I've been taking both my dogs here for years to see Dr. March. I absolutely love the staff and the fact that they do not nickel and dime you like most vets in this day and age do. Both dogs have had teeth cleanings and extractions, small surgery to remove a benign lump, annual exams with vaccines, etc. Unfortunately, I had to have my mini schnauzer put to sleep at the beginning of this year due to her developing lymphoma. Dr. March and her vet tech were very informative about each step and compassionate during this whole process. You can tell everyone that works here, genuinely loves animals. Please note, they are not an emergency vet like Sage is. You can call right when they open and try to get an urgent same day appointment. I think based on the negative reviews posted here regarding this, that will explain it a bit better (not an emergency vet). read more

We switched over to Montecito, on my sister's recommendation, after going to another vet in Walnut Creek for years; having been frustrated with the lack of communication at our previous vet. We are very impressed with everyone from the vet, to the assistant vet, to the young lady at the front desk. Everyone has been very kind and truly loves animals. A few things have stood out to us. One was that our cat had a bit of an accident in her carrier but they took the initiative to remove the soiled towel, tie it up on a plastic bag, and put a pee pad down. Our vet before never did that. I also was impressed by the young lady at the front desk who was extremely kind and understanding when I called with questions about a medication Kit was prescribed. (I am a nervous mother!) We decided to switch to a liquid formulation and the new prescription was ready within a few hours after calling. They are truly responsive and will call when they say they will. read more

You check in outside the door. You wait in your car which seemed frustrating at first. There are long waits for morning appointments but not for afternoon appointments. Once in the office, the staff is fantastic. Our puppy loves going there. There's no issue with other dogs not getting along since you wait outside or in your car. Now I like the idea. I used to be very skeptical about veterinarians. Over the years, Montecito animal clinic has really, truly gained my trust. I genuinely feel that they care about my dog and I, and that their recommendations are always in my dog's best interest. They aren't pushy and they don't nickel and dime me. While some vet's almost always tell you to make an appointment if you have any sort of question/concern, the staff here are very generous with their advice; they understand that it's not always easy/affordable to make an appointment. They are patient with me when I'm nervous and have so many questions, they help me understand what's going on when the information is overwhelming, and lastly they are very thorough with their examinations and making sure all my pets needs are met. This goes for the whole staff: the front desk team, technicians and the Drs/Vets themselves. I am so thankful for the entire staff at this clinic. read more

The staff were very caring and sweet. The vet herself, skinny with glasses, just acted like she was working on a car with my cat. He was there to be euthanized, unfortunately, which was already taxing. She said he will feel a slight sting. Once she stuck the needle in he was in tremendous pain based on his sounds. She couldn't do it properly and he was yowling in pain. She tried two other areas of his body and finally got the needle in. This was just the sedative. After that he was out and she gave him the final shot. He was put down, but it was an awful experience. We sat in the exam room for about an hour, when you just want to get the horrible time over with thats not ideal. Anyway that's how my visit went. read more

My dog had a horrible lesion on his eye, and needed to be seen soon and their next available appointment was in six weeks. I asked about emergency appointments and was told still six weeks out. Avoid, run away, if you care about your pet health! Very unprofessional vets, I even wonder why they call themselves veterinaries. They do not bother to really check your pet health or look into and diagnose problems. They are not about your pet health just want money for appointments, prescriptions and shots. I visited them with my dog having an ear infection, visit them a number of times with the same problem - ear infection. Some of them did not even bother to look into the dog ear! There "diagnosis" was : it is allergy, and the solution was just buy from them an anti-allergy medicine. Appointments went like that: - no exam of the ear with naked eye or fingers, or anything, - no ear exam with otoscop, - no ear swab examination, - nothing, no attempt to figure out what it is actually going on in the ear. I wondered, could it be grass seed, or maybe ear mice, or bacteria, or fungus, or something else? Somehow magically they knew that it was an allergy and therefore the dog needs the medicine I should buy from them. Just like that! Does this kind of service looks like medical professional service to you? The medicine they prescribe is very powerful, a last resort for incurable allergies. It works on very base of ALL immune system - T-cells and therefore might have very very serious side effects for an animal. It should be prescribed for only sever cases. BTW, Interesting enough when asked about side effects of the medication they prescribed they seemed have a slightest idea nor did they ever heard about T-cells this medication woks on! You would expect from a doctor to know at least basics about animal immune system, would you? Obviously not everybody has to know how immune system works but veterinaries that are in complete dark on the matter seems al least not effective if not dangerous to animals health. read more

IT'S IMPORTANT TO READ THIS REVIEW. DO NOT GO HERE. I just got back from a visit with Dr. Karen Shore. I went in because my dog has a tight corkscrew tail that grew inward. This type of tail is common in Frenchies and is prone to infection which makes the area smell. Dr. Shore's cure to this was to just buy her prescription dog food after aggressively cleaning out my dog's tight tail and making him bleed to which she said "oops I made you bleed puppy". She did not examine the tail at all but instead fully explained how my dog had to be on this special dog food only she sold for 12 weeks. In the meantime my dog's tail is bleeding, in pain and possibly infected. I was not given any medicine or solution for his tail pain. It hurt me to trust someone so careless with my dog. She also did an anal gland on the spot without asking me or letting me know it was an extra charge. This visit was rushed and careless. My dog is crying in pain right now. read more

I just called here and tell them about an potentially serious issue my cat just started having, and they tell me that for new customers they are booking 4 weeks out. What the? The lady I talked to didn't even seem to care at all about the issue my cat is having and had no problem at all letting me off the phone when I told her he needs to be seen sooner then that. So the actual vet may be good, but I wouldn't know because I have an animal in need of a vet visit and this place wasn't willing to take on a pet in need of a quick treatment. Not very pleased with the staff, didn't care, no suggestions, nothing. I would say, don't call there 20 minutes before they close, it sounded like she just wanted to close up the office. I am both a dog and a cat person and my family has had some great ones. And many have lived very full and long lives. Each appeals to a different part of me and being my dog's person or a member of my cat's staff is really fun and fulfilling. On the cat side, Kelly and Pumpkin lived to past 18 and one of my current ones (Socks) is hanging in there at 17+. My Mom and Dad had 2 great dogs (Nick and Lady) who made also made it into their teens. Yet there eventually comes the time when you have to say goodbye to your beloved animal companion. And so it was a few years ago with Whisper who I very reluctantly had "put to sleep" here at the Montecito Animal Clinic at age 18+. She had lived a good life, but was now old, in considerable pain, and unfortunately except for me, alone. This was the dog who remembered the several block route from her house to my front door when I started dating my son's mother. Whisper was also there to welcome my newborn son back from the hospital and was the one who would entertain the kids at the park by climbing up the structure and going down the slide. The folks at the Montecito Animal Clinic were very kind, empathetic, and respectful when it was time to bring Whisper in for her last appointment. And they let me take all the time we needed. I held her paw and cried and cried as she peacefully drifted away... What a great dog.....and we couldn't have been in better hands. read more

My wiener dog is constantly breaking. If its not smelly arm pits its a bladder infection. If its not a bladder infection its a broken tooth. Shes going to be 4 years old soon. 4 years of pure joy....most of the time. Thankfully I've had Montecito there to help me through all the unjoyful times. Like when she ate the stitches out of her tummy and had a gapping hole. I had to rush her down to get all stitched up again. These people are unbelievable. First they can't find me in their system, even though I had been a client in the past 3 years. So they want to charge me a "new patient" surcharge. Bogus! Then when I asked for a ballpark cost for neutering a male cat the receptionist refused to even give me a range or any idea at all at what the cost would be. That is ridiculous. This is a common service and they can't give someone an idea of what it *might*cost!? Talk about lack of transparency and terrible customer service. read more

After reading the reviews here and at Bay Area Consumer Checkbook, we brought our cat, Boris, here for a spleen removal. We drove over from San Francisco with an unhappy cat howling in the back seat, but the 1 hour drive saved us $3,000. They have some of the best prices in the bay area, yet provide excellent care. Dr. Shore to the rescue this time. My 15 year old cat Scooter was having bloody stools, not eating, hiding in the bathtub. Dr. Shore got blood samples, couldn't feel anything unusual in his stomach, gave us medication for the stools and an appetite stimulant. Within 3 days he was back to his happy self. The blood test did indicate some kidney problems which a k/d diet should take care of. Also she made another appointment for us to have an x-ray just to make doubly sure nothing serious was going on. Nothing is. I know Scooter is elderly but I also know the people at Montecito will take the best care always. read more

Montecito Animal Clinic is "The Best". I have been coming here for 40 years to this location. The quality of the staff and Veterinarians is super. I find they are efficient with appointment times and documentation that I need. The Vets are gentle, caring, and very knowledgeable and are very good at determining the proper care for the dog I love. I just recently attended a Friday clinic to update the vaccines for my dog. The cost for the vaccine was $20 for my Welch Corgi and I was in and out in 10 minutes. I highly recommend Montecito and all the Veterinarians there. read more
