Been coming to starfish for several years now and it always delivers. The sushi is always fresh, the hot dishes always hit the spot too. The decor is fun! Service felt a little rushed on this particular visit but the place was also full. I don't recall them always having dinner bento boxes (or maybe I just never noticed before) but they were a great option for this visit when I was particularly hungry. The ramen was huge and they were generous with the topics plus some bonus sides. We even got an appetizer on the house. I'm a fan of the consistent service and food quality. Great for vegetarians as well!
First time eating at Starfish sushi. It was so packed (which is a good sign!) But we went on a Saturday night at 7pm so it was prime time. Our waitress was super nice and the food was quick despite how busy it was. I had one of their bento boxes with sashimi and sushi. The sashimi was top notch and not fishy AT ALL. Delicious! My husband had a few rolls like ocean drive and salmon sunshine which reminded us of Blufish. The overall ambiance is good, they have a large bar as well with a ton of spirits. Overall a great spot and we definitely will be returning!
I want to highlight the Salmon Poke Bowl. I cannot say enough good things about the quality, flavor and presentation. The bowl was filled with robust leafy mixed greens, edamame, avocado. I was very happy with the mixed greens ratio to the rice. The rice was about a fist size amount, just the right amount so that I didn't feel like I was eating solely bowl of rice. There were several pieces of fish - considerable,thick, and fresh. The potato crisps give it a nice crunchy texture to contrast the pieces of salmon. I absolutely loved it. The service was friendly. I always expect long waits for dishes to be prepared. During busy, peak hours, there were a few Sushi Chefs, but it was still quite a wait. But the quality of the Poke Bowl was certainly worth the wait!
Tartare tamaki is my favorite here. Other dishes are decent in general. Excellent decoration.
Oh man, this is the kind of place that makes it hard to write a review because of Yelp's star system. Starfish is like... a 4.5 stars. First, the restaurant is nicely sized, anchoring a plaza. The inside is nice and has a mix of Asian touches (like different regions). The music is a touch on the louder side, but not impossible. It contributes to a more casual vibe. The menu is fairly sized as well. It has a combination of Japanese cuisines, sushi, and more and more Korean influences. There is a big variety of fishes on the sushi, which is confident! The service is attentive, but on my second trip, it felt really rushed. Like hovering. The management also seemed to be floating around the dining room, which is always nice to see. The sushi is well-prepared and wonderfully presented! The dry ice never stops flowing! Do you like truffle oil? Cause they got it! They also present a complimentary hors d'oeuvre of a single "perfect" bite. We had various sushi, nigiri, and I even had the ramen - which was a super generous portion. All very nice. Prices are average, but the presentation is priceless. I think the ambiance is a little mixed - it somewhere between classy and casual (there was a "Happy Birthday" song by the staff during one of my trips). So maybe keep that in mind when you visit.
I came here on a Yelp-search whim, and was highly satisfied with this place. Apparently I've driven past this place several times, but it's somewhat tucked-in the corner of the strip mall, so IMHO, easy to miss. That being said, what a hidden gem! Starfish Sushi was a great dining experience. I would put it in the same caliber as Blufish; you go in there and it's a great classy date occasion. Service was fast, and the food was good. We ordered: Chicken bento box Sushi bento box Deep fried soft shell crab Rainbow roll Golden Dragon Presentation of the food was great... all the appetizers and rolls came with a little shot glass of dry ice. I enjoyed the chicken bento box quite a lot. t came with unique tempura such as sweet potato, asparagus. The salad was good, and so was the chicken. The only small gripe was that at $25, this was on-par with usually more expensive bento boxes like the sushi & sashimi bento box. The deep fried soft shell crab was a great appetizer. The bang-bang sauce that came with it was really good, a the crab was delicious. I highly recommend this appetizer. Food, service, and ambiance was great. I would go back again.
Our experience started out rocky... we had a 7pm reservation on a Friday night. We were seated right away and then..... sat for 25-30 minutes and no one came to our table, except a guy with two glasses of water. We sat there looking at every passing server, but no one stopped at our table. We contemplated walking out and going somewhere else, but we had our hearts set on sushi, so I went up to the front podium and alerted them to the issue and then everything was great from there. For some, that might have completely ruined the experience, but I know that people have their days and since the nice waitress who I informed of the issue personally took care of us, she was extremely apologetic and attentive. So we moved on. The sushi was SO GOOD. They had so many interesting roll options with unique flavor combinations that it was hard to not be happy with the meal once we finally were served. We started with the Spicy Edamame which was basically edamame covered in sweet chili sauce. It was good, but a bit messy. I love edamame, but I'm not sure I'd order the spicy version again. I don't think the chili sauce added anything for me. Next, they provided a complimentary crab salad on a crispy wonton. This was incredible. I wish I actually knew what it was and if I could order more. For sushi, we ordered the Crispy Tuna Rice, Godzilla, Mango Madness, Blue Fin Toro, and Kamikaze. It was way too much for two people, but we tried our hardest. Every roll was so delicious and fresh. The rice was cooked to the perfect tenderness (not too soggy). The flavor combinations were like a party in my mouth. My favorite roll was the Mango Madness roll, second favorite was the Crispy Rice Tuna. We will definitely go back!!
I went to starfish sushi for dinner on a Thursday and we were seated right away without any wait. The staff were very welcoming and checked on us frequently. The restaurant has a modern vibe to it. I started with the spicy edamame which is coated with what tasted like a gochujang sauce. For my entree I ordered the spicy miso ramen which comes with pork, a jammy egg and some fish cakes. The noodles were cooked well and had a nice chew. The broth was definitely on the milder side and I wish it had more of an umami flavor to it. The miso ramen did come with a small side of pickled vegetables and a delicious croquet of sorts. I also tried the blood orange mimosa which was tart and refreshing! Overall an enjoyable experience but I do wish the ramen broth was a bit more flavorful.
This sushi place is my current guilty pleasure. It's about 5 minutes away from my place of work and we've had two team meals here in the past few weeks. We were greeted with kind employees and there was plenty of space for our 6-person team. We also had an early dinner, so there weren't a lot of guests yet. Most of the team got sushi and everyone loved it. Take a look at the pictures below and I apologize if I messed up some of the roll names. The first time here, I got the spicy miso ramen, which was savory, spicy and delicious. I would get it again. The second time I got a spicy sushi combo, which consisted of spicy tuna, spicy shrimp, and an inferno roll. Overall, I'm happy with the quality of the food, the flavors, and the value for the price. That said, the prices are slightly high for some rolls, but the portions are big. This is definitely our go-to team meeting place!
Terrible service. I made a reservation through OpenTable and arrived on time, but I wasn't seated at a table. They told me to stand in line and wait for about an hour. This is unacceptable. It's unacceptable when you plan ahead and reserve a table, but upon arrival you can't get what you reserved.
I came here on a Wednesday night before seeing a show at the Marriott Theater. I made reservations online so we were seated promptly as we got inside the place. I liked that the parking was easy since it was in a strip mall. The interior was neat and nice. It took awhile for someone to attend to our table, I had to get the attention of the hostess in order to at least get some menus. It took quite awhile again to put our orders in, and I mentioned to the server that we had to make it on time for a show. We ordered: EDAMAME, SPICY CRUNCH CRAB, and the 911 rolls. The rolls were ok, I was a tad disappointed that the sauce drizzled on top of the 911 roll was just a bottled hot sauce. The service was slow, I'll be honest. The place was not full when we got here. Our server gave me the wrong type of wine, twice. The bartender noticed that our server would just grab a glass of wine that he would pour, without checking which customer it was for. He served my glass of wine himself, to make sure that I got the right one. Overall, it was not a bad place to get sushi in the area. Maybe I'll try different rolls next time and hopefully, service will be more efficient and accurate.
Went for Mother's Day and they decorated each table with flowers and a Mother's Day balloon. Ordered multiple rolls the sexy lady, crazy dragon and rainbow. Ratio of fish to rice was plentiful, fish was quite fresh and all the sauces and toppings were complimentary to the fish and not overpowering. Portion sizes were quite good as well. Price was what you would expect for quality fish. The star was the blue fin torro. The torro was buttery and melt in your mouth. The truffle oil added a nice umami flavor really raising the flavor of the tuna. There was also a nice hint of salt which punctuated the flavor. I will order this every time and not get tired of it. Ordered the don katsu for the kids and sadly it was very underwhelming. The breading was very very thin so there was not much of a crunch that you crave with don katsu. The pork was also very very dry. The sushi is definitely the star here and you won't be disappointed. Good quality sushi and ambiance. Will be back soon.

We had a nice table towards the middle of the restaurant with a view of the kitchen. Two people in our party had been here previously and said food is great but service was so-so. Tonight, our service was excellent. Attentive but not interrupting. The chef came out and brought a few items on the house. We ordered various drinks, martinis, wine and beers. Two of us started off with Starfish Greens. I had no idea how big these salads are, so one could have fed the four of us as an appetizer. One in our party could not have shellfish. We decided to order something each and share them all. Two of us started off with something not on the menu. Salmon with caviar and quail egg, which was amazing. We also got Bulgoki Taco, which is Soft shell taco with marinated sliced rib eye, lettuce, cheese & guacamole. We then ordered rolls: Dragon Fire, Rainbow Roll, Crazy Dragon (did have shellfish so we kept that separate from the other rolls), Salmon Avacodo and Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna. I felt the prices were very reasonable considering the quality and proportion. All in all, a great dinner and we will return. Worth the visit.

Came here for the first time on a Friday night and we did make reservations, even though we were here for the very first seating when they opened at 4 o'clock. Glad that we did because by the time that we left at 7 o'clock the entire place was packed. It is located in a strip mall with other restaurants and parking is very ample. So this should not be an issue. When you walk into the place, it is super modern in style and current music is blasting over the loudspeakers. The sushi bar prep area is also open invisible which I think is very nice. There's lots of different kinds of seating as well throughout the restaurant. The menu is very extensive as far as all the creative and special sushi rolls that they offer. So there is something here for everybody. As you can tell from the menu, it's probably not the most authentic sushi experience however it is probably a fun and creative one. The owners, I believe our Korean hence when we ordered the beef bento box, the beef that came out was definitely not beef teriyaki but rather the beef that is used for beef Bulgogi. The food overall was very good so no complaints there. In fact, the kitchen even brought out two small free tasting appetizers if you want to call them that for myself and my friend. They were also very delicious and creative. We were here celebrating a birthday and the automatic rolling waiter came out with the waiters and server singing, happy birthday along with birthday sword balloons, and you get a free ice cream with a candle. This was more than enough and very sufficient. The staff was very, very nice here. Our waitress was super friendly and funny as well. My only complaint here is that when we ordered the bento box, we learned that if you order white rice versus the standard fried rice that comes with it, there is a three dollar up charge. This makes absolutely no sense because rice is first cooked to be white then it is messed up to become fried rice so if anything there should've been a three dollar down charge. Come to this restaurant if you're in the area for sure and if you want some creative, fun sushi rolls definitely. This place is fairly priced and what I would consider modern American sushi. read more

Came here for a birthday dinner with friends visiting from out of state, and Starfish Sushi absolutely delivered. We started with drinks which were unique and very tasty. My lychee martini was perfection, my husband loved his Japanese whisky, and our friends were obsessed with their sake mixed drinks. The waiter and chef were incredibly supportive and reassuring with what gluten-free options were available. Everything one I can be made gluten free besides noodles and tempura. This really made ordering a breeze. For food, I had the sashimi bento box and shared a speciality roll with my husband; literally the freshest and most flavorful sushi I have ever had. They also provided gluten free soy sauce as well! My husband had spicy ramen, which was a generous portion size and he reported it was fantastic. Everyone absolutely loved their food and this place has now become our go to sushi and ramen spot; a little something for everyone. Service was attentive and caring, making the night feel easy and celebratory. The atmosphere was fun, but not too loud. Highly recommend! read more

Starfish Sushi is located not too far from the Lincolnshire Marriot theatre and was a perfect place for friends to grab some dinner before a show. The place was not busy at the time we went on Friday night but had started filling up by the time we left. The service was quick and efficient. Started the night with their soup and salad. The salad was amazing. I'm not one to usually rant about a salad but from the first bite the blend of flavors, I just couldn't stop. I thought this place was going to be overpriced but for the quality and quantity of the food it matches up. The portions they were bringing out were huge. We even got to start with a crab nacho chip appetizer (I can't remember the name) but that was a beautiful blend of textures and taste. I ordered the chicken katsu and spicy tuna crunchy rice roll. The chicken katsu was nicely crispy and the tangy sauce paired well with it. I enjoyed my sushi roll also. The tuna tasted fresh and the Wasabi on top was just enough. Also tried a bit of bulgogi, it wasn't my favorite but it still tasted decent enough. The menu is huge and I'll have to make a return to try some more of their items. As someone who is a big fan of the delicious food offered by the Shakou restaurants in the area, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Starfish Sushi which has many similar characteristics which make it an excellent choice to dine at. Starfish Sushi mirrors the fine decor, excellent service, large menu, and reasonable prices that make this a great place to take friends and family. The enormous portions, flavorful combinations, and excellent presentation are a huge plus in addition to its proximity to the Marriott Theatre! Even close to show time, it shouldn't be too difficult to find a table, which is a concern for those who are dining right before show time. The food here is definitely one of the strong points. With colorful plating and food elements, this is definitely video and photo worthy regardless of what you order. Fortunately, the food is just as strong in terms of well balanced and bold flavor combinations as well as lots of varieties of textures throughout. The house salad is a nice improvement over the standard offer with some crispy noodles on top to add some extra flavor and crunch while I enjoyed a slice of fresh citrus fruit inside as well. The shoyu ramen is full of tender chashu with lightly firm noodles and a slightly sweet shoyu broth. The salmon poke bowl has a delightful mix of different colors, flavors, and textures that make it a delight to eat without being overly saucy. This is a testament to the quality of fish and vegetables to present it in this way to highlight the freshness. The bulgoki entree was pretty good with lots of flavorful beef, though not as impressive as the other items I tried. The crispy rice spicy tuna was constructed in an orderly manner with clear contrast between the different elements and a good level of umami. The chicken katsu was enormous with a ton of meat in a nice thin and crispy batter and an addictive tangy sauce. The sushi and maki bento box provided a nice array of different options that was presented nicely. The slices of fish were nice and thick with a good freshness and not too much rice. Overall, delicious food, wonderful presentation, and very reasonable prices. This has now become one of my top options to dine at when I visit the Marriott Theatre. read more

Hands down the best sushi presentation I've ever experienced! Every piece was a work of art, and the fish quality was exceptional--so fresh and flavorful. What truly elevated the experience was the outstanding service. Manager Mason and server Anu went above and beyond, explaining each sushi piece with care and passion. Ate here for dinner for the first time, and I cannot say enough good things about this place! I had called in advance to make sure they had vegan options, of which they had plenty (although I wish the items were marked vegan on the menu). The entire staff was super friendly, and our server was excellent. He kindly explained the ingredients in any dish I asked about before ordering. The presentation of each dish was beautiful, and I especially loved the decorative dry ice accompanying most dishes! I ordered the king veggie maki and a hot stone rice bowl with veggies and tofu. Everything was fresh and deliscious! The bowl also came with a salad and miso soup, which tasted great! (Sorry, I forgot to take photos of those items.) The other three people I ate dinner with were vegetarian and omnivores. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered, and we will definitely be back again soon! Oh my gosh I love this place so much! The first time I dined here, I was about 6 months pregnant so I didn't get to try any of their delicious cocktails, but I did enjoy their awesome veggie rolls and tofu salad. I have since been here to dine for lunch or dinner two other occasions and have been equally impressed both times. Their cocktails are super yummy and the veggie combo's presentation is absolutely stunning. The food is a bit pricy, but I honestly think it's worth the price as everything has always tasted fresh and as I said, the presentation is amazing. The waitresses are very knowledgeable, attentive and friendly as well, and can provide great recommendations if you happen to need one (I did, as I was bringing dinner home for my meat eating significant other and had NO idea what to order my picky man child). Starfish sushi was sooooo delicious!!! I tried it recently and couldn't believe I hadn't been there sooner. The restaurant is beautiful. You walk in and the design is sleek and modern. Service was excellent too. They were happy to answer our questions and share recommendations since it was me and my parties first time there. I think this restaurant is special for their sashimi/nigiri. It was the most delicious I think I have ever had considering we live in IL! I'm sure there are places along the coasts that couldn't compare, but we are here and that's what matters, haha! The scallop sashimi was so incredible I could have happily ordered a ton of that and called it dinner. I will say, Starfish is a little on the pricier side, but completely worth coming every once and a while! read more
Let me start with the 5 star service. Blew me away. Attentive, friendly...the best. The menu is unbelievable. So many options I wish we lived closer. A nice cocktail and wine list. Great spirits. We started with the cucumber salad. 4 stars. Comes in a fried wonton shell with fresh greens and julienned cucumber with a great ginger creamy dressing just slightly sweet. We had the shrimp egg rolls. which were deep-fried. lots of shrimp. They cut on the diagonal so you could see the shrimp and everything else. mart. I have the shrimp tempura tapas. You get 5 of the freshest shrimp ever. I don't know how they did it. The tempura batter could have been crunchier. The shrimp was amazinglingly tender. Comes with a gingery tempura sauce. I like the traditional sweet soy better. No rice. Prices were decent. we sat outside which was really nice. read more
Starfish Sushi is a fantastic new find for sushi in Lincolnshire. My husband and I were looking for a restaurant that we could go to before going to the Marriott Theatre for a show. Starfish Sushi is only a mile away from the theatre and had plenty of seating at 6:00 on a Friday night. I ordered the non-spicy salmon poke bowl. My husband ordered shoyu ramen. Our server brought the table soup and salad. We also ordered a creamy crab nacho (not the actual name) appetizer. This was amazing. There were many flavors playing with each other and they played well together. At first, I thought that the prices were high, but when I saw the amount of food that was brought out, I can see why the prices are high. The portions are huge. The fish is my poke bowl was fresh, and there was a lot of it. We had planned on ordering dessert but we ran out of time since we had to get to our show. I highly recommend Starfish Sushi and will be coming back to try more of their menu offerings and the dessert! read more

Starfish has great selections of food. The food is on the pricey side, but they're delicious, and the presentation is beautiful. They have great lunch specials with lots of options. Interior is nice and spacious. Service has been good the past few times I went. I went again yesterday for their lunch special. The quality is good, and they also gave us a little bite on the house. read more

Was in the mood for a quick bite of sushi, and was very pleased with starfish! The service was exceptional, and I thought the food was extremely good based on the price. It was a little slow on the night I went, but the ambience was great, considering that the food was served with a nice little treatment I ordered the Godzilla roll and a cold appetizer of black truffle salmon, with a chocolate cake slice, I ultimately was given compliments of the chef, a tortilla chip with pieces of salmon and truffle oil, as well as another parting sushi piece, both were delicious read more
The food was delicious and portion sizes were generous! I had the bulgogi and the sushi and maki box. I particularly enjoyed the house salad with the crispy potato crunches on top. I highly recommend coming here for an enjoyable lunch or dinner! read more

Went to lunch here for my birthday out of the blues and I was glad I found this gem! First off, ambiance is nice. Service was amazing. I received complimentary appetizers and they were all delicious! I also got the panko scallops which were interesting in a good way. I had two rolls of specialized sushi rolls (golden dragon and blue tuna i think. They were fresh and delicious. This might be my favorite new sushi place in the burbs! Def highly recommended. Will def come back read more
