Obviously my driving made a mess of the dinner. Large portions!

Call for your take out order! Super fast, soul food! Loved the fried chicken. The mac and cheese was great and the black eyes peas were awesome!

Stopped in the other day, about 30 mins before closing time, and went for the fried pork chop w/ mac & cheese, and dressing...plus gravy. Pros: Friendly service, SUPER cheesy Mac & cheese! Cons: The chop was fried crispy, but lacked seasoning. My gravy was lukewarm, even though it was the last thing put in the container, and I ate at Mom's instead of taking it home. Oh...and the price for 1 chop, 2 sides, and a piece of cornbread (no drink) was nearly $11...disappointing. Met one of the owners, and she made me feel extremely welcome, along with the friendly servers. And, as I said, the Mac & Cheese was damn good...but everything else fell kind of short. I'll be back to try their AYCE breakfast, to see if they can redeem themselves...

10/10 customer service. The gentleman who helped me was extremely polite and friendly and made an overall great impression. The staff provides a warm atmosphere. Friendlier than Jadens or sweetie pies. As with most, taste and customer service go a long way with me. 10/10 cleanliness. 8.9/10 taste. I think with soul food most people have a preference or a particular way they like things to taste. Mama's does a great job of producing aesthetically pleasing food that tastes great. Nothing you probably have never had before. But what they do, they do well. 8/10 price. 10.20 for a plate. 3.00 for cobbler dessert. Fairly reasonable for soul food fast. Great portions for the price. Will I be back? DEFINITELY. Great lunch spot.

My Mom had the very tender and delicious baked pork chop with gravy and dressing, mac&cheese and green beans. The line is long after church on Sundays, but they keep it moving, there's always somebody to converse with in line, and it's worth the wait! Carol Sue

The food is definitely hit-n-miss…read more The fried chicken, greens and mac-n-cheese is always a solid choice, haven't missed yet. We love the seasoning and skin on the fried chicken, it's perfect!!! The chicken is cooked well, tender and moist but yet still fried hard which we love to ensure the chicken is done. A huge disappointment was the beef ribs and rice pilaf, both lacking seasoning and substantial flavor. Yes, the beef ribs are fall of the bone but they are tasteless and over-priced for the quality. The corn bread is good. Another disappointing dish is the smothered pork chops. The porkchops do not stand up to the massive amount of gravy they are sitting in. It renders the porkchop lifeless and soggy and the gravy isn't seasoned to add insult to injury. The turn over is good, so it ensures the food is coming out hot-n-fresh, the staff do a good job at keeping the trays filled. It's worth a try to check out soul food in the STL

I really really wanted to like this place, but I just can't. I'm not going to blaspheme against…read moresoul food by calling that stuff they were serving anything close to soul food. I also hadn't realized it was a buffet style restaurant (when I bought a certificate for the place on restaurant.com, they had a whole menu to order from. Imagine my surprise when we got there to this lunch lady cafeteria looking place. They need to update their info on restaurant.com so people will know what to expect. The food was COLD, had no flavor, what they called dressing was stove top stuffing, the macaroni was dry as hell with burned cheese on top. There was a tray that had what looked like tiny cubes of potato floating in some greenish water. The lady told me it was steamed broccoli. No ma'am, that's the part of the broccoli we usually throw away, where's the part that looks like a tree? Honest to goodness, that was THE worst spaghetti I've ever eaten. Not only did it taste TERRIBLE, it had the mouth feel of applesauce, super mushy. You could tell it was not only really cheap pasta, but they obviously boiled it for an hour and 45 minutes. The jiffy'ish corn muffin was so dry it just crumbled. And the sweet potato...notice I didn't say candied...was just a chunk of boiled sweet potato, no seasoning, no syrupy sauce, no butter. Our plates were still almost just as full when we left as they were when they served it to us. There was a sign stating only one dessert per customer. The guy that served us our food at the buffet kept hovering around us until my friend said she couldn't take it anymore. So we asked if we could just have our dessert to go, they told us there would be an upcharge for takeout. I will admit, the fried fish was EXACTLY the way I like it, not still soft and/or wet, but not cooked to death, a nice light hard fry. And the weird murky colored tea was flavorful, again, a real southern soul food cook would NEVER serve powdered tea mix, but it was pleasant tasting. But $5 for a glass of tea? The fact that the place was totally empty on a Friday night at 7pm should have alerted us that folks ain't busting down doors to eat here. The decor was pretty nice, the people were very sweet, but that cooking...smh. I've never gone to dinner with a friend and been in and out of a restaurant so fast. I think we spent a total of 20 minutes there. My friend paid, but later told me the bill was $60. That was $52 more than what it was worth.

This was my first time going to this restaurant and I've been wanting to try for about a year now…read more When I arrived the food smell good and the place looked clean and the staff was very friendly. We looked over the menu and we ended up ordering fried catfish, fried Green tomatoes, and fried pork chops. I also got a side order of mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy and fried okra. The fried green tomatoes came out and I felt like they were overcooked very mushy inside. The outer banner was very crunchy and cooked well the inside didn't really have much taste. The menu said they would serve it with a ranch dressing but it ended up being some other type of reddish sweet and sour type creamy dressing. It was ok. The pork chops we're dry and the meat tasted old. I think they need to change their meat supplier. The mashed potatoes taste it like I had a ton of garlic powder. In my opinion a restaurant should never use garlic powder but instead use fresh garlic in their dishes. It's really easy just to throw cloves of garlic in the potatoes as you're boiling them. Or roast them. I was burping up garlic for several hours after I left. You can often judge a soul food restaurant by their mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was baked but the cheese sauce tasted like nacho cheese sauce. Or some type of ready-made cheese sauce. And they just mixed up the cheese sauce with some elbow pasta, threw some American cheese on top and threw it in the oven. It was not the worst mac and cheese I ever had but it was definitely not good. The restaurant was very clean and I like their decor. Ray came out talking to customers and checking on their satisfaction. He was nice and I didn't have the heart to give him bad news. But I really believe unless they fix their recipes and show more imagination that they're not going to make it. Lighten up on the salt. The food was too salty. I wanted to try their sweet potato pie but after me and disappointed by all the other dishes I changed my mind. I probably won't be going back. 65 bucks for dinner for two.
