There is something undefinable about Molly's. If you drove up and had second thoughts, nobody would blame you. It's nestled amongst the auto-body repair shops of Provo, Utah - and not far from the DI, a large local thrift shop. There's nothing unappealing about the exterior, but it's location isn't anything to be impressed by. But then you step inside and the smells that were wafting through the parking lot hit you full force and give you pause. Molly's is very clean (but not sterile) and warm, and the food is full-on American comfort cuisine of the finest caliber. There is nothing I've tried that isn't next-level good. I highly recommend the Dutch oven potatoes and the brisket. Or if you like chicken, try the French chicken with it's amazing white sauce. The rolls are hot and sweet, and smell of yeasty goodness. It has an unpretentious cafeteria vibe, but much warmer and kinder. It's always packed, the proprietors are clearly making money hand over fist. But they deserve every penny - the food is that good. Overall the food was good. It felt like I was sitting in a cultural hall with the relief society serving lunch. The mashed potatoes were good. Definite homestyle gravy with carrot/stew after taste that was actually pretty good. They gave me a huge serving of pulled pork and it was good. And I absolutely LOVED the cheese biscuit rolls. My husband liked the briscut and baked beans but neither blew him away. If you're looking for good bbq meat I'd pay 5 dollars more and go to 5 star bbq and get twice as much food and better meat. The atmosphere was really loud and felt like a cafeteria (probably starting because that's how the food is served). And my husband felt uncomfortable and like we needed to hurry and give up our table. Overall we liked it but probably won't go back. Although I would pick up up to go to take it to a neighbor if asked to provide a meal for someone. read more

This is one of my favorite lunch spots. It's quick, clean, has courteous staff but best of all it's delicious! It's cafeteria style service with somewhat limited seating and is VERY popular so get there early. I've had the pulled pork, French chicken, French pot roast & smoked turkey. I normally have a go-to item I settle on and always order at a restaurant. Not here! Everything is so yummy that I debate what I'll order right up to the last second. The sides are great as well. I've had the mashed potatoes, au gratin potatoes, buttered corn, Dutch oven potatoes, a couple of different soups & salads. All are goooood! You choose a bread at the end of the line, either a roll or a cheddar biscuit. Both are great! This place is so yummy. Why has it taken me so long to try it? I went during the lunch hour and it was busy. The food is served cafeteria style. I had the roasted pork with carrots, delicious. I had a tossed salad for my side with the house tomato ranch dressing. The salad dressing was so flavorful, I ended up dipping my pork in it. Molly's is lunch on a Sunday afternoon at grandmas house. I can't sum it up any better or make it any more delightful. Wife got the pulled chicken and I got the chicken pot pie. You can feel the love that goes into every ingredient all homemade and not processed. I quote my wife in saying every part of our meal was delicious. Catering/cafeteria food taken to a near-gourmet level. The brisket and pulled pork is seriously good. The carrot cake is so decadent it may be declared a public enemy by Nanny State food cops. As an out-of-towner, I would make this a must-stop when you're in the Provo area. This place is like Sunday dinner comfort food every day of the week. I love going on Tuesdays for the meatloaf..amazing. The pot roast is so tender and flavorful. All their meats are fantastic, although sometimes the chicken can be dry. The potatoes, cheddar biscuits, good selection of veggies and salads...can't say enough, it all tastes amazing, can't go wrong with any menu item. The tomato basil pie blew me away. The service is always excellent. It does feel a bit like a ward party in there, but the food is worth it. Only wish they were open more hours. read more

Went to Molly's last night. We got a wide variety of items and let our kids run wild around the restaurant. Not really (the part about the kids). We had the pork, the brisket, tomato basil pie, and chicken. We loved the brisket and tomato basil pie. The pork was good. Chicken was a little dry. For dessert we had the raspberry bread pudding. Great food. Good service. Cafeteria style walk through. Tables are close together which, along with the wood trim, gives it a homey feel. We ordered braised pork roast with mash potatoes, dark gravy, carrots, and green beans, and brisket with mash potatoes and white gravy. All of it was excellent. Like Sunday dinner at grandma's. No matter the building, if you cook very good food, they will come. For years, the abandoned-looking, nondescript little building in Provo, next to the most dilapidated daycare/child lockdown facility one could imagine from a Roald Dahl novel, seemed to evoke feelings of existential despair as I drove by it daily. At one point, I think it was occupied by a Tijuana gang fronting as a shoe shine service. Anyway, I could only shake my head when I first saw Molly's sign go up on that building, chuckling at the obvious naivete of some doe-eyed Mormon housewife, believing that she had been foreordained to spend all her family's savings on her pipe dream restaurant because all her relatives told her she was a good cook. All without considering the fact that the surrounding tow truck impound lots, child prison, and broken glass shattered on the nearby vagrant-dwelling river bridge made this environment the veritable armpit of Provo. Then someone from work wanted to eat lunch there as a group. I wanted to see the train wreck. After parking in a gravel lot, we stepped into the restaurant and I dropped my jaw as I saw a well-designed, clean, and inviting diner. And as I stood in a line 30-people deep to order food. I got the pot roast with mashed potatoes. Verdict: Molly knows what she is doing. Delicious, fresh green beans. Tender, flavorful meat. Candidly, I must confess that if Molly cooked for me on a daily basis, I would perform depraved acts for her at her request. Molly is not to be underestimated, and if she knew her own power, the fundamental social contracts, compacts and structures of our local civilization could break or collapse. Luckily, I've no idea which of the women behind the food counter she is. And I don't want to know. I just order everything and everything tastes like genuinely great food. I rarely go there now. I don't like tremendously successful and popular places where I must wait 45 minutes before eating because of crowds. Molly's is OK and worth a try. I would not say they are great. The lunch line is usually long and the staff seems kind of crabby. "Hey, I'm a customer wanting to buy what you are selling. How about a smile?" $9.95 for the brisket lunch, it was good but super skimpy on the brisket. Three smallish slices off of the small end of the brisket. I am guessing maybe 3 or 4 oz. I left hungry. I don't eat bread, or potatoes which I am sure would have filled me up. Meat and vegetable, did not do the trick this time. My wife got the tomato basil pie. I only had a taste, but yes, it is that good. The other thing that bugs me is the cash register, exit and soda fountain are all kinda scrunched together. Paying for food, trying to fill your soda, other customers getting re-fills, and the exit all make for a mucho mess. read more

The ribs with the green beans and mashed potatoes were superb and...wait a min. that's right I didn't get the mashed potatoes..they ran out of potatoes at 7 in the evening. Oh well I still imagined they would have been the perfect complement to a lovely supper. At an adjacent table a woman was having her mashed potatoes with country gravy (having arrived 10 min. in front of me) and seemed to be savoring the down home goodness of that particular side dish with her French pot roast (also awol at my fashionably late arrival time). I'm sorry, I don't mean to beat a dead horse (oh and FYI they were out of that protein as well) but I really wanted to sample the mashed potatoes I had previously read about in this very same blog. The evening was saved however by the appearance of a quite pleasing glass of Molly's own secret recipe lemonade of which I enjoyed several pints. I believe another visit is warranted none the less, at which time I plan to dine on the braised pork, mashed potatoes and perhaps the sautéed squash if offered, and allowing of course for an earlier arrival. I get take out for my house-bound wife everyday they are open . We have tried about everything on the menu and every choice is excellent. I would say our favorite is chopped lean brisket on pear gorgonzola salad with a cheddar biscuit and German Chocolate Brownie for dessert. The service is the highlight of my day. Was excited to have Molly's secured for a Saturday wedding luncheon only to learn 10 days in advance that they had overbooked and we were booted out. Management didn't offer to help us find another venue. Just told us we could either hold the luncheon 2 hours later or find another place to be catered. Could not believe it! We found a more beautiful setting for the luncheon offered to us at a discount because they thought what happened to us was unthinkable! Management did apologize and gave us coupons for free meals. I live right up the road from Molly's so I go there often. I've experienced their catering (Marvellous Catering) and have gone into their restaurant dozens of times, I've always been impressed with their service, the ambiance they create & the mouth-watering food they make! When you walk in, you immediately feel like family... it is a family run business, so they're good at making you feel that way.lol. Every once in a while if you are there around closing, there is an older lady who walks around to the tables giving out left over cake because they don't want to waste them. It doesn't happen often, but that gesture alone keeps me going back. Their service is unparalleled, and their food is exquisite! The restaurant isn't open every day, in fact I believe it's just 3-4 days a week w/ days & times changing every now and then because they are so busy with catering... however, the food and experience as a whole makes their schedule worth adapting to! read more
