This place sits in my heart as another Latina-owned and local business that everyone appreciates. I love how aesthetic they made their coffee shop, despite it being in such a small space. They promote so much culture and honestly I do not take any of that for granted. When Cafe Cordoba down the street is closed or too full at times, I usually go to this coffee shop. Their cafe de ollas are also the best in the nation as well -- hence, why I go to them so much more often. If you want to go for the pastries, go early though -- they usually either run out by mid-morning or even before. The hospitality at this coffee shop is top-notch. They literally make you feel at home, and their sandwich portions and their dessert portions are humongous. Any kind of cafecito you want? They got you. Feeling salty craving? They also got you as well. I love this place a lot, and it's definitely a staple to the Fruitvale community in Oakland.

    Veggie sandwich and chipotle sandwich

Such a cute spot! I immediately felt at home when I walked inside, with the smell and decor feeling so familiar. The staff was very kind, and the food was delicious!! Their veggie sandwich is packed with perfectly seasoned veggies, and the baguette gives it great texture. The chipotle chicken sandwich was the best chipotle my boyfriend has ever had (and he loves a chipotle sandwich), not to mention, the cafe de olla was everything I needed and more. Will definitely be returning to this lovely spot.

Chipotle Sandwich and El Despreciado Sandwich

This place is amazing! I found it on a whim. It is very cutely decorated inside and looks to be family run. All workers are friendly and attentive. I ordered the chipotle chicken sandwich and my boyfriend got the el despreciado sandwich. Both were DELICIOUS, well sized and came with a side salad. I had to take half of mine to go and I loved that they were filling, but not too heavy. The side salad was delicious and helped that light portion size compared to potatoes or chips. I will definitely be coming back to try some of their pastries and another sandwich!

Came for the chia pudding ! If you guys never tried it, you are missing out ! I love how there are two locations . More options to choose from . I love their chicken sandwich but also their Vietnamese coffee is really good and not too sweet . Definitely support this small business . Walking in you are always greeted by kind and friendly faces . Ambiance and decor is so homey I love it !

Such a cute, little cafe with great food and drink. Good quality produce! Will definitely come again! Wish I lived closer to this place. Oh and the owners and family were so sweet they gave me samples while I waited for my food

I love coming here. The ambience is perfect for a work from home session. The food is delicious and the staff is super friendly. And love the overall vibe and decor. A little gem in East Oakland.

Loved that we got to stop by! It has ma and pa charm you don't find often anymore. The cultural decor, homey atmosphere, and service makes it feel warm and inviting, like stepping into someone's kitchen. The food was incredibly fresh, and you could genuinely tell how thoughtfully everything was prepared. The homemade dressings were spot on--full of flavor and adds the extra layer that sets this place apart.

What a great find! This café is such a vibe--cozy, stylish, and welcoming. I had the Cobb salad and it was absolutely delicious--fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced flavors. The decor is charming and adds so much character to the space. I can't wait to come back with my daughter!

The owner is so nice. You can come here to grab you a sandwich, a breakfast sandwich, a croissant, so coffee or some Mexican coffee which was delicious she so kind to give me a sample. You can order some Chia Fruit! My favorite thing here to order it the The Lox Bagel, with the salmon, capers, cream cheese, on an Everything Bagel! The customers service is amazing and the owner also voluntarily gave me a sample of the Chia with fruit and it was good.

I got the chicken curry salad sandwich. The best chicken curry salad I have ever had hands-down and I've had a lot. I think they put watercress in it, but I'm not sure. I recently developed an allergy to onion and, unfortunately, onion is the only ingredient not listed to remove on the Saint Francis sandwich (on their website). I decided to call to place a pickup order so I could mention the allergy. The man who picked up the phone refused to take an order insisting that I must place my order online. I explained there wasn't the option to remove the ingredient and was worried since I had an allergy. He argued that I was mistaken, and I could edit the order online or order a "build your own sandwich" (without acknowledging the additional cost for such a thing). I mentioned the inaccessibility of such a system and that I truly wasn't seeing the option to remove ingredients. He spent longer arguing with me over the phone than it would have been to take my order over the phone. Eventually, I relented, and placed an online order stating in the "notes to seller" (the only way to edit an order in this case) no onion on the Saint Francis sandwich. There was onion on my sandwich. Maybe instead of believing they need to be right, they should just listen to the customer and try to accommodate.

He couldn't find the location of the restaurant on his mobile phone, so I called to find out where were they located. (Location is near the BART Station. It used to be a Chinese restaurant.) He was eager to try the bison stew. We didn't arrive at the restaurant until 1:45, 15 minutes before they were closing. Perusing the menu, we decided to order two bowls of bison stew. The choice of side was fry bread, tortilla, tortilla chips or cornbread. Since it was almost closing time, the waitress brought only one bowl of bison stew and the frybread. They ran out of the stew. My date didn't get cornbread. He was disappointed and somewhat wasn't feeling like having anything. Well, I don't operate like that - eat and don't share what I am having. Mama taught me better. The waitress brought a small bowl and a serving utensil, so my date and I could enjoy the stew and frybread. When I am blessed, the blessing is shared. My date and I never had frybread. He wasn't sure about the frybread. Myself, I am adventurous in eating something that I am willing to try the first time. The bison stew and frybread were bomb-diggity delicious. So tasty and perfectly seasoned that I wanna slap the cook and his/her mama. (Figuratively speaking. LOL) Minor drawback: Flatware was not provided. I can't slurp hot piping stew from the bowl. Asked and we received. It was all good. Return visit: Mos Def, and I am not talking about the rapper. That bison stew is hella delicious. There are no words to describe the frybread, as it left me grinning from ear to ear. Besides, there are other items on the menu I would like to enjoy, and savor the flavorings of delicious food. Bon appetite!
