Brenda proved to be patient, positive, and resourceful throughout the whole process. I'm very happy with my car, my payments, and affordable warranty. After being a provident member for 20 years, I almost gave up but Brenda Stewart reassured me that Provident Oakland branch is capable of excellent customer service. Thank you.

Earlier this year, I was scammed very bad. I called Provident immediately and went into the bank and filled out paperwork. I was told they had caught it in time, I would lose NO money. However, around midnight, I got a notice that two things totaling $1,200 cleared my account. I complained and was given a phone number to call and told I could only talk to this one person. Soon I got a letter saying what happened to me was not fraud and that would be the end of it. I complained because I had been told everything was okay - but yet they cleared two transactions. I was told to call that one person - only he could help me. I called and I called and I called some more. He was always out of the office. He never once returned my call. I will be leaving this credit union soon. They had no business telling me it was okay when it wasn't. They did not help me and then they ignored me. This is not the kind of service I want. Such a shame - as I really liked this credit union until this happened.

A Deeply Appreciative Reflection on Lorena and Her Exceptional Crew at Ace Check Cashing Spot…read more In an era where customer service is often treated as a checkbox rather than a cornerstone, discovering a business that genuinely upholds care, consistency, and community as its daily practice feels like striking gold. And that, without a doubt, is exactly what I've found at the Ace Check Cashing Spot--thanks entirely to Lorena and her incredible team. From the moment I first walked through their doors, what struck me was not the efficiency of the service (though it is, without question, excellent), but the genuine warmth that seemed to radiate from behind the counter. It wasn't a forced politeness or transactional smile--no, this was something far more rare. It was the feeling of being seen. Valued. Known, even. Lorena, with her calm professionalism and natural warmth, has set a tone for her team that turns an errand into an experience, a task into a touchpoint for human connection. Let me elaborate: I've visited plenty of financial service locations over the years. You go in, fill out your forms, stand in line, maybe get your check processed with a grunt and a "next." But at Ace, under Lorena's stewardship, the difference is night and day. Whether you're a regular or it's your first visit, there's a sense of rhythm and respect in how you're treated. It's like they're not just doing a job--they're curating an atmosphere where people from all walks of life feel safe, welcome, and even uplifted. Lorena leads by example. Her attention to detail, her cool-headedness during busy hours, and her unwavering patience with customers who might need a little extra help are just a few things I've witnessed personally. You get the sense that she doesn't just manage a team--she mentors them. Her crew reflects that same energy: they're efficient but never rushed, personable but never invasive, and--perhaps most important of all--they remember you. Not just your name, but your preferences, your personality, even the kind of day you might be having. There's a rhythm to how they operate--quick when needed, attentive always--and the atmosphere is calm even on the busiest afternoons. They juggle tasks with such quiet competence that you forget how stressful the financial services industry can be. Behind the counter is not just a team, but a well-tuned ensemble, working in harmony, guided by Lorena's steady hand and clear vision. What may seem like a small thing--cashing a check or paying a bill--becomes something much more meaningful here. There's a kind of trust you build with people who show up for you consistently, who treat your time and your dignity with respect. And that trust? It's priceless. In a world that's always rushing, where interactions often feel transactional and fleeting, Lorena and her crew stand as a reminder that professionalism and humanity can, and should, go hand in hand. I didn't expect to find a sense of community at a check cashing spot--but thanks to Lorena and her team, that's exactly what I've found. To Lorena and every single team member at Ace: thank you. Thank you for showing up every day with integrity, patience, and kindness. Thank you for making people feel seen, heard, and valued. You're not just offering a service--you're offering a sense of belonging, and that's something no amount of money can buy. With sincere appreciation, A grateful and loyal customer

I'm still fighting with Freedom Forever Solar and Mosaic/Solar Servicing/Concord Servicing because…read moreFreedom Forever and I discussed adding additional panels to my existing solar system. The project got cancelled, but Freedom Forever did not cancel the loan (which is fraud, accepting payment for work never done). For months, Mosaic wouldn't cancel the loan because they were in bankruptcy and my loan was an asset. And they sent out someone to put a lock on my existing solar system for nonpayment. So they put a lock on a solar system they had no authority over. I cut the lock off. I haven't taken them to court yet because as soon as I do, the courts will take a year and a half to resolve anything and I'm hopeful this will be resolved this month. Mosaic has now exited bankruptcy. Both companies agree that the loan should be cancelled, but they still haven't processed the cancellation. Apparently this happened enough that there is a month backlog in processing cancellations. How many bad loans did they have for it to take a month to process the cancellation? Meanwhile they keep contacting me to collect a loan I don't owe and they've wrecked my credit because I won't pay them. Do not do business with Freedom Forever or Mosaic/Solar Servicing. So, I'm having a very bad time, and any well wishes would be appreciated.

I have been a customer of Golden 1 for over 20 years, doing most of my banking with them since I worked next door at the Elihu Harris State Building at 1515 Clay Street. I was not able to do a cut and paste of my updated review which was written eight months ago. Thus, I am copying part of what I have written back then. The branch is well lit with natural sunlight coming through their huge glass windows and it is more spacious than the previous location on Clay Street. There are five teller windows plus one window for the disabled customers. Three office cubicles are available for customers to discuss the home buying and refinancing needs of the community with local advisors. Street parking is nearby and so are public parking garages. Drawback: street parking can be problematic and difficult. Public transportation (AC Transit 51A) is within walking distance to the credit union. Also, BART's nearest station is the 19th Street one (a three block walk heading north on Broadway).

However, I went in for a wire and knew that I would be sending another one so I asked for the form, but they failed to tell me an appointment "is recommended". So came back for a second wire and was told at least a 30 min wait bc I didn't make an appointment. Another time, they tried to say I couldn't take out $2k of cash without letting them know ahead of time and when I said that's absurd, they said oh it's bc it's Chinese new year and we're anticipating large withdrawals. Another time, I witness a teller speak very loudly to a customer in line when they were asking follow up questions after an announcement was made. Once that interaction ended, the teller said something a teacher would tell students- we need to listen. I found that very disturbing given she was speaking to an adult. This branch is a hit or miss. Unfortunately, because this is the only branch in Oakland, us customers ate at the mercy of the tellers.

This credit union has a major problem with there network going down once or twice a month, when there network is down you can't access no money from the ATM, use your debit card or online banking or when you call to check your account balance a message comes on and say account is unavailable and the call is disconnected. When the network is down only thing customer service will say is wait 1 hour for the network to be restored, it been situation when the network has been down from 11:00am to 10:00pm and I didn't have access to my account. I get direct deposit from my employer and this Credit Union sometimes won't release my funds until 10am and a few times I had to call customer service for them to release my funds. This branch ATM sometimes doesn't work and it doesn't accept deposits, so you have to go to another credit union ATM to access cash or make an deposit. I had a problem with fraudulent activity on my bank card, I had to fill out a form at the branch, so 2 weeks went by I called the CU for a follow-up they had lost the form, I had to go back in person and speak with the manager to get the fraudulent activity resolved. Since this credit union took over People"s credit union, it's been to many issues with the network going down and they holding your money. This place need to be reported to FDIC. I supported this local CU when it was People"s CU, but a few family members closed their accounts and went to Patelco or Provident because of lack of branch hours and network issues, soon this CU will lose another long time customer.
