The sausage was great as well, but a tad bit overcooked for my taste. As I mentioned earlier, the pancakes are the best I've ever had and were cooked just right. The service was a bit slow until it came time to pay the bill. Maybe they don't have enough tables or short staffed or covid or just extra busy at the time we went there. Either way, they were slow. If the food was exceptional, perhaps I would care if they were slow. But.... The hash brown were, perhaps slightly undercooked and the scramnled eggs has a flavor that was off just a little bit. I ate most of the eggs. Now the bacon was delicious and probably the best part of the dining experience. By the way, don't sir at the little table at the entrance. One chair is jammed close to the table behind it and the other chair is in the busy doorway. They didn't tell us there are tables outside on both sides of the building. 9h well, we will try another place for breakfast next time we feel adventurous. read more

Salmon eggs Benedict. Food was good. Customer service was dry. It's a nice homey looking spot in downtown vista. The environment is weird. The other guest stare you down, at least to me and my family. It could be that our social demographic is different than majority of the people there. To me we felt uncomfortable to have judgmental eyes on us from other guest eating there. The stares and facial expression, were pretty obvious. It could be that we are different from them, plus we are more comfortable speaking our native language. Because of that the environment does not feel inclusive to all, even though the staff does deliver and do their part. If you think it's silly or never experienced something like this good for you. I have been going to this place for a few months now. It is normally pretty busy on the weekends but that is to be expected of a breakfast place so I have no qualms. I normally am served by a waitress, Morgan, who is extremely pleasant to talk to and always has a smile on her face. This used to be one of our faves back when it was Allen's Alley. We never mind the wait because the food is delicious but the service has really gone downhill. The servers are very inattentive. We waited an ho it for our food and and had to request water twice and boxes twice and then just went in and h out the ourselves. We tried to consider the fact that they are busy and may be understaffed but we could see our waitress sitting and rolling piles upon piles of silverware instead of helping us. We also had a party of 6 and now that is considered a large party and they charge 18% tip with the bill. They had 4 out door tables and so they allowed our dog, in fact, they greeted him and brought him some water. Leslie was a delightful server, paid us the perfect amount of attention. Mom's kitchen doesn't have a flashy menu or $10 coffees instead they serve great food at a great price with ok coffee! And you know what, I'm ok with ok coffee when I'm not paying $10. The breakfast portions are large and everything is delicious. Sure, you have the guy in corner reading the actual news paper but hey this is one of those where everybody knows your name kind of places. Still the same ole Allan's Alley Way from back in the day!!! They've remodeled the inside and it's so cute and quaint. Best of all It's the same menu and same staff. Best biscuits and gravy you'll find in California. Chicken fried steak was phenomenal. With all the changes happening in VIsta It's so refreshing to come back after being gone a while and find your favorite places intact and thriving. My honest review is 3 & 1/2 stars but unfortunately Yelp doesn't allow that. And I don't feel 3 stars is accurate, so here goes. First the negative: Mom's kitchen is a tiny place. So it is super noisy even when its not crowded with people. Not sure if its the acoustics but even when the waitress was moving chairs in & out to clean up, the scraping on the floor was so loud! Also, when there are other patrons, their conversations carry through. Almost like they are sitting right next to you. The 2 of us were sitting at the back, the other patrons were sitting at the table in the front. I guess my point is if you want somewhere a bit less noisy or muffled this isn't it. The prices are competitive, neither cheap nor expensive. My hubby loves sausage & gravy. Not only has Mom's kitchen been making their own recipe for years & years, they are also super generous with the amount of gravy too. We've been here twice for breakfast. Both times I ordered the sausage & biscuit sliders. I'm a big eater & I ended up taking one of the sliders home for breakfast or lunch the next day. So delicious & filling. Hubby got an omelet both times with biscuits and gravy and was super happy. Last time we were there, there was construction going on to update their outside patio which would be a great option for this little hole in the wall. Honest rating: 3 & 1/2 stars for delicious food that we've tried minus 1 & 1/2 stars for noise & cramped layout making conversation difficult We will go again at after the patio is completed. At first we waited around for a while to be seated to no success we decided to place an order to go and boy was the service over the phone a major red flag which I'm not going to get into. Cut to the review on the food and the lack of ingredients we got the eggs Benedict & buttermilk pancakes, no chives or paprika, the avocado I asked for to sub out the ham I had to drive back to get was clearly missing on the first order. No butter on pancakes. We get there and pay for our order as I'm about to leave I realized there are no utensils provided and then they tell me they're out of utensils, we didn't plan on going home so this was an issue. I called back to ask for Chives and paprika my order was missing + the avocado since it was clearly plain hollandaise sauce & egg. Only to get the worst attitude about it and how "I got what I payed for??" I could literally hear the girls eye roll trough the phone when she said they were out of chives although she said she could put paprika on the side and that they didn't charge me for the avocado so if I want to I can come back for that, to which I did. They forgot the paprika. again.The avocado speaks for itself.. like?? WTF. My boyfriend was beyond annoyed at this point so save yourself the hassle if you're going to order over the phone or come here in general prepare for a side of attitude and a few missing ingredients. read more
