Chopped scallop temaki and bluefin Hosomaki

I did not go to this place so I would not be able to describe the ambiance and service. However, I did order take out delivery and have to say based on the food, I was satisfied with the quality and the time it took for the food to be delivered. I had the Chopped scallop temaki and the bluefin tuna hosemaki. They were both tasty and fresh. Based on the food alone, I would recommend this place for some nice takeout sushi.

A very small sushi spot located in Kitsilano. Given the limited space, I would recommend only coming by yourself or in groups of 2 to 4. I've been here a few times and have really enjoyed their sushi. They have a variety of options ranging from standard rolls, unique special rolls and dishes, to more higher-end pieces of sushi. Service has usually been on the slower end, with only one individual on the floor from my expeirence. The times I've been, I've always been offered a complimentary yuzu tea at the end of the meal, which is very nice during a cold evening.

Chirashi Don take out. I'm surprised at the amount of sashimi the don contains. Really fresh. Definitely will go back to visit again.

Great pick up service. I ordered 15 minutes in advance and pick up no issue. The value for the food is great. I just find it difficult to park around the area.

My friends took me to Moltan and it was some of the best sushi I've had in a while! We ordered several items to share: a bunch of rolls, two orders of MOLTAN's 8 piece nigiri set, MOLTAN's aburi set, and the lobster roll pasta. Everything we ordered was high quality, fresh, and well crafted to perfection, however, I want to give a special mention to the lobster roll pasta. We weren't planning on ordering it at first, but I read a Yelp review that highlighted it and told my friends, so we decided to add it, and it was indeed the item that we found unique to MOLTAN that makes this place a notch above most high end sushi spots. One thing to keep in mind: the restaurant is small, and there aren't a lot of seats, so there could be a wait. We weren't in a rush, so we didn't mind, but if you're in a larger group, this could make things challenging.

Whenever I find myself on the west side of town I'm sure to hit up Moltan. From the great quantity and high quality of ingredients and service is why this is such a place of high value. Perfect cozy spot to hit up for that seafood cravings on a rainy day :)

Long awaited....Moltan Roll Bar a little nook in Kits that I have seen time and time again on social media but have never made trek out for. Luckily my cousins were in town and wanted to give it a shot. We came in on a quiet Monday afternoon and were sat quickly. The food came promptly and very nicely plated - everything looked so pretty! We were also given complimentary drinks which was a really nice gesture. Sushi: The hot blue roll was okay - I think the sauce was a bit on the heavier side and it was harder to taste the actual fish. I liked the deep sea crab roll - real crab meat was very yummy! Bluefin trio definitely hit the spot - the fish quality is good. My cousin in law ordered the Chutoro Uni don to fix her cravings and she felt that it was good but since the restaurant had run out of local uni and only had Hokkaido uni (she was looking forward to local uni), she personally felt it was not as good as some other places she's been to in Vancouver. Pasta: The rose lobster pasta was such a pleasant surprise - it comes with a whole lobster tail on top which was very delicious! The flavour was good, great for tomato lovers who want a rich flavourful pasta. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Service was amazing - our tea cups were never empty and the server even gave us citron tea in to go cups afterwards. So sweet. My cousins felt that the cost to quality ratio wasn't quite there but I would like to come back to try some of the other things and hopefully enhance my flavour town experience next time.

Went back a few months ago w/ the fam as been ordering their spicy salmon Temaki hand rolls as a quick lunch option as tend to work nearby as they're soo good! When I took my fam, we ordered the spicy salmon hand rolls in addition to the salmon avocado and spicy tuna rolls, hot baby Aburi, double trouble and salmon battera. My family also ordered Otoro hand roll, and beef teriyaki which my nephew enjoyed. We paired it with Yuki Hotaru Sake.

Was in Canada for long weekend without the kids and my husband made reservations to try Moltan. Small cozy place, had about 8 tables set of 2, so 16 seats total or so. I wouldn't recommend a large party of more than 4-6 here. Make sure to make reservations too. We tried their Deluxe Sashimi set $50, all the fish was fresh, Bluefin toro and Uni Don $39, My husband meant to order chu-toro but the bluefin was also good, just a tad too fatty for us, still melts into your mouth. Deep sea crab roll and White lava roll was a good size, along with a Uni temaki handroll. Everything was delicious! My favorites were the sashimis, Uni and Lava roll! We'll definitely be back to try more items and bring my 2 kids next time too. Love that this restaurant is so close to the playground and beach too, so can take a nice walk after eating. For the 2 of us, we spent around 170$ cad after everything (tip and tax etc), which is great price.

Food is amazing! I enjoyed all the food they served especially the Blue & uni aburi and Uni Pasta! They have an incredible selection of unique and delicious combinations throughout their menu. However, be mindful that the restaurant is quite small and the coat hangers I find are a bit odd in their placement. If your situated near the back be careful of the coat hangers sticking out of the wall as you might hit your head when getting up from your seat or walking towards the washroom.

Does anyone know what is the definition of moltAn? I couldn't find the meaning but it doesn't MATTER when the sashimi at Moltan Roll Bar + Sake was MAGMA-nificent! I read that this place was small with limited seating, so I made reservations and 5pm was the only time slot that they had. We were the first ones there but it slowly filled up afterwards. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. I loved the little details like the tiny flowers and gold flakes on the sashimi platter. They also gave us all a hot drink each to go after we paid for the bill. On the table: Moltan's Ultimate Sashimi (30 pcs) 8 different types of daily fresh selection C$90.00 Unagi Oshi unagi, avocado, mayo, sesame oil, garlic flake C$15.00 Black Saba Battera marinated mackerel, ginger, green onion, shiso. C$16.00 Lobster nigiri C$7.00 Ikura nigiri C$4.00 HAKUTSURU - SAYURI NIGORI SAKE 300ml $10 Tip: There are a lot of free parking spots around the block and some after 6pm on the main street too!

Moltan Roll Bar + Sake We have made a reservation for 4 people. This restaurant is very small so they only allow 2 hours per table reservation. - Moltan's Super Kaisendon - Bluefin & Uni Don - Pink Ocean Maki - Salmon Oshi Love all the toro + uni here Fresh, sweet, and melted in your mouth. - Yuzu Soda - Yuzu Orange Breeze Sake - Grapefruit Sake - Green Grape Sake I like my drink - Green Grape Sake as it's sweet with a beautiful decoration on top. Taste: 4.5/5 At the end of the meal, the yuzu tea are given. It's good to have some citric drink to ease the bloated stomach. Be sure to make a reservation! I was hoping to walk in on a Thursday night but they were fully booked I got a BlueFin Trio don ($35) to-go and they even gave me some yuzu tea while I waited for the chef to prepare the order The tuna was fresh but the rice was a bit too hard for me to enjoy I think I would enjoy dining in the restaurant more like their aburi sets and rolls!

Such an excellent sushi restaurant in Vancouver. I had the opportunity to try them out last winter and it was marvellous. The Moltan Ultimate sashimi is a must have, the presentation to the freshness is impeccable. The nigiri sushi combo was also very well done. The place itself is a bit small, with limited number of tables, so reservation is highly recommended.

We arrived around 2 PM for our reservation and were greeted warmly right away, which made for a great first impression. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The bamboo divider running through the middle of the space gave it a cozy, modern Japanese-inspired feel, and the overall atmosphere was probably my favorite part of the experience. As for the food, unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I ordered the seafood sizzler bowl, and while it wasn't bad by any means, it felt underwhelming for the price. The bowl was mostly rice, with a few small prawns, tiny scallops, a little roe, and some crab mixed in. I was expecting something more seafood-forward, so it ended up feeling more like a deconstructed fried rice than the premium dish I had envisioned. Same with the unagi bowl, couple small pieces of unagi cut up... The appetizers were actually the highlight of the meal and ended up being more memorable than my main course. I kept waiting for a dish to really wow me, but nothing stood out enough to make me crave a return visit. Maybe I just ordered the wrong items, because I know this place has plenty of fans. Overall, I'm glad I tried it, but based on this visit, I don't see myself making a special trip back.

But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

I asked for low sodium option however the first few nigiri is a bit too salty and I have notified the server so the chef can adjust immediately. I enjoy the Hokkaido uni nigiri the last smoked fish nigiri the most. The fresh crab and salmon roe rice and beef soba noodles at the end have a nice touch of finesse. There are a number of birthday celebrations and they asked for names to acknowledge and celebrate the birthdays. A little musical piano "performance" for the happy birthday song. Matcha green tea is served at the end to wrap up the omakase. Overall an enjoyable experience but not necessarily impressive as a Michelin 1 star restaurant. Me, I know nothing about Izakaya or what is or isn't authentic Japanese cuisine, so this review is coming from someone with zero knowledge or expectation of any specific foods or experiences. Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed. It was good that we had a reservation. There was a couple in line before me and they were walk-ins, and there were no available seats for them. I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).

Even on a Thursday night, the restaurant was nearly full, which speaks to its popularity. I ordered the Tako Sunomono and the Premium Chirashi Don. Tako Sunomono: The octopus was perfectly tender and the vinegar dressing was refreshing--exactly what I needed to wash away the fatigue of the day. Premium Chirashi Don: The presentation was stunning and immediately worked up my appetite. Every piece of seafood was incredibly fresh and of high quality. You can really taste the difference here. If you're looking for healthy, fresh, and beautifully presented Japanese cuisine, Shizenya is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
