Would recommend for sushi, but not generally for the other Japanese offerings here. This place is run by Korean folks, and the Japanese flavors in their offerings don't hit just right. I'd much rather recommend heading down south closer to Seattle for authentic Japanese that's not sushi, or if you don't want to drive that far, go to Lynnwood for awesome Korean food. A prime example is the Katsu Curry, which was closer to Korean-style Katsu that Japanese. It wasn't thick enough to be Japanese style, which made the cut awkward and wasn't as tender and juicy as I was hoping for. The fresh/sushi offerings were great though, and I was excited to find a decent sushi spot with reasonable prices up north. The Albacore Tataki and the two other rolls we tried (Spicy Tuna and Crunch Tiger, not pictured) were both delicious and well worth the price for lunch. This place is truly fantastic. Everything is so delicious! The atmosphere is great, the prices are very affordable, the food is incredibly fresh, and the staff are so friendly. Even though I live far away, I think the Sakuma is going to become my go-to spot. The food is so good that I'd take a ferry just to come back and eat here again! Recently we realized that this restaurant has changed ownership, so happened passing the vicinity today, we dropped in to verify the food quality after we were absent from this place for a while. We ordered our favoite dishes as usual, noticed price has gone up a little, but food quality is still the same, and portions seems bigger in certain dishes. I was pleasantly surprised by Sakuma. For a restaurant that has been around since 2007, it has a very small footprint. I only became aware of it recently because it was recommended to me. I didn't expect much, but I am moving it into my Rotation Collection. The Beef Curry Udon was very good. The noodles had a good al dente chewiness in an excellent Japanese vegetable curry to which they added sukiyaki cut beef. I would have preferred chunks of beef that were well stewed in the curry, but many restaurants just make the veg and add beef or chicken at the end. The prices are very fair, and the menu has a good variety. The service is very friendly and attentive. The decor is pleasant and kept very clean. A satisfying experience. read more

We were craving some sushi one night and ended up finding Sakuma open nearby so we decided to check it out. The pictures here honestly looked so good, I already had high hopes of good quality sushi. Just before 8pm, I placed an order for 8 rolls. I knew they closed at 9 so it was slightly late to be ordering that large of an order but they seemed to have no issues with it and we had our food right at the estimated pickup time (8:40). Once we got home, I opened the boxes and everything looked AMAZING. Better than I was even expecting. The fish seemed so fresh, everything had such good flavor, it blew me away. The rolls are huge so be prepared for big bites of deliciousness! We decided that this is our new favorite sushi spot pretty much instantly so we'll be returning often. The inside looks really nice as well so I'm looking forward to dining in soon. read more

We had a really weird service experience here. We ordered online using Door Dash we were told it would take about 40 minutes until we could go pick up our food but when we arrived after the 40 minutes we were told that they didn't have our order. What had happened was that the restaurant didn't confirm our order and we ended up having to wait 30 more minutes. When we went in the second time to get the food we overheard one of the people working tell their worker that we had ordered incorrectly and that we messed it up??? Kinda strange and we didn't appreciate being made to feel stupid by the staff. The food ended up being really delicious though. We ordered the Spider Roll, Crunchy California, Dragon Roll, and Beef Sukiyaki. We'll probably come back and try this place again but just a warning if you're using Door Dash or Grub Hub maybe call in to confirm your order??? I have gone to the Sakuma restaurant for years when it was owned by the former owners. Today i went to try the new owners and I was really disappointed in just everything i am sorry to say. I ordered sashimi and the pieces were very small and thin. There was also a feeling of the fish being a bit old. The color wasnt right. As a Japanese-American person whose mother cooked traditional meals for the family, I am always looking for traditional cooking like "Mom's". The exterior belies the friendly welcome and traditional send-off following the meal. You can watch your sushi and meal being readied by an experienced crew. Your server has probably worked there for a number of years and will be attentive but non-intrusive. If wintertime or cold out, I love the beef sukiyaki. It's a farmer's stew with a delicious broth, or dashi. My wife and I find the combo plates are a real bargain and a way to try healthy portions of at least two of our favorite entrees. When growing up we couldn't afford the pricey cuts of fish, so the rolls and handmade sushi and hand rolls are really a treat. We noticed some diners ordered only sumptuous rolls and sushi, skipping the full dinners. I won't bore you with more details, but give Sakuma a try. We think it is a very zesty and tasty restaurant offering solid pricing on menu items. read more

Be advised, Sakuma is in a small strip mall with limited parking. During the mid-week lunch rush parking can sometimes be a challenge. This review is on carry out as my office orders somewhat frequently for carry out only. Wait times can vary from 15-35 minutes for pick up and there's not a ton of space to hang around and wait once you get there. The good news is the restaurant is always PACKED for lunch which I always take as a good sign for quality. The sushi is fresh and we've never had an incorrect order. That being said, customer service both on the phone and in person is lacking. I know they are busy but you don't have to be rude. Solid 3 stars it you're looking for a lunch spot. read more
