Newton's has been our go to restaurant when we want to enjoy some delicious food. We normally only come here for dinner, which is when we had the ribeye and chicken fried steak! The ribeye was perfectly cooked, tender and perfectly seasoned. My wife always gets the chicken fried steak. It's a huge meal and a heck of a deal. Each plate came with mashed potatoes and some veggies. I love desserts and I am always trying new places to find the best desserts. I can honestly say that Newton's bread pudding is the best bread pudding I have ever had and is one of my favorite desserts. I follow their social media and I always see their burger Tuesday's. We happened to be passing through and decided to stop in. Carlos was our server and he was on top of things and he offered great customer service. I got the triple meat smash burger with grilled jalapeños and bacon added. My wife got the buffalo chicken sandwich. They were both tasty. I would definitely stop by again for their burgers but their steaks are still my go to. And of course we had to finish our meals with a bread pudding!! read more

Country decor is fitting for the "cowboy chef" and the menu falls right in line. The chicken fried steak was great, sorta wished my grilled veggies and mashed potatoes was separated on my plate instead of basically mashed together under the steak and gravy. My wife had the filet and the kitchen was nice enough to sub a gluten free pasta for the blue cheese gnocchi that was on the menu. Traveling through & saw they had chicken fried steak, so I had to go. It was a nice rustic place, which would be nice for date night. We were greeted warmly & our waiter was friendly. We started off with an appetizer that was quite tasty & a good combination of flavor. We ordered the goat cheese with honey. Of course, I ordered the chicken fried steak, but to my surprise it was a Chicken Fried 16 oz Top Sirloin Steak with a Jalapeño Cream Sauce on top of mashed potatoes with a side of veggies. It was huge & looked amazing! At my first bite I was waiting to bite into a soft, succulent, flavorful steak, but was very disappointed. Unfortunately Newton was not in the kitchen that day. The batter, along with the steak & the sauce were all bland with absolutely no flavor. The Jalapeño sauce didn't even have a kick to it. Presentation was great, but that was about it. My daughters ordered adult spaghetti O's. The Tomato sauce was so acidic & bitter that made it unappetizing. I had to ask the waiter for a pack of sugar to balance the sauce. I spent NYE with Chef Newton last night, and OMG! First, the scallop potato and mushroom pate appetizer was amazing!!! Then we had the soup. WOW French onion consumme with the brisket dumpling was the absolute best!!! Then we got our entre, but before I get to that, Bailey Jo, she rocked the bar with her fantastic drinks! The New Years evening was a disappointment. The appetizer was good. French onion soup was warm but tasty. Tenderloin was tough - had to ask for a steak knife- and they ran out of mashed potatoes but substituted risotto. I think I ate one medallion. I wasn't asked how it was or if I wanted to take the rest home. Dessert had a small amount of vanilla ice cream-maybe a tablespoon-and the French toast was too hard to eat. We have been here several times and this was not the usual service or quality. For the price we were charged, $120 per person, I expected more. read more

First time in Stephenville and stumbled upon Newton's Saddlerack. The ambiance was great and the server was very friendly. I had the Tequila old fashioned and Jalapeño poppers to start with. Both were great and extremely flavorful. For the main course we ordered the 8 oz filet along with French bread, and "the carrot". The steak had great flavor and was cooked to perfection. The French bread had a homemade butter that was amazing! My personal favorite part of the dinner was that carrot! Was in town from Dallas, came here to celebrate anniversary with wife. Steak was comparable if not better then any steak I've enjoyed. Service was great, waitress was attentive. Not crowded. Tried the quail tamales, the masa is thin just like my grandma use to make. Delicious. read more

My wife and I came here for our 10 year anniversary. We tried two appetizers - the crawfish bites and shrimp cocktail - both solid choices and portion sizes. For our entrees - my wife got the steak medallions, with I believe chipotle mash potatoes, crawfish on one medallion, lump crab meat on the other, and grilled asparagus . The flavor was solid, and medallions incredible tender - enough so my wife was able to cut them with a butter knife. I ordered the lamp chops - first time ever trying lamb like this - and unfortunately the cook botched it a bit - but both Newton and his wife were very apologetic, removed it from our bill and understood exactly what the cook did incorrectly - and offered to make me anything else on the house. Had I not been already satisfied with the appetizers and sharing those incredible medallions - I'd have taken them up on their offer. For dessert, I got the crème brûlée - which was solid, and my wife got the Kahlua brownie which she really enjoyed. The food is worth coming here for, and I believe they'll make it right in the event you happen to get anything less than satisfactory. Places like this in Stephenville are a rarity, and I hope they are around for many years to come. read more

We came to town to walk the shops but had to stop for some food. This restaurant was an awesome find! Western atmosphere with nice large tables. They even have blankets for when you are cold! Very disappointed. Spent big bucks. The Steak was tough,even if ordered medium well,sides were like baby food, thin and salty. No bread or crackers with salad, although salad was good. Service was fair but not exceptional. It was a big expensive disappointment. If you want a great steak and great service don't waste your money here. Go to the Chop house in Hico. Now that place is worth the money and the food is on point and the ambiance and service is perfection!!! I actually was on the reservation list under my husband's name. And I don't know the owners of either one. All I know is what my experience was I am an honest person who doesn't mind turning loose of money for a good meal or experience. Our family came for my sons graduation dinner. I wanted to say first off I did make a reservation which I had to change. They were so nice to change it but told us we might have to wait at the bar for a table to become available. Well when a table became available no one said anything to us until I finally said it is past our reservation time they said oh okay you want to be seated now. So we were like okay this won't ruin this night. Let me say the drinks are high but good. Wish they had more of the cocktail menu. We wanted 10 min before we got our drinks taken. Then we ordered starters which that took 20 min or more to get! The waiter told us he forgot about us to be honest! Wow!! Everyone else was nice and the food was amazing. I don't like that you have to pay for bread to be served with your meal. I will not be back to this restaurant due to that everything cost something and the service. We drove a hour to check out this hidden jewel. The bartender was the perfect mixologist and our server was very attentive and helpful. The staff was top notch. We split a ribeye and it was still massive. It was cooked to perfect and the chef was kind enough to stop by our table. The dirty rice balls are to die for and the spice is not too much. Now the food was amazing - steak slightly over cooked but still tender enough to cut with a butter knife - dunno why they're so proud of that but whatever .... The steaks were great. Literally the best restaurant in hundreds of miles. 3rd time here, got to meet the owner, GREAT DUDE, even got to play with the owners dog. OnLy a couple issues this time were disappointing as they were out of the norm and the place is a pricey restaurant. side salads were forgotten (that are $9 a piece), when I mentioned they were brought after the mail was set, then we just boxed them up. Typically a mistake like that on a $300 dinner for 4 would be removed from bill. I didn't ask because I was paying for the birthday dinner for my girlfriends dad, didn't want to look rude. And small drawback on this as well... it's a very informal and casual fine dining place so I can't be too upset, but I put that it was a birthday in the reservation and usually a place of this caliber would acknowledge leading into desert or even when seating the table. They did comp his desert, but I did have to remind the waitress after it was on the original bill even listed as Birthday Dessert on there. Again, third time here, it's the best food anywhere around and I'd put it up there as a top 5 if you include DFW but it was just some little stuff that made me go 4 star on this one. Our party of 5 was highly disappointed. Food presentation was awful & taste of main dishes ( beef medallions / salmon ) was just okay. The 5 skimpy asparagus that were placed on a large plate was overcooked. I believe imitation crab meat was sprinkled ontop. The Bourbon carrot had a nice flavor but again presentation lacked and a glob of sauce was poured on it. Our cocktails were tasty but got mixed up so mine had been drank half way by someone else before the waiter said oh that was not yours and placed it in front of me. Rude - another drink should've been offered for the error or half price. The dessert was crème brûlée nice flavor but so tiny. Lastly, on the special board was coffee "party in a cup"It was presented in a plain white ceramic mug ( no whipped cream, stick of wafer shaved chocolate etc). Food was not good. Steaks were massively overseasoned...crunching on pieces of peppercorn and way over salted. Lots of little hidden fees as well. Charged us for bread and charged us for the smoke in the smoked cocktail...etc. the waitress was fantastic however. We racked up a $330 bill and thought that quality wise, it should have been a $175 meal. Whoever owns this place has pictures of himself EVERYWHERE. The service my daughter and I received last night was beyond rude and unprofessional for a restaurant which touted itself as upscale and innovative. We called in advance regarding reservations and was told none were needed. When we walked in, we were immediately asked about a reservation. The restaurant was EMPTY! One table with guests. We were rushed through the entire meal, with the server actually grabbing the plate! The food was the only thing that saved this from being a total disaster. From the first call to make a last minute reservation to paying the check, the staff was friendly and on point. The owner/chef was there greeting guests and making the rounds. I don't think he's ever met a stranger and he made sure each guest was made to feel at home. We stumbled on Newton's quite by accident and are so glad we did. We will definitely be returning.
