My car died and I had it towed to Montclair Auto Shop. I got royally screwed over by the tow company and was very unhappy when I arrived. The people at the auto shop were very nice and professional. They looked at my car, and once they realized that it was totaled, decided to waive the fee to diagnose the car and are storing it there for me until I can get it picked up. They even removed the battery for me free of charge. It gave me hope in humanity again after that horrible towing experience. I would come back to this mechanic again. read more

Although the attendant seemed rather you and didn't quite develop the right people or customer service skills yet, they did an amazing job with my car and I highly recommend supporting this business. Amazing, friendly and quick service at the most reasonable cost in town. As a first time customer, I needed a lot of help - breaks, tires, oil, and more. The Montclair auto shop was incredibly friendly and honest. They asked me before performing any work to make sure I was comfortable with the bill. Fixed my breaks for less than half of what my old auto shop would charge. And they referred me to a tire specialist (rather than charging me for a service that would take many days and cost more in-house). MOREOVER, they popped an ugly dent in my front bumper for not a dime extra. Needed an oil change and he was really busy but told me to come back in exactly two hours. I did that and he fit me right in. My check engine light was on too and he plugged in his little machine and fixed my problem right away with no extra fee. He is a very honest mechanic and with a great sense of humor. Came here on a rainy day with my fiance to get an oil change for my 2010 Kia Soul and couldn't believe how awesome Waheed was from the moment we met him! He insisted that we take the car to a Kia dealership and said that they should change the oil for free - he didn't even have to tell us that! We couldn't have done that anyway though since I wasn't the original owner of the vehicle so we stuck with Waheed ^.^ He escorted us with an umbrella to the garage and got to my car pretty quickly considering we didn't even make an appointment. It is just gas and it is quite expensive... But, I have not seen a "full service" option for about a decade! Premium self-serve was $4.98 Premium Full Service was $5.22. I didn't take them up on the full service, so I don't know how "full" it is - don't know whether they wash your windows or check your oil or tire pressure. But just seeing the Full Service label gets them 4 stars. Also, being the only convenient quick gas stop off of Highway 13 is a big plus as well. read more

My really old 2009 Camry has not been having the best time and my a/c just broke. I have been trying to find an affordable and good auto shop in the bay area and happened upon this yelp page. Because of the great reviews I decided to try and I was not disappointed. Waheed is probably the nicest, funniest, and fair mechanic I have ever met. He really went the distance and was honest with the pricing as well as the labor. If anything when I got my bill I thought it was wrong because he charged his labor for way under I was expecting and I honestly felt kind of guilty! Unfortunately the neighborhood gas station auto shop mechanic is getting harder to find these days but I stumbled onto Waheed at Montclair 76 a year ago when I had a battery go dead close to his station. This week my check engine/trac off lights went on and I went straight to him. Last year the diagnosis, from another shop, for a similar problem ran me $275 but he quoted $40 so that was my first break....his price on the ignition coil, which he got from Lexus, was within a dollar of the cost last year but his labor cost was much less. After I dropped off my car he offered to drive me back home. He's very knowledgeable but he will not take on anything that's outside his area of knowledge. Fantastic shop, So straightforward and they don't scam you at all. Nice people, great vibe. Waheed is the BEST, so personable and neighborly. My son and I have them do everything. It's not a fancy shop, but it's excellent service. Highly recommend. When you get there, expect it to be pretty busy, and they'll say 'take a seat' at one of the outdoor chairs in the lot. I brought my van to Montclair Auto Shop after I took it to another shop (Precision Auto in San Leandro) to fix the AC and give me a safety check as I'm about to drive across the country. Precision told me that there is so much wrong with the van, don't fix anything, just drive it until it blows up and get a new van. They didn't even want to work on it. I know it's a 25 year old work van and there are plenty of things with it that are less than perfect but it doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to run and not leave me stranded. Waheed took my van in the next day, fixed the AC by the end of day and informed me of the few things that were wrong with it but said I would be fine on my trip as long as I topped off the fluids and got my oil changed part way through. He also gave me a lot of other useful tips for my trip and said to call him anytime if I had any questions while I was on the road and he would help me out. This is how you gain a customer for life. He used to work at the Chevron Station in Berkeley on Ashby Ave @ Domingo Ave. He has worked on all of my cars - 89 Toyota Camry, 1998 Nissan Frontier and now my 2000 Kia Sephia. He is a very professional and honest man. He always explains everything about my car and what it needs in a manner that always puts me at ease. I always feel he is taking care of me and my car. He has another mechanic working with him named Billy who is also very professional and honest (and has a great sense of humor!). FIVE STARS. For multiple reasons. First off, I came in a HOLIDAY. The engine light and tire pressure lifts came on in my car right before I was to take a 7 hour drive back to LA. Naturally I felt a bit uneasy about going to a new mechanic, but Salim told me to come in ASAP. Not only did he give me a full diagnosis of the cars issues, but he even checked the tire pressure at no charge. He deemed the car "drivable to get back to LA" and have my mechanic at home do some work when I have the coin. I heard another customer say "it's a holiday! You should charge double" Salim replied "No! Opposite! It's a holiday, today we help people." Not your average mechanic. Could not give more thumbs up. Businesses like this stay open and flourish. Waheed is a gem. I hesitate to share this because he is the best kept secret in Oakland. I have taken my car to him several (maybe 6-7) times and he is always more than reasonable when it comes to price, he's knowledgeable, he's fast. Btw- I have an older car. He always tries to save me money. For example, I wasn't passing smog and we thought I needed a new catalytic converter. He told me to drive my car out on 880 and come back and maybe I could clear a lot of the gunk away and pass smog. I had to finally ask him to please just sell me a catalytic converter. I appreciate that he's always trying to be helpful. He is a good person to the core. They don't make mechanics like Waheed anymore. I will not take my car anywhere else. read more

'tis a ConocoPhillips station. This gas-station has gas, an auto body repair shop, a kiosk for your air and water needs, and a snack shop too. It's conveniently located near the Park Blvd off-ramp from Hwy 13. You can see these iron-wrought animal art-works on an island off Mountain Boulevard, directly parallel to this gas station. I've never seen this at any other gas station. Uniqueness in Montclair indeed. read more

The only thing you have to be aware of is that he runs a small shop, and is very busy (which can translate into longer wait times than other shops). I REALLY love this shop, I called to get an estimate of what the Honda dealer told me I needed to have done and Waheed gave me a price that was about 4 times less than the dealer. I told him what the dealer suggested and he said he would take a look. He replaced all fluids like I asked but he said the thermostat was fine and if it started showing problems to come back but it had no signs of wear. I appreciated his honesty and his reasonable prices. I am always a skeptic and this was my first time here so when I got home I popped the hood to make sure the new hoses were put in and they were. Waheed is awesome. I brought my squealing Subaru to him in the hopes that he could do something magical to it in the ten minutes I had before leaving to go skiing in Tahoe. Turned out that the power steering belt needed adjusting. Waheed tweaked a few things and the squeal disappeared. I would highly recommend this auto shop to anyone in the area. I went to get a flat tire fixed after I had put on the spare, and also was in need of an oil change. He was very genuine and helpful. I told him I needed a new tire, but he asked to see the old tire first. He let me know that they could repair the old tire with no trouble. He also let me know that my other tires were running low and offered to fill them up as well. They finished repairing my tire, filled up the others, and completed my oil change all in about 25 minutes all for under $60! And to top it off, while I was paying for the service, he gave me the advice of telling mechanics to "inspect" or "advise me" on my tire instead of telling them to fix it because some mechanics will just say you need a whole new tire, keep your old one and sell it to someone else. Overall, I really appreciated the service and will definitely be back. read more

Do not patronize this establishment. It is unfriendly to elderly people. I stopped in there on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 and went walked to use the men's restroom. When I ask to use the restroom the 4 (four) attendants on duty told me that it would be about 5 minutes - after seven minutes had passed I asked them again and they told me it would be another 15 minutes. At that time I told them "I really needed to urinate badly", at which time one of the attendants said, "If you really need to go that bad you better 'run down' to the Standard service station" - at that comment all the attendants proceeded to laugh. I am under the impression that they thought it was funny that they made me wait that long and that I might at some point have to pee on myself. I left there very angry and thinking why would anyone want to treat another person that inhumanly. Also during the same I while my issue was unfolding I noticed an elderly lady trying to get some help at the pump; waving to get their attention and nobody made an move to go outside to attend to her. There were four people there. The first was a little fat guy inside sitting on a stool on the right side using the phone laughing and jabbering; there were other two people working (?), talking and laughing while staring under the hood of a car, and straight across in the backroom there was another gentleman who didn't seem to care what was going on at the pump or anywhere else in the station. All these A-holes were a stone's throw from one another. When I walked away they were all still laughing at me. I had bought gas from this station in the past and even then noticed then that the people working were rude and inattentive - being happy only to accept the cash when paying for fuel. They gave nothing extra, no "thank-you", "have a good day" or anything. This is the first time I've had any interaction with them other than putting fuel in my truck and it was horrible. Do not give this people another dime. They don't care about you, me or anyone - just your money. Note: 1) The restroom was not being cleaned or anything because they did not tell me so. 2) There was nobody else in there. The issue was they didn't want to take the time out to give me the key (?) I've so far complained to the state and am getting ready to contact any federal bureau that can penalize or fine this outfit. They are undeserving to having any business that services the public. If anyone has any other ideas of how to handle this please leave me a message on this review panel, I'll check it every couple of days. read more

I have taken 2 cars to this shop. Waheed is super friendly and helpful. The first time, I took my older Toyota Camry in because the seat was stuck in a reclining position. Waheed charged me less to fix the problem than another shop quoted to diagnose the problem! The second visit was to fix the radio which had stopped working in my town and country mini-van. Yes, their gas is a little more than any station, but I don't mind. I get someone who will add oil to my car and a wonderful old-school mechanic who keeps it running when others would have given up on it. They are especially helpful to us who don't understand what goes on under the hood. PS-Those with handicapped plates don't pay extra for full service during regular business hours. After reading all the good yelp reviews I came here last fall to have my brakes checked after I started hearing some squealing. I was told I needed new front and rear brake pads and a new air filter. That's when I started getting suspicious because I had just changed my air filter a few months earlier. I took my car to another mechanic and he said I needed new rear brake pads but my front brake pads were at 8mm - nowhere near the point where they needed to be replaced. I'd strongly advise getting another opinion from another mechanic before getting any work done here. read more
