This place has been on my list to try for awhile, so I finally tried it out for lunch after a hike. After seeing pics I wanted to try the crack chicken bowl, but it's no longer in the menu. Fortunately there was a gentleman who'd been there often and gave me a couple suggestions. I got the salmon sandwich and it was SOO good! Juicy and crunchy and flavorful. This cute little shop has some great Korean street foods and very friendly service. This is not a dine in location as there is no indoor seating. You'll order at the front kiosk and wait for your order to be made. Everything is made to order and it took about 10 minutes on a Saturday during lunch hour. We tried their combo Isaac toast, beef kimbap, and kimchi tuna triangle kimbap (think onigiri). If you've never had Isaac toast, it's a popular Korean street food sandwich that is both savory and sweet. The Isaac toast here is a hefty portion and packed with full of flavor. There is a jam spread on the bread that gives it some sweetness and the cabbage slaw is dressed in what tastes like a thousand island dressing. Then you have the egg with carrot patty as well as a slice of cheese and ham. It's the most excellent breakfast sandwich. The bread is fluffy and griddled with butter - what more could you ask for? The beef bulgogi kimbap was also yummy. They don't put too much rice and they certainly don't skimp on the filling. The bulgogi was seasoned well - salty and sweet enough. The other ingredients were fresh and paired well together. Of the kimbaps I've had in my lifetime, this was definitely one of the better ones. The kimchi tuna triangle kimbap was packaged well so that the seaweed does not touch the rice until you're ready to eat, just like how they package it in Japan. Good amount of filling, well seasoned rice, and crisp seaweed. The prices are very fair here given the portion size. I would definitely return when in the mood for some kimbap and Isaac toast! I can't keep on falling in love with Korean food. So simple, but so colorful and delicious. I have always wanted to try a Korean street sandwich made by a Korean. It was just as good as I had envisioned it. I love how the thinly sliced cabbage still had it's crunch. The toasted bread had some strawberry spread on it which balanced the savory taste of the egg, ham, and cheese. I got the number one. I would love to come back to try it again if I were in the area. A new favorite in Fremont! I have been dying to try this place but it's close most of the time we are available. I finally got to try it and I am so glad I bookmarked it. This place is next to dominos, in this small little plaza across Washington High. It is very easy to miss, with a small parking lot in front. The inside is very small, I think I remember seeing a long table against the glass window but I am not sure. It's more of a grab and go imo. The ladies that make the food and drinks are quick and very kind. I have tried the isaac toast, gimbap, triangle gimbap, and some of the drinks. All have been very good. The ladies that work at Rice Junky Fremont are nice and helped with my questions. The food and drinks were a 10/10 on all the items. So much flavor and big portions. I never got a chance to try this place before they simplified their menu so I did go in with limited expectations. Wanting to try something from each category, we got an Isaac Toast (Avocado Isaac Toast), a kimbap (fish cake), and a sandwich (chicken). I expected the Avocado Isaac Toast to have a good amount of avocado or at least visible that I almost went back in to tell them they forgot my avocado until I found a small piece in the bottom 1/3. This cute little store was located right across Washington High School in Fremont. We decided to give it a try due to the ratings and the menu. We got the combination Isaac toast and Cheese Ttokbokki. The Isaac toast included so many ingredients: egg pancake, cabbage, avocado, ham and its house sauce. The egg pancake was delicious. It was fluffy and filled with cabbage. The toast itself was crispy and lightly sweet. The Cheese Ttokbokki was a bowel of rice cake, fish cake, cabbage, boiled egg, and melted cheese. Another quick update as Rice Junky has a completely different menu than what they had initially had when they first opened. I was actually pretty bummed that they didn't have their original menu but we opted to still try them out. In short, one of the rare spots that serve the famous Isaac toasts as well as triangle gimbaps (or Korean style onigiris) as well as gimbaps (kimbaps) and sandwiches. L O C A T I O N In this tiny plaza with very small amount of parking. Depending on when you come there may be tons of spots or barely any. We arrived when there was barely any. There's a laundromat nearby and a pizza place too. I N S I D E It's basically a to-go spot. There's a window side table where you could stand and eat but you're better off grabbing the food and heading somewhere else otherwise you will smell like food. M E N U I mentioned their menu, they have Isaac toast, triangle gimbap, gimbap, sandwiches, coffees and some drinks. ~ Combination Isaac Toast ~ It's a sizeable sandwich and very saucy like it leaked through the paper and through the carton they put it in. It has egg, cheese, meat slice, and shredded cabbage. I wish it had less sauce and perhaps a thicker slice of bread to help offset the amount of filling inside. The balance just felt wrong. But it was hefty. It felt like an okonomiyaki between two slices of buttered toast. ~ Triangle Gimbaps ~ We picked 3: Pork Bulgogi, Beef Bulgogi and Crab Avocado. The wrapper was interesting to make sure that the seaweed didn't completely wilt. But they were all quite good with a good ratio of meat to rice. I did like the crab avocado the best just because it reminds me of a California roll. S E R V I C E Everything is made to order, so it does take a bit of time, but all in all, it took only 10 minutes to get our food and considering we saw people waiting and were about to go to a Plan B, glad we just stuck it out as it wasn't as long as others have said it taking. But I would imagine if it were during school lunch time, you may want to preorder and just pick up. We did do our ordering through the kiosk inside. O V E R A L L I understand the shift from their original concept to this toast and gimbap place. It's a little more cost efficient with less actual meat to prepare outside of the bulgogis. Saw this place on Instagram and have been meaning to try for awhile. I got the beef gimbap, bulgogi isaac (sando), cheese ddeokbokki,cream avocado triangle gimbap, and an iced vanilla latte. There is a bit of a wait because they make your food fresh, about 20-30 min. Everything was so good. The beef gimbap was probably my favorite: the meat is seasoned and cooked well, each roll is huge and doesn't have too much rice, and the seaweed has a nice crisp. Second favorite was the bulgogi isaac, which has HUGE portions of meat balanced out by lettuce and a crisp toast on outside. I also enjoyed the triangle gimbap, where the saltiness of the anchovy and the creaminess of the cheese inside were a good flavor combo. The cheese ddeokbokki has a thick layer of cheese on top, with good chew from the rice cake and nice flavor from the fish cake. The Fremont location is really tiny and focused on take out. There is a tiny ledge to eat there but only works if no one else is there. The menu is limited compared to the other location as found out after the fact. The prices are reasonable. When we got there the ordering kiosk went offline and took what seemed forever for them to call for service and get it back online. The beef bulgogi sandwhich is ok. I would prefer the rice burrito seen in the pics but seems that's only offered at the other location. The tuna kimbap is ok. It needs a sauce which wasn't provided. If you are close by and in a pinch, sure. But I'm not so I'd rather try the other location with a larger menu. read more

Are you ready to try some Korean street food? This place brought back memories of my childhood in Korea--especially the street food I grew up with. The staff reminded me of the friendly "ajummas" (mom-like ladies) at food carts on the street, always smiling and cooking with so much love. They were kind and welcoming :) I also really appreciated how thoughtfully the food was packed. Sandwich was in the small open box , made it super easy to enjoy in the car, completely mess free! I felt like the sandwich was super filling, and you can tell they use fresh ingredients! And kimbap was just speechless, beautifully made and perfect for a quick lunch. My sister and I wanted to go and try out this place since the sandos looked bomb.com. This location is very small, so dinning in and eating is not an option is more like a take-out or eat in your car sort of thing. Parking is definitely an issue. Theres not many spots available so best option would be to park on the street. Store is really nice and neat inside. They have the tv menus and people can order on the screen or with a cashier. The monitor to order is neat because it has pictures of the food. What we order: For drinks we order iced matcha. The ladies weren't quite sure what to do so I decided to call grubhub support cuz my credit card had already been charged. Good thing I wasn't in a hurry and the crowds mentioned on Yelp weren't there. As I was waiting on the phone, the ladies informed me that they found it in their system and will start making my order. I think they rushed my order cuz I waited maybe 5 more minutes. The second visit I decided to order at the counter and not deal with grubhub. Again no lines no trouble parking. Haven't been here in a while, but they remodeled the interior and changed their menu. They have a few Instagram-esque decorations that would look great in pictures. After keeping Rice Junky on my wish list for quite some time, I finally had the chance to try it last week. It's a very small, to-go style spot (not dine-in as I originally thought), but that didn't take away from the experience. Service was quick, and ordering was simple. We went for the Avocado Toast, Isaac Toast, and Tteokbokki (my first time trying this South Korean dish). The toasts were the highlight -- especially the unexpected addition of jam. I have mixed feelings about the Rice Junky in Fremont. I used to love frequenting this spot for their Cocaine Chicken wraps, burritos, and bowls, which were flavorful and delicious. In my recent visit, they had changed their menu and it was a DISAPPOINTING experience. We ordered two things this time, a bulgogi sandwich and their three triangle gimbap (cream anchovy, bulgogi, and kimchi tuna). We waited 39 minutes. Bulgogi Sandwich: was left in a bag to become soggy for 10-15 minutes as they prepared the three gimbaps. The bread was nothing special, just generic white bread. the bulgogi marinade was too sweet to go with the basic bread. Just a bad experience despite eating it straight from the store as it was room temperature from being left out as they prepared the gimbap. Gimbap: while they took the time to wrap each individual gimbap, in my opinion, that is not the best use of time. kim chi tunawas not it for me, more on the sour side. I prefer my kim chi a little spicier and a tiny bit sweeter. The rest of the flavors (creamy anchovy, bulgogi) were okay, nothing special aside the bulgogi being similar complaint to the sandwich. The ordering process remains straightforward for a small establishment. But they may be adjusting to their new menu, as they were not efficient in their prep process. Ultimately, I don't think I will return as the menu change has left me longing for the dishes that initially drew me in.
