Rubbish. Not sure how this place has the reviews it does. Bottom line. Fish is basically frozen pre made battered fish. Was the best bit of the meal but nothing to be excited about. Less than 1/2 inch thickness on fish. Clams were basically fried breading. Hardly fast any clam at all. Fries were awful. Undercooked. No crisp. Soggy. And mine were all tiny. Basically feels like this place buys cheap ingredients. Doesn't care about quality really. Only upside staff were friendly and helpful. Stay away. read more

After reading some of the reviews here, I expected to get basically the exact fish you'd buy at the store and then everything being undercooked and underseasoned. I guess people are just expecting to get Seattle Waterfront tier fresh fish with artisinal, hand cut French fries, and soda milked directly from a Coca Cola Cow or something. Because this is some decent fish and chips. I mean seriously, what do you expect? This met and actually even exceeded my expectations, especially the fries and chowder. If you wanna pretend to be on Kitchen Nightmares, maybe this isn't your place, because obviously it's frozen and bought in. But if you want some tasty fried fish and French fries with damn good seasoning, I'd wager you'll find it worth it. read more

Food was great but I must review as a whole. I walked in and saw their prices and was pleasantly surprised that they hadn't seem to have gone up as much as other restaurants. A 3 piece fish basket was 14.98, comparable to Ivar's and others and the fish pieces were large, tasty and enjoyable. However, it's a bit of a lie.... They charge a 3 percent credit card fee, regardless of the cost of your order and here is the real kicker that lowered my review stars.... They charge a 5 percent.... Yes 5... Fee for "eco packaging"..... So my meal comes out.... Ironically in a plastic basket... With a single piece of paper in it... My drink comes out in a normal cup.... Yet I'm getting charged a 5 percent fee? Perhaps for takeout, charge for packaging, but dine in, really? I saw some "eco packaging" for the bowl another person was eating soup out of...... But my meal didn't include this and my bill is more? If you as a company hop on that bandwagon... Go ahead.. but don't hide it outside your food prices... It's deceptive. Probably won't go back unless I can bring my own bag and pay cash to get my 8 percent back? With food prices through the roof, do what you can to alleviate it.. stop the virtue signalling that doesn't do anything except make yourself feel "better". read more

I first went here when they first opened and was NOT impressed. Well against my better judgment I came back to give them a second chance. Huge mistake. I am now 100% convinced they buy their fish from Costco. Bland and disgusting. The fries are tasteless. Coleslaw is too watery. I really don't understand why people like this place. If you want good fish and chips go to Rays Drive In (Everett), Anthony's Homeport (Everett), or any Ivars location. read more

They're OK. I found the service to be good, but the food needed some work. The fries lacked any flavor, and the fish (as advertised, to be fair) was some national brand's pre-battered, frozen recipe. It was basically Gorton's or Van de Kamp's fish fillets, fresh out of the fryer. The restaurant itself appears to be a former single family home. I feel like it'd be really easy to make this place five stars - spend a little prep time and hand batter the fish, maybe buy a better quality french fry. We tried Monroe Fish and Chips shortly after they opened. The fish and chips were OK as was the clam chowder, the coleslaw was tasteless but again, they had recently opened. Last Saturday we decided to try them again as they had time to get it right, so I ordered on line, chose delivery and fronted a 20% tip. When the food did not arrive at our house at the promised time I gave a call to check only to find out that the food had been sitting up front for a while. I was told that "Door Dash" had not been in to pick up the food. Had the site that I ordered from indicate that they were using a third party delivery service I would have opted to come in and pick it up. When I questioned paying $65.00 for food that had been sitting "up- front" I was told after hesitation that it "should still be warm". The young man asked me to hold and put the phone down. I clearly heard the background conversation that I am assuming came from the owner (?) - "Not our problem, tell her to call Door Dash". (Seriously?!?) Needless to say, I was not happy and asked them to provide me with a refund as I no longer want the food that had been sitting. While I did receive a refund of the actual food ($46.85) I now have to chase after Door Dash to get back the delivery fee and tip of $18.99. Again, there is NO mention that a third party would be ordering the food. I know that things happen and they did provide a partial refund of the total, but for anyone to say "Not our problem...." is really not a good representation of the business and we will never go back. read more

Had seen this place over the years and always wanted to try it. Did so last weekend. Cozy eclectic place. A converted residence. Friendly counter staff. Ordered a combo with fish and class. Wife got a 2pc fish and chips. We both got a cup of chowder. Little taken back by the price, $56 pre tip but Had hopeful expectations. Grabbed a seat and food arrived shortly after sitting down. Nice. Looked pretty good but a little underwhelming. The chowder looked good but to me it had a weird almost chemical taste, I tried my wife's and found the same. She didn't taste it as much as I did but it was unappealing enough I left my $6 cup of what I believe was canned chowder un-eaten. The fish and class were mediocre. I don't believe they are fresh or hand battered etc. In my opinion, I think they are frozen. The class were actually good. Tartar was pretty good too as was the cocktail sauce. Overall not a great food experience so won't be back. Way overpriced for the quality we experienced. read more

The worst fish and chips I've ever eaten. I'd rather punish myself eating a McDonald's Fish sandwich then recommending Monroe Fish and Chips to my worst enemy. Everything tasted like they bought it in bulk at Costco or Sams Club. Their offerings are overpriced and underdelivered, which is the theme in this town. I really wanted to love this place. I found the fish to be greasy and the fries were overcooked, dried-out and rubbery. Tartar tasted like it was from a jar. The cajun seasoning was too salty - I had some cajun and some regular. I prefer Ivars or Gordon's cod fillets from the freezer with some oreida crinkle fries. read more

It was pouring rain and I was considering where I was gonna grab a bite when I drove past and noticed the parking lots was packed. I thought to myself how much I would appreciate a big bowl of clam chowder on such a moist, and damp day. I waited in line and got my order quickly, along with a smile and a warm greeting. This place is fantastic!! I've been really craving some good fish tacos, I was so hoping these fish tacos would do the trick. They were wonderful and really reasonably priced. The small tortilla was fried, as was the battered fish. It was topped with a cabbage slaw in white dressing. A little salsa would have been nice but to be fair, this isn't a Mexican restaurant. We also ordered clam strips, and they were the best clam strips I can remember having! Really nice generous clam pieces. The 3 piece fish and chips was outstanding! Very nice coating on the fish, and the fish pieces were really good quality and substantial in size-fried to perfection and no grease. The coleslaw is great and the cocktail and tartar sauces were really good too. I've noticed that fish and chips at Ivars is not what it used to be. The fish is much smaller and the prices jumped. From now on, when I'm needing fish and chips, this is where I'll come. The family who owns the restaurant is very friendly and accommodating. I'll definitely be back! read more

I too wanted to like this place. The five stars are because I want to support them, I'm glad they're open, and I really want them to succeed. But these five stars mean something _very_ different from say, Emerald City. The chowder was good! Nice and creamy, very traditional. It came with high quality oyster crackers that were not stale at all. Definitely some real clams in there, and not small ones. A-. The coleslaw had sat for way too long, I'd guess more than 24 hours and that may be charitable. I almost always finish my coleslaw and I didn't this time. Were it fresh, it would have been nice. A little red cabbage, maybe some carrot, I don't recall. They should consider making it in house, and if it already is, it should be made more often. I got a two-piece cod and chips with a side of shrimp. They came with some nice lemon wedges, some very plain, but good, tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce. No problems with the accoutrements. The fries were stale, but they came with some nice herbs and were cooked just fine. They had just sat too long. The smaller piece of fish was fried properly, but the larger was under-fried. The inside was still doughy/wet. It happens, and it didn't hamper my enjoyment of it too much. I'm used to it. I think the solution is to fry the larger piece for longer (nobody seems to do that). However, the fish didn't seem fresh to begin with. The breading was...chewy, like maybe it sat in a freezer too long and dried out? I'm not sure. It's possible the chewy consistency was from the fish flesh, which didn't seem fresh either. Shrimp, same story. They were under-fried to the the point where they kinda slid around inside the breading. I did not enjoy the shrimp. Fish and chips is never mind-blowing. When it's done well, it's great comfort food. But a restaurant has to be good and very consistent in order for their fish and chips to qualify as comfort food. Hopefully this place can turn it around, because I love having a straight fish and chowder joint so close to home. read more

I came in last Friday and the teenager taking orders was very friendly and helpful. It was my first time in and I had no idea what to get he recommended the combo meal I could try multiple items he do recommend I try the homemade cookies they offer they were amazing perfect ratio of chocolate, peanut butter, and cracker. Overall the restaurant was very cute and fit a obvious sea theme I ate outside on the patio area because it was such a nice day very happy the have somewhere to sit outside. read more
