Called yesterday to get my brakes looked at (and replaced) and an oil change. I got it all fixed and back home within 24hrs. Everyone was respectful, from the techs that told me where to park, to reception, and then Bob. As a woman in her 20's, I've had some unpleasant auto shop trips where they have lied or tried to upsell me. This shop did none of that. We have been like " groupies of "Bob" following from him from several different shops over the last 25 or so years, until he settled at this building . because he has always been honest, fair and caring! He will not upsell you anything, just what you need to keep you car running safe! It it needs something he'll tell you if it doesn't he'll tell you! We walk in there with an idea of what we need and get no surprises ,most of the time, I don't panic oh my what will they find. One time my Volvo needed an alternator , he could not find the part through his normal channels so he called the dealer acted as the owner talked to the service department about it, drilled them about the alternator cost and got a price from the dealer. He then looked into the labor involved and told me the labor was so intense he didn't feel , even if he could find an alternator that he could beat them and advised me to go to the dealer, talk about extra effort and honesty!! all the people there are good! Was referred to King's through the Volunteer Fire family in the area. The referral could not be more dead on. Tough to find a straight shooting and honest mechanic and thats what you have at King's. Worked with Bob and he helped to diagnose my problem that 2 other mechanics I took my car too couldn't. Let's face it, auto work is EXPENSIVE....so with that grain of salt in mind. I was referred by a friend who had gone here for many years. He said they were fair and very honest. I brought in my Jeep for tire rotatation, coolant leak, radiator flush and heater concerns. They charged me $20. Said coolant and heater problem caused by petcock cap missing off radiator (could have said bad radiator, bad heater core, etc and charged $1000). Had my inspection and oil change done here. It worked out okay. They had to change my two front brake pads, which cost about $120 (+40 for oil change + inspection). I wasn't a huge fan of the huge up-charge on the actual brake pads (parts). They charged me $60 for them when you can find them for $23 at an auto parts store. When I asked if I could buy them at an auto parts store and have them install it, they refused saying something like "you wouldn't buy a drink at McDonald's and have Burger King refill it for you, would you?" At the same time, they happily installed tires that people brought elsewhere, so I'm not quite sure why they drew such a hard line with me. Most auto garages I've worked with in the past will happily install a radiator for you or other parts if you bring them a part for your car. I understand that it's a business and it needs to make money, but a 400% margin on parts is a bit high. Even at an auto parts store, they make a nice profit selling a pair of pads for $23, so I feel being charged $60 for a pair of brake pads is a bit ridiculous...not to mention being charged a hefty labor fee on a pretty simple job. All in all, it was an OK experience. It's not that I wouldn't recommend them - they did seem pretty honest, but they didn't go above and beyond and were not interested in helping me save a little money. read more

The owner was extremely kind and checked out issues with my car for free which I am so thankful for because I did not want my dealership screwing me over, but they were limited on what they repair here, especially more high-tech vehicles. DO NOT take your car there. They gave me a quote of approximately $600 to $700 last week; I took my car in this morning and when I picked it up they charged me $1100. He said some crap about not knowing how much the parts would cost. I I asked him why he didn't look up the prices on his computer beforehand, he didn't really answer. I said he should have called me first before he started the work for that much extra, I probably would have said no or gotten a second opinion. He wouldn't even give me a discount when I told him I was calling the Better Business Bureau and posting on Yelp. I know the Lancaster Police get their cars service there, so maybe they figure they'll screw the little guy. .do not trust them, they lie about the condition of your car and fail your car if it needs inspection. i called up to make a appointment 1 month prior to my inspection was due. i told them my car was getting a evape and thermostat code errors. they had me come in a week later and wait for a couple hours til they looked at it (why did i have to wait hours if i had appointment???) they then told me i have a evape and thermostat error code coming up and i have to come back next week ( dah i knew that already, i would just like to know what is causing them so i can fix it myself if posible) a week later i took it back and they told me the problem was a bad thermostat and a bad sensor wire giving me the evape code but i have to leave the car with them all week with an open estimate because they didn't know how much they would have to take apart to find the bad wire/connection. at that point my inspection was about to expire in a week (ok , i figured $100-$200 for the thermostat and hopefully about the same for the evape issue. wrong they found the bad wire right away coming off the first sensor they checked and charged me $68 for the pig tail plug and $80 labor, but what really pissed me off was being charged $389 for the thermostat replacement, that lasted less than 5k miles so i just did it myself this time. it was so easy. 4 easy to get to bolts, 1 electronic connector and 1 hose clamp right at the top front of my engine and instead of paying another $258 for thermostat i bought a better one for $33.99 online thru a1 auto wow they marked up the price 700% and then raped me on the labor too. i was done in 25 minutes.) read more

I have been going to King's for about a year now. I want to write a review to let people know of the honest service I recently received. I was on a long trip to Chicago when I started to hear noises from my steering wheel being turned. I took it to a shop in that area and was told I needed nearly $1200 worth of work done to fix the control arms, and ball joints. I was not able to do that and was told I could still drive it home. When I returned to Buffalo, I took it to King's where Bob took good care of me. After a few times driving it, and two close inspections in that area, there was actually no problems with the control arms or ball joints, and all it was was a loose wheel weight that was hitting against the same area. He fixed it and was happy to explain the problem. I was not charged for the time it took! That made my week to hear the news, and felt even more at ease knowing that they took the time and did not give me any BS.
