portion size and quality of food has needlessly suffered. As if the owners stopped paying cooks or told them to cut expenses on absolutely everything, including food. Used to really like eating here, but the past four times we visited, our meals were very scant and overpriced. Banquets are a whole different story--a complete rip off. The larger the group, the worse the rip off. We were celebrating a birthday (30 people) and half the guests were left hungry, because the food has been cut so drastically, that for insane prices of $150 per person, people could not even get one serving of each dish. Banquets are a major rip off at every Russian speaking restaurant, so there is no surprise there. However, Rondel has set a new record for poor customer treatment. To add insult to injury, the staff stole our leftover custom-made cake, which we purchased for the occasion. Only one tier of a huge, multiple layer cake was consumed by guests, so we were expecting to take the remaining cake home. Imagine our shock when we were told that there was no more cake left! We were not drunk, to not notice how much cake was consumed! Extremely rude and unprofessional. Our guests already left the table half hungry, because the restaurant decided to save on food and still charge astronomical banquet prices, AND the cake that we brought in was also taken! Unacceptable. Another great example: our party of 8 came for dinner on Saturday night, for a 6pm reservation. At 8pm, we were told that the cooks have left the kitchen and there is no more food! We were celebrating a birthday, so imagine how great that went! Only had the time to order and eat appetizers, and had to go home and cook a birthday meal there. What a shame! What kind of kitchen lets their cooks just up and leave on a busy Saturday night, at 8pm? The funny part: I saw two elderly Russian women in dirty kitchen clothes rush out of the restaurant with their bags a few minutes before we were told that the kitchen was closed for the night. Guess I saw the two cooks responsible for Rondel's kitchen abandon ship in the middle of the busiest business night of the week. Unacceptable. Take your business else where. There are plenty of worthwhile Eastern European restaurants deserving of your money. read more

Love this restaurant with my whole heart! It became the place where we are celebrating our occasion, starting from christening and to every birthday in our family! The staff is very professional and caring, Peter is always there to make your experience better. Food is delicious! And don't believe reviews telling you that portions is small. Because they aren't! They are actually huge, and there will be enough for everyone! Every our celebration is 30+ guests and over 15 children. At the end of June, I visited this restaurant and was horrified!!!! HORRIBLE !!!We were celebrating a birthday, and my children wanted to recite poems to their dad, but I was categorically denied!!!!!!!!!!!!!!with rudeness in this restaurant... Although I would say it's a CAFE... in this restaurant, you can only do it in Ukrainian LANGUAGE!!! I'm sorry, but for me, it's not understandable when they dictate how to speak with my own money... The food was ordinary... but I also got food poisoning... The music consisted of only 10 songs, and only a couple were in English... I don't understand why they dictate to me, and I don't understand why this place is still operating... I have already reported it to all the higher authorities... Wow what can I say this was the first time I was here and it was absolutely amazing ! Let's start off with the restaurant with in its self ! I walk in to a beautiful setting! The restaurant was very clean and everyone always smiling ! As soon as I sat down I had waiters always making sure I did not need anything! From always giving me clean plates and silver ware and also making sure the water was always filled ! The food was extremely delish and fresh! They also had a great band playing great songs! Great Ukrainian place in Midwood! My bf and I came here with his family to celebrate and it was a delicious experience. As usual, for my main course, I got the chicken kebabs, which I think at this point, I've tasted at every Eastern European place we've eaten. The food is prepared to order and it takes a bit of time to come out but if you're with family, you really don't notice that much because of all the good gossip. We had a great meal with family and friends. We walked down this beautiful hall with exquisite decor and a lovely aroma. Everything was shining , you could see it was all very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the food was outstanding. The band that played music was outstanding - they sounded very professional. What we had for dessert was apple pie served with ice cream. There is so much more on this menu including breakfast and brunch. We recently needed a large space to accommodate a party of 18 to celebrate the life of my beloved's grandmother who passed away. At Rondel we were able to have that many and more if needed. Surprisingly, on the other side of the room, there was room for another party of roughly the same size. And closer to the door still remained another few tables to seat another 12-16 guests. In true Ukrainian fashion, there was no shortage of food. From appetizers to sides, to mains, no one would go home hungry. We had several plates of pickled foods and potato dishes followed by chicken and lamb. All was prepared and replaced by a very attentive and eager staff. All one would have to do is ask and more of whatever dish that had disappeared would be replenished. Each of the staff members came and removed plates and glasses and asked if we needed anything further. The service during this solemn day was excellent. A bit noisy from all of the toasts being offered on both sides of the room, there was still plenty of space and hearing left to hear the music that was playing. On quite a different set of circumstances, I'm sure we would have loved it even more. Thanks to them for helping us in our grief and tending to the needs of a family in mourning. read more

Could you please not gaslight me into me being too sensitive and there was no way I couldn't leave hungry? I don't know any person who gets full off a small portion of soup. I tried like hundreds of borshts from different restaurants because I am Russian, I literally grew up eating it and it's my favorite dish. I could definitely tell if sugar was added to it or not. And yes I am all for healthy lifestyle but unfortunately a lot of sugar and other unnecessary chemicals is added to American food which makes it very hard for me to eat out. Honestly American restaurants have a lot of issues, I lived in Russia and Europe, so I know what I am talking about. There are people out there with GERD, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity etc who have to keep a strict diet and it's hard fir them to eat out as well?! I wish American restaurants were more into healthy dining. About the pierogi: maybe I wasn't lucky and MY portion was too salty. And could we please stop using the pandemic as an excuse? Gaslighting me and playing the victim is just not ok. Be happy you have the means to open a business because other people are not as lucky as you are and have to make 11 dollars and hour. read more

We came here yesterday for my dad's birthday. The food was great, I especially liked the big potato pancake. I had tiger shrimp in garlic sauce for main course and it was delicious as well, my husband had the duck legs which he enjoyed, and others at the table had schnitzels, hot pans, beef stew, etc. Also, their solyanka soup is INCREDIBLE. The salads that were ordered for the table (fresh salad, arugula salad, avocado salad) were very fresh and delicious as well. So why 3 stars you ask? The service! Holy hell are they slow here. We waited probably over an hour for our entrees. We didn't even order dessert because we were tired of sitting there and were afraid to see how long that would take after sitting for 3+ hours as it was. This place has a lot of potential but they have really got to work on their service and speed, and this has nothing to do with the one waiter that was working there, he was fine (it was a Wednesday and there were only 2 tables). I am so glad that I choose restaurant Rondel to celebrate my husband 50 birthday. Everything was excellent. Amazing food, service, music and atmosphere.
