This is a small location in a small strip mall. Very homey and old school don't let this fool you. Had the machacas and wow their home potatoes are the bomb with just the right amount of seasoning, the eggs and veggies were super fresh but while this was like eating at my grannies house, the salsa is the best I have ever eaten in a restaurant. There is some kick and as I right this my mouth is warm as good salsa should be. The flavor profile reminds me of southeastern az where I grew up. We thought the experience was ok...not spectacular and not terrible. Service is great...very friendly and welcoming, def great Texas hospitality that we have heard so much about. The food is really just ok...very typical diner style food, nothing very special about it. If average diner style food is your thing then this place would be it. THE MANAGER CALLED THE COPS ON ME OVER GRAVY, INSANE EXPERIENCE PLS READ!! BLATANT DISRESPECT TO A VIETNAM VETERAN. I'm so sad to be writing this review but it is paramount that people know how the management here chooses to go about remedying mistakes. I've been going to Moms since I was a little girl back when the original owners were still there and have such fond memories. Today that was all ruined by one careless and power tripping manager. I ordered a take out order for myself and arrived to pick up the order and saw they were a bit busy. Nothing unmanageable but you could tell some of the staff were overwhelmed. This manger was one of them. I'm very careful about take out ordered and missing items so I confirmed with this manger that my extra side of dressing was in my bag to which he confirmed yes. I got him with my order, no extra side of dressing and was missing hashbrowns. Not a huge deal but I definitely wanted it so I called them to let them know and a girl on the phone said to just come back up and get the missing items. *at NO POINT was I told I had to bring my receipt, this is important later* my elderly father was nice enough to offer to go get the missing items as he was home and when he arrives at the cafe, this manger guy proceeded to immediately start arguing with my father (who is a Vietnam veteran might I add, and was waring his veteran baseball cap when receiving this mistreatment) regarding the legitimacy of the complaint, in front a full room of customers with no shame. No concessions, no apology, he just wanted to argue with a customer, a old man at that, not cool or professional. The manager needs serious training in de-escalation because he did the opposite at every opportunity. My father of course got irritated and said a cuss word which ok not cool but this manager was literally going back and forth like a child. He was so ridiculous to the point that he claimed my father ASSAULTED him and called the COPS..OVER GRAVY YALL!! The cops later came and confirmed that the manager made no mention of assault so that was just a lie. I arrived with my receipt after my father called me telling me of this insane ordeal, and the manger, like a middle school child, decided that because he was upset with my father, he did not want to give me a refund out of pure pettiness. He only did so when the police advised him to later. The manager ended up TRESPASSING my father AND me over this one simple mistake on HIS part. To say this experience was wild would be an understatement. I have never in my life been met with such immaturity, lack of couth and disrespect by any restaurant staff much less a manger. I'm a Pennsylvanian small-town girl. I grew up in Central PA, and diners were just a part of my life. Moved to Dallas, and suddenly there's no diners, just hipster cafe's, upscale brunch places, Waffle Houses, IHOP's with bad service, and Denny's that don't taste like Denny's in the North East. What??? Culture shock!! When I lived closer to Addison I would frequent Pete's Cafe, and the food was alright, but then after moving to this area in Carrollton, I have found my cute little Texan diner that serves awesome food! Not the same as my version of a diner, but the closest thing I can find! Just add some more decor, make it open 24 hours a day, and then it's the diner's I know and love from home with a Tex-Mex twist to the menu. Atmosphere: (4/5) - A bit drafty, but cozy in general. It's that diner feeling of warm and fuzzy feelings of breakfast being cooked for you while you talk about life with friends. Food: (5/5) - Eggs, potatoes, meat: As good as any breakfast can get! No complaints! - The best thing about this place is..... they will serve me Mickey Mouse shaped chocolate chip pancakes and they won't make a fuss about me being an adult! Thank you! Thank you for letting me be a happy kid inside an adult's body! I love chocolate chip pancakes, and their's are very delicious, and being in a Mickey Mouse shape just makes me so happy for some reason. -Also randomly, their chili is super delicious here! Who knew an old-fashioned home-cooked meal was hidden away on the corner of Frankfurt and Old Denton? I sure didn't. It was only after playing with the Yelp app on my iPhone that I found this little diner tucked away in a shopping center close to my home. Carrollton is notorious for having very few places to eat and I often find myself driving a few miles for a bite. Looks like those days are over! Heading home after an appointment, I decided to stop for lunch. Walking in, I found a quaint little no-frills diner with your typical Southern fare - chicken fried steak, hamburgers and breakfast served all day. Having not yet had "the most important meal of the day," I opted for the French toast with eggs and sausage. The food was good though don't expect anything fancy. This is purely fuel to drive you through your day. That said, it was tasty and I finished every bite. The portions were just right and the service was very friendly. I noticed the staff was very familiar with the clientele so they clearly have repeat business. You can add me to that mix, too. I'll be back! I've lived in Carrollton for almost nine years and never gave much thought to the businesses in the Northeast corner of this intersection. I'll be making up for lost time. I live in Carrollton and I love to eat local. I've eaten at a lot of restaurants in Carrollton and was looking for a quaint place I could eat at often. What attracted me to this place was that they serve liver and onions in a small diner atmosphere. I grew up eating liver and onions and love them. I know it is an acquired taste, but they make me think of home. My mom prepared them often. I tried them here. They were a big disappointment. Even though they are a regular special here, they were not very special. I thought maybe, it was just a bad day for the restaurant. So we came back. My wife likes breakfast fare for lunch and dinner sometimes. She's had their omelets and likes them. We decided we'd try them out again and I would order something different. I ordered the fried catfish, a salad, fries, corn bread and kernel corn. The catfish tasted very fishy, like they had been a little spoiled. Fish MUST be fresh and these tasted anything but fresh. I've eaten my weight in catfish over the years, and I know what it is supposed to taste like. Their catfish was just awful. I didn't finish them. The fries tasted like the frozen crinkle cut kind, the corn obviously came out of a can and the cornbread tasted like it was reheated from a box: bland and tasteless. On top of everything else, they served tartar sauce which looked like buttermilk. It was not tartar sauce. Perhaps, it too, was getting a little old. In general, this is a small diner trying to make it in a world of large chain restaurants. The prices are reasonable, but they cut corners with cheap napkins, spoiled raw products and probably the cheapest cost ingredients. Like the famous Huey Lewis song "All you can eat for a dollar ninety nine. Aww, that old stew is the baddest in the land, But one dollar's worth was all that I could stand" I so wanted this place to be a great place to catch a quick bite for lunch or a weekend breakfast, but was severely disappointed. It reminded me of "Kitchen Nightmares" with Gordon Ramsey. "You served your customers that...." We won't be coming back any time soon. read more

Came with my hiking group for our weekly brunch. We've been all over and we'll be back to this one. We got a mushroom & spinach omelet, banana bomb pancakes, nutty professor pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and hash browns. Pancakes were great, scrambled eggs were yummy, hash browns were great if you like them soft. Hash browns could have been a little more crispy, but my group liked them. We have been going to Mom's Cafe for over 20 years. Food has always been OK, we stick with the breakfast menu and for the most part it has been ok for the $. We haven't been for a couple months and decided to go this morning. Food was OK per normal but what shocked me was the way the waitresses show up for work. They have always been very casual, jeans and Tshirt, yoga pants etc. Today was very short cut off Jean shorts which were unraveling as she walked the floor and a t-shirt that looked like it had been pulled out of the hamper. I am all for casual and look forward to casual Fridays at work, but if I wanted to see butt cheeks while eating eggs on a sunday morning, I would have chosen another venue. read more

We moved to the area about 3 years ago and didn't notice it for a while. But boy am I glad we found it! It quickly became our favorite spot to stop in for a quick bite. It's a small cafe/diner and during the week they are not very busy but the weekends are a different story. They can get super packed. The waitresses are always friendly and quick. The breakfast is great and served all day! Hence the crowd on Sunday mornings. I've tried several different items but a few of my favorites are chicken fried steak sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, the cheeseburgers are delicious & the grilled chicken salad is excellent. Oh but the Breakfast tacos with bacon are my favorite served with hash browns! The pancakes are fluffy and melt in your mouth. I know they are so bad for me but that makes them even better! For the kids my son has had the grilled cheese, chicken fingers, catfish (his fav) and he likes them all. Kids pancakes (2) come in the shape of mickey mouse and they are good size too. Also you seat yourself in case you were wondering. Thought I would note, they've made some improvements, painted the walls and added shades for the windows. They really needed those in the summer months when that sun would blaze up the place coming in from the West but hopefully now that problem will be gone. Another great place to eat at Old Denton / Frankford ... Very mom & pops style locals and very friendly and speedy servie! Orange juice is large! Decaf is a bit light tho.... Wifey ordered the Branson's Saddlebags which is pancakes with bacon and sausages inside and 2 sunnyside up eggs on top and I got the early bird combo with 2 sausage links, 2 eggs, and hash brown both came out really good and fast! Omg! Best breakfast I have had in a long time! My husband and I were staying with a friend in the area and found Mom's Cafe for breakfast. The construction in front got us confused, but we turned around and found the cute little cafe in the strip. My husband got the omelet and I got a scrambler with ham and cheese. I specifically ask for my eggs to be runny/soft, and most places overlook them. Not Mom's! They cooked it perfectly, I'm still craving them! Tried this place once and didn't have a single complaint or anything wrong. The food was delicious! The portions were a good size and the Staff was incredible! I ordered the chicken fried chicken with grilled veggies and french fries the last time AND ordered it again this time. The grilled veggies are full of flavor, the chicken fried chicken is crispy and not at all oily, and their french fries are the crinkle cut! I stopped by this place because I just so happen to be in the area and saw something interesting on the menu that caught my eye. It was scrambled sausage and eggs with cheese as one of their breakfast entrees. It came with breakfast potatoes and grilled wheat toast. Surprisingly, everything was Bland. Thank goodness I had some pepper sauce from another restaurant that went well with the breakfast potatoes. I had to doctor up them. I ate the eggs as they were so I would not use extra salt. The actual score was a two-point five. I rounded up because I thought the concept was something out of the box. We went on a Sunday we are normally regular customers and go throughout the week but today we went and they had a large group there was hardly anywhere to sit in the restaurant and we got there at 12:45 took our order around 1:30 1:45 still hadn't received our food and about 2:00 our food finally came to our table it shouldn't take over an hour to get your food Brandon I know you had a big party you had a restaurant full of people but you need to have better cook times and be better prepared for bigger parties especially after church on a Sunday and the fact that the owner was reading a review of customer I left out loud it was getting upset about it but the truth is it was honest legit review you know you were in the wrong you shouldn't be smoking and talking out loud and talking smack in front of your employees and other patrons in the restaurant can hear you so I don't think we're going to be coming back last couple times we got on the food's been s*** the biscuits have been dry some of the food's been dry and with an owner like that with a four attitude you need to realize you're the heart of the community and a lot of people have it coming to Mom's for years even before you took over as an owner do better have more pride in yourself and not be rude and obnoxious by Reading and review that upset you because it took over an hour to get food on people's table read more

This is my second time here and first time reviewing. Last time was lunch. Today is breakfast/brunch and that's what I'm reviewing. I rolled in here about 11am on a Saturday. No line waiting however all the seats are full. Good sign! I wasn't greeted promptly at all. A little disappointing for a local place. I walked up to the counter which has 3 bar stools and could be a place to sit-that is if it wasn't used as a place for the waitresses to calculate their tickets. All covered with menus, calculators and pens. I made eye contact with two waitresses and neither said a word. Not even a good morning. Second disappointment. Finally a young lady who is working the register walks over and asks if I have an order for pick up or would like to place one. I said no I would like a table for one and would be happy to sit at the bar. She said of course. Coffee and water order were promptly delivered and my order taken. No utensils given. I guess my creamer is going to stir itself. Had to request the silverware - no spoon! Ha!! I'll be more specific next time. The specials board isn't viewable to most as its hidden away over by the food pick up counter and the writing isn't very big considering the size of place. The waitresses are definitely busy. Good arrived quickly however is barely warm. Even the hash browns. My toast is white not wheat as ordered. The bacon is cooked perfectly as are the hash browns plus onions I requested. I just watched a man get up and get his own silverware lol seriously. I'll come back and give them another try and update my review however this trip was mediocre. read more

This week was my 2nd time coming here. It will be last. I came many years ago (10 years maybe?) and I never came back and I cannot remember why. This week I was reassured why I didnt return and why I will not come back. Entrance: No sign to wait to be seated or to seat yourself an no one around (well watrress adding up tickets with her back to entrance). We figured we should seat ourselves so we sat near the back after no one approached us. Waited a little logher than normal for menus and drink order. Waitress was friendly enough. While waiting on food the the guy cleaning tables of empty plates was cleaning the food and stacking them in area directly behind us outside the bathroom. Constantly banging of plates and silverware with no conern that patrons were a short distance away. This happened the entire duration while we were there. As someone would leave then he would retrieve the dishes and the banging started. Shortly after a spanish language radio station came on from the back so then we had to contend witth that noise. Our same waitress yelled at the cook staff with no concern over who could hear her (She was going to call "Charlie?" if they keep putting cinnamon in the oatmeal. Shortly after same waitress goes to bathroom and yells to waitress inside "Hurry up Im getting swamped out here" By being swamped she must have meant swamped adding up the tickets on the counter. Thats what she was doing as there we only the minimum focus on the focus on the customers seated. Did I mention only 5-6 booths were occupied? Observed new customers come in and wait 5 min to be acknlowledged while the our waitress continue to add up those tickets. 2nd waitress started addding up tickets after they were caught up with the "rush" lol. Our food came much later that it should have and it was fine, Typical diner food eggs,bacon etc neither good nor bad. Prices were in line but they arent giving it away either. Waitress never checked on us and didnt seem to care much about the other customers either. Good luck getting a refill becasae those tickets have to be added up for crying out loud. LOL It seems clear to me that this place has a steady group of patrons that keep this place in business. The owners seem comfortable with the amount of $$ coming in and they must be very lax in their standards. The priority here is for the wait staff to get those tickets counted!! :) read more

Sundays have forever been days that I eat my weight in breakfast food. Sausage, bacon, eggs, pancakes, waffles, SOS, biscuits. You name it and its likely to be on the breakfast table. On days that my family wasn't up to the Sunday challenge, Ma, Pa and I would mosey over to Mom's Cafe to enjoy an little local goodness at the family owned joint. The food is very reasonable priced and is just as good (sometimes better) than my own mom's cooking. Great place to have breakfast any time of the day! The food is wonderful and the staff is very friendly. They have daily lunch specials under $8. They have a separate kid menu with Minnie mouse or Mickey mouse pancakes and more. Kids get a coloring page and crayons to entertain them while the food comes out.
