Blazingly, quick greeting, and service, we had the lunch special today, on Monday, and it was chicken fried steak. I'm usually not a big fan of chicken fried steak, but this one was hot, tender, crispy on the outside, and perfect! They make the best mashed potatoes in the world, they leave the skins on them and they are great! That PLUS wonderful string beans with chopped bacon inside, there's nothing better for lunch at this price, $9.99! We also got a nice unsweet, Arnold Palmer, our waitress, Charles, Brought us a charger for our telephone because I had one getting very low. And they smiled all the way, I left him a great big tip, and I love this place! They're also very good to my dog, 60 pound bulldog on a leash, who sat in the booth with us and was greeted as politely as a person. We will be back many many times. read more

The young lady who seated us and subsequently waited on us is a young woman named Ellie with a beautiful smile and bubbly personality. I have been a lover of peach tea since I learned that it existed several years ago. Upon learning that cotton patch serves it, I ordered that to drink. That is without a doubt, the absolute best PT that I have ever drank in my life! And Ellie made it! My wife and I ordered our meals and they were served promptly and efficiently. Each time would check to see if we needed anything - which was often - we would engage her in further conversation. Servers like Ellie work for peanuts as far as hourly wages go. They survive on tips. There is a rumor that servers will not have to pay taxes on tips much longer, and I hope that's the case. I was visiting town for Thanksgiving and took my mom here that weekend. We were sat and our waiter was very friendly and I enjoyed chatting with him. The food was seemingly good but after we left and later that night I got extremely bad food poisoning from eating here. My mom was fine. So I wonder what kind of nasty conditions are in the kitchen or did the cook do something to my food? I'm very disappointed and very upset and it ruined my holiday weekend. Most uncomfortable chairs anywhere!!! Changed menu to look cheaper but actually most are same price as they eliminated say the standard grilled chicken from their Big Ol Cobb Salad $9.99 plus $3 grilled chicken still equals $12.99 same as always. Why not just actually go down on prices rather than fake it? Also, sometimes we can sit at a booth with a high chair and other times we are stuck in these crap-tastic hard wooden chairs. Bring in a group and they cram everyone together where no one on the back row can move or get out. Service is normally pretty good except on Sunday when it takes double time to get food. Oh and high chairs are still broken and in bad condition- nothing has changed in two years! Food today was off in flavor- chicken fried steak breading was bitter tasting like too much baking soda or old oil. The salad I had - the avocado had turned, the tomatoes were very sour, and the ranch tasted off -- it's a meal I get almost every visit and is normally pretty good. First visit to to a Cotton Patch since I gave 4 star pleasantries for the Brownwood, Texas location. So, maybe I've come to my senses. Down one star for this location in Stephenville, TX. Go for the bread; totally worth it. Two bucks for the skillet cornbread smothered in honey and a dollop of butter. Got to sample the tiny loaf shaped rolls that I missed on my last visit. Friggin' delicious! The wheels came off the wagon after that. My turkey club suffered in several ways. First off, there shouldn't be black spots (rotten spot) on the avocado. It was also about two more days from being totally ripe. Bacon was cooked on a solar panel attached to the International Space Station and returned to earth in a pine box..it should have been buried. The tortilla soup (referencing our previous visit) suffered from mushy vegetables. Additionally, the chili powder was almost double versus the previous bowl. I have passed this place many times but I guess I thought it was more fast food. We arrived and were seated at a table... our server was a bit frazzled but polite. I ordered wine and He brought me the small bottle of wine without the glass. I laughed was no big deal and got a glass. We ordered, my husband had the filet Steak dinner and I had the chicken strips. We also had the fried green tomato app. Everything was good! It was reasonably priced and pretty fast to get the food. I would say the place is a cross between Chilis and Dennys. My family of four attempted to eat here on a Thursday night at 6:45pm. We were seated promptly and then waited and waited and waited for a server to come to our table. Several walked by, one even cleaned the table off behind us and never came back to attend to us. After about 15 minutes and making direct eye contact with a waitress behind the counter multiple times, we walked out and not once did anyone try and stop us or speak to us. I had a coupon with Uber eats so I said why not. Once I ordered I waited 20 minutes for updates. It then said it would be delivered on the range of 1 hour from order time (fine) to 1 hour 45 min from order time (not fine). So I saw the button to pick up myself so I drove out there to pick it up because it said estimated ready and I arrived about 10 min after this... got there and the nice young man working the front said did anyone call you. I said no. He tells me they are out of sirloins. I say okay what other options do I have. He says a bigger bacon wrapped steak. I said that will work. I wait 20 min for them to finish this steak while also watching the chefs more worried about cleaning than hurrying the order. I've also seen them give rolls to people (fyi I paid for rolls) and 24 minutes after I was already there when things were complete I go to check my order and I said are the rolls in here to which he said sorry they are out. I said you've given several away while I've been waiting. He said let me check in the back to where he found a fresh tray miraculously. He offered me a bunch I said a double order would be fine. I then looked through the bag to realize there were three baked potatoes and no mashed ... I had to ask and he said sorry we're out of that too. Good to know. Just a small town cafe, but the food really is home made in house, not a bunch of microwaved frozen food. This place is good to people with kids, too, letting the little ones eat totally free on Thursdays. They are civic minded, run a good clean establishment and they deserve our business! I have been going for breakfast periodically for more than 10 years and this is one of those rare places that understand "crispy" when you order your bacon and "soft" when you order your scrambled eggs! The coffee is good and rich, too, unlike that of many places trying to cut back and water down the brown elixir of life in order to save a few cents. Yippee for the Cotton Patch! My wife's granddaughter, who was visiting from Ft. Worth was with us as we arrived during the height of the Sunday lunch crowd. Luckily, with only 3 in our party so ww were seated right away. Drinks were ordered and they showed up quickly along with rolls, butter, and napkins (asked for by my wife) Our food arrived in an appropriate amount of time.
