Another customer hey tried to rip off for $2000.00 went In for and inspection and tried to get my friend for breaks, rotors and calipers. Keep in mind these cars are smart and they will let you know when something is wrong . They actually charged the person for an inspection and made the car fail. Person got in the car w no inspection and went somewhere else. Went to a reputable place and car passed inspection MAVIS IS DESPERATE TO RAKE PEOPLE THROUGH THE COALS . I was visiting the area with my young children for a long weekend. My first day on the mountain my truck broke down, bad, on the mountain roads. Brakes seized up, and started smoking. It was late morning, on a Saturday, and I figured my options were not looking good, for ready and staffed mechanics. I was able to manage a tow from STOKES to this shop and explained the issue the best I could (not being a mechanic my self) we dropped my truck off before heading out of town to pick up a rental, and these guys had it on a lift and had a couple guys taking a the wheels off to diagnose the issue before I could even situate a ride to the rental shop. The service from Dave & Steve was top notch. They went above and beyond to provide me with the best assurances possible. The got me back on the road and I was able to return my rental and make the 4 hour drive (through the city) safely. A really great, honest, and hard working group of guys! I had an appointment to replace back brakes and rotors because they said I failed inspection. I called them a few days before my appointment to see if I could use the online coupon for $140 off brake service. I was told yes and that the total would be around $440-$450. Then when I dropped off my car to do the brake job I asked AGAIN to make sure the coupon would be applied as I am on a tight budget. I was told yes again. Then, after dropping it off, a few hours later I got a call saying they couldn't apply the coupon!!!! I had no choice but to let them do it as I was leaving town the next day and needed it done to pass the inspection. Not long after that I got a call saying that when they were checking out my car , they noticed I needed back brakes and rotors!!! I freaked out and said that's what I made the appointment for to begin with!! Whoever I spoke to said they were sorry and that they called the wrong person and that my car was ready for pickup. When I got there 15 min later, my car was still on the lift and I had to wait another 20 minutes! I have been coming there for over 8yrs and it seems after Nick left, the place has taken a crap. I am honestly wondering if I even needed the brake job at all! It ended up costing me around $580.... I would love a $140 credit because I was told twice I could use it, but I honestly will never go back there again. read more

Never order tires there, they cheat their customers, they say they will deliver the next day, make an appointment for you, then call back and say there was a mistake, your order will be in a few days and so on a couple more times, while asking for a deposit of 25 dollars, I am very disappointed with this service, do not cheat people. read more

I brought in some garden tractor tires to be mounted. When i came back end of day as instucted the guys were finishing up. They we friendly and answered a bunch of questions about salvaging one punctured tire and were generally kind and patient at the end of a long day. When I went to settle up they just said no charge and wished me a good day. Hard to fault that kind of generousity. thanks guys. read more

I read the one and two star reviews and wonder if it's same place I been going for over 20 years for brakes, tires, rotors and flat fixes , alignments. They always quoted me before they did work. Always done right. Pretty fast too. Inspections too ! Kerhonkson is best one in area. I hope to continue to do business with them. They were fair! I had a few Benz's. Been a customer for 16 years but the only went in for tire rebalance n oil change and tire rotation. My issue is I have is them trying to tell me that I will have break failure if I done repair the issue. That would cost over $200 . Tried to get me for an antifreeze flush and struts . Guess what ? I had all that done? I took my car somewhere else for the break issue and was told car was in great shape . These guys (mavis) should know better then to try to sell me something I don't need because I've been there done that and the guy behind the counter didn't know me from a hole in the wall. My advice is that if u need tires or front end work or oil change (truly) go there. They make their money selling replacement parts not repairs. My advice is to go to an independent repair shop who u trust and please don't insult my intelligence because I know my car . My mechanic charged me nothing and all he wanted from me was home made cookies. If you live in the Ellenville my area , I will give you the name of this brilliant mechanic! Thinking about it, my now 22 year old car didn't need struts in 2016 but it did have front end issues which they did address. What a bummer. We were quoted one price and at the end of the day it was almost double. At that point the tires are on and they have your keys. Looking at the website I saw they offer a discount for first responders/essential workers I called and asked if I could send in my credentials for a rebate and was told next time. Well there will not be one. I will go elsewhere and I suggest you do the same. read more

I have been going to this mavis location when it was STS even before it became Mavis. Nick has been there for the whole time excess 25 years. In that time Nick Has ALWAYS taken care of things. They are Not perfect,however NICK has always made it right. Some past assistant managers/desk people have been less then optimum and are now gone! Nick has always resolved the issue and is ALWAYS Honest and up front. We found this tire center by accident, after being disappointed by the Mavis Tire in Gardiner, who when we called them while broken down on the NY Thruway, told us they had a tire available, then called us back when we were almost there and told us they DIDN'T have a tire for us. We were trying to get back to the NY Thruway northbound, without retracing our fruitless steps through the Mohonk Preserve and New Paltz, when we came across the Mavis Tire in Kerhonkson, completely by accident. We took a chance, pulled in, and were taken care of quite nicely! We pulled out with two brand new trailer tires, our spare back on the mount, and very nice customer service. These guys are the absolute worst. Do not go here! They lie and charge for work that was not done! Went to get a tire patched and they talked me into a new tire claiming it was unfixable, which I might have believed. I went out when my car was finished and realized that though I asked for my tires to be rotated and they charged me for it, it was not done! When I confronted the manager he gave me a story about how they couldn't get that tire off so they did the other 3. He refunded me 12 bucks and gave me serious attitude about it. I got the tire off just fine myself at home. At this point I am not even sure they did the oil change I paid for. They dumped my spare in the trunk instead of back in the holder for it, oh and my tire pressure light is still on so good chance they broke the sensor! read more

My car was towed there on a Saturday and I was told by Nick that it required an alternator. He gave me an estimate of $300-400. The following day Nick was off. When the car was fixed I got a call from Dave who told me the charge was $583. That is a huge increase! He also said it was 2 hours labor which is much longer than it should take - it only has 3 bolts to remove and a belt tension bolt to adjust. Two hours? Still, what choice did I have - I was suckered in and had no recourse. I will never go back to any Mavis center. read more

Came in there for something as simple as an alignment and to change two tires and not only did they up sell me for other things I did not ask for but re-set the trip mileage on my odometer (which I use to track for when my car needs an oil change). The job was supposed to start at 8am and end at 9:15am but all these guys do is talk talk talk and leave your car up in the air with no work getting done on it. My wife and I were excited to see them take our car after 30 minutes of being there, thinking we would get out at the time previously mentioned, but after AN HOUR LATER, the manager, Steve, called us aside to show us what was wrong with the vehicle and what needed to be replaced. Now mind you, we only came in to replace 2 tires and get an alignment which cost about $278. After he mentioned the various things we needed to address, we surrendered and paid $649.34. I believe this is ridiculous because he tries to use sale tactics to get you to spend money that you DONT HAVE or that you probably was intending to use on SOMETHING ELSE. Anyways, after the job was done, we had been there for 2.5 hrs, which is WAY longer than the time we were told would've been spent on the car. After we got in the car and prepared to drive off, we saw that the trip mileage on the odometer was reset, so I went back in to inquire about this issue. He was surprised that I was upset about this and mentioned it was "protocol" even though I never requested my trip to be reset. I had just gotten an oil the change week prior, so I had already begun tracking the new mileage the vehicle has accumulated to prepare for a new oil change. He nervously recommended that he would give me a free oil change for my car to substitute for the error, but I DO NOT NEED AN OIL CHANGE, since I just recently got one! We also wouldn't have minded the gesture, but my wife and I will no longer reside in New York so the offer would've been pointless once the oil actually needs to be changed. To add insult to injury, he tried bribing me to give him a 10-star review on the survey, which would in turn give me a free oil change for ANY VEHICLE I own, since my current vehicle didn't need an oil change. I refuse to be bribed since that goes against my character and I would prefer to warn people of the potential danger they would be getting into if they choose to do business with this company. Word of advice to Mavis Tires: stop trying to sell things to people and forcing them to do all these extra things that they DID NOT COME IN FOR. Stop asking people to give you guys all 10's and then saying "you'll get a discount on this" or "next oil change is free" read more

My wife just came home from having our car inspected. "Jeremy" led my wife to believe that if she didn't have a brake system flush that her brakes could fail on the way home. While I expect an upsell when going to these places I think his actions are unethical and he took advantage of her. He also got her to agree to a power steering flush. I have purchased all my tires for 2 cars over the last few years at this location but I'll now think twice about doing that. I hope the $180 in upsell is worth the loss of my future tire purchases. read more

I made an appointment at another location and called this one to switch my appointment over to their shop. They reassured me over the phone that my tires would arrive by my appointment time. The tires didn't arrive and I had no appointment when I arrived. The manager was great at figuring out what happened, fit me in and recommended a set of alternate tires. That being said...they could not get my alignment right and told me something must be bent. They left dirty finger prints on the inside of my door as well as leaving my rims filthy. I'm not picky but I've got white rims and would have appreciated a couple minutes to wipe them down a little. My car handled very poorly after they attempted to adjust the alignment so I immediately went to the dealer the next day. Luckily I did because there was nothing wrong with the car and they were able to get it aligned. They also needed to re-balance a tire. When I told Mavis they told me that the dealer has more specialized equipment to do my alignment probably, that they never wipe rims down because it takes too much time, and denied their attempt to do an alignment took my car out of alignment more. My specs from the dealer prove it when compared. I'll never go here again. Update: so the call center is the office that messed up scheduling, had misinformation regarding stick and availability times. So misleading info from the call center makes the locations seem incompetent. read more
