I have gone to Monro over the years when I needed a plug put in my wheel. I needed it today and was in there and out of there in 20 mins. with no charge. I had the absolute worst car experience of my life at this place after bringing my car in for brakes. What I thought would be a simple job turned into several months of follow-up visits and being sent to the Honda dealership to fix their mistake since they couldn't figure it out. The business would often be closed during listed hours or they were short staffed and couldn't help without multiple workers. They did compensate me for the dealership charge, but even that didn't go smoothly as I had to contact HR myself which took weeks. I was offered a free oil change as well which caused more damage to my car and they tried to cover it up with a zip tie which broke within 24 hours. Attached is the full letter I worked to put together to the HR person I was in contact with regarding all the trouble this place caused us, which went completely ignored. While the person I spoke with from Monroe throughout the process was kind and tried to right their wrongs- the experience was just a complete disaster from start to finish and no customer should have to go through this-ever! read more

I am writing a review for my sister who had terrible service at Monro in Auburn, Ma. I am so upset for her and to be struggling financially in today's current economy and to pull together funds to fix a car to be able to get to work everyday to survive is something a lot of people can understand. My sister brought her car to Monro because her engine light was on and didn't drive normally and always felt like it was going to stall. She brought her car back numerous times after they claimed to "fix" it. First it was the catalytic converter, her car was overheating, AC stopped working, NOW after dishing out $2,000 her engine light is still on after over a month of trying to fix it. And she needed a tow the other day trying to drive to work- and once again had to miss work and miss a paycheck because of Monro's poor service and the inability to fix the car. IF in fact you couldn't troubleshoot the problem, be a decent person and just say you can't fix it and refer her elsewhere. But no, they took her $2,000 and left her with a non drivable car. My sister feels hopeless and broke and now carless and doesn't know how to move forward from this even after calling corporate to try and get a refund. I figured if I went to a nationally known chain, I wouldn't have to play the silly games many independent mechanics play ... and a national chain might stand behind their products. Not so here. I got my oil changed here, which I will say is a pretty good deal compared to Jiffy Lube. It was $29.95 for oil change and tire rotation, which is a pretty damn good price! Of course, my car's engine is a little larger so they hit me for an extra charge of $10 for the 'extra' oil it uses, which amounts to 1 extra quart. I don't believe this included an oil filter replacement. After the oil change and tire rotation, the guy mentions that during the 'free diagnostic' he discovered that my front brakes need replacing, which is odd because my car has 14,000 miles on it. He says he will do me a favour by not replacing the calipers, only the pads. Gee, thanks! He did not show me the pads and the wear but instead used his fingers to indicate my brake pads were basically worn down to nothing. I ask him how long I can go with it like that as I am thinking about trading it in soon ... and he says that he wouldn't dare drive the car even a week with pads that low. So, at this point I don't even know how to look at the pads to verify this and agree to change them. He tells me it will be almost $400 for the pads and the oil change. I pay and am sent on my way with the typical smile they give you post-mechanic-servicing-coitus. A few weeks later, I have a problem with one of my tires and head to a mechanic I know closer to home. As he has my car up on the lift, I mention that I just had the brakes done in the front. He says, "At only 14,000 miles?" and proceeds to check the back brakes. He says that front brakes do wear a little quicker than the back ones but that the back brake pads look better than than fine. He said he doubts the front ones were worn down to almost nothing if the back ones looked so fresh. He asked me if I asked to see the pads after they were removed. I said no ... and he kind of laughed and shook his head. He also said the pads they used were super cheap and that he would never put pads like that on a car as they will wear out super fast. All in all, I know the games mechanics can play when it comes to upselling services but this all sounds very strange to me. I won't go back there again unless it's to get my oil changed for their special deal ... and when they tell me that something is drastically wrong during their 'free diagnostic' after the oil change, I will get a second opinion before agreeing to any work. read more

Pulled in 45min before closing for an oil change. The clerk told me it would have to be full synthetic, i agreed, but no prices were declared. When it was done, 15-20 minutes later i asked if they rotated the tires in that time, this is adverrised as free with full synthetic oil change, it was not done... The bill, 114$?! The clerk took 10$ upon my disapproval, which I thanked him for. 104$ oil change and u skipped all the "free" inspections!? My boyfriend had work done here in 2019 and they did a terrible job on his car and didn't fix the problem. In fact, it made random noises that were not there prior. When he went to try to rectify it the employee he dealt with (he was either the manager or owner) and he got all defensive and started yelling at him. So obviously things got heated and my bf was raising his voice as well. My bf was upset - He paid A LOT of money to not have them fix his car. So the employee called the police and when they got there he made stuff up to them. He was definitely racist as were the Auburn police who refused to hear what my bf had to say and just take what the employee had to say. Had him pinned to the ground and was told he can't go there ever again. He's never been in trouble with the cops or arrested (other than the racial profiling that cops do) So he had to take his car somewhere else to get it fixed and pay even MORE money when they could have just fixed it and stood by their work. Scam artists! They overcharge, treat customers like dirt, are racist AND most importantly mess up your car! This place is the best! I'm not exaggerating! Typically I would not even consider Monro or Meineke type places to fix my car. I was desperate on Saturday of Labor Day weekend. I was traveling with my son back to Westfield State University for his sophomore year. I was traveling from Cape Cod to Westfield with car full of crap! Believe it or not the gas tank fell off my son's 2007 Crown Victoria at the first service plaza after rte 495. My son was flipping out he was moving into an apartment and he needed his car. The likelihood of getting this car fixed before mid week was slim. I called five places....either they were closed for the weekend or closing shortly. I called Blake the manager of Monroe Muffler/Brake from the tow truck as I was cruising down the Pike with the Crown Vic on the flatbed! Blake said he would do his best to fix the car....but made no promises he could get it completed on Saturday. We arrived at 3pm in Auburn. Blake looked at my car. Quoted me a very fair price and fixed my car and I was on the road at 5pm! This guy is the best! I was in a bad spot and he really helped me out. Please give this guy a call if you need any service on your car or truck. If I lived closer to Auburn he would be servicing my families four vehicles. read more

The service was good but they put a sticker in upper left of windshield written in black magic marker with the mileage it was at when they did the oil change. The writing is barely legible and then I have to guess at what mileage I need the next oil change. Jiffy lube has a legible sticker that says at what mileage you need to change the oil. All things being equal I would choose Jiffy Lube just for that reason. read more

Stopped by this place on a whim as they were one of the few shops still open on a late Saturday afternoon and I had a nail in one of my tires. Jake got my car in within minutes and had my tire fixed not long after that. I was only there for maybe 15 minutes before they had me rolling again and they didn't even charge me for the service. My family and I all used Monro and were very happy with the service until the management changed a few years ago. They last time we used Monro, they did not replace the oil they removed during an oil change. The car broke down a mile down the road. We checked the oil, and called Monro to tell them they did not replace the oil, only drained it. They denied it, stating they just put "the wrong oil" in the car. The manager promised to get in contact with me and " make it right". She never called, despite my follow up. Unless they have revamped their management team and retrained their staff, I would stay away. read more

Stay away from Monroe on Southbridge St. in Auburn, MA. It has been a nightmare dealing with them. $4,000.00 of damage was done to my husbands car on 7/19/19. Roland the manager was too busy to return calls. As of 8/9/19 my husbands car has not been fixed. I wanted to reimbursed to a beach pass $25.00 that is on my husbands car so I can go to the beach this weekend. I feel that is the lest Monroe can do for us. I spoke to assistant manager Dave (refused to give last name) who,was less than helpful. Roland the manager is "busy". At this point it is not worth going after the $25.00. The car rental place they had us go to has limited hours. Please stay away from them. I would HATE to see anyone else go through what we have gone through. read more

I have had several good service appointments there. Oil changes, breaks, tires. I think they have always done a good job. I had exhaust problems with my Subaru, and Bob said that when I had to fix it it may run close to $1600, so maybe a good time to trade the car in... I have had a couple of problems where the plastic was coming off the bottom front bumper, and another time when my heat shield came loose and they had to re-attach it and both times they did it no charge. I suggest make an appointment for service as they get busy. read more

The local shop keeps telling me it will be in the mail next week and the corporate office will not return my calls. I guess I paid for the same repair twice. Went for a brake and suspension assessment. They recommended north of 2 grand in repairs to brakes and suspension. (They said I needed rear brakes, front struts/sway bar)) I took the car to another mechanic who I had heard good things about, and he said I needed only one caliper, but I needed roaters/pads on both back breaks and I actually needed pads on my front breaks too, because they were about to touch metal. I'm getting the job done somewhere else for 600 rather than the grand+ it would've cost for the sway bar and brakes. I have my breaks checked pretty regularly, and last time I came for an assessment, they said my brakes were fine, but a few months later they say I need my brake system completely redone . I get the sneaky suspicion that I probably could have used new pads on the rear the first time I got it checked, and was told they were fine so that I would wear out roaters and calipers too and then come back for a much more expensive break job. Obviously, there's no way for me to prove this is the case now. My brake fluid started leaking out of my caliper only a week after my first assessment. But regardless if that's what they did or not, the fact that this is a viable suspicion is a problem. If you want to trust your mechanic, do not go here for literally anything. Oil changes, go to a Valvoline, repairs go to a local shop. Avoid this place like the plague is my recommendation. Will not be coming back. read more

I have been going to this location for several years now. Though the management has changed the service still seems to be good. They are forthright in speaking with you about any issues and are willing to work with you depending on the situation. When one of my calipers stuck they honored the warranty on the pads and rotors and only charged me for the labor and the calipers. I did go to them for exhaust work and wasn't pleased (hence the 4 star) with their recommendation and went to another repair shop that fixed the issues quickly. read more

We were driving through Indiana on our way back to Canada, when our oil light came on. We pulled into Monro Muffler in Auburn IN and explained our situation. The two individuals we dealt with were fantastic, one was the Manager Mark Shadbolt, unfortunately I didn't get the name of the other employee. The were very understanding and got us in almost immediately and changed the oil plus doing some checks. We were on our way in a very short time. Pretty sure I was charged wrongfully. I failed first inspection due to 2 bad tires. I paid for the inspection. Was told it would be another $10 when I get new tires and bring it back. Honestly I've never had to pay more for a re inspection, and I've been to SEVERAL places for inspections over the last 20 years! But whatever! I come back 5 days later, with new tires...car passed inspection I'm told " it will be $10, oh wait, I mean $21" Then all of a sudden the computer freezes and I'm asked to just leave him the cash. Honestly my stupidity for handing it over with no question asked and no receipt given! But I'd like to warn anyone else who is thinking of going here for an inspection because I'm positive I was ripped off! If they needed my $21 so bad then more power to them. The customer service here is outstanding! Not only is the staff friendly and courteous, but honest and trustworthy. They gave my car an extensive and thorough diagnostic work up. When they couldn't repair my issue, they gave me a prompt referral. The issue with my car was a unique one, and although they spent more time with it than planned they didn't over bill me for it. I brought my vehicle in to have 4 tires mounted, balanced, an alignment and oil change done. The mechanic came into the waiting room flipping out and swearing about having to do an alignment for my vehicle. Let's just say all 4 tires weren't balanced properly and alignment was never done which I paid for so I had to bring it to another shop to have the same work done and pay again for it. I used to love Monro, but I will never use them again. I came up to MASS for a job interview and my headlight burnt out. Fortunately, since I was out of state they told me they would use a part that I bought at Autozone. The staff was pleasant, and so was the lady taking the calls. However, my boyfriend and I watched as the staff was doing the headlights-an hour later and $100 poorer, we received the car. The bumper needed to be removed to put the headlights in, but it should not have taken an hour or have been $100. Seriously taken advantage of. If the mechanics would have done the work straightforward I would have been out of the shop in 15 minutes max. I will never recommend this place or step foot in there again. read more

As a retired mechanic and manager of mechanics, I know a thing or two about tires, balancing, balancing equipment, and mechanics. This place was listed as being equipped with a Hunter Road Force Balancing machine so I stopped in get a quote on balancing my new tires. I got a look at the guy who greeted me before I went inside and he proved my opinion within a minute after I stepped inside. As soon as I asked if they had a road force balancer, he "rapid fire" told me they didn't, what did I know about them - and without waiting for an answer, said they're only used by dealerships for warranty purposes, I shouldn't need that kind of balancing, why did I think I needed that kind of balance? That was enough for me. Anything I said would have been contradicted. I wouldn't trust a guy like that to open the hood of my lawn mower. I thanked him and walked out. read more

To update, I had filled out the survey at Monro.com and explained what I explained here. I received a call from the district manager from Springfield, MA asking me to give him details. I did. He proceeded to convince me to return for a second chance to reinspect my car. Come to find out my brakes were indeed bad including the shoes AND the drums in the rear. After the initial shock of how I'm going to pay for this I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they were actually going to take care of the bill due to the inconvenience of coming back. Wow, that was so unexpected. I have to say, they redeemed themselves. Thank you Robert, Keith and Angel. read more

Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this location. The garage I normally go to was closed for the weekend when my car started making a horrible grinding sound. So, I dropped it off at Monro. A few hours later, Kathy called me and said it would be $900 to replace my rear brake pads, rotors, and calipers. When I refused to pay that price, she continued calling me each time with a lower (and lower) price quote. The final offer was close to $300 dollars. A $600 price drop for the same parts and labor?? Seems a little shady to me. There's no way I was going to let them "fix" my car. Monday morning, I brought my car to the garage I normally go to and he fixed it for $350 in no time at all. One star for this location because that's the lowest you can give and because Kathy at least pretends like they aren't trying to scam you. read more

I am writing about the Auburn, IN location for Monro Muffler. My 18- year-old, college bound, son needed new rear shocks on his car. He had taken it to another very well- respected repair facility in the area, but they could not get the car in on time before leaving for college. That facility quoted him $250, Monro quoted him $243 and a lifetime warranty AND could get it in on Saturday, this was Thursday. He dropped the car off on Thursday evening and Saturday received a call that the part was $20 more, so the quote is now $263. Ok. The car did not get finished on Saturday as quoted. Monday comes and my son calls to check on the status and they said that there is way more work than originally anticipated and that the other repair shop that quoted him $250 just didn't know what they were talking about and he was now told it would be, "in the $300's." Quite unprofessional to change a quote mid-job, but he needed the car fixed before heading to college. He has since found out that his move in to college had been pushed back. Finally, Tuesday he gets a call about noon to say the car is done. He goes to pick it up and was told his total was $468! Absolutely taking advantage of a college student trying to get fixed up before heading 2 hours away to college. His dad did stop in and read them the riot act for charging him almost double the quote without prior approval to continue working on the car, they told him to not return to their location. My son pays his bill and then leaves. The car is making a noise so bad that he had to take it back right away. They then tell him that the control arm needs replaced and that they couldn't get the part, but if he got the part, they would replace it for him. They knew that the car was leaving the facility with faulty parts and made no mention to my son when paying his very large bill, they sent my 18 year old son out of the facility with a broken car, still. We had someone else just look at the car, in which he said that Monro had broken a bolt which he replaced for us and then said that the shocks were loose and not tightened down properly which was causing the noise. Again, my son took it back to Monro and left with a list of items (rear lower control arms left and right, rear stabilizer links x 2, rear upper latteral arms left and right, rear inners and outer tie rod ends, rear lower trailing arm bushings, front outer tie rod end driver) that apparently now all need replaced costing $1500 or more and that they didn't even want to do the work. We took it to another reputable repair facility in the area and they said the shocks needed tightened. We now have two other facilities telling us that the workmanship done at your facility was sub-par and we still have a vehicle that is not road worthy after paying $468 for a bill that was quoted at $243. This whole fiasco is such blatant poor workmanship and unprofessionalism. At this point, with so many trips back to this facility, I don't even feel like they can fix the problem they have created, but I don't feel that I should pay another facility to fix your work. I cannot believe that any facility would take advantage of anyone, especially during these uncertain times. I am absolutely floored that the amount of times that my son has been to this facility and still hasn't gotten a correct answer. We have decided that we cannot trust this facility and are paying to have another company fix their mistake. I wouldn't recommend Monro Muffler in Auburn IN to my worst enemy. This place is horrible and unprofessional. Their main goal is to charge as much as possible no matter the consequence. The final result was to take the car to another facility, they diagnosed with shocks that were not tightened down properly. We had to pay them $150 to fix Monro's mess up, that they over charged for in the first place. The car is fixed and runs and sounds like new! read more
