This place is VERY SHADY. I am a 30 year old single female who doesn't know much about cars and unfortunately mechanics prey on people like me and I need to be careful. I'm not one to write reviews but I felt it was absolutely necessary this time. Ed is in charge of the shop and I spoke to him many times and it always felt like he was just trying to rush off the phone or just convince me to get more repairs so they could make more money. He uses fear tactics as well as high pressure sales tactics to convince customers to spend more money. I took my car here because it would not start. They told me that I needed to get my engine replaced because one of my piston rings was worn and leaking oil into combustion chamber. They told me it would be $6,789 to fix. I took it to a new mechanic to get a second opinion. The new mechanic told me that my car was fine and that I just flooded the engine and to make sure I warm up my car for at least 10 min before driving but otherwise it was fine and I can come pick it up. Needless to say I will no longer be going to Monro Auto and I suggest you do the same. read more

SAUGERTIES-I have warranty from them on my rear brakes. They need replacing. Verified by another business. They are warranty under Monroe. But unless I buy a rotor/rotors for the rear brakes that are under warranty, And a brake line hose, ( that has been verified that it is fine and do not need new) Saugerties/they will not honor their warranty for the brakes. Trying to sell me something I don't need which I had verified at another dealership that I recommend "stage one". They verified what I believed that I did not need the routers nor a brake line. My lines are fine! Trying to sum me something I don't need. An older woman, and to think I'm an idiot is insulting. And to not honor a warranty. Because they want to try and sell me something else at no less double the money than what I am paying elsewhere they lost a Customer. Don't believe them when they tell you you need something, double check as you would and shared with everything. And their price was double. $800 for front brakes and rotors. Really?? She left, upset and then when I was up he let me get my vehicle inspected on the spot, no appointment. I've always thought he was bad for business and a loser but this confirmed it. Definitely discourage going to Monro. We went in for a inspection which easily should have passed and they stated something with the parking break. and quoted over $550 to pass. It is insane as passed no problem, I personally went also same situation a couple years back, I guess we were trying to be optimistic. I was told by another mechanic that they will fail you if you have a fly on your window! DO NOT go here for inspections as you are taking a chance. read more

I gave it a 1 star review because 0 isn't an option. I brought my car in for a NY State inspection the car was in the shop for hours. I got told the vehicle needed brakes & rotors, which was a lie as they were done within the last month. After that I was told "The car failed the E-Brake Test", which is them putting the E-Brake on and holding the car at 1,500 RPMS and expecting it not to move. When I told them this didn't make any sense, the car makes a lot of Torque and can easily move itself with the E-Brake on and threes no way this test is done to all cars as they all weigh different and have different levels of power. I was told "The Cable could be lose, the mechanic would inspect it and correct it for a fee"....I agreed because I was there. 15 minutes later I get told that both the calipers were no good. Which wasn't true as the brakes functioned perfectly fine and they couldn't provide me with an answer as to why both calipers would became damaged. As soon as I left my car wasn't accelerating properly, it felt sluggish and a burning smell developed. I immediately drove it to my mechanic a few miles away. He diagnosed the smell as brake pads, when he inspected further he found the calipers and the E-Brake Levers were mangled and jammed into the on position and the E-Brake cable wasn't attached securely, clearly this was broken on purpose or from pulling up too far on the lever during their test. The conclusion was the E-brake cable was tampered with or broke by the technician and in their attempt to cover / repair their mistakes they placed an object on the lever(s) and struck it, jamming it into the on position. On my bill this was noted as "Brake Labor". I contacted the local shop and let them know what happened, they were extremely rude and responded by telling me "when your calipers are broken and need replacement, the E-Brake will stay on and there's nothing that can be done besides paying them in total close to 1,000 dollars to repair the car". My mechanic repaired the car for almost half of their quote, I contacted their corporate office and they forwarded me to Travelers insurance to file a claim, they will not look into the matter any further, even after I provided documentation and my mechanic offered to speak with them to provide further details. So I'm left to spend thousands to sue them in court or just eat the cost of the damage. When I did some research reading reviews, I find nearly the identical thing took place to another customer last year. read more

My car passed inspection at another station but I asked about the front right brake squeaking, they didn't know why. Took it to Monro, Kingston , NY and they looked at it cleaned the brakes and pad and it went away. He explained it could be moisture, weather, humidity. Didn't charge me. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE! At the beginning of March, I took my brand new car here for tire replacements and an alignment. When I first arrived, I was ignored while the employees stood around the desk and ate their lunch. I had an appointment for the time I arrived, so having to wait while they ate their lunch was inappropriate. After they were done mounting the tires, an employee backed my car out of the garage. He backed straight into a parked car and damaged both my rear bumper, and the parked cars front bumper. As if that wasn't enough, he did not apologize, and the employees/manager continued to ignore me for another 45 minutes while they finished the alignment. When going to cash out, I was charged the full amount and the manager stated that he filed an insurance claim and I'd be getting a call from their insurance company. One month later, I hadn't received a call, so I called the insurance company only to find out that a claim was never even filed. Having your car damaged is one thing, but not receiving an apology, insurance claim, and flat out being ignored is just poor customer service. I will never take my vehicle here again, and I recommend you do not either. read more

I feel so swindled by these guys. I had my oil change done this week. Full synthetic because I put A LOT of miles on my car (2 years old). They talked me into changing the air filter also. I spent almost $100. 2 days later my low oil light goes on. Hmm weird, right? I checked the dipstick & wouldn't you know it, NO OIL. What'd I spend money on, air?! To stare at my engine? If I hadn't checked & my engine seized, would they have replaced it? Doubtful! Do I even have an air filter?! Moral of the story is DONT GO HERE! read more

DO NOT COME HERE. my boyfriend brought his 350z here, they said it needed a front rack, bring it back tomorrow night and we'll do it in the morning. my boyfriend drove by the lot at 9 am and noticed it was in the finished lot and he called to ask if his car was finished. they lied and said his car was currently on the lift....absolutely disgusting. these people get paid $65 an hour in labor fees and they said it wouldn't be finished until 12 pm. this was over $1000 worth of work and they did a power steering fluid change but they forgot a cap or something because the car is leaking the fluid straight out and smoking. this so called mechanic shop gave our car more problems. i don't know how this place stays open. read more

They are extremely unpleasant to deal with. They tried to make the mistake they made seem like it was my fault. I checked my vehicle afterwards and all of the services I paid for were not even done! I will never go back there. The customer in front of me had issues where the charges were wrong and they made it seem like it was such an inconvenience for them. Same thing with me. DO NOT GO TO MONRO I had my car towed there in the winter of 2018 when it died. I told them a veterans charity agreed to pay for the work. They told me for a long time, maybe weeks that they'd work on it and wouldn't do the work. I had to ask the veterans organization to pay for the work before it was even done to get them to just START working on the car. They replaced the alternator and battery. 9 months later in August 2019 the car dies again. They say the alternator was defective and replaced it free of charge. They electrical work is off and the lighting in the dials wasn't working right after that last work and I just decided to never go back there again. Fast forward to today, MY CAR IS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY DEAD. Again. It's my battery this time. BATTERIES ARE SUPPOSED TO LAST FOR MORE THAN 2 YEARS. Maybe even my alternator (AGAIN). The alternator is only 1 year a 2 months old. Monro said it's no longer under warranty. Monro puts trash parts in your car and makes you pay prices of quality parts. Just like everyone is saying it's bad customer service, crap work and terrible parts! You're better off going to WALMART! read more

I went for an oil change in October 2014. They kindly told me I required over 2,000 dollars worth of service. I "needed" all brakes replaced, new struts, serpentine belt. I declined. I have driven my car everyday since then (it's May 2015) and just recently had an inspection at another Monro location in PA. My car passed inspection and they told me I would need my front brakes replaced soon. read more

Total rip off. Went there for a oil change and to get my belt changed. They charged me 130$ for a hour which it didn't even take and 103$ for the belt and belts are only 30$ at best. Didn't have to wait long but would not recommend. read more

Brought my Jeep in for a death wobble complaint. Paid nearly $700 for parts that did NOT need replacing, vehicle still has a wobble on occasion and today the jeep front right side locks up when I brake after they replaced rotors and brake pads. I have nothing but praise for the dedication of the management and employees at Monro tire. I am from out of state and arrived at noon on Saturday with a badly bent tie rod. The manager called the parts guy who could not deliver at that time. As he saw that I could not drive the car and get back to Boston, he called the Monro center in Poughkeepsie and had them pick up the part there. He than drove 40 min from Kingston to Poughkeepsie to pick up the part himself. My car was repaired by 5:00 that day. Huge thanks! Without this above and beyond service, I would have had to rent a car, drive it to Boston and pick my car up the following week. read more

If you need an oil change or brakes, you probably won't do too badly here. But if you need anything more extensive, I would advise you to go elsewhere. They recently quoted me a job based on how much time their "manual" said it should take. In this case, I needed my brake lines repaired, which they said would take over 3 hours. As it turned out, it took only an hour and a half. Yippee! I happily assumed that meant I would be paying less. Now wait just a moment -- don't get yer hopes up. Somehow, I still had to pay the exact same amount they quoted me, which in this case was $400. Huh?? $400 for an hour and a half's worth of work? They explained that $150 was for "parts," and went on to explain that I needed an abundance of brake line. Okay . . . so they didn't actually say an abundance. What they said was 30 feet. I needed 30 feet of brake line. A small fortune! Now from what I've heard, brake line is extremely inexpensive. Curious (and understandably somewhat furious), I paid a visit to my regular mechanic the next day. He pulled out a roll of 25 feet of brake line and showed it to me. He said it cost $25 for the roll. Now I'm no math whiz, but my calculations tell me that comes out to $1 a foot. So how much could 30 feet of brake line possibly be? At Monro, it apparently cost $150. Their outrageous labor charge is $100 an hour. A brake flush is another $100 on top of that. Go to your own mechanic. Stay far away from this place. Don't say I didn't warn you. read more

I went last week for an on the spot oil change, walked in and there were 5 guys standing around and they said they couldn't do it right then and there, that I would have to make an appointment and wait 45 minutes. on april 19 brought my car in because of a thunking noise on the drivers side front of the car a 2008 chevrolet Impala the mechanic put the car on the lift and told me it needed all kinds of work 2 to 3 hrs later they called and said the car was done i picked up the car and in my 2 block drive home noticed the noise was still there . i went back to my home and brought my wife back with me . The mechanic came out i told him the car was still making the noise he raised the hood looked around and pointed out the top strut mount was broken and probably the cause of the noise we were told to get the part and they would put it in free of charge because they missed the problem the first time . we returned to the shop with the part and now they have a loss of memory after spending $2600. and not making the proper repair we feel completely used and scammed i will never use them again read more

The staff is always friendly and by making an appointment I can get in and out quickly and know that my car will be good to go for another 3000 miles. TIRES ALMOST FELL OFF - THANKS MONRO KINGSTON. If your experience is like mine, they could kill you - will not accept responsibility - then will be 'sorry, not sorry' - and offer you peanuts off something you can buy much cheaper elsewhere. I went in November 2014 to have winter tires put on my car. They took my all-seasons off, realized they ordered the wrong size, and put my old tires back on. I drove about 4 miles but the car was so noisy that I pulled over to check the tires. One had metal shavings in the hub cap and I could easily turn the lug nuts with my hand. They sent out a mechanic to tighten the nuts (which he did - a lot). Back at the location they showed me the front left tire and said the tire was loose because of rust, not because the mechanic did anything wrong. First, this sounds bogus - were it true, it would happen ALL THE TIME to all sorts of cars. Second, it was the rear right tire - not the left front - that I could loosen with my hand. I confirmed that the front left was ALSO loose. I could have been seriously injured - or God forbid have hurt someone else - because of their incompetence. Were they sorry? Nope. They did offer me $15 off the winter tires, which I found for $55 cheaper at a different store - one that didn't almost kill me. read more

Part of the problem is me. I kept giving them a chance to redeem themselves. Every time I would take any of my vehicles there they would always try to upsell me on things that were not needed. From new brakes, struts, rotors, anything additional. You can not simply walk in to get an oil change as they are always "too busy" at that time. The final straw that broke the camels back was when I called early in the day to actually schedule an oil change appointment for later that day. I scheduled my busy day around their appointment and when I showed up, ten minutes early, they told me my appointment was 2 hours earlier. As I approached the shop, I noticed all the bays were open and empty. I insisted my appointment was made for the time I was there. They said no it wasn't, I'll need to reschedule. I asked if they could squeeze in me now since I was there. Nope, you'll have to make an appointment. Monro of Kingston, you won't see me again as you have proven yourselves to be terrible at service in a town that has many alternatives. read more

Sal and Russ at Monroe Muffler were committed to getting to the proper fix and my gmc is now running better than it ever has. I never had such inconsiderate service at any repair shop. I went in because of a $100 (+10% shop fee) coupon for a one-axle brake job. They immediately removed the wheels and saw that the assembly was so corroded and rusted shut, they would have to replace the drums as well. They (the older guy, but working with the younger redhead guy) also explained that depending on the condition, they might have to replace the wheel cylinders as well. The guy said "it'll run you 3, 350". I reluctantly accepted that and said fine, it has to be done. When I checked back later (on my own accord) he confirmed that indeed, since one of the cylinders was visibly leaking and the other one looked similarly corroded, he would replace the wheel cylinders. Then I spent at least an hour waiting, while my car was on the lift, but no one was working on it... apparently they were waiting for the parts to be delivered, though no one told me. Then I took a walk for about a half hour, and came back to find them finishing up the job. When I went to pay, imagine my surprise when the younger guy told me, "That'll be $600." Apparently, almost doubling the price they told me earlier was not something they thought needed to be confirmed with me beforehand! I was fuming, while the guy kept rationalizing that "additional parts will incur additional charges." Yes, but that's why you're supposed to communicate these things to the customer. I have no sympathy for mechanics that charge $104/hour... Not to mention charging LIST PRICE for all parts, which of course they're not paying... Even retail, I found their $90 brake shoes for $15, their $180 brake drums for $80, and their $80 wheel cylinders for $28. (I also work in an installation business, and we charge MSRP for all parts - if we charged list, we'd never get hired!) Finally, after 20 minutes of arguing and waiting, I managed to get an apology out of the guy... and he lowered the price a mere 50 bucks.
