    Katsu curry
    CL C.

Friendly service, clean space. Got the katsu curry, katsu was crispy and fresh. Rice was cooked right. Curry was flavorful, right level of salt and thickness. Comes with 2 little slices of pickles. Wish it came with a few pieces of broccoli or a little side salad. Most other places give a bit a of veggies. That's the one thing missing with this dish. Also, everything is served in a to go box. Unnecessary plastic. I was dining in so I wish they used a ceramic plate to reduce waste and microplastic exposure. Hot foot in plastic = max microplastics.

Chicken Karage ($18) and Unagi ($25) bentos. Good variety but steep prices.

We used to patronize the former Umami so decided to check out its replacement. There were no other patrons when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon. The menu is fairly limited and prices were steep for bentos. We got the Chicken Karage ($18) and Unagi ($25) bentos. The main entrees were accompanied by tempera, 1 gyoza, and other items so they were filling. Taste was fine but nothing to rave about. It appears to be a 1 or 2 person operation. Several customers came in and waited with no one at the counter I had to get up twice to alert them. The walls were bare and they had hip hop music playing. Overall, it was good to try once but unlikely we will return.

This place is exceptional! I heard that this replaced the Umami Japanese restaurant (which was pretty good!) I love how their bento boxes are unique, and quite filling for a meal! I got the chicken kaarage bento which had the rice base, and around it, a veggie mix, egg, beef patty, seaweed & tempura! This was such a wide variety (: I absolutely loved their triangle kimbaps! My bf got one for us to share which was the tuna one. Such a great snack idea too. I loved them so much, I'd love to come back and get more! My bf got the chicken katsu bowl and the katsu was crisp and the sauce was perfect! It came with scrambled eggs and rice. We ordered take out on this one; it's mostly convenient in that sense but would love to check out the establishment soon!

Lovely, friendly experience. Delicious, hot food. I ordered a chicken karrage bento and galbi kimbab. Both were made to order and with care. I ate in the clean, simple dining room. Would go back again. Recommend ordering in advance during lunch rush.

The place is cute inside, spacious, and clean. I got takeout for chicken katsu bento, which was very flavorful and filling. The main katsu was delicious as well as the other little side dishes including japchae, bulgogi, and tempura assortment. Food came out fast and everything was neatly packed. Staff is really kind and pleasant. High quality food, and I'd love to come back to try their other new menu choices!

I have to wait 50mins to get the food, it's ridiculous and not make sense for me to eat a simple lunch

This is my 2nd time visit and the food was delicious, service was great, and portion was generous. Must try Unagi bento.

A lot of options on the menu but I ended up ordering their rosu katsu with oroshi ponzu sauce (basically grated radish and ponzu on the side). This was a good choice as I was able to try their tonkatsu with the grated radish ponzu sauce and alternate with the regular tonkatsu sauce that's provided on the table. Only thing I wish they did was provide unlimited cabbage salad and rice which other tonkatsu places I've been to did. Parking was easy. Just use the retail parking lot located at Ember Apartments (parking entrance is off 40th Ave W). If you need to wait, there's always He Cha Lou next door.

The Japanese curry was flavorful with a little kick, and it was nice and thick. Personally, that's exactly how I like Japanese curry, and many other things. The interior is clean, modern, bright, and open, which makes the restaurant feel comfortable and welcoming. Service was just okay. My lunch date wanted a substitution, but there seemed to be some confusion and we ended up being charged for an additional side of potato salad. Normally, no big deal, but nearly $8 for a scoop of potato salad felt pretty steep. Overall, I enjoyed the food, but pricing is definitely on the higher side for what feels like a quick lunch. With tip, we were pushing $75 for two people, which makes it harder to call this a casual lunch spot. Also, street parking around here can be a bit of a challenge during the lunch rush. Good curry and udon, nice atmosphere, but bring your appetite--and your wallet.

We came in the evening after day 2 of Geekfest and it was pretty busy inside. Luckily there was a spot open for two so we were seated and given menus. The inside is a bit dim, there were lots of tables with chairs or booth seats throughout, and there was even bar seating as well. My boyfriend ordered tonkotsu ramen and crunchy salmon roll as well as takoyaki to share while I got their red volcano tonkotsu and a Thai iced tea. I noticed there was a Japanese customer who spoke with one of the waitresses and she spoke Japanese back and it was cool to see and hear that! I wonder if the owners are Japanese as well as it's rare to find actual Japanese owned restaurants. The service here was friendly, courteous and they did check in every so often. The choice of music playing was quiet cafe music which was interesting but it was so hard to hear. My Thai iced tea came first then the takoyaki. Afterwards, our ramen bowls came not too long after that and the sushi roll came in last. I am so happy to say that the takoyaki was the perfect ratio of batter, octopus, and sauces on top. The ramen broth was hearty and smooth. I loved how spicy my red volcano tonkotsu was especially because I love things extremely spicy and it was definitely a fantastic ramen for spicy lovers. My boyfriend said he was very happy with his roll and ramen. He usually doesn't order ramen too often especially on a hot day but he said he was happy he did as it was one of the better ones he's had. My Thai iced tea was the right amount of sweetness and the perfect thing to sip on while handling my spicy ramen. I definitely want to come back to try their other selections.

The chirashi bowl came loaded with quality sashimi over well-seasoned rice, generous portions without feeling sloppy.
