A 3 egg omelette. Smallest I have ever seen

Smallest 3 egg omelette we have ever seen and how can you make eggs taste bad? Horrible. But worse than the miniature omelette, the grits were even worse. No taste at all. They were disgusting. Very disappointing. They did cook my bacon to order but the bacon was like a salt stick. Unfortunate- we were so happy to see a new cafe in The Colony hopefully it was just an off day

The Colony Cafe is quite possibly one of a few truly standout dining establishments in Denton County, featuring a warm and inviting environment and staffed with genuinely kind employees. Deciding upon a dish may conceivably be difficult as The Colony Cafe's highly affordable menu, although not overwhelming with clutter or redundancy, contains many potentially tantalizing dishes. Because of this dilemma, I deferred to the expertise of our waitress. She: So, what will y'all be having? Me: Hmm, I'm torn between Eggs Benedict, Migas, and Reuben Omelet. She: Those are all great choices... Me: (becoming more puzzled) Alright, if you could have something right now, what would YOU order. She: Actually, I wouldn't order any of those. I would order The Colony Combo. Me: Really?!? She: YES! It's sooooo good!!! Me: Alright, I'm convinced! Colony Combo ($5.49): 5/5 http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-colony-cafe-the-colony?select=3gkDx24Vj0y3d-glIW_cwg http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-colony-cafe-the-colony?select=1j015prjurv3dQ1rXYgLXw http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-colony-cafe-the-colony?select=DRAMuWLot0_PnfJBORK0mg http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-colony-cafe-the-colony?select=e-5x6vaUpCaMHTpJaRhcMA Frankly, I became skeptical after ordering. "What's so special about a couple eggs, a few slices of bacon, and a short stack of hot cakes?", I thought. What I can say is, The Colony Cafe flawlessly executed a simple breakfast. My compliments to the chef for preparing sunny-side up exactly as they were intended, frying bacon perfect to a bright crisp, and whipping up a batch of fluffy pancakes that, in my opinion, are the pinnacle and epitome of all pancakes...ever!!! Texas Chili Cheese Omelet ($7.29): 5/5 I nearly ordered this myself but became the immediate benefactor of Loren L's lack of stomach capacity. The Colony Cafe's hearty chili omelet is something of legends! Their perfectly balanced chili is not over the top spicy, nor too acidic or overcome with tomato flavor. Undoubtedly, one dish not to be glanced over. Coffee ($1.59): 4/5 Known for my strict critique of coffee, I was delightfully impressed by The Colony Cafe's ability to brew a solid cup of coffee that did not require sugar or milk. To attest to my approval, I actually requested my cup be refilled more than several times during the course of our breakfast. If you are a resident of Denton County, you mustn't delay a visit to The Colony Cafe. Their value minded offerings will more than satisfy and most assuredly, keep you coming back for more.

The first time I came here I had The Colony Skillet. I walked into the place for the first time at around 1:30 p.m. on a Sunday for my "breakfast". Keep in mind that this place closes at 2:30, so by then, there weren't that many people there anymore. The first thing I noticed about the couple tables that were there was that they seemed to be on very familiar terms with the staff. Good sign. Starving, didn't really know what to order. I had read that the coffee was good, so I knew I was going to try it. Coffee aside, I asked my server "I'm hungry, what's popular?" In my less manner-observing thoughts this roughly translated to "Feed me the best food you've got" I think she read my mind. "The Colony Skillet." she said. Now normally in small establishments such as this one, I'm always skeptical of food that's named after a city. After she explained everything that's in it (during which I didn't really take in half the things she said), I agreed to it. First came the coffee. The coffee was very decent. It wasn't an exotic brew filled with rich and aromatic flavors from the depth of Colombia, nor did it have the [insert all coffee descriptions] of [insert all foreign coffee producing places]. It was simply a good, solid, morning (afternoon, in my case) cup of joe. AND courtesy of my server, I never saw the bottom of my coffee mug. Keep them refills coming. Needless to say I was very well (read: excessively) caffeinated for the remaining afternoon. Then came the food. Delicious. Sausage, eggs, cheese, hash brown on English muffin, all topped off with a generous serving of gravy. I personally didn't think the combination of everything was too much. It was just enough flavor to hit the spot, and not so much that it goes over the top. The sweet spot. I just had dinner, writing this makes me want it again. I devoured it. First post, lengthy post. Thanks for reading, happy to share!

A local surprise. We were on our way to a 3 star lunch, spotted this place and decided to try it. Solid 4 star food & 5 star service. Lots of regulars were served while we ate. The food is good, service outstanding & very friendly. Give the cinnamon rolls with nuts a try... Yum!

Hopefully they were having an off day?

This business is closed. The landlord took over the property for non-payment of rent, according to the notice on the door.

Was just basic. The waiter was new so I gave him some slack but had to remind him several times of things we needed.

The service was excellent. Very friendly bunch. As per the suggestions in the reviews, we tried the banana bread which comes with strawberry compote and whipped cream. It was delicious. We also ordered the iced coffee and espresso. Our only regret was, we didn't have our kid with us. They would've enjoyed the visit too. Hope to return with them some day.

The tables are pretty close together & isn't as spacious. It's normally crowded during the weekend. When we got there we weren't sure if we had to wait to get seated or just grab a seat. Since no one acknowledged us, we just grab a seat at an empty table. After we sat down, someone came & gave us a menu. I got the egg benedict with bacon. It was unique that it came with sourdough instead of english muffin. Overall the egg benedict was alright. The sourdough gave the dish a sour taste. I didn't like the salad that it came with & some of the leaves weren't fresh. For my drink, I got the aussie iced coffee & it's nothing special. It's pretty much an affogato & tasted just like milk. I also tried the T.A.G big breaky. It wasn't as big as I would expected & it was a little overpriced for the amount you get. The sausage was very dry & overcooked, but everything else was good.

We went in on a Sunday afternoon so it was not too busy at the time. My girlfriend and I like to be seated at a "low top" because she has back issues with climbing up into higher seating. We don't mind waiting for that as inside "low tops" are limited. The hostess was very nice, as they always are. She took us to the middle of the venue to seat us and then walked away while we were waiting on our server. I stood up to walk around the table so that I could sit next to her instead of across from her. She stood up to move over and pulled out the chair next to her so she could sit back down. At that moment the new general manager walked up, and without offering any explaination, took the chair out of my girlfriend's hand and said, "We need this table for another party." He walked away and left us standing there without offering us another solution, and apology or calling the hostess over to seat us elsewhere. We were left standing there dumbfounded and looking around unsure of what to do. We started walking back toward the front of the venue as we spotted another open "low top" near there. At that same time the female hostess saw what had happened to us, and she started to walk toward us. Meanwhile, another male server - acting as host - seated some people at the new table we were about to get to with the hostess. We got mad and said, "it feels like someone is playing a game on us!" The hostess apologized as she could see we were aggitated. It was not her fault, and we do not blame her. We blame the rudeness of the general manager. We left to go eat somewhere else. This is not the first incident with this general manager, though. A few days prior, we were eating in there and had a good vantage point of one of the side kitchen entries off to the left of the bar toward the ffront half of the venue. A bus boy sloshed water all over the floor while moving wet dishes in a container back into the kitchen. He didn't have a chance to clean it up because he was buy walking back and forth doing other things. No big deal. The general manager walks up and proceeds to yell at another female server about the water who had absolutely nothing to do with the spill After she walks away, he did not take any real care to clean the spot up himself. He comes back after a minute to clean it up but not with a mop or anything. He takes two towels off the bar and mushes it around on the floor with his foot. He , then, proceeds to kick the wet towels under the bar before walking away. Talk about a safety and hygene issue. This kind of left a bad taste in our mouth. He does not treat his venue or his staff very nicely. We wantedd to get up and tell the other female server that we were sorry for her. This venue would be great if they would fire this rude and sloppy general manager. It's a shame because this used to be one of our favorite venues to go to all the time. The experience is starting to feel cheapened and sullied now.
