Sooooooo yummy . Service was fast and the salmon was perfect. We ordered so many roles and they were so freshhh. Will be returning soon!

Small neighborhood spot with surprising good sushi! The staff are friendly. We went on a weeknight for a spontaneous dinner and had a great meal. The prices are pretty standard for sushi places around the area. I was surprised that we were the only table there for an early dinner because the food is great. The fish portions are large and are fresh. I especially loved the large pieces of salmon. The fish was very tender. The presentation is beautiful. I'll be back to have more sushi!

Went on a Sunday night and had a great experience. Super fresh sushi and great service. We have driven past hundreds of times and finally stopped. So worth it. The menu is so large it was hard to decide. We will be back!

Our office is very close to here and after the first visit, we've come here couple of times. Sushi is great quality and prices are fair. Its a smaller restaurant which we like and staff is personable.

Quite disappointing. The Spicy Tuna Hand Roll was not what you'd normally expect it to be.. it's just two pieces of tuna and a smear of spicy mayo (not spicy). It looks like their Firecracker Hand Roll would be more like it (minus the tempura flakes). All three Maki Rolls- Spicy Beef, Snow Dragon, and Spicy Scallop were all just so-so... nothing special, lacking flavor and ingredients. If these simple rolls weren't even good, it makes you question their specialty rolls. Miso soup was fine but adding tofu like most other places would've better. Cucumber Salad was also fine, but too light in flavor (maybe needed more time to marinate). Prices were way too high for the quality, flavors, and portions. The rolls were baby bites! We were excited to try a new sushi place nearby, but we likely won't try again...

Lovely hidden gem of a restaurant! Amazing high quality sushi. We carried out tonight, but will be back in to dine. All of the sushi was fresh and beautifully presented.

Haven't visited in quite a while, particularly for dinner. The current chef seems to be doing a respectable job with ingredient selection and traditional preparation techniques. I didn't think we'd ever find Tara no Kiku (cod milt) fresh in Mundelein, but they're doing it. They have a nice selection to dine izakaya style. It's pretty spendy though, being higher than other similar spots around.

A hidden gem in Mundelein. Small and cozy sushi place with friendly servers and chefs. Our waiter was polite and attentive. We had our 1 year old daughter and got her set up with a high chair right away. We started our meal with some hot sake, gyoza and miso soup. Our server even brought a soup with some ice for our daughter which we didn't expect. This was a nice gesture since we can give her the soup right away. Usually we would have to wait for the soup to cool down before giving our baby something hot. We order the following: Maguro nigiri - fresh blue tuna with a kick of wasabi in between the rice and fish Sweet Potatoes maki - nicely crispy one of my favorite non fish roll Rainbow Maki - the assortment of sashimi on top of a California rolls. This is my go to roll here because they don't stuff this with crab stick but actually top with sashimi. Osaka Maki - tuna, avocado, cream cheese, cucumber, spicy Mayo and masago. Usually anything with cream cheese can be too much but I liked there was a good balance of tuna and cream cheese. Spicy Sake Maki - actual salmon pieces and not diced salmon. I always hesitate ordering anything with spicy Mayo and fish because it's usually dice fish which I hate but Osaka does it right with the salmon sashimi pieces. Spicy Scallop Maki - good ratio or spicy Mayo to scallop Negi Hamachi Maki - simple and tasty Green Tea Tiramisu - not overly sweet

I love supporting small businesses, and Osaka Sushi in Vernon Hills is a gem! We ordered mongo ika, itoyori, tako, maguro, hamachi toro sashimi, and the crazy, red dragon, and yama mori maki. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. The chef mentioned they import special fish directly from Japan every week, and you can really tell from the quality. The sashimi was particularly impressive, with vibrant colors that showcased its freshness. The service was very good They also had a specials poster this week which was very intriguing. We paired our meal with junmai sake, which complemented the food perfectly. Overall, a very good experience. Can't wait to visit again!

Unfortunately, there was an overwhelming stench of poo poo cachoo when we entered the lobby prior to getting seated. I don't know if it was the cleaning agents that were used but the stench was so gross and unpleasant, I'm surprised my hubs and I were agreeable to stay. Anyways, I digress. When we were seated, the smell dissipated, thankfully. We had a lovely waiter named Lauren. She took our order and my hubs ordered the chicken ramen and I ordered the ying yang bowl. I made mine a combo because it came with a Thai iced tea and pork bao bun. We also ordered the yakitori platter to share and my hubs ordered a strawberry banana smoothie. We didn't wait too long to receive the yakitori platter which was decent but the meat was lukewarm. It consisted of chicken thigh, beef skirt, pork belly, scallops and zucchini that were on skewers. The fact that they were lukewarm didn't work in their favor. The skewers were small and didn't really hold the weight of a heavy $16 process. I then received my thai iced tea which tasted fine and my hubs enjoyed his strawberry smoothie reporting that it was creamy and flavorful. The pork bao was small but pretty good. The pork was tender and flavorful but the bao bun was too thick. It was like the bao bun thickness to the pork ratio didn't match. Still tasty nonetheless. When we got our soups, they were absolutely delicious. My hubs enjoyed his chicken ramen and he ordered extra noodles which help to enhance the dish alongside the use of the chili paste and shichimi togarashi condiment. My hubs reports that the soup including the bits of chicken at first was bland but was enhanced massively when he seasoned with the shichimi togarashi seasoning. Like him, I agreed as well. My ying yang soup was also bland in the beginning but once I added my bowl of extra noodles, some chili paste, some cayenne pepper and the shichimi togarashi condiment....things started to look up. It was creamy, spicy and oh so delicious. Lastly, to end the night, we got the Japanese cherry blossom jelly and the matcha tiramisu. Both were delicious and light. The Cherry blossom was so yummy, it reminded me of lychee. Just light and very flavorful. Absolutely, visually stunning as welll....i believe the youngins would call it a "clean girl aesthetic". The Japanese matcha tiramisu was delectable. Creamy, spongy and topped with a wonderful matcha powder that isn't overwhelming. All in all, we enjoyed our dinner date here. The food was good, price is a little steep for what you get and the decor is cute, big and open....with the exception of the smell of a really fat dinosaur who had an accident in the lobby. Thankfully, when we were heading through the lobby to leave, the stench of the dinosaur dookie was almost completely gone. For those of you who want to try it, I'd say go for it but I would also say you wouldn't miss out on anything, if you didn't.

Glad that we did because by the time that we left at 7 o'clock the entire place was packed. It is located in a strip mall with other restaurants and parking is very ample. So this should not be an issue. When you walk into the place, it is super modern in style and current music is blasting over the loudspeakers. The sushi bar prep area is also open invisible which I think is very nice. There's lots of different kinds of seating as well throughout the restaurant. The menu is very extensive as far as all the creative and special sushi rolls that they offer. So there is something here for everybody. As you can tell from the menu, it's probably not the most authentic sushi experience however it is probably a fun and creative one. The owners, I believe our Korean hence when we ordered the beef bento box, the beef that came out was definitely not beef teriyaki but rather the beef that is used for beef Bulgogi. The food overall was very good so no complaints there. In fact, the kitchen even brought out two small free tasting appetizers if you want to call them that for myself and my friend. They were also very delicious and creative. We were here celebrating a birthday and the automatic rolling waiter came out with the waiters and server singing, happy birthday along with birthday sword balloons, and you get a free ice cream with a candle. This was more than enough and very sufficient. The staff was very, very nice here. Our waitress was super friendly and funny as well. My only complaint here is that when we ordered the bento box, we learned that if you order white rice versus the standard fried rice that comes with it, there is a three dollar up charge. This makes absolutely no sense because rice is first cooked to be white then it is messed up to become fried rice so if anything there should've been a three dollar down charge. Come to this restaurant if you're in the area for sure and if you want some creative, fun sushi rolls definitely. This place is fairly priced and what I would consider modern American sushi.
