Visiting from California, I assume the Mexican food in the Chicago area would be a bit different to what I am accustomed. Los Azares Mexican Grill is a casual semi-fast food restaurant with this location is within a strip mall. They have several locations in the Chicago area so the food should speak for itself. I am generally not a big Mexican food eater, but occasionally I do love either a Tostada salad or a chicken quesadilla. The tostada salad that I like are the salads that are served in a huge tortilla shell with lots of pico de gallo or creamy cilantro dressing. That wasn't what they serve here so I opted for my second favorite, their large quesadilla with grilled chicken. The quesadilla is pretty large, probably a 12" flour tortilla, so portion size was good. The quesadilla was easily shareable or enough for the next day of leftovers. It was filled with ample amount of chicken and the right amount of cheese. The only and biggest issue that I have was the quesadilla was served with only sour cream on the side. No pico de gallo or guacamole as these fixins' cost extra. I ordered the guacamole which was about $8. The pico de gallo was about $5 which I declined. It was bad enough that the quesadilla did not come with either. The guacamole was good but needed salt and was overpriced. The quesadilla was reasonably priced, but when you add either pico de gallo or guacamole, this appetizer lunch came to about $20 plus a drink. Service was good and very friendly. They do offer complimentary chips with maroon red and/or green salsa. The salsa tasted like the bottled type of salsa that you would find on the supermarket shelf. The salsas, though, tend to be more on the hot and spicy side. Overall, Los Azares is a good quick and casual Mexican restaurant in the Chicago area. I don't think, though, that it rises up to California's "gold" standards for Mexican food. read more

Wow. I went in a little bit cocky thinking because I come from Phoenix, Arizona that we have superior Mexican food because of our proximity! Lol I was wrong. This restaurant, and family is amazing. The food is so good. The salsa... Buyer beware... Is hot! This is coming from a man who grew up on Indonesian food. Super cute location, looks like 90% of other small Mexican restaurants and is comfortable, and in contrast actually pretty quiet. The owners are extremely friendly, and the staff seems very professional and nice as well. I can tell this place has a pretty loyal following. I'm not complaining about price... I had a meal suitable for three people, and sleep will come fast when I hit my airplane flying back to Phoenix in a few hours. I had way too much, and I'm not mad about it! If you're in the area, go! I can see the parking might be a little bit tight because it's in a small strip mall, but you can figure it out... Just go! Warning: very poor customer service. I'm new to the neighborhood and accidentally ordered to the wrong location. I called to cancel less than 5 minutes later, but my order was still canceled with no effort to help or resolve the situation. The manager was extremely rude and dismissive when I spoke with him. There was no professionalism, no understanding, and no respect for the customer. Mistakes happen, but the way this was handled was completely unacceptable. I would not recommend this restaurant. This place has good employees, and they all have excellent customer service skills. However, the food is overpriced. About 3.75 for one taco is insane, but it does have a decent amount of meat on it to sorta justify the price. I ordered based on a 4.4 out of 5 star review on google. I don't know who's giving 5 star reviews but this place does not deserve 5 stars. The carne asada is bad. $5.95 for one taco on one of those tiny tortillas with literally 20 tiny pieces of meat on each one. Its like they count the pieces for each taco and gordita. The gordita had little pieces of meat spread out, literally, with space between each piece of carne asada. The meat tasted old and chewy and fatty. I will never go again. I thought they were the same owners as Los Azares on 7148 N Harlem. That place is so much better. Avoid this place (the Nagle location). I will not be going back to this one. Oh and they charge extra for onion and cilantro. What is that all about???? For that extra charge you would think they would load it up with onion and cilantro, Check out the pic. Like some the reviewers mentioned, it took us a while to get some food in this new place. We had steak burritos to go and they were delicious. This is not your typical steak burritos, albeit may look the same like all the other restaurant, but they do not. The steak was tender and juicy and the best parts were 1) not salty 2) not so overcooked and gummy. My husband said after finishing his burrito was that the burrito was tasty and just enough. He did not feel that he ate too much nor it was not enough. JUST RIGHT, is all it summed up to. Go check it out yourselves if you have a craving for steak burritos. Chilaquiles are probably one of my absolute favorite foods. The green chilaquiles al pastor at Los Azares on Nagle are amongst the best I've ever had. The sweet pineapple mixed with the spice of the sauce, tender pork and the richness of the egg. 10/10, highly recommend!! Also the staff is incredibly friendly! Great new (in the last 2yrs) place. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about their menu, very helpful when asking about ingredients due to allergies. This is our third time there and is def a place worth going to. They have specials for every day of the week, multiple meat options, canned and bottled soda (no fountain) and their horchata, lemonade and jamica (sorry about the spelling) are fresh on tap! Solid place for Mexican food and some amazing treats such as house made tamales, salsas and (sometimes) pickled carrots. The chili rellenos and the refried beans are both excellent. Took off two stars and added one back because of persistent miscommunication between the cashiers and the line cooks. "Hold the rice" is acknowledged by the latter and often missed by the former. So if you have *any* special request, best to reconfirm it at the pickup window, Which is why I added a star back on: we go there a lot and while our orders are a bit off more than we'd like, they always make it right and are very nice about it. When we got home with a takeout order and found a double order of rice, but no beans (instead of no rice) they sent someone to our house with a large order of piping hot beans. read more

Wow. A great Mexican restaurant right near me. Took me a little time to try them and I'm glad I did. Note. They aren't doing online orders because they are still tweaking the prices. Ordered 3 steak 3 ground beef and 1 Al Pastor tacos. The steak was outstanding. Very well seasoned and pretty good portions. The ground beef was very good. Trying to find a place to dethrone Taqueria Traspasada for best ground beef. This though was in my top 5. The Al Pastor was thicker cut pork then some places but very good. My mom had their surf and turf which was 5 big shrimp and a 5oz steak with refried beans and rice. She enjoyed it. The chips and salsa was very good. Had to push the salsa out of the way to do this review. The salsa was free. The guacamole looks great. We haven't had that yet so can't give you an opinion on that. Great service.
