Terrible service and even worse food! Save yourself the heartache (and heartburn) and go somewhere else.

I live in Pahrump, and was so excited to see reviews on my favorite place to eat! Such a great place to go eat; the owners, chefs, and waitresses are very attentive to the customers. I have a few food allergies, and the first time I ordered there, the waitress, Bonnie, didn't have a problem with my order. The chef made sure my food came out right. Being originally from the south I couldn't believe my luck when friends invited us to breakfast at Mom's Diner shortly after we moved here. They serve grits with lots of butter on the side (just like Texas). And when I asked for biscuits and hash browns with gravy poured all over them, that's just what I got. So often restaurants (other than the south) are afraid to pour gravy all over and instead bring it in a little cup on the side. Ate breakfast here this am...first time at this place. Generally, while the food was tasty...the prices were not. I had hash and eggs for $8.00 and the wife had a Patty Melt w/Fries for $7.99. They charged me .50 for a little Country Gravy and the coffee was not cheap. The service was just ok as some of the servers were smiling and friendly and others were not. We probably will not be back as the food and service is not good enough to warrant the prices. Lots of other places around are just as good. read more

I was in town for a couple of days, so I asked around about where one could get a good meal in Pahrump. Everyone's first answer was Symphony -- no surprise. Everyone's second answer was Mom's Diner. My wife ordered the Cobb salad and I ordered the Blue [sic] Cheese Burger. The Cobb salad was fresh and had all the ingredients it should have had. Don't smirk -- some don't. The burger was fresh and delicious. Fries were good, too. Had the apple pie and the brownie for dessert. Each was very nice. The apple pie tasted as though it had been made with really tart apples, with just enough sugar added to balance it out. The brownie was a good size, and was wonderfully chewy. It probably would have been fine without the frosting and nuts, but it was that much better because of them. The decor seemed a bit hectic, but the colors are bright and simple, and everything seemed clean and dust-free, which must represent a lot of work for someone, given all the stuff on the walls. Given the almost uniformly grim state of dining out in Pahrump, Mom's Diner is a wonderful resource. read more

I really like this place - My friends and I do quite a bit of motorcycle riding in Death Valley and we like to stop here either for breakfast on the way in or lunch on the way out. It's so nice to have a family owned restaurant that serves good food at a really reasonable price. The owner is usually at the register when we're there and the staff does a great job. Finally a nice, clean, general restaurant that serves great food that isn't located in a smoke-filled casino. read more

Don't see what all the rave reviews were for. Just mediocre food. Had the rib eye which was more fat and krissel than meat. Mashed potatoes and gravy were cold as well as the old shriveled green beans. Husband had shrimp basket and he said the coleslaw was good, the fries and shrimp were cold.. I'm a local. My out of town family took me here for breakfast during the Thanksgiving holidays as a "treat". My daughter in law and I ordered coffee at the same time; when the waitress (Tina) came to ask if I wanted a refill I said "Yes, please...And my daughter hasn't gotten her coffee yet." She came back and SLAMMED that cup down in front of her. Later, when we had received out breakfast orders, my new grandson, who is 13 and of mixed race, very politely asked Tina the Waitress if he might have another glass of apple juice. Tina gave him a look as if to say, "How DARE you ask me for something else!"and snarled at him. My son and I saw this, fortunately for Tina the Waitress the child's mother did not. I realize it was the holidays and the place was full, but it is only about a 25 table establishment and they had four wait people working; there was no excuse for Tina the Waitress to be rude to my daughter in law and what I can only believe is RACIST towards my grandson! Aside from that, the food was mediocre at best, the décor was kitchy in the extreme, the color scheme was horrible crayon yellow and red, totally off-putting. The best I can say about it is that the food was hot when it arrived, even though the hash browns were obviously not made from fresh but frozen. The French toast was dry and tasteless, the syrup provided was corn syrup synthetic garbage and the meat used for the chicken-fried steak was full of gristle. I would not return to Mom's Diner if I were starving to death, and I certainly will be telling people to steer clear from this place. If I could give it ZERO stars, I would. NEVER AGAIN! read more

To begin, the waitress Amanda was extremely kind and welcoming to us right off the bat. Everything was very fairly priced. I ordered the mom-strosity burger and it was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. My gf ordered the chicken strips and they were divine. To top it all off, we went for the peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream...and it equally blew both of our minds. We use Yelp for everything when we go to a place we have never been. It's been a great resource for us. We were certainly not disappointed with Mom's diner. The decor was 40's era, as was the background music. Husband had the Momstrosity burger and I had the breaded pork cutlet. He said the burger was the best he has had in a long time and mine was definitely like mom use to make. There was plenty of leftovers to eat the next day. I almost didn't go there because its in a retail parking lot and off the beaten path but if you pass them up because of that your missing out on a good home style cooked meal. It has a diner feel and décor to it and the owner is at the register and young employees working the tables. My son and I like to take a ride from Vegas to Mom's on occasion (my parents as well), and LOVE it. Nothing fancy, but always hot and tasty. The staff are super nice. And then there's the pie. OK, I like pie. Not love, but like. Pies at Mom's are worth the drive for me. The cream pies (coconut is my fave!!) are divine! The whipped cream is REAL, not that is-it-or-isn't-it stuff you get from other places. The apple pies are perfection. I normally leave a lot of the crust, but with Mom's apple pie I practically lick the plate. Yum!! If you want a tasty meal like Mom would make, this is the place to go. read more

Recently my mom and two sisters and I were in Pahrump buying fireworks. We wanted a nice diner to grab a sandwich before our trip back to Vegas. Phantom Fireworks referred us to Mom's where they said "everything is homemade". Upon arriving an amazing serve named Nicholas greeted us. He was young, handsome and almost too good to be true with his attitude and smile. He shared he had moved back to Pahrump to help his sick mom (no relation to Mom's). His attentiveness waiting on us was beyond incredible. I have been to 5 star michelin restaurants where the service could not compare. We ordered several sandwiches off the menu and unfortunately were too full to try the homemade pies which Mom apparently brings in daily. From all other reviews the pies would have been delicious. If you are in Pahrump and want to get a satisfying meal with great service, this is where I would go. It's off the beaten track so you may have to ask a local to guide you. Well worth it! If you have a chance to have Nicholas as your serve your get a double bonus. read more

Mom's is great, but let's not pretend it is anything other than a diner. The food is generally always pretty good, but not super-fancy. The charm here is in the authenticity of the experience. Plenty of antiques and decorative items to look at while you are waiting for your food. Old farm tools, tins of Charles Chips, Campfire marshmellows and the like. Lots of those catchy tin signs with phrases like "Children left unattended will be given Espresso and a free Kitten." We were regulars for years, coming in pretty much every other weekend at least. The last and worst experience I had here was not entirely the fault of the establishment, but a guy came in and sat down next to us who reeked so bad we could not stomach our meals. It probably wouldn't have been so bad if we had been seated at a booth, but we were seated at tables in the center floor, which are really jam-packed in and very close together. This meant the stinky dude was sitting only inches away. We got up, paid and left without touching our food and have not been back since. Again, this is not something I can really complain about or hold against the owners. Really, the food is fine and if you go when it is not so busy and don't have stinky-poo dining neighbors, you'll be alright. For us, it sort of ruined the charm and reminded us that we need to eat at places where stinky bums who haven't showered in a year are less likely to sit down next to us. At the very least if the dining room had been larger or the tables not so close together or the place not so busy to where there were no other tables for us to move to... it might have turned out okay. But that smell still haunts us and every time we think about going back to Mom's, we don't recall the satisfying meals or good times we had there over the years, we only remember that smell... read more

Only 1 star for today. Usually 5 stars. Every other time we were there the food has been great and the waitresses are wonderful. They usually have the menus to you the second you sit down even when the place is packed and are very friendly. It's a week day between the breakfast and lunch crowd and when we went in the place it was fairly empty for a change. Had to wait for the menu. We were in a hurry so I didn't send back my COLD, HARD waffle, hard as a rock butter and cold syrup. I just ate what I could. They other 3 people at the table were ok with their food. When the food was brought to the table the waitress said she'd bring another straw for my grandsons drink when she brought him his meal. She never brought the straw, and never came around with coffee refills either. My husband had to go get his own. When he went to the register he mentioned the lousy service and was just ignored. I hope the waitress got the hint from the small tip he left and he left more than I would have. We usually leave them at least 20 per cent because they are so good. We've had to be out of town for a month on a family emergency and our experience is totally different than any we've ever had there before. I don't know that I will go back any time soon. read more
