So I often turn to this place quite enough over the years from reliability and established trustworthiness. The professionals over here display that upon their hectic schedule for above and beyond customer satisfaction. Especially, Owen S. and mostly for my experience his emissions guy, whose name I don't quite recall, are the cool guys that handle all my issues. I've gone to them with car battery issues in the past, or even nails in my tires problems. No matter the busy footwork that the other customers are their priority too; they have still kept me at the top of their importance to efficiently take care of my urgent and upmost needs on the subject at hand. Once again, It is always a pleasure arriving and leaving with relying on them and the trust between their work and results. Took my mother's car in because I had just been out on some gravel roads and was having some engine vibration in reverse. Ethan, their manager, told me I needed 4 motor mounts and the cost would be between $1200 and $2000. I doubted this and took the car to an actual mechanic - not one who learned to change oil during a 15 minute computer training. Mechanic tells me there is a rock stuck between the center engine mount and the car. $80 bucks and it's fixed. Monro tried to rip off a senior citizen. Here we are in the midst of a pandemic, everyone is short on cash, and my mother, 75, on a very fixed income, was almost ripped off by Monro. Today, my speedometer reminded me that I've driven yet another 3,000 miles and demanded an oil change. Monro is one of the closest ones to my school, so I stop in. Of course, they pull the whole "You're a girl, so I'm going to try to sell you some services that you don't really need." (The best part was all the stuff the guy tried to tell me needed fixing, he didn't even bother to list on the bill which leads me to believe he was trying to make a sale on the fly and he didn't want it documented!) I know there are mixed reviews about having your car serviced at places like Monro, in general. I definitely feel that the quality of care varies by store location and the individual management and commitment of the crew who work at each place. When the water pump on my scion xd starting failing, I initially took it to the Monro on perkiomen ave. The manager there told me that he couldn't fix it and needed to go back to the dealer. The toyota dealer wanted to lift out the engine and take up to several days to get it done, not to mention a $1600 bill to go along with it. Instead, I took it to Jim at the 5th street highway store for a second opinion who immediately set about getting it in order. Jim had no trouble finding parts and knew exactly what tricks to use to get inside the tight confines of the scion xd engine. Jim and his crew managed to replace the water pump, change the timing belt and do a coolant flush all in mere 4 hours, without having to lift out the engine. I ended up owing a lot less because of it. I think that Jim is an experienced mechanic and has a general sense of empathy for the average joe. He is thorough and honest about what your car needs but also tries to help you cut your budget if he can. If you live near Reading, Pa and are going to take your car to Monro, take it to the Monro on 5th street highway. read more

DO NOT COME HERE. I will preface this by saying that up until today, I have had all my maintenance done here for the last two years but I will never return. Sunday: I dropped my car off early, as I usually do, so that way if they have time they can work on it early(and if they don't it's no big deal). My appointment was for brakes and an oil change. When I was dropping my car off, the guy checking me in was clueless. He seemed baffled that I wanted both brakes and oil serviced and what should have taken 5 minutes or less to check in, took almost 20. I should have listened to my instincts and left at this point, but seeing as how I had to drive to Baltimore later in the week, I really didn't have any other choice. I received a voicemail at 4:53 that day that told me that my car was not finished and if I needed it I needed to call back by 5 to let them know if I needed it that night or first thing the next day. I called back right at 5 and no one was there. Monday: I had to borrow my husbands car, who thankfully didn't work and was willing/able to put off all his plans for the day so I could use his car. I called Monro back after getting another voicemail. This is when I was informed that neither brakes nor oil had been changed, so I guess Sunday was just a wash. I was then informed that the drain plug for the oil pan was stripped. The only people that could have stripped the drain plug was them. I informed them that my husband would call and check in as he was going to try to get the car. He called and was told the car would be done by 2. I then received a call at 11:30 that said the car wouldn't be done until 5. I relayed the info about the delayed pickup to my husband and he made arrangements to have someone else take him at that time. He showed up at 5 and the car STILL wasn't done. No one had called to let us know or provide any updates so both people trying to pick up the car wasted their time as well trying to get it. He was told the shop would fix it that night and it would be ready as soon as they opened. I received a voicemail saying that they were "trying alternative methods because they had snapped the drain plug off in the oil pan". But of course the voicemail came after hours and when I called back, there was no answer. Tuesday: I had to call off of work because I didn't have a car to drive and I couldn't borrow my husbands. So I had to call the shop (around 8am) , because again, they failed to provide any updates. I was told over the phone that the drain plug was stripped and they couldn't get it out. I asked for the real problem because I found it very difficult to believe that any professional shop would have this much trouble removing a plug (stripped or not, it shouldn't be the first time they've ever encountered it). I was told that on top of obviously needing a new drain plug, they needed to pull the oil pan which also involves dropping the whole exhaust to get to it. I stressed again and again that my car NEEDED to be done by the end of the day and that I wanted to be updated because this was ridiculous. And needless to say, I didn't trust the people who are now removing my exhaust to complete my oil change. We called sometime between 5 and 6pm and at this point my husband gave them his information because I had that obligation (that I needed my car for and then had to find other means). He was told then that the car would be done around 8pm. Surprise, surprise 8 o'clock came and went and no one called. We called the shop repeatedly to no avail. Although I had stressed I needed my car back and that they should be providing updates at this point (because 3 days in an auto-shop is absurd and at this point I needed to be informed about what was going on). Wednesday: I had to call off work for the second day in a row for my 4 day long oil change. We called at 7:30am and was told that the technician couldn't lift the exhaust up so they had to wait until the morning for assistance. At this point in time the said "all we have to do is put the splash guard back up, it should be around 20 minutes". They called back around 8:30 to say it was done. We arrived at the shop around 9:45 and my car was STILL ON THE LIFT. Apparently they smelled some burning oil and were checking it out, sure enough they never called to say anything so we had to wait, yet again. It was a total of 71 hours from the time I dropped my car off to when I got the keys back. No rental car was offered and the shop couldn't even bother to call and provide updates before closing. They didn't seem bothered by the fact that I have now had to take off work two days in a row, which were obviously completely unscheduled. We still had a very large bill for the brakes and rotors, which you would think that after they caused me to sacrifice worked hours, that they would have comped it. I now have to try to find another mechanic to lift my vehicle to make sure that everything is in order. read more

Terrible. Facility didn't have filter even though their systems said that they did. On top of that, the oil cap was never put back on and oil therefore splattered everywhere over the engine bay and under the hood. Cap for windshield fluid was also never put back on. DO NOT GO HERE unless you want your vehicle screwed up! read more

I've been here many times before but since I've started til now, the place has gone down. The service was OK. Somehow they got oil on the interior of my car, therefore I will not recommend this place! That should never happen. Too much carelessness in my opinion. read more

I went here to get my tire changed. I had a fairly new tire in my trunk, but it was in great condition, so all I needed was for them to change it. I checked the tire right before going to make sure it was good. After about 10 minutes of them 'changing my tire' one of the mechanics calls me back and tells me the tire is not good. He points out a huge slash in my tire, stating that I need a new one. This slash was pretty big and very hard to miss, so I most definitely would have seen it during the multiple occasions when I check my tire. Only thing is, I didn't take any pictures or anything so I didn't have any concrete evidence that they damaged it. However, I am certain that they slashed my tire to make me buy a new one. Not to mention they charged me wayyyyy more than anywhere else would have ($160 just for ONE tire for a 2009 chevy malibu). Very sketchy and wish I never went here. Save your time and go to an actual dealership, where they would screw your car up and tell you to pay more for things you don't need. read more

The day after Easter Sunday I took my car in to check the brakes as it sounded as though the front driver's side pads wore out. They told me I had to get my rotors changed (these rotors were just a year old). I accepted it as the additional cost wasn't astronomical. Later that day I pick up my car and drive back home in New York. I barely made it home. It sounded like something was loose near the area of the brakes. I took it to a mechanic in New York only to find out it the mechanics at Monroe didn't correctly tighten 2 screws! OK - well YELP's software doesn't think my first review was relevant to viewers - but, then again, the software doesn't incur car repair bills due to the actions of service mechanics.... Anyway, it is only fair that I follow-up with the company's response to my review/problem. Monro's customer service reps contacted me and discussed the issues. They agreed to reimburse the cost of the repairs at an agreed upon dollar amount, upon my submission of a copy of the invoice I received from my mechanic. I thank the company for their response, and interest in resolving the problem when I couldn't make any headway with the local Monro shop. My recommendation to all, though....... request that the technician HAND TIGHTEN the lug nuts on your car with a torque wrench instead of using the automatic impact air wrench. read more

I've taken my vehicle at this shop to serve as a second opinion and have been always happy about the service at Monro. Recently however, they have been pushing for sales and they have implied that the vehicle needed "Necessary flushes". My vehicle's dealerships have advised that these flushes are not recommended and can ruin an engine or other part in the vehicle. Be educated and always ask the mechanic for the old part. You'd be surprised how many "Services are unnecessary". read more

I've been going here for years for a second vehicle I use for backup to my primary car. This car is not driven too much each year, 2 to 4 thousand miles. Last year, for inspection, they got me for a tie rod and an alignment which they said was needed with the tie rod, total ~$450.00. I had my suspicions about this tie rod as I remembered getting one done somewhere else but wasn't sure if it was the same side so I let it go. And with the alignment, my perfectly straight steering wheel has been off center since, even after going back twice. This is called incompetence. This year they said I needed front brakes (said brakes were at 1 and 3) and new brake hoses, about $500 total. Thinking this might be a scam, I left, just having to pay for an emissions test, about $35. The first place I went to, Firestone in downtown Reading, said my front brakes were at 4 and 5, nowhere needing replacement! They also said the brake hoses were fine. My inspection at Firestone was $29!!! I will never, ever, go to this Monro again. It appears they select just enough things to say you need so you'll fix them; too little, they don't make anything, too much, you'll go somewhere else or junk the car. read more
