I recently went there like a month ago and had some work done to my car and only to get scammed out of money by one of the guys upfront. me knowing better I should've got a receipt and didn't even get a receipt. I should've known it was a scam when a guy didn't give me no receipt and me being trusting I believe he did the work come to find out a couple of days later my check light comes back on and I'm still having the same issues I was having before so I completely got scanned out of $800 then gave me one price then when I went into the store, he gave me another. Complete scumbags. My wife went there for an oil change and just to have them look over her car to see if it needed anything else. They gave her a diagnostic printout saying it needed all this work done and that her transmission line was leaking . Long story short, she didn't have a leak till she took it there. Took it to a local mechanic who went thru the car and there was nothing wrong with the transmission line and the other things they found. The leak was coming from the oil pan which they never tightened. I guess it worked out in our favor for we found a new honest mechanic thanks to Monroes scumbag ways. My wife had a hole in the muffler by the manifold on her 2003 Subaru. Should of been a quick repair. Instead they SOLD her a complete muffler system and converter. Over $1,000! Hell duct tape would of worked better. Avoid at all costs. read more

PLEASE READ - SCAM in JOHNSTON Went to MONROE Auto Service & Tire Center on 1400 Atwood Ave Johnston, RI for a State Inspection. He told me that I needed all four brakes and rotors cost around $950. I said that's too expensive. He said you can do the back brakes for around $450 because they are only going to last about a week. Then you can come back in about a month to do the front. I left there and had my brother take off the tires. The front brakes had about 3/4 of pads left and the back tires had 1/2 the pads left and all 4 rotor were smooth. read more

Worse customer service and experience ever. Walked in for my 9:00 am oil change appointment. The manager was at the desk on the computer and it took him almost 5 minutes for him to look at me and another 10 minutes to ask me why I was standing there. Been there twice and both times I received the same attitude and crummy service. I thought the first time was because it was a 9 am appointment on a Sunday and the manager did not have his coffee yet. The second time when I was not even acknowledged was the topper on the cake. STAY AWAY..... WORST SERVICE Went in 1st time on Saturday March 30 2018. Said they were booked for the day which is understandable due to a holiday weekend. They then had an open spot on Monday April 2nd at 11am and I confirmed it should not take more than an hour. I get here 5 minutes before time, the front desk person advised I would need to check in and to have a seat real quick while he checks the other guy out. I sit there for 10 minutes and nothing (other guys has already been checked out and left). Comes in another person and says he also has an 11am appointment, the clerk/manager takes his keys and has him sit while completely ignoring me. This Monro has always been very convenient and friendly to me. The main guy, Ray, is cheerful and is always willing to lend advice and suggestions without making me feel pressured. I love the coupons and promotions they have on their website. Totally makes coming here worth it. I've used them for repairs but mostly I go here for tire balancing and rotations, oil changes and flushes. I use the one in Warwick as well. To they guy complaining that they sold his wife a "complete muffler system". If you were looking for someone to patch up your muffler you should've gone to a MUFFLER SHOP. This place won't weld things together for you. That's a specialty. And frankly, the best procedure for a muffler with a hole in it is to replace the whole dang thing as I'm sure it's likely to have another one soon or is failing thanks to this New England weather. read more

stripped/destroyed one of my lugs ( nut and bolt) so badly that I need to have it replaced. Did not tell me. I only noticed when I went to put my snow tires on a few weeks later. They were all done with my oil change and tire rotation, all they had to do was put my wheels back on, should have took 5 mins. 30 mins go by, and they come out and tell me it took so long because they were trying to find the reset button for my maintenance light on the dash. That does not take a half hour so I was confused (if that was really the case then they would have just asked me where it was). Then when i put my snow tires on a couple weeks later I realized the reason they took so long is because they destroyed my bolt and nut. never going back . read more

Looking for an honest mechanic? This place has them! Been taking my cars (new and old) there for years. Ray runs a great ship and I've never had any issues with any of the service. Some places try to up sell you to synthetics etc, not here. Love this place and would recommend anyone to go there for their normal wear and tear repairs. read more

If I could rate this place lower I would. Back in April I had my winter tires switched over to summer tires and all new brakes. Fast forward four months and I'm back in the shop with terribly grinding brakes and they tell me that now my calipers are sticking and my brand new pads and rotors are shot. I went to another garage to see what was happening and get a second opinion, so glad I did! What happened was neglect, the calipers were sticking from the beginning and Monroe failed to check that and now I'm out hundreds of dollars and I was put in an incredibly dangerous situation because of how bad my rotors became. Not only this but they ruined my hub caps due to more negligence and just simply not looking where the tire valve was and completely warped the hub caps. read more

Dropped my car off at 12:15pm for a 12:30 oil appointment change. Called at 2pm to ask if it was almost done. I was told I was the next one in. Currently sitting in the waiting room at 3pm still waiting for my car. When I asked why it was taking so long the guy responded with "oh well you said you were dropping it off" .... I made an appointment to get my emissions test and after I drove an hour to the location, the person at the desk ignored me first for a good 20 minutes and then finally told me that they can't do emissions tests today and he doesn't know why the person on the phone scheduled me. I have been going here about 6 or 7 years. Inspection stickers turned out to be my gateway drug. Next thing you know we were into oil changes and brake repairs, but it didn't stop there. Oh, no. This stuff is not cheap. I started fixing my own car when labor was $30 an hour. Bob is always sympathetic when he hands me the bill. I also have to honor his refusal to do a quick fix rather than fixing right, even when I can't afford to do it right. One thing I have never had to do is go back and say the job was unsatisfactory. I used to enjoy doing business with this venue, that was when Ray was working at the front desk. This last time I patronized this business, John was not helpful and would not answer questions. He comes across like the perfect stereotypical useless public sector employee. I would recommend if you need services done on your car find another venue and by pass this venue until they get staffing that knows how to communicate with employees. Made an appointment online for a simple tire repair (takes about 15 min). Drove to this location during my day off to get this done quick. Presented my coupon that I got off the website and the guy acted baffled by this coupon. Mind you, this is after waiting about 5-10 minutes to even be greeted. Apparently they confirmed my appointment but then changed it to 3/2, never called or anything. They refused to help!!! My car hit a bump in the road and became very loud so I took it to Monro because it was the closest to my work. They said my catalytic converter needed replaced. They quoted me $720 for the part. I called around and found them for less than $300. I told them that and their response was "Well thats wholesale price, we can't get that price". Right then I knew they were lying, they regularly buy from local parts stores, and usually get the commercial price which is cheaper than what I was quoted. I decided to take my car to Hartford muffler, where they correctly diagnosed that only the oxygen sensor flange on the catalytic converter was damaged. Monro had no interest in fixing the specific problem, they wanted to charge me for the whole thing. I eventually had it fixed for $150, and Hartford said my catalytic converter didn't need to be replaced, just the flange. This is my second experience with Monro in Rhode Island where they tried to sell me additional parts that were 5x the cost. read more
