We recently dined at Monroe's in Westbury on Post Ave. FYI...for those that don't know; the Chef/Owner at Monroe's was formally the Executive Chef at Tesoro's Westbury for 25+ years before assuming ownership of Monroe's. We've always loved his cooking and have since followed him to Monroe's while still frequenting Tesoro's. We started our dinner with an Appetizer of Rice Balls followed by an entree of Salmon in Orange sauce for my partner, and Shrimp & Clam Fra Diavolo over Linguine for myself. As we started to order our choices they also informed us they had initiated a new Price Fixe menu in case we decided to change. We stuck with our original choices but decided after perusing the Price Fixe menu we have to come back very shortly as it offers a great value. What's different about Monroe's is that it's offered 7 days a week except holidays, versus other restaurants that tend to limit the days or hours you can order off a Price fixe menu. It s a good deal at $39.95 for 4-Courses starting with a variety of Appetizers, followed by a choice of two salads, multiple Entrée choices including Pastas, various Chicken dishes, Skirt Steak, Port Chop or Pork Medallions, and Seafood including Red Snapper, Salmon, or Sole. Finishing up with a choice of several desserts to choose from. A complimentary glass of Wine or Beer to also accompany your meal. Both my husband and I chose one of the specials - stuffed veal chop and potato crusted sea bass. Both dishes were very tasty - great sauces, potatoes and veggies. We were the only ones there since our reservation was at 4pm so we were out in an hour. I lingered over my decaf cappuccino which was hot and yummy. We took a dessert home. Came here before a concert at the Space (it seemed like most people there were also going to the show). Pretty much a straight up Italian restaurant. Delicious bread on the table Amazing service I had a filet mignon which was prepared perfectly rare the way I requested. My friend had the whole branzino which was very meaty and had a nice flavor Each came with roasted potatoes and veggies which were also cooked to perfection. Not mushy do not hard. We went to this restaurant before a show at Westbury Music Fair. We made reservations for 9 of us and had to move the time up a little earlier since we wanted to be sure to get out in time for the show. When we called to change the time for our reservation, we were told it was no problem, and we could do whatever makes us happy; Just to come in and have a great time! When we got there we met Frank, who took care of us the entire night and also remembered speaking to us on the phone. He was so awesome and made us feel like we have been going there for years, when it was actually our first time! We told him we were going to a 7:00 show, and he not only got us out at the time we needed, but made us feel relaxed, never rushed and made sure we had an awesome experience, which we did! The food and service was exceptional! Everyone's entree was amazing! I can't say enough about how good this food was. I had the special which was sea bass, and it was so delicious and cooked perfectly. My husband had the chicken rollatini, also amazing! Everyone was so happy with their dishes, and loved everything they ordered. This place is so awesome that I wish it wasn't so far away from us. Frank told us they have music on Friday nights, and we are all going to go back at some point just for this restaurant. It is so worth the drive! The decor is also great, especially if you love Marylin Monroe, and the atmosphere is so relaxed you feel like you are eating in your own dining room at home! First visit on Father's Day evening. Grilled Pulpo, sliced lengthwise was tender and full of flavor. A Zucchini special with chopped meat and a red sauce was delicious. Main courses were definitely 4star... A Pork Loin special and Red Snapper Livornese were generous portions, prepared properly and flavorful. Cocktails were ice cold, well mixed with generous pours. The menu is varied, with plenty of options for vegetarians; the entrees are delicious and reasonably priced (even the bottle of wine!); and the service was friendly and gracious. Though we'd reserved a table for eight, our 18-month old granddaughter was exhausted by dinner, so mother and baby didn't go. Rather than being snippy about the change, they were very kind, offered us a peaceful table with a window seat, and we're especially accommodating of our grandson. Another date night with the lady and our gym friends; the venue Monroe's Italian Eatery. As you can imagine, it is a Marylyn Monroe themed eatery but that's only talking about the ambiance. The restaurant was very classy, you can come casual or you can come dressed in your Sunday finest they welcome you either way. The decor was fantastic, statue of Marylin Monroe as you enter was a great photo op. The staff was sensational, they memorized not only the menu and can answer any questions but they have a daily special list of too many to list. Our waiter was David and he was top quality, absolutely knew every part of the menu, the specials, and the drinks. We were bouncing back and forth on ideas for drinks and mains and he made some amazing suggestions that we were all very pleased with. We came in with a group of 4; two couples and were seated very promptly as our reservations were for 5:30PM. Table cloth was set and all the silverware was pristine. We immediately were served bread to the table with both butter and a very interesting tapenade that had a mix of eggplant, roasted peppers and some spices. It was hard to stop eating. After a few moments, David came over and detailed out the specials they were having, that were separate from the already extensive menu selection. He explained the most popular dishes in great detail, honestly we were floored how much was on the special's menu. Eventually we all decided on our starters and mains. For drinks, I had the smoked Bulleit Old Fashioned, made with Bulleit Bourbon, bitters, a large ice cube and orange peel, it was perfect. My girl had the blush and it was perfect also, she was worried about the sweetness and David requested it be made mildly sweet. Fantastic service from the start. The jolly rancher was another favorite at our table, pink and sweet with a jolly rancher gummy. Finally, the bombshell mule was the other drink for our group. Served in a copper mug; it was great. For the starters, we ended up getting the pulpo, which was grilled octopus over a bed of mixed greens and grape tomatoes. We also really enjoyed the stuffed shrimp. The portions were split in half for us as we mentioned we were going to share; normally the shrimp come with 3 and David was kind enough to bring a separate order so that we can all enjoy. The octopus was a bit over grilled on the smaller pieces but still very enjoyable (it was literally one tip of the tentacle), and still the crunch went well with the mixed greens. For the main course, we ended up getting the Montauk Fisherman's catch which was sensational. A ton of seafood such as mussels, clams, shrimp, and scallops over a bed of linguine in a choice of red or white wine sauce. (I enjoyed the white wine sauce with garlic). The other couple ordered a Surf and Turf combo with the steak cooked perfectly medium and a beautiful lobster tail with butter for dipping on the side. Finally, my girl enjoyed the shrimp and scallops over a seafood risotto. It was fantastic food all around. Finally, we get to the desserts, of course they had to run out of their special of the day Tiramisu; but we ended up snagging the last piece of blueberry cheesecake, a pecan pie with vanilla ice cream, and fudge brownie with ice cream. To make up for them running out of the Tiramisu, they offered fresh strawberries, dipped in chocolate with a sabayon cream. The ladies were floored and really enjoyed the desert. Friday night was my first time at Monroe's with my girlfriend!!! We were treated like the staff was happy to help us enjoy the evening especially Frank and he wasn't even our server!!! The food was delicious especially the octopus salad!!! I enjoyed the yellow fin tuna steak which was a huge serving and my girlfriend loved her Monroe salad with shrimp!!! We didn't have any dessert but I'm looking forward to our next visit and I'll report back on dessert!!! There is a large dining room & a more intimate dining area which we chose to sit in!!! It's really about a three and a half star. We came here for my birthday brunch. We had a reservation but we didn't really need it. When we entered there wasn't anyone to greet us. It was a good five minutes before anyone came to check on us. But after we were seated we got our menus and water. There was also a complementary cornbread that was still warm. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Steak. My husband had the French Toast and my daughter wanted the Nutella French Toast. When our orders came out I didn't notice right away that it was incorrect because it did look good but before I touched it I got it returned. They apologized and brought it back in. My husband already started eating his before he realized he got the waffles instead of French Toast so we decided to ignore it. My daughter really liked her Nutella French Toast. When I finally got my order, it was very good. The eggs were nicely poached. The hollandaise sauce was creamy. The steak was a perfect medium. My only criticism was that hash brown looked good but tasted stale. There were parts that looked crunchy but were mushy and gritty. (I wonder if they just reused the hash brown from my first order.) And not that it matters to anyone but I love Pikachu so they get a half star back for the Pikachu decor. read more

Located within walking distance of the train station, we came here on a lovely Saturday for brunch. It wasn't busy maybe due to the weather but we had made reservations just in case. One ordered a salad, two ordered omelettes and I order the Salmon Avocado toast. They were all good. One friend was interested in the Salmon Avocado toast and had asked if she can have scrambled instead of poached and the waiter wasn't sure. It would have been nice if the salmon dish came with home fries. I will say the dishes came out very fast. There is street parking available and a small parking lot in the back. Service was friendly and efficient. It was pretty spacious inside with another room off to the side maybe for a large party. There is a bar as well. I was disappointed and had high hopes for this place. I traveled over an hour to celebrate mine and my goddaughter's birthday brunch. The decor was gaudy and maybe under renovation because the wood paneling on one side caught my eye and was warm and inviting. First, I wiped down all of the glasses and utensils with my table napkin; these items seemed worn; they don't pay attention to what the customers see. There's a wonderful restaurant I frequent, DeNovo, and the table settings are impeccable. I always see the busboys wipe down every single fork, dish, and glass prior to assembling the table. The restaurant is not fancy but it has pride. Second, the chef used sub-par ingredients. The food didn't seem fresh and when we asked for well-done home fries, they were in tiny bits and pieces, deep-fried and soaked. I had the eggs benedict and the Canadian bacon gave me agita and a headache (perhaps high in nitrates). Third, and the most redeeming quality of this restaurant was the service. Everyone was pleasant, attentive, and warm. The staff did an excellent job. I truly loved the server's Long Island accent. I don't live in the area anymore but it brought me back to yore when I was a young girl. I hope they don't take this review as a negative criticism but as an opportunity to improve some of the basic things it lacks. read more

Everything here is themed Marilyn Monroe - all the pictures, the statue of Marilyn, the bar, the lighting, decor is very nice. Easy to make reservations on line and wasn't crowded on a Saturday which is rare since we came a bit early. It did pick up about an hour later. Restrooms had Monroe's paintings/picture as well. Overall service was good but food was just ok. Parking lot in the back was convenient or find street parking. Complimentary bread to start - however it was hard... Appetizers to share: philly eggrolls were interesting and was ok, the burrata salad looked really good, however the burrata itself tasted like it came out of the freezer vs creamy. Had a wonderful experience at Monroe's last night. Went in late after seeing a show at The Space Theater up the block. Even though the night was winding down we were welcomed in and seated. A very nice space w interesting Marilyn Monroe themed decorations. Since it was late, we just had a couple of apps and drinks. All the food was terrific. The service was even better. Upon entering this restaurant we were greeted and felt very welcomed by everyone from the kitchen to the bartender. There is a small parking area on the side and rear area of the building. The food was OUTSTANDING. The selections on the menu (as well as the daily specials) were plentiful, they even had burgers and chicken sandwiches. The warm bread was a nice touch to coincide with dinner. The chicken parm with pasta was reasonably priced and extremely delicious. Portion was enough for me to take some home and the food was severed hot and fresh to order. Not greasy or salty as some other restaurants serve.
