This place was a miss for me. We came on a weekday afternoon when it wasn't even busy, and somehow the sauce bar looked like it had survived a natural disaster. A little more frequent cleaning would go a long way. The whole setup is fully automated--you order from a tablet, get automatically charged for sauces and random apps you may not even want, and then piece together your meal from there. Our "extras" included old marinated mussels, chicken feet, and some sad-looking jelly desserts. The broth was watered down, portions were small, and lunch for two somehow came out to almost $100 with tip and no drinks. For that price, I shouldn't be leaving hungry and annoyed. I stopped by Xifu Hotpot on a cold weekday evening, and it was honestly the perfect kind of night for hot pot. The restaurant was small and felt cozy and fitting for the weather. Ordering was easy, you scan a QR code and place your order directly from your phone. It's AYCE hot pot, though there are some items and specialty broths that come with an additional charge. Only a few broths are included in the base price, and certain sides also cost extra, which slightly defeats the purpose of "all-you-can-eat." Just something to be aware of when ordering. There's a small self-serve salad and sauce bar, and the night we visited they also had a beef out, which was a nice touch. A little taste before our main dishes came out For broths, we ordered the Tom Yum, a bone broth, and one of the spicy broths (the first one listed on the menu) for an additional charge. The broths were incredibly flavorful when they first came out. But, after a few refills, they definitely lost some depth. The Tom Yum in particular was soo good. I dont think I've tasted a better Tom Yum at a hot pot place before - only thing is it had lime rinds in it presumably to keep the tangy flavor that Tom Yum typically has but over time the broth turned slightly bitter from the rind. Pro tip: if you order Tom Yum, scoop the lime out early to avoid that bitterness. The meat quality was excellent -- tender, fresh, and really the highlight of the meal. No complaints there at all. Service, was quite slow for a weekday. There appeared to be only one server managing about four tables, including ours. We went through two to three rounds of meat before any of our sides arrived. I drive past this hot pot location so many times and always wanted to try it. My boyfriend and I decided to try on a Friday night. There was a lot of open seating so we sat down pretty immediately. We decided to get the two half broth: Cantonese bone broth and mushroom broth. Both broths were very good and fragrant. I enjoyed drinking it. We were given a QR code to scan and order. I was pretty disappointed that there weren't many options to pick from and out of the ones that were on the menu, a lot of them were grayed out. The prices seemed fair initially until the food arrived. The proportions were incredibly little. The angus beef only had 5 slices (though big, you can eat it in one bite). While nothing tasted bad, the value and options made the experience very underwhelming for a whopping $75 for two people. They charge almost $20 for the broth too which I think is unreasonable. The spicy beef tallow broth we got was mild and wasn't too spicy! All the broths could use a bit more flavor, but otherwise prepared well. The meat quality here is good, but you have to make sure not to dump all the meat in at once. The meat here can't be cooked long or it gets chewy. Saw this restaurant on TikTok and decided to try it out. It is a Chinese a la cart hot pot restaurant. Upon entering, it is very clean and modern inside. They had a really clean sauce bar with a good selection of side dishes. Those dishes include sesame balls, oranges, mussels, shrimp chips, chicken feet, and many more. Everything is ordered through a QR code on the table. All the side toppings we had like the quail eggs, tofu balls, corn, cabbages, etc came with A LOT. they were very generous with their portions. The meats were not too thinly sliced, it had some width to it. Honestly, the quality of meats was delicious. Our personal favorite was the beef tongue. We got a split soup base with the beef tallow at mild and the tomato soup base. Since this is a Chinese hot pot style, their mild was a numbing sensation still. We came here Tuesday night for their weekday meal for two. The restaurant wasn't busy, and the waiters were very efficient. Our food came very quickly. They have a smaller snack bar compared to some other hotpot places. For hotpot we tried the house special beef tallow and Chinese herbal soup base. Neither were impressive nor fragrant. I was surprised that even the Chinese herbal soup didn't have the right herbal flavor in it. The meal included three beef dishes that were decent, duck blood that tasted fresh, pork liver which was an odd choice for hotpot, braised chicken feet, fried tofu skin, kelp, and cabbage. The dessert was the cutest ever and tastes good too. Although the taste didn't stand out among the blooming hotpot scene, the final price for two was $78, which was pretty good value given the Bay Area baseline. They offer some exotic meats that are not common in other shops like black tripe, pig brains, kidney, etc. the plate size is bigger than most places. Soup bases are delicious. We ordered spicy beef tallow and pork bone broth this time. Beef tallow is a looooot of tallow. I usually like spicy food but I gotta say the bone broth really impresses me this time. Beef throat was sliced thin enough & quantity wad much more than i expected for the price. Pork kidney were sliced thin and large and makes hotpot cooking simple. And result is perfectly tender! Btw, soups we picked 2 half pots: 1. herbs 2. pork stomach/chicken. Both were excellent. Hand made shrimp paste is a must order. Tender & crunchy after cooking. Pork meatballs are ok. The spicy beef tallow had a lot of oil and peppers. It was too spicy for us too. They don't kid around with their spice. We scooped all the spices out and it was still spicy. The beef short rib and ribeye were good. More tender than the lamb shoulder. It was dry and tougher. The shrimp paste was really good. Crown daisy, enoki, and taro were fresh. Everything was good quality. The staff was attentive and kept clearing our table. Our waitress asked if we wanted more broth when she saw that we scooped out the spices and when our broth is low. Now my bag reeks of seafood, and my things are soaked. Completely unacceptable behavior and shockingly poor service. The staff clearly lack training and professionalism.
