Pretentious Palace of Pinot No Kids, No Dogs, No Chill This winery is massive--It's more "day spa meets corporate retreat center," And It's undeniably pretentious. The wine is decent--good, even This is not a place for children (they're clearly not welcome), nor for dogs (definitely not dog-friendly). Instead, it caters to a very specific crowd: ladies who lunch, retirees, and the occasional girl gang. The Mrs. and I stopped by Monserate Winery for lunch today while making our way to Borrego Springs. We've been to a lot of wineries and Montserate is probably one of the most beautiful wineries we've been to. Our lunch reservation was for 1:30. We arrived around 1:15. There are two dining options. The more formal Monti's Ristorante which offers a very extensive menu that includes pasta and table service. Then there is the less formal courtyard dining options that has a smaller menu and no table service. We chose courtyard dining because the weather was perfect and it was a crime to sit inside. The courtyard menu offers appetizers, salads, and pizza. You're given a menu and a table number when you're seated. For there you take the menu to the courtyard bar and place you order. We ordered the fried calamari, Cesar salad, and Italian sausage pizza. The calamari was served with a spicy Marinara. It was really good and the Marinara complimented the saltiness of the calamari. The Cesar salad was really refreshing. The lettuce was in small bite sized pieces and the dressing was light. The Italian sausage pizza was topped with scallions, olives, and Mozzarella. It was really good and the crust had a good flavor. All three dishes are big enough for two or three people to share. To drink I had a glass of the Montepulciano and the Mrs. had the Monte Luna which is a Rose wine made from Montepulciano. Max, who was working at the bar, was so friendly and helpful. He was very knowledgeable about the wines. I could have stood at the bar and talked wine with Max all day. The parking lot was surprisingly small. Once you park there is a bit of a walk to the winery. read more

What a lovely tasting and experience in the courtyard -- the team at Monserate has nailed both ambiance and hospitality paired with wines that despite young vines are quite nice! Highlights: -Darius our host was knowledgeable, helpful and just engaging enough without being too present, he even made my ornery 81 year old dad feel right at home with a little humor -the Lune Rosa Rose, Barbera & Sagrantino are excellent and more are coming home with us -it was a lovely touch to enjoy fresh olive oil and bread along with the tasting The venue has amazing landscaping and feels so gracious -- Worth a visit -- especially since it's so close to the coast! This is a lovely winery and I had even toured to get married there about 3 years ago. Since then, every time I visit the snob level increases with each visit. Not only do they now ban children during the weekends, the turf area is apparently exclusively for weddings only. Good luck attracting the "right crowd" because your exclusive snobby attitude has made this my last visit. read more

This has been a great venue to go to with friends for some beautiful atmosphere, great food, and of course wine! I have visited many weekends over the last few months and brought several out of town guests. Today was interesting as the tasting room moved to a new location on the property. The new side had beautiful gardens but the other side also had a great setting with a very serene lake and beautiful greenery. It's a different experience. In the prior location they had live music which greatly enhanced the experience. Our server advised they were working out the details for the new location in order to have live music again. The food has alway been top notch however, when I ordered the bruschetta this week the portion was much smaller than what I received last week. The pieces were exactly 1/2 the size. It was an obvious change. I found that very alarming. I love this venue and enjoy sharing it with friends on special occasions. I hope today was just part of getting set up in the new space and not an indication of a lower service level. I will give it another try after some time. read more

We heard that this place has re-opened for their new expansion so we had to try it out. Needless to say, we are members now. They have an easy 2 bottle membership which won't break the bank. In addition gives you 4 complimentary tastings a month, which is better than most. We wouldn't have done it if the wine wasn't good. But between the good wine and the great food. This is a great spot to visit. My only 2 complaints. And I know this won't be for everyone. No dogs and no kids on the weekend. We don't have kids but have friends that have great kids. This limits who we can bring on the weekends with us. We also have a dog that visits many wineries with us. Here we cannot bring him and for this reason probably won't last long as a member. The other thing that rubs me a little (not the establishments fault) is the "service dogs" that still come. If my two complaints don't bother you, check it out for a weekend lunch and wine tasting. read more

Long time enjoyer and wine club member. Their wine is great, as is their staff, and their wood-fired pizza. Went today for first time since they moved the Wine Tastings to the new space on the left. Beautiful space, but many added complications in getting seated for casual dining (pizza) and placing our order. Main thing to know is, you must get there before 4pm, which is the new seating cutoff for casual dining. Line up in the central corridor to be seated. Then they had us check in on a Yelp Kiosk (which was only available in-person, not in-app). Then we waited, they seated us. Once at our table, we had to go up to the inner cashier counter to get our pizza order in by 4:30. They also have wine there. If only getting wine (no food,), disregard all this, you can go to the first tasting counter you see, at the new wine counter in the first building you see on the new side. There's a lot more to it, but those are the basics re. getting there near closing. We enjoyed this new normal less than our dozens of previous visits, so many steps to get in, it felt stressful under the deadline, our pizza was cold, and we left feeling sad/nostalgic for the simpler way of the past. I know they're in a season of change. I hope they simplify the casual dining flow. They'll also soon be opening an Italian restaurant. Will that make it better or worse? The pizza and the wine are great. They lean heavily on the atmosphere, which is really lovely, but it isn't enough if the guest experience doesn't match. read more

A gorgeous resort-like winery in Fallbrook with a full-service restaurant, tasting room, and wedding venue. It's on the property of an old golf course so there are pretty lakes with fountains too. I went with a few girlfriends and we shared pizza, salad, and a few wine flights. The server was really helpful suggesting food and wine. My second review for Monserate Winery after the upgrades and expansions. This is my first visit after the massive expansion. The winery now has a new restaurant (coming up), a large tasting room, separate building for events and weddings. Everything now feels grand, polished with beautiful landscaping, lots of outdoor seating. However, that small, simple vinery feel with beautiful lake views is gone. While the food and the wine were great, sitting now in this new courtyard, i didn't feel the breeze from the lake, nor the view is no longer available. I feel for me this was the focal point of the winery. The families with kids used to play and relax on the turf lawn next to the lake but that's also has been changed. Families can no longer attend on the weekends and the lawn is gone ( or no longer accessible, not sure). Anyway, i digress.. on to the food. Their pizzas are a must try, they pair perfectly with wines. There are also a few selections of healthy salads. Sweltering weather on my winery visit made Pio Grigio the perfect choice. It crisp and refreshing taste was ideal for a hot summer day. Side note, please offer complimentary water to your customers who are sitting down and ordering food. Not only is the setting absolutely stunning, the customer setvice, wait staff and food are all outstanding. The tranquilty of Monserate is well earned as it is nestled in the foothills of Fallbrook and surrounded by lush and attractive landscaping. The food is beyond delicious, from the delicious starter of brushetta to the dessert of gelato or Vineyard Cake. It is not too pricey and as mentioned, before the staff is 5 star all the way. Went to Monserate Winery in Temecula just for the charcuterie board and it did not disappoint. It was big and could easily feed three people. The winery was busy but we sat outside with beautiful views that made it worth it. Parking was hectic but overall it was a really nice experience. read more
