A very small and cute local cafe that focuses on using fresh produce in their dishes. Seating available indoor or outdoor in those nice days. All staff were really kind and patient when we were examining the menu. Ordered the Tri-tip steak sandwich, turkey club, strawberry lemonade, baked potato soup. Food was mediocre, Tri-Tip sandwich 4/10- I would expect more tri tip in the sandwich, it was mainly mushrooms and kale.Very bland. Turkey club- 7/10 better than the tri tip sandwich but still lacked flavor. Baked potato soup 7/10 a basic potato soup with no toppings. Strawberry lemonade 7/10 only thing with flavor but very sweet. Even though this place seem to be a favorite by locals and staff we're oh so kind, I would like more flavor for my food. Super cute and homey cafe. We came here after hiking at nearby San Joaquin Miller and I felt really silly driving 2 minutes to get here. I didn't realize it was literally at the end of the hill. The cafe has your usual suspects for breakfast such as French toast, croissant sandwiches and omelets. This was closer to lunchtime so I opted for the hearty breakfast bowl. It was a huge helping of quinoa, black beans, roasted vegetables, cabbage slaw and two perfectly runny eggs. The harissa was spicy and added a good amount of heat. You can add sausage (vegan or regular) but even without, I was full and satisfied. My son couldn't resist the mini cupcakes so we also grabbed the last one - a devils chocolate with raspberry frosting. So delicious and a nice little treat for us to split. My first time here and I would consider coming back. I would come back and try the lunch menu. Today I had the chorizo scramble and my wife had the Parisian. She gave it a thumbs up and said that the croissant held up to the collapsing, egg yolk, and the Dijon mustard added to the taste. She said the Gruyer was also a good cheese compliment. My scramble was good, but not overpowered by the chorizo. Fresh ingredients and the slaw on the side was also a very nice fresh compliment. The potatoes were not crisp the way I Prefer, but they were savory and buttery. As for the space, it was raining so we didn't utilize the space. I think inside there were roughly 6 or seven tables for two occupants each. It's a self serve place really so you place your order take the Flag to your table. They'll bring your food and that's about it. Delicious iced coffee and pastries - they even have gluten-free scones. I enjoyed the raspberry pistachio pastry. We loved the outdoor seating (dog-friendly) as well! Great small location, we stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for a pick-me-up but I hear they are quite busy in the mornings. Staff was kind and answered our questions about the different pastries. My SO and I are absolute regulars here. Whether you're looking for breakfast, brunch, or lunch...they've got your back. Plus if you're looking for something quick, try the egg tarts (vegetarian and sausage options are both good). And if you're lucky, they'll have their Cuban sandwich on their daily specials--the pork is cooked so low and slow that it's just like BUTTAH. I don't recall having anything there over the years that I wouldn't readily order again (i.e., that's a good thing!). Seating is inside or outside, but know that it's a tad limited. We are usually able to get a table, but a couple times have eaten standing up at the rail between the counter and the inside dining area (or eating there until a table opens). The counter help does seem to have a lot of turnover, but there are a few people who have been there for a long time who always recognize us and say hi. Check it out. Cute! After hiking at Joaquin Miller Park, we wanted a quick, filling, healthy lunch so we stopped by L'acajou after finding them on Yelp. Parking: super easy. There's paid parking on the street in front. $3 per hour. They've got all the cafe staples: sandwiches, pastries, coffees, teas. They've even got some beers here if you're looking to hang out for awhile. When we arrived right after lunch time, a lot of their pastries were sold out too so come early for those. If you're stopping by during lunch, they offer a lunch box special with a burger, chips, & drink for $12. I went with the chicken sandwich on sourdough ($13). I liked it! It seems like the kind of sandwich that could be made at home - but in a good way. Like, it definitely seems fresh and I really liked the aioli they put on it. (We were visiting) Service was slow, but all the people were very nice. I like that they have a variety of creamers - like oat milk - on the counter, and liquid sweeteners too(like honey). A lot of the baked goods were delicious! Everyone loved the almond croissant! It's unfortunate that the breakfast danishes didn't live up to expectations- they looked so good, but the eggs were hard and rubbery, as was the bready parts. Food is fine, menu is simple and has all of the usual brunch/lunch staples, the pastries are delicious, but it's the long wait that you have to prepare yourself for. I walked in on what seemed like a not so busy Monday morning and ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches and a juice. The juice was up quickly but the sandwiches took 34 minutes. 34 minutes for two breakfast sandwiches is a crazy amount of time to wait for something as trivial as a couple of croissants with egg on them. I'm not sure what happened that it took this long but this had happened one time before and it caused me to be late. I swore then, I wouldn't go back because of the long wait but apparently my amnesia got the better of me. After about 10 minutes one of the workers came by and said they didn't have buns ready if I was open to other bread, so I went with the baguette. Solid place. I don't think I felt like it stood out to be a 5, but it's a place I would return to. The patio outside was nice, easy to get to. There was a bit of line, but it went quickly. The cashier maybe seemed a little overwhelmed, and she overcharged me for a tart that I didn't end up getting/ordering. I mentioned it to her, and she was very nice about removing it. The sweet pastries were good, can't complain. We got the almond croissant. The savory tarts looked good but didn't quite hit the spot, maybe if I had it fresh and hot it would be more enjoyable. This was my first time at L'acaju Bakery & Cafe. This place is small. It has a few tables inside (about 5 or 6 tables, from what I remember). There is a little space outdoors with 2 or 3 tables. There was a decent variety of food options on the menu. My husband and I bought the bowl with quinoa, beans, two eggs, pickled cabbage, and a few other items. It came out fast and the food was delivered to our table. Flavorwise, it was decent. It was priced on the higher end. My friend bought a tart that had an egg and cheese on it. It looked good and she said it tasted fine. I would go back for the chocolate croissant. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I didn't order my food at the front so I didn't get to check out the kitchen area, but I heard that they make their pastries there. I can tell. I wish I lived closer so I could buy one every day! Parking is not plentiful. There is a parking lot close by, but I saw only two parking spots assigned for this shop and then the rest of the spots were assigned to other shops. I have no idea if we could get in trouble if we park in those other spots. Either way, there is street parking available. The staff was nice and attentive. Initially, they forgot to give us our chocolate croissants but one of the workers eventually stopped by to bring them to us. read more

I think the best thing about this bakery and café was the staff was extremely friendly and kind. The actual inside is nice too with an open friendly vibe of lots of sunlight able to come in and seem like a great place for locals and people to sit and talk. I was a little disappointed in the food and drinks. I did not get a pastry however I got a dirty chai and I didn't particularly care for the taste, but the staff was really nice and she remade it for me just as a regular iced coffee because I figure you can't go wrong with that. I also got a salad that was pretty tasty. Honestly, though the staff and the environment made it nice, but I wouldn't say they had the best drinks or food. Whether it's for brunch, a place to catch up with friends or just to have a little snack, L'acajou Bakery will satisfy it all. Many selections from sandwiches, soups, salads, savory and sweet pastries, there will be something good for everyone. Fudge brownie was one of the best we've ever had! Perfect amount of sweetness with the ooey gooey fudge and crunchy edges - we just couldn't stop. Definitely a must-get item. Initially ordered the potato leek soup but they sold out. So I ended up trying the clam chowder. Fresh ingredients that was so creamy and hearty. Just what I needed to warm up my soul. The open face savory tart one had mushrooms, potatoes, spinach and sunny side up eggs. This is disappointing because it was very dry and almost stale. I wasn't sure if it was left overs from the other day, but it definitely tasted. The egg was pretty rubbery. Would return to try some other things on the menu. read more

I would give this place more stars except that there is one barista who always makes the worst drinks. My chai was made with cold water this morning? No vanilla in my vanilla latte and made my kids steamed milk so hot. This is not a one off thing otherwise I'd wouldn't say anything. But it's consistently bad when she is making the drinks. I was just there and ordered a sandwich, coissant, and cupcake to go, to be picked up after getting my haircut. The sandwich was fine; nothing special, on a coissant. The seperate coissant I ordered was a bit over baked, but edible, but again, nothing special. The cupcake was the issue. When I came home and opened the box, which had been carefully placed in the bottom of the bag, I found the cupcake was icing-side down. Really? They left it that way? That obviously didn't care enough to give me another cupcake properly placed instead? I've also asked, several times, about having a Little Free Library space there, which I think customers would love as it might draw singles who would read while they eat. The owners have never bothered to respond to me I go there as it is on the way to my hairdresser, but they really do need to improve. They are overpriced for sandwiches that are undersized. It's fine if you're in the neighborhood, but I certainly wouldn't send anyone out of their way to go there, which is too bad as it could be lovely. Small and quaint with an outdoor seating area (it also had some water bowls for dogs if you would like to bring your furry friends). I got a cold brew and the parisian sandwich. My compatriots got the chorizo scramble and the other the spinach omelette. -The sandwich is incredible. Perfect balance of acid and savory. I will say a little small for the cost but as a one off, it was worth it. -Got a few bites of the chorizo scramble and it was delicious. I would honestly go with the scramble over the parisian given the amount of food and also the taste. The cabbage slaw is a light side dish and the potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. -One of the best cold brews that I have had in a while. My son and I were looking for somewhere to eat lunch after I picked him up from school. I have been curious to stop by this place before since it is down the hill from Joaquin Miller Park. We came during a time that was not too busy, but there were still options to pick from various baked goods and order from the kitchen. My salad was a good standard Cobb minus the bleu cheese but I suspect the salad dressing may have been laced with it. The children's burger was a good size but the sourdough was not child friendly. I received a nice $5 birthday offer & decided to utilize it with a dirty chai & almond croissant. The Dirty Chai had a fresh ginger taste, which can seem a little strong (a spicy burn), but for those who are lactose intolerant, ginger helps with lactose issues. I haven't had a Dirty Chai that had such a nice ginger component & I have to say I like their unique approach to this drink. By popular recommendation, I decided to order the Almond Croissant.
