I have been two times now for breakfast. Both times service was good. The food though is lackluster. I get pretty basic breakfast food: waffle and eggs. The waffle was cold, the syrup was cold. This is my boyfriends favorite place in vista. He grew up around here and said it used to be called Alan's Alley. His favorite is the biscuits and gravy but today I ordered the Florentine omelette and he plans to order it next time. All the ladies who work here are lovely. They loved having my little corgi mix on the patio. I even ordered a piece of bacon as a side for her. The ladies kept coming to refill coffee and said they wanted to see my dog haha. We love Moms! They definitely have better service some days then others, but they are so nice and the food is delicious so I think it's worth it. My husband and I eat here almost every weekend for breakfast. We love the cinnamon roll pancakes and the breakfast sliders. They have the best scrambled egg whites (so much butter!) and we love the biscuits. Oh, and the home fries --extra crispy. I've only had breakfast, but my dad got their burger and said it was fantastic. It certainly looked great. All in all, come by, put your name on the whiteboard, and relax. Completely adequate. I violated a rule and ordered Eggs Benedict on a Monday morning when the place was pretty empty. The rule is there because you only want to order hollandaise sauce in a place that makes it every day. I'm not sure what I got - it was a thick mess - my guess it came out of the refrigerator and was a day or more old. I've lived in Vista for a few years and had never tried Moms. This rating is based on service and meal preparation. We ordered 2 meals, one was prepared as ordered. Second was a veggie omelet with fruit and hash browns. The server was asked what was the other option besides toast and she said fruit. So when she brought the meal and it was the omelet, toast and cottage cheese she should have known, right? NO! So we sent it back and said it was supposed to be hash browns and fruit nit toast and cottage cheese. So a few minutes later the meal arrives, omelet, fruit and toast. Really!!! My wife and I had a delicious breakfast and overall, wonderful experience at Mom's Kitchen. The staff was so friendly, courteous, and eager to serve, and we loved the old school diner feel to the whole place. One waitress told us that it's the oldest restaurant in downtown Vista, dating back to the 1940s. The menu has something for everyone. My wife had the County Benedict, which was hearty and delicious. I had the breakfast sliders, which were surprisingly filling, and you can't go wrong with a side of sausage gravy for dipping. You can tell all of the food we had was homemade. This was our first time at Mom's Kitchen, but we will be regular customers, and encourage all of friends and neighbors to take in this Vista staple. read more

It really is a small place, but it's also kind of homey! We've been there several times and the food has been great every time. We've had both friendly, welcoming service and, once, rushed not-so-friendly service. I'm a stickler when it comes to service. I treat people warmly and respectfully, and I'm a great tipper, so I do expect a smile and a check-back after the food arrives to make sure everything is ok. I think maybe because it's so small there's an extra burden on the servers, maybe? Or they're human and our server was having a bad day. We've both done take-out from and eaten at Mom's Kitchen as well as explored the menu. We've really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. My current favorite is the Chilaquiles but I also really like their scrambles. My kids love the french toast and pancakes. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The take-out food sometimes needs to be reheated when we get home or just simply toasted a little longer but that's not a big deal if you have a toaster oven and/or microwave. I don't think that is unexpected as takeout food will cool off on the trip back and may get a little moist from condensation in the styrofoam containers. But just be aware that your toast may need a minute in the toaster and your hashbrowns or home fries may need to be reheated. Eating at the restaurant doesn't have the same issues as take-out, the food is hot and tasty. Their ranchero sauce could be a little spicier but we like spicy food so it might just be a personal taste. read more

When you walk into this grub spot - you are transported to a small little mom & pop diner somewhere not here...California. The place is clean. The server, Amanda, was super nice and was excited to know we had "stumbled" on to it. It is a bit of a challenge to see from Vista Way so you have to watch for it! They are known for their Country Fried Steak so that's what I ordered. It was crispy, crunchy and tasty!! As she placed our order she told the cook, "it's their first time here - so make it with love!" Which is something you hear in other places...not here. The fact that they serve water in colorful mason jars only add to the ambience. The food was tasty!! The air conditioning was excellent - trust me you need it when you're in Vista. We used to enjoy this restaurant when it was Allen's Alley. Their sausage gravy and biscuits was one of our favorites and it was usually packed. We came back a few times after it became Mom's Kitchen and were progressively disappointed. Today we tried it again hoping things had improved but the omletes tasted like a dirty grill and the sausage patty was nothing like it used to be. Been coming here for years its hands down my husband's and my favorite restaurant. They just had a name change but the menu and staff is all the same. Love the new decor of the place as well.
