I can't believe somebody decided to update their review during this pandemic to 2-stars.

My boyfriend and I placed an order for deliver through door dash around 10ish, said our order was going to be delivered at 1130. We never recieved our order. Contacted door dashcustomer service come to find out that they never even prepared our food. I mean, common have the decency to call to tell us you cant complete our order. After a busy day, not receiving dinner is absolutely terrible. If you're going to do your business through door dash. avoid this place at all cost. Especially if you're hungry. Oh, and if you're wondering about their food? It's just alright. It's expensive as all hell, youd be better off getting authentic food from a food truck. Surely, if you don't mind spending 3.25 for 1 street taco, then you must be a baller because at food trucks theyre only about 2.00...if that. read more

This was my favorite Mexican food spot in Berkeley and believe me that is high praise! This place tends to be pricier that most Mexican food spots, it isnt pretentious and boujie and it's so worth it. They have a large menu and so many vegetarian options and the aguas frescas are always on point! The ambiance is also really great (it is more of a sit down place) but seating is pretty limited. I walked in expecting at least a decent Mexican meal. I walked out thoroughly disappointed. Paid $23 for two burritos; even though we got a few add-ons, there is no real justification to charge this much for burritos. I ordered an al pastor burrito with sour cream. The order came wrapped in aluminum foil and was rather big. After I opened the foil, I was already disappointed. The flour tortilla was about as thick as a piece of paper and was steamed, meaning it was only time it would give out and spill all over my plate. Once it did, I continued to eat and was getting no flavor from any of the ingredients. (I should note that this 'al pastor burrito' was more rice and beans than actual meat) Long story short, DO NOT COME HERE. You are better off paying for a cheaper burrito at Burro Picante or Tacos Sinaloa, both of which will give you more than 5 chunks of meat in your meat burrito. Pretty disappointed I paid so much here, so don't make the same mistake I did. read more

I don't normally do reviews,but when its this bad I had to. I have lived in Berkeley for 10yrs and still drive to San Leandro to get my burritos. I stick to what I know that way I'm never disappointed. I decided after all this time to try to find a good burrito spot near me, but boy was i wrong. I paid $16 for a ($10) steak burrito with cheese, sour cream, and guacamole (extra $6) =$16..I guess my first clue should have been that on a Friday night at 7pm and not 1 customer around, should have told me not to eat there. I also have never had a burrito that didn't come with cheese, sour cream, and guac. As i nervously wait in the empty restaurant (where nobody was wearing a mask) my order is ready I grab my bag and inside with my $16 burrito are 5 tortilla chips. Oooh wee I have 5 chips to eat with my burrito!! I get home get ready to eat and bite into my burrito, and I get nothing but rice and beans. I'm still waiting to taste the extras I paid for but that doesn't happen. All I'm tasting 1/4 thru is beans and rice so i use a fork and go searching down thru the burrito for those extras. What a total disappointment!! There was a small amount of cheese and a tiny amount of guac, I'm talkin tablespoonful. I never did spot any sour cream. Needless to say I couldn't stomach the rest of the burrito ( i mean rice n beans) after my search came up dry and I tossed the burrito in the garbage. I wish I was able to get a refund, thats how upset and hungry I am, but I know how that goes. The El Monterey 8pack frozen burritos they sell in the store taste better than this one did, seriously. I decided on this place after reading the reviews so I hope this was just an off night for them. I cant honestly recommend this place and definitely will not be a return customer. This is my topmost favorite taqueria, so much in fact, that I have made the trek from SF to Berkeley just to enjoy the delicious super burrito. The black beans are the best I've ever had, and their chipotle salsa is unmatched. I took my BF here recently, and he concurred-best taqueria in the Bay. First time visiting this location recently. The food was ok. However, there were ants all over the table. While dining, a crackhead came in through the door, yanked a piece of aluminum foil off of the table where a man and his wife were dining and proceeded to go back by the garbage bins to light up IN THE ESTABLISHMENT! I went to the counter to let them know and they immediately told the guy to leave. He dug through the bins (with his crack still lit), pulled out a half-eaten burrito and took it with him. I appreciated that they wiped the door handles and even the table outside where he temporarily placed his crack or heroin to pick up his bike. The other guests were quite appalled and so was I and the workers. Next time, for the sake of your customers, after wiping surfaces with drug residue, please either discard your wet rag or replace it with a new one instead of proceeding to wipe other tables. Though the prices can be a little high once done w/ your food, there'll be a satisfying sigh So don't hesitate to get your mexican food here All you need to do is grab a menu and "Leer" ("to read" in spanish) So I found this place just by driving by university and I was hungry. I must say that their carnitas burrito is one of the tastiest I've had. It's tasty and slightly crispy and you can actually taste the carnitas! I say that with amazement because it's usually hard to eat burritos and clearly taste the meat without a lot of other stuff drowning it out yet the carnitas were distinct and delicious! The chips are unlimited, though they give you really small bowls and portions. Yet they make up for it with their salsa bar which is really good! I give this place a 4. The only thing is I swear the cooks think they on the place because there is just enough meat to make it OK. So it can be better if they put more meat. I really dig Taqueria Monte Cristo, Let me tell you why, because I think you'll dig it too. The hostess/cashier is always super friendly and there's never much of a wait. The food is very reasonably priced and comes out in 5 minutes or less, every time. They're also open pretty late, and are good for a late night burrito-massacre. My favorite is the "Wet" Poblano Mole Burrito. It's MASSIVE. Sort of like eating a chinchilla covered in spicy delicious chocolatey mole sauce. You get chips and salsa cups with the burrito and their salsa bar has 3-5 delicious salsas. my favorites are their medium salsa and the avocado salsa. Wash it down with some cafe de leche or a cold beer and you'll be comatose for at least a few hours, so make sure to go late in the day. I think they have salsa dancing as well, but I don't want to make everyone else feel bad about their lack of dancing skills, so I refrain. I just went there for a cinco de mayo feast and it was awesome! They even had some tables set up outside, which was perfect on a cool night. Go check it out! read more

Overall, the entree was very satisfying, and it was fairly large... nice touch when they give one salsa, guac, AND sour cream. Took it to go; price wasn't too fun to pay for one thing: $9.25! Over the past year, every other Monday was 'burrito Monday' and seeing that Taqueria Monte Cristo was my lady friend's most favorite burrito joint, I have had many occasions to sample their wares. I agree that every now and then, the meat on the burritos has been a bit unsatisfactory -- once, the chicken was bone dry, another time the carne asada was crispy -- but overall and most of the time, the burritos are fantastic. Everything is flavorful, I am never disappointed by the amount of sour cream and guac, and the service is super friendly. As I said, I have become a regular, and the people working there recognize me and are accordingly nice and friendly. The salsa bar is great.. The avocado salsa is out of this world. The dining room is pretty casual and well-lit, not exactly a date or romantic spot, but is quiet enough to hold a conversation, which is a plus in my book. For you East Coasters, they do 'wet' burritos (slathered in salsa/sauce, rather than wrapped in foil). This concept is blasphemy to me as a Bay Area native, but to each his own and all of that. :P read more

Since it's the same owners as La Mission and almost exactly the same menu just drive down there! I've been coming here for almost 10 years. Almost every single time they forget something in my order. Today it was the sour cream I paid extra for in my burrito. Last time it was the guacamole I requested on the side of my taco salad-- at least that time I was able to see that it was missing and go back in and ask for it. When I have gotten the Taquitos de Mole I have to pay extra for crema, but it comes on it at La Missh They also own Casa Laguna on San Pablo, same menu, same Frida Kalho in the window etc. I keep trying because I live around the corner and I'm hungry read more

Usually when I come here for lunch the food is great, but today my food was anything but great! I ordered the carnitas nachos when my plate arrived to my table the food looked amazing but when I dived into it I was instantly disappointed! I love this place. It's open late. It's close to home. They take call in pick up orders with ease, and they even sell pozole! (but it has meat other than chicken in it FYI) I usually get a chicken burrito with no beans because who really needs beans in a chicken burrito!? The plain one is the best in my opinion. I've had the chili verde one and it was just kind of meh. Haven't tried their tacos yet, but I think I've been avoiding it because I'm worried they won't be anywhere near as delicious as the ones from Tacos el Autlense and it will just break my heart. I was a bit hesitant on ordering the guac as I thought it wouldn't look or taste fresh depending on how long it would be sitting out because of the logistics of it getting to me. I'm glad I ordered the guac because it tasted super fresh and is now in my top 5 best guacs i've had.
