This review is LONG overdue (just like the oil change always is on our Land Cruiser). I can not express in words (but will try) how much we appreciate Mike and his team - they have saved us SO much and they fix the issue and it's gone. As a mother of two toddlers, we want our children to be in the safest most reliable car we can afford (especially when driving on HWY-2 & 203 daily) and for us it is our used 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser. Mike and his crew have helped us not only save money but keep your little ones safe with their mechanical talents. We use to take our Toyota Land Cruiser serviced at Michael's Toyota of Bellevue, but after repeated visits for the same issues which they weren't resolving, and then charging use again to fix we knew something was not right. We needed to find an honest auto repair business and fast - as our car is the work horse for our family. We found Monroe Foreign Auto Repair on Yelp and based on their reviews we took a chance, and thank goodness we did! The $3,500 a/c repair we were quoted at Michael's Toyota of Bellevue turned out to be a $1,500 repair at Monroe Foreign Auto Repair! What more - the a/c worked 50% better than when we bought the car used 7 years before. We were floored and so grateful, as every family knows - every dollar is accounted for and committed when you have children. Mike and his team were very practical and conservative with their assessment and repair approach game plan. They were very up front with what they knew about the vehicle / model (and OMG - do they know A TON about Toyota's!), and walked us through the options and plan of attack to address the issue. We were so impressed with their ethics. It's seems so hard to find a business who puts the needs of their customer's first rather than much they can squeeze/take advantage of them in a difficult situation. Wish there were more businesses out there run by people like Mike. Unfortunately they do not work on domestic cars, When we brought in our Ford Escape, Mike referred us to reputable auto repair shop who took car of us, Apex Auto Service just across the road who took care of us. Also, drop off/pick up of our car was EASY! The only time we could drop off our Toyota off after hours, and all we had to do was park/lock the car (they have security cameras every where) - fill out one of the envelopes, drop the key in and slip it into the door slot. Mike fixed our car while we were away on a family trip. We handled payment over the phone and arranged pick up when we returned. If you have even the smallest of issue with your foreign car and have been given a quote, highly urge/recommend you stop by and see Mike before committing to anyone and see what his team can do for you. Always get a 2nd even 3rd opinion ... you could save tons of money like we did. Monroe Foreign Auto is the ONLY place we will take our Toyota to from now on. read more

Back in 2020, a visit to the Honda Dealer for a scheduled major service on my vehicle uncovered that oil was leaking from the oil pump and oil pan gasket. It was recommended that the oil pump be re-sealed, the oil pan gasket get replaced, and a new timing belt be installed since it was almost time to swap it out (accessing the area where the oil leak was would make it easy to replace the timing belt at the same time). I was quoted $650 for resealing the oil pump, $819 for replacing the oil pan gasket and $1300 for swapping in a new timing belt. The estimated total came to $3,277.85, which was a lot to spend on a nearly 20-yr old vehicle. A few months later, I finally had the money to cover the cost of this repair but thought, "Do I have to spend this much?" That thought got me looking around for other trusted places to take my Honda, which is how I found Monroe Foreign Auto. Their Yelp Reviews were really good...too good to be true, in fact. But, at least based on the experience I would have, this 5-star review is completely justified. I called Monroe Foreign Auto and talked with Bryan over the phone about the service I needed to have done. Shortly after our call, Bryan sent me an estimate: $2,041.58 for pretty much the same thing the Honda Dealer was going to do. For the next few weeks, Bryan and I kept in touch over email as I was trying to find an opening in my schedule to bring in the vehicle. These emails were all very warm and cordial--it was like I was communicating with a close "car mechanic friend" who would make sure everything was handled and fixed with care. I brought in my vehicle just prior to the new year (2021), and opted to replace the water pump, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, and oil pan/gasket. My total bill came in at $1,427.60. Throughout the service period, contact (phone/email) was steady as we decided on the right work that needed to be done--I never felt pressured to do anything I didn't need to and everything was explained in a way that let me make an informed decision. It's been close to 6 months since the service mentioned above was performed and my vehicle is running like new. Recently, I took it in to get an oil change at the Honda Dealer mentioned earlier, and it looks like my oil leak problem is truly gone. Now, I'll just have to make Monroe Foreign Auto my go-to place for *all* vehicle maintenance/repair needs! read more

This is the second time now I have had a problem with this business. The first time I was scheduled for an appointment and when I showed up they told me I didn't have one even though it was made weeks in advance with the owner. The second time I was told I could bring my car in for a quick oil change and hang out. I showed up and was told it would be at least 6 hrs before my car would even get pulled inside. Stay away!! They should rip the apex auto sign off of their building. Apex was hands down the best auto shop I have ever been too, they honestly treated you like family. I used to recommend people to them all of the time, I literary raved about them. This place and people are in no way apex. Get ready to pay %50 more than anywhere else. The tool bags even had the audacity to charge $75 for an inspection that I can gaurentee they spent 5min on. We take the paperwork to a different shop and they point out that the inspection wasn't even really filled out. They were probably just sore we don't want to get ripped off. If you have a foreign car and don't want to get ripped off. Go to east side European in totem lake off of 124th. They're awesome, great prices too always kept my Benz running great. I also have been told that streamline auto in Monroe is great, but haven't tried them yet. FYI I hate leaving bad reviews cuz I believe in small businesses, but it's for sure warranted. I called Apex Auto Service on 10/23/19 and asked for a quote on my truck for Lube Oil Filter. Dave said $38.99 (tax and all out the door). Took my truck there the following day 10/24/19 and when it's all done, he hit me for $46.17. I didn't even know it until he ran my credit card. Then wanted me to fork up another $412.09 for some BS axle shaft seal and air filter that has been chewed up by a mouse. I said "NO" and I have places to go to and do. I will NEVER go back here ever again. Dishonest and no integrity to what they quote you on the phone. I'll be buying my air filter at NAPA & install it myself. They updated me frequently as they diagnosed what was wrong and were super professional. They were honest that my self-done (done wrong) alternator replacement could have caused much more expensive issues, but resulted in an comparatively much less expensive fix. I found Monroe Foreign Auto on a recommendation through a friend - I had just called her, frantic from my visit with a local dealership because they had just informed me after a standard oil change that I would need 7k in repairs - that day! She told me that her family takes their cars here, and that Brett, Mike and Team were all wonderful, and to try and get in for an inspection. I called and Brett answered, and he told me I could head on down and he would check it out - same day! He took a look at the "problem" and explained everything he was doing, even called another mechanic out for a second set of eyes before determining that my car was fine! I made an appointment with this buisness for what I was hoping would be a straightforward electrical repair . It didn't seem to take much time for them to figure it out. They said it was fixed and I took them at their word . Come to find out they didn't fix it and from what I can discern they didn't check it properly to make sure it was . Rather than them trying to get it squared away asap, I was given a choice for an appointment in two weeks or later . Poor customer service despite being nice . Took my Honda in to have a few things fixed in November of 2018. All of the work was done perfectly but about a year after the thermostat gasket was leaking. This was a part defect, NOT a workmanship defect. I called Apex, explained the situation and they said to bring the truck in (they offered to look at it that night but I brought it in the next morning due to work) for them to look at for free. I brought the truck in the next morning and it was looked at and fixed completely for free within a few hours due to the part defect. They were extremely professional and made it painless on my end to get fixed, even offering to drive me to and from their shop since I work in Monroe. I would highly recommend taking your vehicle here and trusting Apex with it! read more

Let's be honest it's hard to find a honest and dependable mechanic these day. I've recently just moved up to Snohomish and this was one of the things I was concerned about finding a honest mechanic. I didn't have to look to hard thankfully. I needed a simple oil change and with that I can usually weed out a dis honest mechanic. Not the case at all here. They were friendly and honest. Pointing out that everything on my car that they checked was as it should be. Not saying oh you need this or that to make a quick dollar. I take care of my cars and know what's been done over the years and these guys didn't try to push on something that doesn't need fixed. read more

I had an issue with my Subaru Forester, the check engine light was on and cruise control was flashing. When I took it in, they told me the engine was bad and needed replacing. They changed the engine out for me but the check engine light came back on shortly thereafter. When I brought it back, they said it needed a new catalytic converter. I was frustrated but returned to have the work done recently. When he issue originally came up, they provided me an estimate of just over $900. When I brought it back in today, they said they could not find the old estimate but asked me to leave the car and they would call me with a new one. I did not have a ride that could pick me up and they indicated they could take me to and from the appointment. They had done this previously without an issue. Later, they called back with an estimate of over $1,500 with an oil change. When I told them that was more money, they said it was because of the part. I then did a quick check on the computer and told them the price of the part seemed well over what I was finding on line. He then told me the price was with their markup and it was what it was. I said fine, I don't want the work done but you can do the oil change and asked when it would be finished. He asked me to then be by at a certain time. I reminded him that I needed a ride as they dropped me off. He said they now could not pick me up. He then said I could Uber over and the owner would pay the cost. I said okay, will you arrange the ride or should I and get reimbursed. He then remarked that I would have to arrange for the ride but would have to talk with the owner about reimbursement. At that point I just told him I wanted nothing done to my car and I would be by to pick it up. Sleazy!!! read more

I used to go to apex auto which I absolutely loved, they had great prices, great people, and amazing quality. Then they changed owners and are now Monroe foreign auto. If I could give you zero stars I would!! Completely opposite of what Apex auto was. They wanted to charge me about 1100 for something more simple (new brakes, brake flush and said I needed a new hose) so I left and went to les schwab, and les schwab charged me only 500 and said I did not need a new hose only brakes. Foreign auto also charged me about 80 dollars for the inspection which apex never did and neither does les schwab. Then I took the inspection sheet foreign auto gave me and gave it to les schwab and come to find out foreign auto didn't even fill out my inspection sheet fully it was about 1/3 done!!! So les schwab did another inspection for free to make sure everything was actually looked at. This place is a rip off. You should refund my 80 dollars for a half done inspection. They charge double for everything than anywhere else!!!! Will never go back. Ever. I miss apex auto. Les schwab has a new customer! 0 stars for foreign auto they try to rip you off during a pandemic!!! Horrible. read more

I called because I changed my own headlight and it didn't work. So I called Apex and explained the situation and they said to stop by anytime and they will take a look. I stopped by a really nice gentleman tried a different bulb and it worked then he checked all my lights and it turned out my break light was out so they changed that too! All this at no cost. Love the Sultan shop. Been going there ever since they opened. They provide awesome service with reasonable prices. Only concern I have is that I recently referred someone to them. They called to schedule an appointment for a tune up on their truck. The first time they called, no one answered. The second time, someone took down their information and was told they would get a call back for a price estimate and to schedule an appointment date. Sadly, it has been over a week and still no call back, so they lost a customer due to that. Can't imagine how many other times this has happened to other people. Pretty embarrassing to refer someone to an awesome shop and they can't even get a call back to make an appointment. Although I will continue to take my vehicles to Avery and refer people, I am pretty ashamed of this customer service. There are just no excuses for this. read more

Took our f350 diesel in for the amazing oil change deal, and thank goodness we did. During the oil change they checked out the truck and found the bearing where very worn, and we shouldn't be driving the truck. Quoted me a fair price and took care of the problem quickly. Dave arrived and gave me the rundown on repair options and price. He gave me a ride home so I could telecommute and kept me up to speed on progress and arrived later to pick up my car. Apex truly is TOPS! I brought my van in today to get the motor mount replaced. Explained the situation to Brett and he said he would look it over and get back to me, then personally gave me a ride home. Called me a couple hours later (which is the time frame he gave me) and explained the problem was actually something else (which was a warranty issue at a different shop) and that my van was ready. I already had a ride back and when I got there, he had graciously left my vehicle in the air so he could show me where the problem was and what was going on. I was able to use this information when I got back to the other shop to explain what was found. After finishing at the other shop, I came back to Apex with a couple more questions, which Brett was happy to take time to answer for me. I have used this shop since they were called Avery's and have never been disappointed in their service, their professionalism, or their kindness. Even their prices are very reasonable when compared to other shops. If you need a full service shop or even just a mechanic you can trust, especially someone that will treat you right and tell you the truth, even if it costs them a sale, Apex is the place to go!! read more

This has been my regular repair shop since they opened. I have known the owner for a long time since he worked as a helper at my parents shop in Sultan (closed in 2004). This shop provides good service at a reasonable, but competitive prices. Customer service is excellent here! Their parking lot here is a little awkward & tight, and there's no handicap parking, but I overlook that. I recommend this shop or their Sultan location. Same good service there. read more

Although my boyfriend has taken his truck into their Sultan location and had a great experience in the years past... both locations have now gone down hill. Took in his truck for a vibration and a loud humming noise it was making. Got a call back the next day saying that "His truck ran like crap and needed a ton of work done to it." Granted this is a 2008 Toyota Tacoma... it's not an old beater car by any means. My boyfriend takes amazing care of it and there's no way it was running as awfully as they made it out to be. They were just looking for more money and weren't going about it in a nice way AT ALL. Learn some customer service!! So after all that, he tells us it'll be about $4,000 to get all four wheel bearings replaced plus some brake and tranny work done. Sounds like a lot but it was our only choice at this point and we thought we could trust them. I'll give them this, they were speedy getting the job done. They called us back 2 days later at 2pm and said the truck was ready to be picked up and that it HAD to be picked up within the next few hours before they closed for the weekend. Well... for us that wasn't possible. Neither of us could get off work and get to Monroe before 5pm. Wish they would have told us earlier that would be the case because we then had to deal with Nelson on the phone saying things like "What the f*** dude" and "We fronted a ton of money for the cost of parts to have this floating around the shop all weekend." THE CLOSED SHOP since no one could take two seconds out of their day to have us get it out on Saturday, which would've been totally doable. So the invoice says the parts were $1700 the rest of the $4000 was labor for two days and tax.. why didn't they have us put a down payment on the parts or something if they were so worried about it, it's not like we aren't going to pick up our truck we use everyday. Monday, we went and picked it up and was greeted by Nelson again who barely said a word, I paid and they gave us back the truck. Come to find out, the truck still vibrates at 45-60mph, the vibration actually nearly seems worse. The brakes they replaced are spongy and don't work well. So now we are $4000 out with just one of the major issues fixed and the rest still a problem. All in all, the vulgarity of the workers there is just insane. I don't care if it's just two guys talking about cars and being "manly", their customer service should never be swearing on the phone to people or ever being as rude as they were. Absolutely awful experience, I'm sad to say. Wish we could give a great review to go along with all the other good ones but I had to be honest and write this because I don't want anyone else taking their precious, expensive vehicles in to have this happen to them. read more
