Backstory: It was in the 5pm hour when I started making the rounds to see if any auto shop in the area could do an inspection for me. (Two year old car- nothing difficult.) I was turned away by every single place. "We're closed" some said, "the mechanics went home already" another one said (an hour before closing! Really?!) Finally Monro was my last stop. He couldn't do it then, BUT, he offered to make me an appointment! Four shops turned me away and this was the first one to actually attempt to keep my business! Fast forward to appointment day: I got there on time, they took my car back. I sat in the waiting room. The show "Naked and Afraid" was on... that was awkward. Not the best option for a waiting room, but then again I was the only one there at the time so... not as uncomfortable as it could've been. My car was done before I knew it. Maybe 15-20 minutes. I had a coupon, he redeemed it, I paid, he handed over the keys, and off I went. Easy peasy! This place is a no-frills, no-drama, in-and-out shop. Went in for a $21 inspection, left with a $222 bill to replace a brake light and license plate light in order to pass. The work took all of 5 minutes to swap out the old bulbs, the labor fees are wild here. But the thing that bothered me the most was when I asked the guy "hey is it normal that I'm having to replace bulbs in my Subaru constantly? I'm not even getting a year out of each bulb"... a genuine question I was asking as I don't know how often people typically need to replace burnt out bulbs. This guy spoke to me like I was a total idiot and said "well they're just lightbulbs... and you hit bumps don't ya?" Crazy response. My bulbs are burning out fast because I hit bumps? Come on. I've never had this issue in any car I've driven so was honestly wondering if something is wrong or if that was normal. Everyone I've asked since says it doesn't seem normal in the slightest. So I'm not sure if this guy just assumed I was stupid, or if he spoke to me that way because I'm a woman or what, but I'll definitely be taking my business elsewhere and regret not reading some reviews in the first place because it seems most customers are unhappy as well read more

All I can say is trust the reviews written here. I unfortunately did not, and took my vehicle for service here. Got my rear brake pads incorrectly replaced, in addition to a missing parking brake plug. Brought it to my dealership when I heard a weird squeak when driving around. They found the inners on the outer, and the outer on the inners. Called this place to only be given a corporate number to make the complaint and file for a refund. They don't care about you or your car. It's a chain business, so no one will get fired for a bad job. Just don't take your car here unless you have time for inconvenience and stupidity. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I brought my car into the Lockport NY location and I was told everything was damaged and not salvagable. I was quoted 4,453.00 and the man at the counter told me my car was in great shape and the investment would be worth it. Mind you my car is a 2013 equinox with 150,000 miles on it. They looked at for 5 min wired it up after I asked them to and charged me $43.00. On my way out he gave me his card and said if I ever consider selling it he would be very interested. I took it to Muffler Man on Delaware Ave and they said most everything was salvegable and charged me $698.00. Saved me thousands. I'm so glad there are honest places out there. Hard to find good customer courtesy. I went to this location at 5pm because the closing time said 6pm. when walking in everyone was standing around talking doing absolutely nothing with no cars in the garage. I went in to ask if they can put some tires on the guy behind the counter said no only because they close in a half hour which would have been 5:30 though the closing sign says 6pm on Saturdays. I literally only needed tires to be put on which only would have took a half hour to 45mins. Very sad and unfortunate to not be able to find good help out in Lockport. read more

This place is a scam. My girlfriend and I both brought our cars here for inspections and both of our cars are in great working order. My girlfriend needed her license plate bulbs removed which ballooned her bill to over $200. For light bulbs. My car had brakes and rotors done in the last few months and he told me they will pass inspection but in about a week I'm going to need them replaced and hit me with a $700 estimate. Been taking my vehicle here for a couple years now. I've had some pretty good experiences. When I have to take in my car, I never end up having to wait long. Very speedy and efficient work flow. Recently, I took my car in for an inspection. I showed up early, they took my car in, and had it out and passed within less than 30 minutes. Never had been ripped off here. All repairs or fixes have been shown to me physically (I.e my blown shocks). And no service is ever recommended that is not needed. Prices here do tend to be a bit steep. Though, for the speed and capability of the current team, I believe that it is well worth it. I recommend this establishment. read more

I did an appointment online for a set of tires and a mount and balance, a nys inspection and that's it. when I got my bill, there was plenty of things on the bill when I got home that were not authorized. Place is a total scam and a ripoff. They scam people on the parts brought my car in to have a emergency brake cable put on told them that I had the part all they had to do was put it on told me they can't do that that the part has to be bought from them well here's what they do they go to the parts store get the part at what they get a discount on which is below retail because they are a repair shop. Now the part they got only cost them $10 but charged me $86 and $170 an hour for labor in which took them a total of 20 minutes to put on!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I unfortunately had to come here a few weeks ago due to pothole damage... Yeah, I know, shocking for Lockport, right? Anyway, my tire was useless and I knew my alignment was messed up. Growing up, my dad was always in some aspect of the auto part industry, so I do know enough to know when I am getting jerked around by auto shops. Surprisingly, these guys were pretty awesome. I told them what was wrong with the car, they took care of the problems - NOT anything extra - and I believe I was charged a fair price. Granted, I did get the parts from an outside source... but they explained everything to me professionally and not like I was some girl who knew nothing (which happens a LOT to me). I received the utmost of...Professionalism, courtesy, and empathy by the manager when I desperately was trying to get a tire repaired. I realized this on a Friday night and no one could help me. I was recommended to go to Walmart on Saturday morning. I did go and and there was a three hour wait! I drove by Monro and pulled in to see if they could do the work. Long story short, they helped me, telling me they would get me a new tire ASAP, because the puncture was In an unrepairable spot. Once they lifted the vehicle and checked the tire, they removed the screw, which hadn't actually punctured the tire. Ended up I didn't need a new tire. They removed the screw and I was good to go! I cried when I thought I would have to purchase a new $200 tire and I cried walking out the door, being reminded that there are good people in the world, who don't take advantage of you, when they could. Our car was leaking antifreeze and Monroe was the only place that had time to look at it. Turns out we needed a new water pump they told us to come back the next day and they would have it ready for us. It was very pricey almost $500 but I would rather take it to a real place than some "mechanic" doing work from his garage. They were super nice and gave us a call when the car was ready. They were super quick in fixing it and even though they were pricey i'd probably take it there again. Monroe also lets you apply for a credit card. You can apply at the store or online and they give you a response within 24 hours. I dont have one but if you have a car that breaks down often then its something you might want to look into. read more

I have never written a yelp review before. In fact I literally just downloaded this. I'm truly so confused as to how someone can be treated this way. I took my car in two weeks ago bc I i was driving and my car just got loud out of nowhere and the check engine light came on. I was told I needed my whole exhaust system replaced and then also added o2 sensors. All and all it came to 3,300. I was told this would fix everything and needed to be done. Ofcourse I had to pay that. I'm willing to pay whatever I need to to have my car fixed properly. I brought it in on a Monday he said it would take 2 days for the parts to come in and we should have it back on Thursday. Again, frustrating to not have my car for 4 days but that's not their fault, so I'm ok with it. It was done early, Wednesday afternoon, so I was grateful. We picked it up it's quiet and the check engine light is back off. So, my 3000 seemed worth it. 3 days later my check engine light came back on and it sounds a little louder. I call he says you can do something (my bf did it) and it should go off if not, bring it in everything's covered under warranty, so we'll take care of it. Ok so it goes off then 4 days later back on. My bf takes it in the manager Chris tells him we need to pay 150 to see what's wrong with it. I just paid over 3000 a week ago why would I pay anything? Why couldn't he just check it out? He refused, I was so confused. Like I never had the check engine light on before obviously it's related! We take it to another place , he puts it on the lift and sees immediately, some bolts they put in were loose and it ruined the gasket. So he tightened them (so we wouldn't damage our car further) but explained we would have to take it back to Monroe since they did it. We took it back and they refused to do anything saying the bolts aren't loose. ( ofcourse not, the other mechanic already tightened them, for free I might add). I'm writing all this bc this is plain black and white to me. I'm baffled by the way Chris the manager spoke to my bf . Just refusing to even see what's wrong or help in anyway. We don't have a lot of money and 3000 is a lot to just throw away if the problem isn't fixed and to be without a car is frustrating on top of it. I'm just so confused as to what to do , they promised to fix our car , we paid and our car isn't fixed. I just want ppl to be careful going here, really make sure you know what they're doing and promising. They overcharged all the parts bc they said that's what we needed. And now we're just stuck. It's really disheartening and I just don't want anyone else have this happen to them. I will absolutely never take my car here again and regret not doing more research about this place. read more

Do not go there, period. Went in for a simple oil change and tire rotation. They must have spilled oil on the undercarriage and now it is all over my driveway. I have no idea what they did with the tires but now I have to go to Honda to get the warning light re-set. I took my car for inspection. They charged me, failed me and sent me away with a bill of "needed" repairs. I took it to another shop. They inspected it, passed it and let me know that Monroe is "known" for the horrible "service". Be very wary of them. They are in it for the repair bill and will scare you into spending money. Took my car in for an oil change and tire rotation. Told the service manager one of my tires was low on air and ask to check it out. They rotated the tires, told me I needed 4 new tires and while they were at it, noticed I needed all new brakes and rotors. Told me my rotors were trashed at this point and was risking an accident. Also told me my Fuel Injection system was filthy and costing me money. 1) All new brakes and rotors 399.00 2) 4 New tires 600.00 3) Fuel Injection service 129.95 What they did not do was check the low tire or reset the TPMS. I took my car to the Chevy dealer and asked them to check it out. I did not need rotors, tires, or a fuel injection service and the tech told me to stay clear of Monroe as this is fairly normal practice of them. I had the dealer replace all 4 pads, fix my tire and reset the TMPS for 199.00. A far cry from the scam artist at Monroe. read more

Went to Monroe for an inspection for my daughters car, they had four people around and took off all 4 tires. The car passed without a problem last year and was only driven 2-3000 miles since while she is at school. They came back with a laundry list of over-priced items that needed to be done, including $20 for one break light bulb (which I replace for $3 myself after). When I questioned some of the items being needed for inspection, I was told they were thorough. If you want an honest mechanic this is not the place, they will try to over-sell you on things you don't need. I had to pay for a failed inspection and will never set foot in there again. They may be thorough but they won't get repeat business. read more

Highly recommend to everyone as they are one of, if not, the MOST trustworthy, comfortable, and friendly shops that I have ever been to. I absolutely love the Monro Lockport location. They make me feel like family and that I am always welcome at their location. I know that if something goes wrong with my car I can swing by and get an honest opinion on what the repairs are, without them trying to up-sell me. I am confident and trusting in their services and will continue to use them as long as I can. I greatly appreciate the efforts they take to educate me about my vehicle, they let me ask all the questions I want without ever making me feel like it was stupid to ask. One time they showed me the difference between my front and back brake pads to help illustrate the repair needed and educate me about what further damage could happen if I did not replace the brake pads. They are also very understanding about the status of their customers. For me, I am a college student and money is tight, so they will help me understand what the repair is, why it is needed, and help me prioritize which needs to be done first, and what can wait a couple months. Finally, they have been the only place willing to do certain repairs on my car (including fixing my driver's seat when the frame broke), and I am grateful that they are able to keep my vehicle up and running.
