Food was alright. Buffalo Wings total fail! Extremely high sodium and not edible. Very disappointed.

For a diner, it's really good diner food. I love their mozzarella sticks (I'm a sucker for good mozz stix) and their fries are great. Usually decently crowded, but I've never had a wait. Staff is nice. Only downside is it's a bit pricey considering it's a diner, but then again, welcome to Fairfield county. read more

I am reviewing Monroe Diner again because the service and quality of the food is exceptional, every time. We are always seated immediately which is good because usually if a diner is chosen, we are usually in a bit of a hangry rush. Hubby got his usual breakfast items du jour, and this time I tried this fabulous spinach melt on pita in which I used mozzarella cheese and added avocado. I treated myself to a side of French fries and a Sam Adams. I swear there was a whole avocado on this sandwich. Absolutely delicious!!! I think the food came out in less than 10 minutes, and it was a super busy Sunday! Bravo to Monroe Diner for always being awesome!!! We will most definitely be back, again and again!!! read more

My favorite diner in the monroe general area. Their corned beef hash the best I've had.

Love their gyro and feta omelet (with spinach, served with tzatsiki sauce on the side). The challah French toast topped with fresh strawberries is awesome. We also really enjoy their eggs Benedict and crab cake eggs Benedict. read more

I was extremely pleased that Monroe had a diner once again, and was looking forward to trying it out. We had Gyros for lunch, which came with nothing and were priced like a platter. For almost nine bucks, we got four small, tasteless strips of meat on top of a pita, with white (not spanish) onions, chopped tomato and lettuce. No Feta Cheese, and the tzatziki sauce was served in teeny sample cups. Are they saving the meat for their better customers? Ridiculous and both of us were shocked at the apparent greed of the owners. All of this being said, I will probably return and try something else on the menu. I am actually very surprised by some of the reviews about Monroe Diner! The place is new, very clean and we've only had great experience when eating there. I have three kids and the service is super fast, which is a plus. Quality wise, I have always been pleased with our order. This is not my favorite diner. I have given this place plenty of chances. I live right in the neighborhood so you would think I would be a regular; only if this establishment was up to par. When you order to go they always seem to forget when you add or substitute an item. So please check your food/ quality. I have walked in numerous times the staff and the older man wouldn't even say hello, not sure if he is friendly. The older woman is nice, and does her best to help. read more

I know this is a new diner because I saw the old vacant one a few times since I moved away in 2007, and I know there must be some improvements, but it still feels like the good old Monroe diner I know and remember. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Not even busy on a Sunday morning and they seat us. Then ignore us for 15 minutes. No drinks. No order. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

This was my third time at Monroe diner very consistent. We had Greek salad to share, turkey burger and open turkey it was great service was excellent we did not have to wait for our food, they got a bit busy and we had to wait for our bill, not a big deal.This place is a local jem....we saw local kids working here, that is just great to see and very welcoming.....keep up the great job. read more

Wow! Lucky me? Stopped last night with my wife after the Victorinox sale. Clean place and the food and service could not have been better! No frozen or canned stuff here. The owner? This place is the most expensive diner I ever ate at. I had a Greek salad the other day and they charged me $19 for it. Most places in the area are half that for a Greek salad. read more

Wish I could give negative stars. My 13 month year old son has a very bad milk allergy. We have to be very careful of what he eats. We asked if the oatmeal was made with water or milk. They told us water after repeatedly telling them how allergic he was to milk. We fed him the oatmeal and within 2 bites he had an allergic reaction and his face began to swell. After showing the waitress she came back out and said the oatmeal is always made with milk. We picked up our stuff and left. Needless to say, we had to spend our New Years in the children's hospital because of lack of caring about allergies. They have been reported to the state. The fact that this place gets away with being a "diner themed resteraunt" is repulsing. Diners are fun, open 24 hours and off their entire menu 24/7. Being limeted to just breakfast in the am is kinda a disappointment. The biggest thing that upset me with this place was the cashier (who I think was the owner) was very rude to my friend as she paid. He just glared at her and put his palm out in a "give me money" gesture after not saying anything like what she owed. The server also mad a dumb comment on my friends food that she ordered. On top of that when she took my order, which was just a side of corn beef hash, which my the way was kinda gross, she asked "how would you like your eggs?". As a server, I understand the method of upselling, but that doesn't mean you assume I wanted eggs with my side order. Just ask "would you like anything else". Too add to this, the server brought over our check while while my friend wasn't near half way done with her food and didn't bother to ask if we needed anything else. So she assumes I want eggs with my side of hash, but doesn't assume we want anything else after our meal? Bottom line, the waiting staff needs to be retrained, which most likely won't happen since the owner appears not to care what customers think. I will say, however, the busser was polite and did his job in a timely and prompt manner. read more

Sub par diner. Food is ok. Will say that the service is quick but that's about the only upside. Standard diner food but of lower quality. Also regularly closes before advertised closing time. Came in at 9:00 on a weeknight (scheduled closed at 10) to be told the kitchen was closed. Arrived at 10:15 tonight (Saturday, scheduled to be closed at 12) to watch them turn off the lights and lock the door before I could leave my car. If it wasn't the closest diner to my home I would never attend, and after moving a few towns over in a few weeks, will definitely never return. read more

Went to Monroe Diner for dinner and ordered the open faced white turkey with gravy. It came with a baked potato and mixed vegetables. Also had the French onion soup which was very good. The turkey was dry and the gravy had a strong flour taste. The bread under it had a funny taste too, like cleaning solution was on it. The waitress was attentive, just a little to attentive. I believe the food is a hit or miss situation at this Diner. read more

This diner has been declining steadily. My wife and I used to go often for breakfast because it is close to our home, but we have really reduced this because everything is getting worse. The service, the food etc. The hours are cut back and there is never enough staff. They appear to be more concerned with the take out orders than the customers sitting in their dining room. Yesterday we went and we walked out. We ordered a club sandwich and an omelet. Nothing else. We waited and waited and waited, 25 mins later we still had not gotten our food and no one came over to inform us of a problem or to check to see if I needed more coffee. Others who came in after got their food before us and everyone was more concerned with the take outs, The place was basically empty on a Friday diner time. We left and went to another better run diner. There is no need to put up with bad service, uncaring staff and mediocre food when there are plenty of other diners in the area. They have also reduced their operation hours. Might be a sign of bad things to come. read more

We went here when it first opened. The food was probably the worst I've ever had from any diner. I think they employ apes to make the food. I ordered pasta with tomato sauce. Something a 10 year old could make without destroying. When my dinner came it was good for the first bite, then I realized they didn't drain the pasta out of the water and it was more like I was eating watery pasta soup with a hint of tomato. I'm not sure if anyone has tasted pasta water, but it's really pretty gross. You have to be really stupid to mess up pasta with tomato sauce. My parents also had disgusting meals. When we told the cashier that our dinners were disgusting and we sent them back, they only had us pay for one meal. That's better than having to pay for all 3. We eat here several times a month. Mostly evenings but a few lunches. Have always had good food and good service. It is a place you can go with people all wanting something different and they can eat pancakes or steak so it is great for a family and friends like ours with diverse tastes. I like the chicken souvlaki and they have a great yogurt, berry, granola parfait but it needs to be shared if ordered for dessert. some of the reviews seem unfair...it is a diner. This part of CT is reallly lacking good restaurants so we are glad to have a place of reasonable cost and decent food to take everyone from the little ones to great grandparents read more

Three stars with a caveat. When ordering bacon ask for fresh or extra crispy. I just had bacon that was recooked from yesterday. We have had good meals here and some misses. This was a big miss. Go to Kings fresh food, more expensive but way better than here. read more

Went a few times for breakfast, which was really good. Went for the first time for lunch yesterday, and that turned out to be a different story. The wife and I both got sick from the meals we had (I think the cole slaw was the guilty party). The meals also seemed quite pricey for a diner - $12 for a hamburger with fried and cole slaw. Nice to have a full diner back in the Monroe area. We had dinner the other night, chicken souvlaki and a hamburger deluxe. Food was acceptable diner fare, nothing special, with attentive and fast service. Wish the burger had a toasted bun, and that the the chicken fewer tomatoes, but the fries were good. Ate there late last night and thought the food was pretty good. My husband had a corned beef reuben and I had a greek salad wrap. Good diner food. Seafood I had on three occasions excellent value and fresh. Certainly one of the better diners in the area.

The local diner was where you used to go for a good belly busting meal that had the advantage of being inexpensive--actually I meant to write cheap. Not so much anymore. Stop here for a few pancakes, add some bacon and you're pushing eight bucks, and we haven't added in coffee. You can opt for a three egg omelette and get home fries and toast but add some bacon or sausage and you're back at ten bucks. Should you stop by for one of the dinner specials like lemon chicken or snapper and it's twenty bucks. And you don't want to add an appetizer or you could add another 10 bucks to the tab. Not what I had hoped for. If the food was exceptional or the service was great then maybe, but not my experience here. I know the restaurant business is tough and margins can be thin but at least make sure your staff goes out of their way to make sure the customer feels good about the bill. read more

Always good quality food and service however a bit pricey. My favorite is the wrap with the grilled chicken and Greek salad in it, it is delicious and filling! Their burgers are great and salads are huge. I would recommend based on food not on price. read more

This place started off great but lately there seems to be a lack of attention to detail. I ordered a grilled cheese with bacon and a order of fries. I got a order of toast with cold unmelted cheese topped with burnt bacon. Not to mention a side order of potato sticks. I know every place has its off days but this is strike 3. Service was very slow and the waitress was pretty inattentive considering they were not busy.. at all. All the wait staff seemed to be just sitting around. Food was not much better. I ordered the chicken pesto panini which was a hot sandwich that had a cold roasted red pepper slapped on from the fridge as an afterthought. The chicken was not pounded out and slightly pink inside and the roll was not toasted. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I would never consider coming here ever again. read more

This is sad ! Been going too Monroe diner for years and I know the owner pretty good ! Today January 23 2020 at About 230 to 3pm myself and my wife ate there and the service was horrible horrendous and the waitress about in her 50s late or early 60s was very unprofessional and should not be working there she was lazy when asking for water and toppings for food she had the worst attitude I have ever seen in my life ! If she was a man I would of took her outside and beat the shit out of her ! I believe she put something in my food that made me sick as hell ! I will speak to owner when I see him again ! I will not ggo back there again until she is fired . I believe if the owner knew what her work ethics were he would not allowed her to work there . I know we all have a bad day from time to time but this was not a good experience for anyone to go through she put something in the food this I'm sure . i wouldn't exactly recommend the Monroe Diner. every meal i had there was disgusting. the first meal i had there was spaghetti and meatballs. the sauce tasted spoiled and nasty, and same thing with the meatballs. the second meal i had there was buffalo wings. those, again, were disgusting. the buffalo sauce tasted like super hot sauce and the meat was dry. the only things i do recommend about this place are the belgian waffles (from what my friends thought) and their fries. otherwise, i strongly do not recommend this place. read more

Stopped off on our way to rte 84 for a quick lunch. Pleasantly surprised! Food and service excellent. Cobb salad, Panini and Moussaka were yummy and portions were generous. Look forward to a repeat stop! read more
