Spicy PORK BULGOGI SAMGAK GIMBAP (TRIANGULAR SHAPED GIMBAP)
    Theresa S.

I can't keep on falling in love with Korean food. So simple, but so colorful and delicious. I have always wanted to try a Korean street sandwich made by a Korean. It was just as good as I had envisioned it. I love how the thinly sliced cabbage still had it's crunch. The toasted bread had some strawberry spread on it which balanced the savory taste of the egg, ham, and cheese. I got the number one. I would love to come back to try it again if I were in the area. I also got the spicy pork triangular rice and it was delicious as well. It had a perfect ratio of rice to meat.

A new favorite in Fremont! I have been dying to try this place but it's close most of the time we are available. I finally got to try it and I am so glad I bookmarked it. This place is next to dominos, in this small little plaza across Washington High. It is very easy to miss, with a small parking lot in front. The inside is very small, I think I remember seeing a long table against the glass window but I am not sure. It's more of a grab and go imo. The ladies that make the food and drinks are quick and very kind. I have tried the isaac toast, gimbap, triangle gimbap, and some of the drinks. All have been very good. My top favorites are definitely the gimbap and isaac toast. Definitely give it a shot if in the area and looking for something quick to eat!

The ladies that work at Rice Junky Fremont are nice and helped with my questions. The food and drinks were a 10/10 on all the items. So much flavor and big portions. The isaac sandwiches were crunchy and buttery with a mix of sweet and savory that marries well. The lemonade is tart but refreshing. I loved the matcha, it was creamy and not too sweet. This location does not offer seating because of the small location, but they do have a standing counter in the window.

    Avocado Isaac toast

I never got a chance to try this place before they simplified their menu so I did go in with limited expectations. Wanting to try something from each category, we got an Isaac Toast (Avocado Isaac Toast), a kimbap (fish cake), and a sandwich (chicken). I expected the Avocado Isaac Toast to have a good amount of avocado or at least visible that I almost went back in to tell them they forgot my avocado until I found a small piece in the bottom 1/3. By then, it was already a soggy mess. The other two were okay but nothing really stood out to me and the Isaac Toast I was most excited to try was disappointing.

My first sandwich was so good and it impressed me!def 5/5! Yet, when I go there the next time, it was nothing like my first sandwich...not sure if it was a different chef/person made it but I was so disappointed...the first one was really good though

I enjoy coming here for a quick but hearty lunch. The kimbap or Isaac toast sandwiches are a solid choice. I was first tried Isaac toast style sandwiches in South Korea and was surprised that they served something similar here! Definitely similar flavor options. Staff are always nice. I've accidentally been given the wrong order before, so just double check before you walk away. The store and the parking lot are TINY! Simply grab and go.

3.5/5 This place has been bookmarked for a while, and since we were in the vicinity, it was a great time to stop by. We ordered a beef Kimbap and the Isaac toast. Kimbap: 4/5 . Kimbap was flavorful. The kiosk was easy to maneuver through to add or omit ingredients. I would get this again if I was in the area. Isaac Toast: 3/5. This was a little underwhelming. I've never had this before so I don't have anything to compare it to except the standard American sandwich. It was just ok for me. This was fun little shop with sarcastic wordings around the store. Not a sit down place. So, it's a - order at kiosk and go kind of place.

This cute little store was located right across Washington High School in Fremont. We decided to give it a try due to the ratings and the menu. We got the combination Isaac toast and Cheese Ttokbokki. The Isaac toast included so many ingredients: egg pancake, cabbage, avocado, ham and its house sauce. The egg pancake was delicious. It was fluffy and filled with cabbage. The toast itself was crispy and lightly sweet. The Cheese Ttokbokki was a bowel of rice cake, fish cake, cabbage, boiled egg, and melted cheese. I loved the sauce for the Ttokbokki! It was a little spicy but full of flavors. The inside of the store was quite small and there was only bar seating. The ladies were super friendly. It was a great place for Korean street food!

    Gimbap with onigiri

I guess it's just not for me. Been here twice. FOOD // Crab and avocado onigiri / triangle - strange how the rice is flavored - very very very little crab - does consist a good amount of avocado that is still green and noticeable - I appreciate that they separate the seaweed with plastic so it's still nice, fresh, and crispy Beef bulgogi kimpap / gimbap - strange they add raw lettuce - rice is not very good... it is very sticky and very unappetizing OVERALL // I am kind of afraid of coming back because it seems as if the food is already made (previously we had to wait) and sitting around...because once I hit the submit button for my orders, a brown bag immediately shows up in my face. SERVICE // - completely a self service kiosk establishment - there is zero service - I saw a Korean carbonated orange can drink on my way out and I tried making conversation with the worker such as if the drink is good in her opinion... it did not work... she just wanted to get out of the room and told me to pay by kiosk (I also saw straws and had to ask if I could grab one.). AMBIENCE // - No indoor seating (they had a wooden or was it plastic bench before but I guess they removed it?). - they do still have a wooden table for those willing to stand and eat - completely to me it is wanting to be a grab and go establishment as much as possible LOCATION // - tiny plaza with laundromat and taekwondo - somewhat complicated parking: does have a parking lot but it's tiny...however there's another adjacent parking lot and you just have to walk Will I come back? Not going to lie, if I was in the area and I wanted something quick and able to simply eat in the car, I would...this place is like an Asian McDonalds and I appreciate that.

Sad to see they no longer offer cocaine chicken bowls here! That was my go to order at this location. I really wish they would consider bringing them back :(

Another quick update as Rice Junky has a completely different menu than what they had initially had when they first opened. I was actually pretty bummed that they didn't have their original menu but we opted to still try them out. In short, one of the rare spots that serve the famous Isaac toasts as well as triangle gimbaps (or Korean style onigiris) as well as gimbaps (kimbaps) and sandwiches. L O C A T I O N In this tiny plaza with very small amount of parking. Depending on when you come there may be tons of spots or barely any. We arrived when there was barely any. There's a laundromat nearby and a pizza place too. I N S I D E It's basically a to-go spot. There's a window side table where you could stand and eat but you're better off grabbing the food and heading somewhere else otherwise you will smell like food. M E N U I mentioned their menu, they have Isaac toast, triangle gimbap, gimbap, sandwiches, coffees and some drinks. ~ Combination Isaac Toast ~ It's a sizeable sandwich and very saucy like it leaked through the paper and through the carton they put it in. It has egg, cheese, meat slice, and shredded cabbage. I wish it had less sauce and perhaps a thicker slice of bread to help offset the amount of filling inside. The balance just felt wrong. But it was hefty. It felt like an okonomiyaki between two slices of buttered toast. ~ Triangle Gimbaps ~ We picked 3: Pork Bulgogi, Beef Bulgogi and Crab Avocado. The wrapper was interesting to make sure that the seaweed didn't completely wilt. But they were all quite good with a good ratio of meat to rice. I did like the crab avocado the best just because it reminds me of a California roll. S E R V I C E Everything is made to order, so it does take a bit of time, but all in all, it took only 10 minutes to get our food and considering we saw people waiting and were about to go to a Plan B, glad we just stuck it out as it wasn't as long as others have said it taking. But I would imagine if it were during school lunch time, you may want to preorder and just pick up. We did do our ordering through the kiosk inside. O V E R A L L I understand the shift from their original concept to this toast and gimbap place. It's a little more cost efficient with less actual meat to prepare outside of the bulgogis. But I do miss the old menu. The Isaac toast was fine, would I get it again? No. Just not something I would gravitate towards but it was nice to try. The gimbaps on the other hand, I do love a gimbap. So I would come back for those as they're relatively priced well in comparison to other places. Also not many spots have gimbaps. Definitely try them out!

Love this place we will be back every time i go to fremont from now on! The shop was small with no place to eat but the staff is fast. it was nice that i could order online and pay at the store. I don't always want to link my card. The food was on point and the drinks so yummy!

I'm definitely a fan! Almost as good as it gets offering feel good (rice-based) Korean street food that everyone would enjoy. From the classic kimbap to Korean styles onigiris to street food inspired toast, whatever you get here will definitely hit the spot when you're craving carb-o-licious-ness. Prices are affordable. Friendly Korean staff, but kiosk only ordering system, Rice Junky at this location is small, and rather loud little store that is take out focused with made to order offerings. So, none of what you take will be pre-made--be prepared to wait. Private lot, but could get full quickly. I'd definitely visit again.

Ask the Community - Rice Junky

    Have they re-opened yet?

They reopened a couple of days ago. The menu is a little smaller than what it was before though.

It says they are temporarily closed?

A car drove into the building and they are working on reopening

I tried calling to see if their cocaine chicken bowl was dairy free, but I did not get a clear answer. Anyone know? Thanks!

It's not unless you order it without cheese and without macaroni salad.

What's in the American and angry sauces?

    Americans and angry Americans.

    What are the sauce descriptions?

Angry: their hottest sauce Bbq: sweet (good for people that can't handle spice)…

The website says they have a vegetarian option but it is listed nowhere on the menu, can anyone tell me what it is?

I would call them and ask. It is well worth the inquiry. Their food is so good!! Hope this helps you out.

Multiple times I have called between your Covid business hours but no one answers the phone. Is there special times no one picks up the phone? This is my third time in the span of one month, please clarify?

The correct number is actually (510) 894-4353. I have requested a phone number update on Yelp, but it didn't go through.

Is it open for take out right now?

Yes! We stopped by for Saturday lunch (April 18, 2020)

My order came with bean sprouts, broccoli, fish cakes, potatoes, kimchi, eggplant, and tofu. My favorites were the stir fried fish cakes and the lightly sweetened potatoes. *Kimchi Jjigae: the broth carried a pleasantly fermented kimchi flavor. There was also a generous amount of soft tofu incorporated throughout the stew. This leaned more heavily into deeper, aged kimchi notes. *Mul Naengmyun: the chilled broth had a naturally tangy and slightly sweet profile, so the side of mustard felt necessary to sharpen the flavors further. The buckwheat noodles were pleasantly bouncy, though they had clumped together a bit at the bottom. Unfortunately, the toppings were the weakest part, as both the meat and egg were noticeably overcooked. *Corn Cheese: surprisingly mozzarella forward. The cheese was melted well and paired nicely with the bursts of sweetness from the corn. This complemented the hotter savory dishes especially well. Overall, this is a solid takeout option with efficient service and dependable packaging. I would still like to see more depth and refinement in some of the broths, but the foundation is definitely there.

The restaurant is not ayce which is actually what we were looking for. Sometimes you just want to order different stuff without subject yourself to overeating. The problem is the food is so so but for the price it's slightly less quality than you'd expect. We ordered both the combo 1 and a spicy squid dish. The combo 1 has a bbq galbi (LA galbi), a bbq dish (with chicken, pork and bulgogi), tofu soup and a cheesy corn dish. None of them are bad per se but the amount of food doesn't feel like a good enough deal for the price. The combo is a better deal than ordering the dish individually but the the amount of galbi is just too little. The same is true for the spicy squid dish, just too few pieces to justify the price. The tofu soup doesn't come with an egg. Banchan however has a good number of varieties. This is also the only Korean restaurant I know that charges $3 for a bowl of rice. The service is good and the place is larger than expected. There are bbq tables but I don't think those have been used for a while. The location is the tiny plaza where the main focus is the McDonald's. There is however a fairly popular coffee place next door.

They are down to their final days with their closure on 02/15/2026, I went to have a last meal with them :( I always recommended this place to all my friends for some K-fried chicken with soju and a cool ambiance. The restaurant is decorated very cool also but I've never posted pictures because my camera doesn't take great pictures in the lighting lol. My favorite things to get were the Pocha K chicken and the rose tteok bokki. Their chicken is consistently very crispy and the sweet savory sauce is soo yummm.

Here's what I got on my recent visit: + Boneless Korean Fried Chicken (5/5): So crispy, juicy, and saucy! I loooove eating this with the cabbage. Best thing here for sure. Expensive... but fun for a night out! + Cheese Tonkatsu Pork Cutlet (4/5): Crispy and very cheesy! Tasty, but a little small for the portion to be honest. Considering the price, I was expecting more. + Pocha Rose Tteokbokki (3/5): Nothing special. On the spicier side, so I wish it was more creamy. Rice cakes were a little too firm for me too. I wouldn't order it again. + Kimbap (4/5): Solid and made fresh! Good ingredients. These are not very durable though. They would start falling apart at just the touch of them.

Even the rice cakes were good too. The main thing you should get is the kalbi jjim. If you're indecisive about the cheese, GET IT! My friend had the kalbi jjim without cheese once and regretted it. He said it's more tasty with the cheese on it. Other than the meat, I'm not sure if I would come here for soup. The clear soups I've gotten here are so-so. They lack in flavor and taste very bland-- wasn't worth the money. I highly recommend coming here with a party of three or more. The kalbi jjim and clear soup was enough for my party of five, and we also got purple rice and banchan. We came here on a Monday evening and was able to dine right away at 6:30pm. This place gets busy and we had to leave right after paying because other parties were waiting.

I can see why this place gets busy as it is small inside. It did get pretty busy shortly after we were seated and quite loud. We came strictly for the Kalbijjim and added cheese. Also ordered potstickers I believe. The kalbijjimm did not disappoint and was good portion. I just wish it had more rice cakes. Service was just okay. For some reason, I was really impressed with how they do their to-go containers. They will take the dish back to kitchen and seal it in a container for you. Loved that!

We came in on a Saturday evening fully expecting a wait since the restaurant was already packed and…read morethere were two large parties ahead of us. We were seated almost immediately and placed our order as quickly as possible. We were seated around 5:50 p.m., but our food didn't arrive until about 6:45 p.m. We were actually patient and understanding about the wait. What became frustrating was when another table that had arrived and ordered after us received their food first. Around 6:40, I politely called our server over, not to complain about the wait itself, but simply to ask why the other table had been served before us. Before I could even finish my question, he cut me off and loudly repeated, "YOUR FOOD WILL BE RIGHT OUT. YOUR FOOD WILL BE RIGHT OUT!" At that point, we felt he wasn't the right person to speak with. One of our family members approached the supervisor to better understand what had happened. Unfortunately, the interaction was just as disappointing. Instead of apologizing for the delay or acknowledging our frustration, we were made to feel like we were simply being impatient. The explanation focused only on why the other table's food came out first, with no effort to empathize or offer a sincere apology. The food itself was decent, and my parents have dined here many times. I have no doubt the restaurant will continue to do well, especially since there aren't many Korean restaurant options in Fremont. However, customer service matters just as much as the food. Waiting nearly an hour is understandable on a busy Saturday night, but dismissive and unprofessional service is not. For this experience, I'm giving one star. mainly because the food itself was decent. Although after waiting nearly an hour while hungry, almost anything would have tasted good. P.S. We still left a 20% tip because we genuinely hope the restaurant acknowledges these service issues and uses the feedback to improve.
