Turned out to be one of a beautiful night in the city. It was Wednesday evening and the next day was thanksgiving, we hopped 2-3 bars and came out of disappointment as it was quiet and that's unlikely to happen when you're in New York. In disappointment we approached towards the path station, we were on 35th street and checked this rooftop was there. We have been there earlier and know they serve good drinks. Moreover as it was not too cold we just thought of going to the top and grab a drink. And to my surprise, yet again it was as lively it was a couple of years ago I went. Same vibes, same rocking crowd and amazing cocktails. I understood it very well now, Monarch is never going to disappoint me. I will visit soon. My followers, this rooftop is highly recommended. Great views, fun atmosphere, slow/aloof service and tart cocktails. Had a 10pm reservation on a Thursday night after a Broadway show. Vaccination and ID required at the door. They say trendy attire is required but it was a very relaxed atmosphere so it wasn't a big deal. We were seated and then waited a good 5 min with no one coming to our table. I stopped at the bar to ask where to order and she said a server will be over so we waited another 3-4 min before someone finally came. I tried the "Thyme to Get Cray" cocktail and my friend had the "Grow A Pear" cocktail. Both were wicked tarte, not a fan of either but I'm not a huge cocktail person regardless. Monarch gives all of the vibes on a Monday night! My boyfriend and I went here after his birthday dinner to continue the celebration. Upon arrival your Vax card & ID are checked, then access is granted to the rooftop. As soon as we stepped off the elevator we were greeted and seated. The menu is accessed via QR code. I knew a Hot Toddy would be great for the slight chill in the air. It was spot on! Just what I was expecting... Great balance of tea & liquor & HOT!!! Monarch had a great playlist of music playing overhead at the perfect level so you could still converse without yelling. So many dope photo ops, neon signs and amazing views of the Empire State Building! One star reduced because we waited longer than expected to be greeted by a waitress. Not the best rooftop in town, and certainly not the worst. Friday Crowd is pretty good the few times that I did come here, the Wednesday or weekday crowd I believe was okay but I only did come here once during the week. Drinks were standard expensive prices like $26 or or 25 for most mix drinks, Wine not much cheaper but maybe a few dollars less than $25. They do have events here from time to time and maybe you get to experience a VIP experience on this rooftop. read more

I have since gone back and had a very different experience (much better). Albeit they weren't as busy and it was in the day time.

We made a reservation for 6 people at 11pm on a Tuesday after more COVID curfews were lifted. By the time we arrived at 11:02pm, there were a crowd of people waiting at the lobby without a bouncer in sight. After we waited for 5 mins we took the elevator up to the rooftop and was able to find a table for our group as we wait for the remainder of our group to arrive. It was super crowded like a club with loud music and a lot of people. Five minutes later by the time our friends arrived, the bouncer was not letting anyone else in even if we had a reservation and the rest of the group is already in. A lot of other groups were also in the same boat. Since our friends couldn't get in, we left the venue entirely to be with our friends. We're still not sure the reason why this happened. Did more people show up than expected to exceed capacity? This shows the venue is really bad at screening guests. Did they not manage their online reservation system right? Either way they should have not allow this situation to culminate in the first place and send text or email notifications that they're not letting people with reservations in. Our friends had to travel up here and it felt super demoralizing to be denied entry even with a reservation. What's the point of having a reservation then? I don't trust this place for future visitations anymore. read more

I came here after making a reservation a week in advance with a couple frineds from out of town. Having heard great things about this place, I couldnt wait to give this place a shot. We arrive, again with reservation, and were stuck in a corner AWAY from all the music, party, and most importantly the rooftop view. For a solid 2 hours we kept trying to move outside and all the waitstaff kept telling us that its for other parties who made reservations (mind you we also had a reservation and we had more people in our group then the space given). After a lot of unnecessary back and forth we finally managed to get a roof top spot. I will say on a positive note that when the manager found out about our situation and gave us shots on the house till we were able to find a seat outside. The food was good more for snacking so I would definitely eat dinner or a snack before coming here. Drinks were good too (taste wise). However I felt the drinks weren't strong enough especially for the cost. On average each drink was about 15-20, I understand that I came to pay for the view, but I would have liked a bit more alcohol than provided. read more

There was a few available tables when we got there, it didn't seem to be that busy for a Saturday night. Our server is very friendly. The atmosphere is cozy, the decor is cute. An interesting location but make a reservation if you are visiting in the evening. Dropped in here for an after show cocktail at around 1100, grabbed a drink and a photo and left. The good: The location, once in the bar the location is pretty great just a block from the Empire State Building and walkable from broadway, Times Square and the Library. The space, overall the space is pretty well done there is indoor and outdoor rooftop with views of the Empire State Building, though to get the indoor space where to rooftop bit matters you have to have a reservation. The bar is awkwardly on the other side of the building and the bottle shelves block any view you might otherwise have from that side of the building. The interior is a little too trendy for me fake living wall and neon light words and all that but it was a nice environment. The bad: The Service, the hostess asked if we had a reservation, when I told her I did not she just kind of stared at me. I told her I was going to the bar and just kind of walked away which was a weird interaction. Like a lot of these bars they have a fun cocktail list which is great but they only had one person working the bar while we were there so getting service became a challenge as he was trying to make the over-complicated cocktails everyone was ordering. The entrance, you get to this place through an elevator that was a bit worse for wear and the entrance was next to a rotating door filled with trash when we got there. The mediocre: Seating. We didn't have a reservation so we didn't sit but after walking the room a bit it seemed there were a lot of unoccupied tables with "reserved" placards on them. I get that they probably don't want people at the bar walking around and just grabbing a table... (which I might have done) ... but this did seem a bit odd to have empty seats in some of the nicer parts of the room blocked off while keeping walkins in a back bar area. read more

I went for the first time to this rooftop and I am very satisfied. First of all, you have to take the elevator to go up to the bar. The place is quite spacious and several waiters are at the bar. There was a private event the day we went there so I didn't see the whole rooftop, but the part where we were was really great, with a very nice view on the Empire State Building. The decoration is quite simple but classy, and outdoor heaters were also available because of the low temperatures that night. The prices were relatively reasonable, we paid 10$ for a beer on draft, which is in my opinion decent given the location of the bar. I would definitely come back. read more

Based on preivous reviews, it's kind of difficult to agree with those who had a bad experience, but granted - I came here on a Monday evening with my girlfriends while on vacation. We made a reservation online for General Admission, which is the best choice if you're only dropping by for drinks and do not expect table room. Otherwise, if you're looking to sit, eat, and drink, a table reservation is recommended. The rooftop view is spectacular. You get a non-obstructive view of the Empire State Building and if you time it just right, the sunset peeks between buildings. We only stayed for drinks and fries but that alone was good enough for us! No complaints in that department. I'm giving them 2 stars because it does have a nice view and the ambience is great BUT they water down their drinks so beware! I ordered a beer and shot of Jamison and the whiskey was the color of light beer. I sent it back and lo and behold the next one that came out was fine, so there is NO doubt they water drinks down. My wife got a martini and could not even taste the alcohol so we paid and left. Hosted a holiday party there. Was a complete fail. Over $100 per person for 2 drinks and a food platter that consisted of fries, pigs in the blanket, and some pizza's, that was so small that not everyone was able to eat. there were passed hor'dourves which were dry and inedible. the initial greeting from management was nice, but then we never say them again and the guy who was trying to settle the bill was telling us that we owed him $4K still, when that was the deposit. Good place with fun vibe but honestly there is nothing special about the alcohol, cocktails and the food they serve. It has a beautiful view of the Empire State bldg though, up close and personal. The staff is very warm and helpful with helps makes the experience great. We went with a group of 6 friends , to enjoy some drinks and a breathtaking view . And it definitely delivered . So they encourage you to make a reservation which we did . Although mine was for later in the evening our plans made it so that we had to go sooner . Usually there's a credit card charge per person to modify reservations too . But their concierge guy was super nice and said he'd take care of it for us no problem! See good service right upfront . When we got there it's a chill space not too crazy not too crowded. They sat us in the main area under their enclosed see through space and you have a magnificent unobstructed view of the Empire . You can also walk around outside if you want and the view there is absolutely gorgeous . We got some small bites nothing exciting to write home about but it's your regular bar snacking so even if you're hungry there's something to get . It's ofc pricey so don't go here hungry . I celebrated my 30th birthday here years ago and take visitors here when they want to enjoy some music and a nice view. Every time I've gone there was no cover. The service was good too. It's so central in the city and up the block from the train. For my birthday we had a bunch of little bites to eat like little pieces of pizza, tacos, guac.
