I've been here twice and both times the food was great! It's especially interesting how they have a whiteboard of specials that keeps the options fresh. The service is also very friendly and attentive and the ambiance is nice and cozy, very old world colonial with wood plank ceilings. They do have a parking lot but it's small and fills up fast. Luckily parking after 6pm is free on the street over there. The Malbec was good and a decent pour. The free little bruschetta they gave was very good. So was the free bread. The special pistachio crusted bass was good though the sauce could do with more of a kick, but was still very good and enjoyable dish - the sauce is just more of a good blander dill sauce. The filet mignon with cognac and mushroom sauce was good and enjoyable but didn't have a kick. Still wonderful quality though and I like how it's one of those restaurants that still give you a veg and potato with the entree. We tried the mixed veg and mashed potato which were great especially to enjoy the sauces. I believe I had the regular filet mignon last time I was there and liked it slightly more. The quality of the food and selection is great. I think they could be amazing if they had a few sauces or options that kicked it up a notch, but it is very good as it is. The service is impeccable and it's easy to communicate with each other since there is no blasting music. I've been here three times in the past couple of months and found that the ambiance was warm and charming. The food has also been very good with ample portions. You definitely get your money's worth! However, the last two times the service was less than attentive. We felt that maybe that either it was because there was only the two of us, or that we aren't part of the "regulars" that we had been looked over??? They didn't ask if we wanted a second round of drinks during dinner. We sat for over 25 minutes after our dinner plates were cleared, watching the waitress visiting every table but ours. The salad was very generous portion (as was the swordfish) but the dressing was what really made it great. I want the recipe! We hosted our daughters bridal shower there on 9/20 and the food was amazing but the service by Foto and her staff was even better. She was very attentive to our guests and their special requests. The bridal shower package was affordable and she made sure our guests water glasses and champagne flutes were always filled. Before last night it was always a inch thick and cut like butter. Last night it was one half inch thick and very tough. The Davenport Press is one of those very old restaurants where you know everyone, and everyone knows your name. it's been a Mineola staple for a very long time. The Davenport Building was originally built in 1896 as the Nassau County Trust. In 1924 it became the Davenport Press and remained a printing press until 1978 when its' present owners converted it to a restaurant. I am glad they did. Lots of memorable decorates this shop and the wall hangings are fun look at and to read. They have a great room with a good size bar and plenty of tables. This is a popular spot to come and hang with friends after work. The restaurant has plenty of space with their main room and multiple private rooms. We hold our monthly Kiwanis meeting here in the downstairs private room. This room could easily handle 50 people and we usually have around 25. The servers here are delightful and know many people as there are so many regulars here. For our private event we usually have 3-4 dishes including Chicken Francaise, Broiled Salmon, and London broil. We start with some salad and work our way through dinner with some coffee or tea and desert. Our servers are always delightful and has been taking care of our group since we started coming here. They team here is always very attentive to your needs. The food has always been fresh, hot, tasty and plentiful. They have a small parking lot and additional parking behind the building. Since the building of the LIRR third track you must enter from old country Road. You can no longer come down (South) Mineola Blvd and just go over he tracks. read more

Had dinner Sunday evening with friends . Haven't been here for years. Service and staff were fine but I had a crab cake as an appetizer that was tasteless, for entree I had stuffed shrimps and the taste was horrible. I don't know what seasoning they used but it was inedible. I took 3 of the 4 shrimps home thinking maybe it was my palette and I asked my wife and adult son to try it and I hadn't told them that I didn't like it, I said I was too full to finish it. Food: The servers brings a complimentary plate of brushetta and a plate of olive bread for sharing then you have a choice of breadstick (it's extremely hard) or a roll for your bread plate. Everything was pretty good - no complaints. The servers kept our water glass filled. We ordered: Appetitzers - Grilled octopus - Fried Calamari Entree: - Pork Osso Busco with mushroom risotto - the meat was moist and fell off the bone - Ahi Tuna - Bacon Wrapped Shrimp - Grilled T-bone Steak - Chicken Francaise Dessert: - Napolean (Homemade in Restaurant) - my favorite out of all the Desserts. We were meeting friends at a restaurant they had chosen where we had never dined in the town of Mineola. At first, we were wondering why they chose a restaurant a distance away from where we all resided, but later discovered the reason. Davenport Press is located on the corner of Main Street and Front Street right next to the railroad tracks and buried around tall buildings. We learned that the Georgian & Federalist style Davenport Press Restaurant is now a structure building designated as a historical landmark. The building was erected 118 years ago to be Nassau County Trust building, converted into a printing press, then later a restaurant. When you enter the restaurant, to your left is a cozy traditional, but elegant bar set in its own room. The dining room is a traditional cozy unassuming piece of early history of Mineola. The service was excellent, and our dining experience was delightful. We had ordered onion soup and an artichoke for appetizers, and lamb shank, shrimp, and swordfish for our entrees. All the meals were delicious. We highly recommend a visit to this restaurant, and we will surely be back often. read more

Went for a luncheon for my husbands funeral. Being a former waitress I can say the service was horrible could not find servers were watching a baseball game on tv at bar. We were the only people there when it came to paying I always leave a generous tip the server threw it back at me and told me it was not enough. Went here this week to celebrate my birthday! I haven't been to the restaurant in 20 and decided to go and see what it is like. We had a fabulous time and excellent meal. Miguel was out waiter and was super attentive. Elleni our hostess was also wonderful. As for food-EXCELLENT. Best stuffed artichoke I ever had. It was so good that my mother took one to go to eat at a later time. I am not a fan of lamb, but I tasted my aunt's and it was delicious. Branzino was fresh and spectacular. I know people complain about service on holidays, but I have to say, Davenport Press restaurant was excellent from start to finish! I made the reservation on Open table with a couple of requests. The manager/ owner called me up to discuss, as he wanted to make sure I was content. When we arrived, we were seated quickly. Owner remembered me and sat us in what he thought would be the quieter spot, which it was. It being Vslentines day, he gave every woman a long stemmed red rose, an absolutely nice tough! Service was excellent and timely, food was delicious and the menu was also good, having several vegetarian options. There is a large board with their " specials" of the day, that they bring to your table. They start you off with brussetta, bread and someone comes around with a large bread tread for you to select whatever you want: varied rolls and bread sticks. Water is filled regularly, cocktails good ( although I would have preferred a better cherry in my old fashioned) Lots of desserts, as they come around to each table with a two tiered serving platter with desserts to choose from. We opted for their own homemade Napolian, which was delicious and a fruit plate. They have a parking lot, which was full, and so we parked on the street. Meters are up at 6:00 pm. It is located next to the LIRR, but it is not disturbing. It's a quaint restaurant, that was built in the 1880's, became the Davenport press paper and then became a restaurant in the 1970's. Sorry it took so long for us to try it. It's more of an old school type restaurant. There were three rooms, the main dining room which is more cozy and has more character, the second dining room which is quieter maybe, but less decorated and the bar room, where there are also tables. I can't imagine service being any better on a regular night, as it was on this holiday. They did an excellent job! read more

The Davenport Press is an underrated Mineola gem. If you're looking for a place in the area -- maybe as you hop off the Mineola LIRR station -- this is the PERFECT place to go. Last night, I had a reservation at another restaurant for 13 people that turned out to be abysmal (unbeknownst to me, they had decided to seat us in an indoor/outdoor location with a broken space heater) and the Davenport legitimately saved the day. When we called the Davenport to see if they could accommodate our large group at the last minute, it was an easy yes. We zipped right over, and had a wonderful, warm and cozy time in the Davenport's main dining room in the back. My husband and I go to the Davenport pretty frequently, and the food and drinks are always phenomenal. Last night was no exception -- and many of our group ordered off of the large, nightly "specials" board (which I highly recommend!) in lieu of the standard menu. The service was also top notch: our waiter was clearly experienced in the way he handled our table, and despite our group size, our courses were served in a reasonable amount of time. I am so grateful for the staff at the Davenport for making my night. Thank you. Needless to say, we'll be back soon! read more

Arrived to an early reservation for 3 at 4:15 and seated promptly and drink orders placed within minutes. The expresso martinis we good we ordered 2 seafood bisque and the lobster cocktail which was especially delicious. The lobster was the claw and half a lobster with 5 or 6 huge shrimp in a sauce I cannot quite describe and navy beans which were mixed with the shrimp. Great portion at a fair price I would get it again next time if it's regular on the menu. For the main entrees I went off menu for the specials and ordered the Long Island duck which was very good and choice of baked, mashed potato or fries I choose the potato with vegetable medley all were very good. My lady ordered the scallops with same sides as I and it was delicious her dad had the pork chops huge order he had to take it to go. No dessert we were stuffed but they looked really good. This is located off old country road just east of Franklin Avenue tucked away. Not a place you would drive by it's in a dead end and very industrial area but very nice inside and worth the visit. The only thing we like is the bruschetta and ask for more than 4 times but they never bought it over. They will said ok then completely forgot about it. I have never written a Yelp review before, but felt the need to express my experience at this restaurant. We recently went to The Davenport Press with a 2 person reservation to celebrate a birthday. When we entered the restaurant, we let the server know that we had a reservation, but he sat us down without looking at the computer. Even though there was only 1 other table seated in the restaurant, they did not recognize that we were there to celebrate a birthday. The gave us two types of bread to start: one type with diced tomato on pieces of crunchy bread and the other type was two large slices of herb bread. The crunchy bread tasted stale and was soggy while a fruit fly landed on the herb bread. We then ordered two appetizers of escargot and mussels. They let us know they did not have mussels that day even though it was on the menu, so they asked if it was okay to substitute with clams, to which we said yes. When the clams came out, they were bathed in somehow both an extremely salty yet flavorless sauce. Then the escargot. It was by far the worst escargot we had ever had. The best way to describe the taste is that it seemed like they mixed burnt oil with leftover sauces they had. We left most of it uneaten. For the entrees, we got the lobster tail plate and NY strip au poivre. The lobster tails were the size of small shrimp and probably not Maine lobster. There was no taste and the texture was also tough, which may indicate it was overcooked. The NY strip was better since it was surprisingly big, cooked as desired, and had a good sauce. But don't expect a super high quality cut of meat. The veggies we got as the sides also seemed to be frozen then steamed, and there was little flavor. Sadly, the best things we ate were the mashed potatoes and fries we got as second sides. Overall, my experience at this restaurant was poor. We overheard the large table next to us express the same sentiment. Not only was the food subpar, but the price also did not reflect the value. This establishment seems like the type of place that rides off its history of a printing press, which may bring in a crowd to drink. There were maybe 10-15 people sitting at the bars, but only 3 tables seated in the dining room. Save your money and don't be fooled by the ratings. read more

Went for a romantic dinner with my wife. The decor is eclectic and fun. Not totally romantic but nice. The service was excellent as we were brought, shortly after being seated, a plate of bruschetta and fresh made bread that was one of the best breads I have ever had, and that includes Paris. I started with French onion soup. It was delicious. The cheese was crunchy, the onions were super sweet and caramelized, the bread still had a crunch as well. Delicious! Dinner was super special. I got the Tomahawk steak. My wife got the tuna. Her tuna was perfectly seared and super tender. She really enjoyed it. My steak was fantastic! Cooked to medium rare, exactly as I asked, a nice char on the outside and super moist on the inside. I was so impressed. One of the best steaks outside of the high end NYC Steakhouses that I have had. We ended with their fresh napoleon.
