You come in look at a menu at the order counter. I ordered a grilled chicken salad. Expecting the chicken to at least warm. Nope it was prepackaged. It had a strange taste, texture and color. I took it back to the counter and the man asked what was wrong. I told him and he says we don't grille it in house. The he says what do you want me to do about it? I tell him to make me a salad without the chicken; his reply it will take 10 minutes to get it out to me. I say fine I'll wait for it. He is angry now and slams the bowl against the side of the trash can to empty the salad. The salad was very large bowl. Over rated pizza. Subpar pizza. The price was too high for the worst service and quality. The decor seems to be left over bits and pieces from other pizza places of the '90s. First time here today and I'm sorry we didn't try it sooner. It's a counter service restaurant where you order at the counter and get your own drink and they bring the food to your table. The speed of service was noticeable. We ordered lunch specials with a small salad and individual pizza each. They were bringing the salad out before we even got to the table and they brought out the pizzas before we finished the salad. I saw it was the same speed for other diners. Not sure what happens if you get large pizzas to share. The salad was small but had lots of cheese and tomato. They give you a squeeze bottle if dressing, so you always get the amount to want. Pizza crust is very thin and crispy - very cracker like. I guess that's how they cook so quick. I had bbq chicken and wife had pepperoni. Mine had lots of bbq sauce , chicken and cheese. It was very good. The pepperoni had less sauce, I think, but it looked like the right amount and also right amount of topping. Both were sprinkled liberally with what I think was an Italian seasoning. We would definitely eat here again. The sandwich looked good and I'd like to try one, but will probably stick with the bbq pizza. read more

As I was working locally this past week, Monica's was highly recommended. My favorite pizza is St. Louis style, and this was some of the best I have ever had! I apologize ahead for the three star rating. I will explain why. We are traveling and we find ourselves in Centralia Illinois and ask while doing a little historic tour where we should go have lunch. Locals say the coffee shop or Monical's pizza. I really wish we had chosen the other. I found it odd that anyone would recommend a chain restaurant but then I found out that's all this town has. Almost nothing available for lunch other than fast food. We go to the pizza joint where we have to stand in line to order because no one takes orders at the table. I was told I could take a menu to look over to table but to come back up to order. This menu was ripped apart and looked like it hadn't been updated in over a decade. The decor was the same. Bathroom was stocked and clean and restaurant did seem clean just terribly outdated. Order on your own, fix your own drinks and wait on food. Food came fast. I got the lunch special of an 8" pizza and salad and drink. I didn't have time to even get my drink and eat half my salad before pizza was there. Pizza crust was really crispy and the toppings were plentiful. My complaint is that the underside of pizza there were burnt bits of corn meal they put on bottom of pizza. Obviously they need to clean their ovens. Burnt pieces of corn meal and cheese doesn't make for a good tasting pizza. I should have taken a picture of my teeth when I got in car. Black burnt pieces all over. I probably won't be going back but I wanted to warn anyone looking that this was my experience. I like Monical's, their orphan special is our families favorite from there. We would probably eat at or order out food here more often if the prices weren't so much. We are out-of-towners thus, accordingly, asked around town what folks thought to be the best food around. The consensus was clearly Monical's. Easy to find and easy parking, we made our way in where we were greeted by super friendly staff who were very helpful going through the menu with us. We took their recommendation on a pleaser for two and ended up getting a custom 12 inch pizza and drinks for $16. The food was fantastic! I'm personally not a fan of thin-crust pizza, but this was topped exceptionally well so I did not mind. The sauce was good, not too sweet. The sausage well seasoned, the mushrooms and onions toasted but still soft. Overall the pizza was not very greasy either- a plus. The setting is dated, but very towny, clean and good for groups. My booth was comfy. The friendly staff and tasty pie earned this a 5 star from me. I can see why the locals love it here! read more

Monical's Pizza is a small midwestern chain that bought out the old local favorite Pizza Man. This business gets a Midwestern "3 stars" although if I compared it across the country it's more like 2 or 2 1/2. The pizza is pretty good, a nice very crispy thin crust...the exact opposite of Chicago-style pizza or Zachary's in Oakland. Toppings are your very standard ones...nothing exotic here. Salads are iceberg lettuce with shredded cheese and bits of tomato. Dressing is the finest Kraft can put in a plastic bag. Extra-sugary French dressing is delivered in vast quantities in a squirt bottle. The locals (I used to be one) like to eat it on crackers. Service is friendly and this place specializes in quantity. This is probably the best mom and pop pizza joint in Centralia. I remember when it was a small building called Pizza Man. We use to go here when I was a kid after every baseball game. As years went on I even took my own daughter here. The pizza is thin crust. All the toppings are nothing special, but they are decent. Salad is not bad. I can remember getting sugar rushes from the Mr. Pibb from the tap. Service here is fast and pretty friendly. The place was always packed out when we would go. Even during lunch it is pretty packed out. If you enjoy a good sit down meal of cardboard thin crust pizza you can't go wrong. Get the Family Special. It's worth it. read more
