There are so many Mexican restaurants in Chicago's northwest neighborhoods and nearby northwestern suburbs that this isn't a place I"ll probably be at soon. I was here with a small group, a local book club that I attended. There were six of us. The server said they couldn't do separate checks because it was too busy, though there were only about another five or six tables of folks here (if that). My food was just ok, as was the Paloma I ordered--thankful that it was during happy hour, at least, because I only took a couple sips of the Paloma before I decided I couldn't drink it even if I had paid for it. The service wasn't great throughout--we didn't get visited much and had to ask for more salsa and whatnot rather than being asked if we wanted more. But the worst part was when we were ready to wrap up. It took at least 40 minutes for us to get our check and get settled. I had been thinking I probably wouldn't make it to another meeting because I hadn't expected to be gone for a couple hours, but others mentioned they'd made plans after the book club and specifically mentioned that they usually weren't that long (it was my first time meeting with the club). We paid with cash and card, and made note of what was what, but somehow the guy got it totally messed up and we waited 15 minutes for them to cash us out after he took our cards. Had they just given us individual tickets from the start they'd have been done in a fraction of the time, so that was super frustrating. As I said, the food was just ok and with many other places around (at least a couple at which I've eaten and were pretty good) I don't need to come back unless for some reason the book club makes its way back here again. We really enjoyed this meal. The food here is authentic mexican. The guacamole was so good. They are supper attentive, immediately bringing over chips and salsa when I arrived. The chicken tinga is delicious. They have a good cocktail menu. The portions are a decent size and overall it was good value for money. The staff were great; they kept water topped up throughout. Cute local spot. Food was delicious came out hot and my server even let me sample a sauce before I ordered. We got one appetizer of Queso and a few drinks. I got the enchiladas with mole. The mole sauce was great. Husband ordered a stuffed pepper dish where he wiped the plate clean. Took a dessert to go and that was great as well. We will be back! read more

I love this place! We started going to this place in 2019 and fell in love. Sadly when COVID hit the taste and service took a huge hit. Food tasted frozen and once when we called for a pickup at 5PM we were told they were too busy to take pickup orders and were hung up on. We were devastated! We tried it again recently and can say it is back to greatness! Their unique salsa I would like bottled, I crave it! Their meats are so tender! Mom's Old Recipe Mexican restaurant has a spacious dining area. While you wait for your food, they give you complimentary chips along with this a orange sauce that is super hot. Along with it is a nice authentic touch of pickled carrots and cauliflower. Steak tacos were good, chicken tacos were flavorful... fish taco was weird, with the sauce and coleslaw in it. The one good thing about the tacos was that the corn tortillas hard and soft and moist, which is not usual for corn tortillas The tequila shrimp taco consisted of 3 shrimps, for $22. The rice that came with it was soft and sticky which I like, and the roasted vegetables that came with it was OK. The shrimp was bathed in butter and cilantro, it was flavorful, but a little bit too pricey for me BATHROOM REVIEW: Bathroom was in the back. You go past giant basket of potatoes and onions. In the back are two bathrooms one for men's and women's. The men's was not great. It had a lot of expose piping, but a decently clean toilet. Other than that the vibes of the hall bathroom was eh. Wow!!! Mom's Old Recipe aka the mole recipe is incredible! I had it with the enchilada trio! It was out of this world! So good! I was so happy with my meal! Came with a bunch of friends for a dinner and night out. We had a great dinner! We did the fried queso, ceviche, guacamole, and shrimp cocktail appetizer. Everyone loved it. If my mom had old recipes like this I may have never left home. This is one of the best Mexican restaurants around the area. My wife is a bit of a taco snob but can't get enough of Moms tacos. I usually go for the enchiladas de mole or the tampiquena (steak and enchiladas combo). Staff is attentive and super friendly. Margaritas are good from what my wife tells me (I am a club soda and lime guy). Live music sometimes finds its way into the place and awesome queso fundito is always a hit to start the night. 1. We love it here because they have a great happy hour! 2. The staff is so attentive! Love when a waiter walks around just to make sure all the food has come out correctly and to ask if you need anything! 3. I really wanted a Mojito (delish) and was not in mood really for tacos. My husband wanted them. So in all other places I will order a steak fajita because it's safe. However, this is first time I've ordered their fajita and it was delish! It will become my usual. 4. Very nice service, very attentive staff. The ambiance is nice. Friend recommend it several times and I thought to give it a try. Food was decent, only recommendation I would really like to give is that you use actual corn TORTILLA chips. Your salsa is delicious but, your chips...? Either cut up your own tortillas and make your own chips or get El Milagro because they fall apart and your nachos get all soggy and it's like I end up eating chilaquiles by the time you're halfway through. I can't say enough good things about this place. The service, ambiance, live music, food, drinks... everything was outstanding. The salsa served with the complementary chips was the probably the best I've ever had. The mole sauce that drenched my enchiladas was hands sudden the best I've had. First time visiting based on local Facebook posts. First off the woman who welcomed me was fantastic. She came to check on me multiple times. I went to the bar to order to go. The modelo and chips were fantastic. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the mild salsa tasted like tomato soup. I ordered the trio of enchiladas and tacos. The green verde and chicken enchiladas was amazing. The mole was good but personally not a mole fan. The chicken and steak tacos were great. The guac I ordered needed more salt and a little heat. My husband said the hot salsa was fantastic. Needless to say it was gone!! Overall I will for sure come back. As a prior server and bartender it seemed like the staff were getting annoyed with each other. I noticed and think they should try to work on lifting each other up and supporting one another. I checked the reviews before choosing this spot and I am so glad I did. I wanted to take my mom to a different place, for her birthday and we enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and the service. Oscar was our server and he went above and beyond to make my mom's birthday feel special. There was social distancing in place. You can eat outside or inside (we chose indoor). We were greeted at the door. You can feel the integrity and pride they take. I recommend this place to people who love Mexican food. One tiny helping of sour cream for two soups. My wife's enchiladas - NO cheese at all My Taco salad - tiny - meat was dry and over cooked - complete lack of substance.
