In my never-ending journey to find the best latte, there are only a few places I consider supremely the best of the best. Maybe it is college nostalgia or maybe it's just the foundation they built me on, but Monomyth in Lubbock, Texas, is easily some of the best coffee I have ever had. Located off Broadway in a tiny house, Monomyth opened its doors in 2019. It took me until the summer after my sophomore year in 2022 to try them. Rookie mistake. The interior is this beautiful light wood mixed with white walls, white metallic chairs, and touches of red throughout the building. It's simply cozy. It feels like a coffee shop in a house because truly that's all it is. Every beverage I've had at Monomyth, I've enjoyed. My standard weapon of choice is a hot lavender latte with oat milk, which is always served in a beautiful red ceramic cup. Sometimes I'll go for iced beverages. I tried an espresso tonic there for the first time and hated that espresso could have bubbles, but found myself ordering it time and time again throughout the summer. Their fall Firefall Latte is fantastic, and often, I find myself going back to their seasonal menus because they have it down to a science. I think espresso-based drinks have to be espresso-forward to the right degree. I've had many lattes that are too flavorful and sugary or too milky. Monomyth seems to nail the ratio every time, making their hot drinks balance perfectly from the flavor shots to the milk to the espresso rooted at the bottom of the cup. It's like 2000s Spurs basketball, where everyone on the floor is assisting. They also bring in pastries from the local Brûlée Bakery, which includes kolaches, homemade Pop-Tarts, cinnamon buns, muffins, almond croissants, and more. I find Monomyth one of the best places to work. Their atmosphere is excellent, their staff is super accommodating, and there is just this bubble of productivity going around the place even more so than your average coffee shop. Many textbooks were read at Monomyth, many essays were written at Monomyth, I scripted at Monomyth, I did remote work at Monomyth. If a task can be done on a computer, it should be done at Monomyth. When you go there often enough, you start meeting the regulars, and they all have great stories to share. You start to feel like part of the neighborhood. I can't recommend Monomyth enough. When I visit, I always have to bring a bag of their freshly roasted beans back to Hutto with me, and sometimes I make my girlfriend grab a bag when she comes to visit. My one piece of advice is to know that Friday mornings are always the busiest Monomyth will be. You may not even find a place to sit. Just be warned. Everyone I like in my life likes Monomyth. If you live in Lubbock, become a regular. If you're visiting, stop by. If you're neither, figure that out on your own time. RIYL: The best thing ever.

This is by far my favorite coffee shop in Lubbock. We stopped by Monomyth Coffee before heading out of town. When you arrive parking can be a bit difficult with some parking available on the street and also across broadway. Additionally, this coffee shop tends to be busy and it may be hard to find a seat. When you walk up to the coffee shop you'll see a converted house that has turned into the coffee shop. When you walk in you'll feel like you're in a friend's house having a cup of coffee. To order you'll want to approach the counter to order with the barista. I ordered the vanilla latte which was excellent and don't forget to ask for a ceramic for your coffee as the baristas are great at latte art. I can't say enough good things about this coffee shop. Definitely stop by if you are in the area.

Whether you are a local college student, a remote worker, or just a person in search of a good cup of Joe, Monomyth has something for you. Every drink I've tried has been excellent (special shout out to the Brown Butter Latte on the seasonal menu). While I normally skip pastries with coffee, but it's hard to say no when I'm here, especially to the gluten free muffins which are moist and delicious. Tip: if you want a table for working or studying, get there early. It gets busy fast!

very adorable barn house aesthetic cafe, great place to study gets really busy really fast the maple bar was dry and flat, but flavor wise was pretty good. the fall drink did taste like fall in a cup, but in a different way than i'm used to. it was still kind of milky and slightly savory overall would come just to study

Really cute and quiet coffee shop that is perfect for getting work done. I really loved how each section of the store was closed off and secluded. The coffee was good not great. If your looking for taste there is certainly better options, but if you just need a place to hang out and relax this is perfect!

In town for the weekend for my brothers graduation and wanted to check this place out. Their espresso is probably the best I've ever had and that's a bold statement coming from someone who's been to many coffee shops. I got an iced bourbon maple latte with whole milk and a hot chai latte! I highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the mood for great coffee and vibes!

Cutest coffee shop so close to the Tech campus! I would have absolutely loved having this as an option back when I was a student. The interior is cute and cozy - perfect for hanging out or getting work done. I also appreciated the quality of the espresso and the top-tier latte art. The espresso was not as much on the acidic side for my own preference, but I still could tell the beans were of high quality, and I still enjoyed my cup. Definitely worth a visit when in Lubbock.

Will always be my favorite coffee shop in Lubbock! The coffee is outstanding, and I love spending my time here. It's a cozy spot that's great for getting work done. While it does get busy, that just shows how loved this place is. Everyone who works here is so kind and consistently goes above and beyond my expectations when it comes to customer service.

Great vibes, quick service (during their morning rush), and happy conversation amongst customers. Always nice to visit a coffee house with a strong emphasis on quality coffee---not a thousand smoothies... and a place which avoids a mortuary-like silence. All in all a lovely place. read more

Love this cute coffee shop! Perfect little shop to grab some coffee and sit down and study if you're looking for something a little more authentic feeling than Starbucks. They also have tons of non-coffee options if you're not a coffee drinker. The people who work there are generally pretty helpful if you're unsure what to order and will explain some of their more extravagant coffee drinks/coffee making methods to you. Their food items are just as good as their coffee. I had some type of savory Squash pastry one morning that was AMAZING! Their sweet pastries are just as good as well. This place is worth sitting down to drink your coffee at as it will come out in a nice big ceramic mug with designs on top (depending on what you order) instead of a classic togo cup. Perfect for a coffee date or study session. read more

I've visited Lubbock twice now and always love finding little coffee shops to start my mornings before work. This is one of my favorite coffee shops to date that I've visited! I had a late with lavender simple syrup that was excellent. The sips were smooth and creamy without being too heavy. I was almost embarrassed at how fast I drank this cup. Rolled through for a latte to go this morning. The shop is bright and clean. I love the subway tile in the entry. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. My latte was delicious and almost the perfect temp. It could have been a tad warmer but the temp on this latte was so much better than it being too hot to drink. The foam was perfect. I also had a salted brown butter rice crispy treat. It was really really good too!! I will definitely stop here again. read more

I LOVE this coffee house! Not only do they offer great coffee and service, but the breakfast options are delicious! My absolute favorite is the avocado toast. You know it's good when my son with every bite is nodding his head the whole time he is eating it. The combination of creamy avocado topped with fresh arugula dressed in a spicy peppery vinaigrette with slices of pickled red onion. The combination just works. It's so delicious you just want to scarf it down but you don't because you can't stand the fact that soon after if would be gone. Yes, it's that good!! read more

While the coffee here was good, the service is what really stood out to me. We were staying nearby while visiting the area, and I came in early on a Saturday morning to enjoy coffee. Dewey, one of the baristas, was very welcoming and nice. After he had already prepared my coffee, I had to leave to pick up some family. I apologetically asked if he could pour my coffee into a to go cup, and he kindly made me a fresh one to go. When I returned a few minutes later with more people, he and the other barista were very nice to all of us. I also like the layout of the coffee shop. They have different areas of seating, not just one large open space like most places. Overall I had a great experience and would definitely return. read more

Probably one of the best in Lubbock. Great staff, good, strong coffee and wonderful atmosphere. The people were so nice, and for a newer shop, they were run really well. Went to a few other shops near the university, but this place had the best espresso beans and right method. Other places that were "hotspots" tasted burnt. read more

Become the hero of your own story. (That's the meaning, sort of, of the name.) Patronize a local business employing locals. Talk to friendly Texans who know their coffee craft. Buy a mug with their logo because you can call it Orion all you want, I see Sagittarius--MY archer. I travel the country and visit all sorts of coffee places, and this one is authentic, has character, and gives you a lovely latte (did not try regular coffee this time.) Wandered over from the Overton Hotel on foot. Nice walk from campus I'm sure. I tried the maple bourbon latte, it was lovely to look at with latte art, and lovely to drink with a nice balance, not too sweet and still espresso-forward. I asked, and all drinks come with at least two shots. They sell pastries which looked delish-next time. Crisp, clean white paint on all surfaces has refreshed this small home into a bright workspace. (I guess where it never snows, you cannot go too white!) There are numerous chairs and tables to accommodate many guests. I chose a seat at the window bar to watch the street traffic and was thrilled to find the former brick porch wall as my footrest! It appears they only have a single restroom, but it is gender-neutral, large and accessible, and has a changing table. So glad to see this sort of space in Lubbock. I'll be back next time I am in town. read more

Stopped in Lubbock for a break on a road trip from New Mexico back to Kansas City, wanted to get a coffee and wanted to find a local place instead of $tarbucks. Monomyth for the win! Do I really get the pleasure of writing the first review? Lucky me! I travel for work and my first go to search on Yelp is for local coffee. I ventured out today and found this adorable shop. I got a cold brew. They use beans from Cat Cloud coffee in Santa Cruz, CA. The cold brew was strong and smooth; just as it should be. The shop is so cute. It's in an old craftsman on Broadway, with lots of light and great design. You can tell that they've put a lot of research into a friendly layout with lots of space. It was busy with students and people enjoying their morning coffee. I didn't try any of the treats but was pleased to see that they have Dandelion Chocolate from San Francisco. Way to go, Monomyth. I will def come back on my next visit to Lubbock. read more

Coffe was ok for me I'm from Amarillo so I may be biased to the coffee shops there. The service was 5 out 5, but coffee flavor is a 3 out of 5 couldn't really taste my flavoring just tasted like a black coffee. read more

Love this place!! I don't get out much but found this spot two weeks ago and could not be more thankful. Seating is a little hard to find during busy hours but the atmosphere and location is amazing. Found my new favorite coffee shop for sure! The baristas are absolutely amazing and so kind!!! I'm not a huge coffee person besides my black coffee in the early morning hours so I got some help figuring out what to get and it did NOT disappoint (it was the Shake). Love how kind everyone is here and accepting, the place is a renovated home and it feels like it, without it being too comfortable to where you don't get anything done. Definitely recommend trying it out! P.S. they use paper straws so if you don't like those try to bring your own silicone or metal ones read more

What is going on Lubbock?? After having a horrible breakfast (See my review for Lubbock Breakfast House and Grill) my wife and I decided to get an afternoon coffee so we went to Yelp to find a good place here. With 53 five-star reviews, we decided Monomyth Coffee would get the nod. Upon arrival, we thought this was a very cute/quaint coffee shop that was a very clean and roomy place. We both got a Capuchino and a chocolate chip cookie. After about a 10-minute wait, the very nice server brought us our items. Much to our surprise, the Capuchinos were lukewarm, I mean, the tap hot water at my house is hotter! To make things worse, the beautiful cookies were rock-hard...how did this place get 53 perfect reviews?? Must have been an off weekend for Lubbock food establishments...oh well, we had a great visit with our grandson, who showed us around Texas Tech... which was amazing... Hopefully, our next visit will be better food-wise... read more

I really enjoyed the coffee, I got a santa's cookies latte hot (seasonal) and a cinnabun ice coffee. They are both pretty sweet and I preferred the cinnabun coffee more because it had better depth of coffee flavor. The service here is really nice and the bathroom is shared with a Mexican restaurant in the back. I camped out here to study for a good chunk of time and got a lot of work done. Would come back!

And then I ordered 2 pastries to go and a Rice Krispie treat also. I chose to go with a latte that had maple and cinnamon in it (sorry forgot the name) and went with almond milk. The milk they use truly is great it was creamy and made just right. Not a long wait. The whole cafe is set up super well, lots of spaces to meet up or to study. They were busy so finding a spot to part was the hardest part of the experience. Definitely will be going back again.

I liked how secluded He-Brews was from the rest of Lubbock, right in the heart of prairie dog town. It's hard to get distracted from studying if the only thing around you is dirt. I've been to He-Brews a handful of times since then, having nice conversations with a friend over coffee, getting some studying in when I needed a change of scenery, or last week when I decided to revisit He-Brews while in town. I think the space is cute and cozy. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. This time I ordered their Lavender Haze, a lavender and honey macchiato. I thought it was a little too milky compared to the espresso, and it lacked much nuance. It was fine and I finished it, but it really wasn't special. They also have a Christian radio station, KWBF, under the same roof. I have never once seen the station's broadcasters inside the studio while I'm in there, but it is cool to have it in one place. Because of this, you may hear Christian Contemporary Music playing inside He-Brews, which I don't think is inherently wrong, but it is maybe the worst non-secular music to exist, so be prepared with headphones to hear literally anything else. If the macchiato you order is inspiring you to go deeper in your faith, I'd recommend checking out Numero's Good God! Apocryphal Hymns for some much needed fellowship that actually has something to say past the three minute mark. I am not really sure why He-Brews needs to be so strongly associated with its religious method. Nothing about coffee is inherently Christian, but a lot of people deep in faith love to open a cafe. I really don't think opening a coffee shop as a Christian is even a bad thing. I think providing a place of comfort is a great mission to have as a follower of Christ. It's just that they don't advertise any fellowship or promote any charitable concepts. Instead, they have a WiFi password of John 3:16 and say they are inspiring growth. I want to buy it. I want to believe in it, but it all feels surface level. As I left, I noticed the massive load of campaign yard signs outside their building. Nothing says following Jesus Christ quite like endorsing candidates. It's like they realized how good a pun of He-Brews would be and everything else is just trying to make the name work. The staff was friendly and moved quickly even with a line on Friday morning. Prairie dog mounds exist on two sides of the building, so it's fun to see them. They are shy, so don't walk to them, but bring and throw some baby carrots out for them! The outdoor patio is huge with a beautiful view of the water and greenery. Parking is all dirt and gravel. If you need a drink to-go, make sure you tell them when ordering because they serve drinks in cute, non-disposable latte cups. I only gave 4 stars because the latte was delicious, but not sure it was the strongest. The He-Brews signature latte is delicious!

My boyfriend thought it was fine just too sweet so maybe it's just my personal preference. I actually liked the apple cider hot, but I wish they gave our drinks in mugs.

If you're looking for a coffee shop that puts love into every drop of coffee look no further. Monomyth Coffee provides excellent service, an excellent atmosphere, and even more excellent coffee! The atmosphere is beautiful with big windows capturing natural lighting. The service is as friendly as chick-fil-a, and out of the four drinks I've tried all have been amazing!
