3.5 Stars, honestly. This is a nice central location but not really within walking distance of the aquarium FYI. That wasn't a problem for us. This place is very clean. Very well kept. Staff is accommodating. The beds are comfortable and if you need good pillows like me it was great. The only complaint was the ac it seemed to turn the heater on in the early morning and I woke up hot. I had the windows open but it got too noisy from the road outside. They couldn't valet my truck so I had to self park a couple blocks away. No parking close to hotel. I honestly thought it was very expensive for what it was. A Monday night 300 bucks?! I get it's Monterey but dang. If it wasn't as clean and comfortable as it was I'd be upset. It's not like it's on the beach or you can even see the beach. It's near downtown bars pubs restaurants. I'd probably stay somewhere right on the ocean next trip to Monterey. read more

Meh. Rooms are dated, carpet is disgusting, room service menu is lacking and the electronics in room was also very dated. Asked for a late checkout and they said the latest they could do was 12:00 pm; which is the regular checkout time... Only plus was the staff. Valet, front desk and house keeping staff were excellent. This is an awful hotel. A total ripoff. I booked it because I wanted to go in the hot tub, but when I showed up, I found out that it's closed. But I did have a lovely view of the empty pool and hot tub. The sink leaked all over the counter. The room was so dark that I couldn't see to put on makeup. There is no reason whatsoever to stay near ugly downtown Monterey. Why not stay somewhere beautiful like Carmel? Yuck all around. So much money for absolutely nothing. read more

We had been staying at a nearby hotel when we had a major issue that couldn't be resolved. We ended up leaving and we're going to end our vacation early when I suggested we try the Marriott with my loyalty points. We ended up working with Emily at the front desk and she was AMAZING! I explained our situation and she went above and beyond to get our room upgraded. My kids were so excited about our room. We even extended our trip by a day and our vacation was saved! I had a horrible experience here. Checked out of a Hilton property into this hotel hoping for a great Monterey vacation. Wish I would have stayed at the Hilton. I did not feel welcomed and this hotel was the beginning of Monterey bad experience. Because the front desk staff treated me so bad I felt the city was just terrible. If I can give a negative to a property this would be the time. I just felt maybe front desk was a bit racist and if you're not a person of color you may enjoy this hotel?? Not sure. But I have never been embarrassed to stay at a Marriott property until this location. read more

This past weekend, the love of my life and I celebrated our one year anniversary. Being the incredibly thoughtful man that he is, he booked this whole surprise weekend and would not let me in on it until we arrived. I was so incredibly happy with his selection and a romantic weekend in Monterey to celebrate. We have so much fun together and this weekend was set to be a very special one. He used his Marriot points to upgrade us to a top floor three room suite with full patio with a view of Monterey Bay that was so clear and beautiful. The view was the amazing part, no other room had a patio as large as ours. The room was very comfortable and had a kitchenette, dining room, living room, bedroom, full suite bathroom, multiple flat screens, cordless phones, really soft plush robes and everything furnished all like a posh studio apartment. The bonus points go to Virginia, the hotel concierge who sent us up 6 gourmet chocolate covered strawberries with a very sweet card wishing us a Happy Anniversary. Made us feel like VIP's on our special day. But the props go to the best man, my guy, who carefully planned such a wonderful trip with nothing but the best for us. read more

The walls are extremely thin. This a beautiful hotel and we love the room & ocean view but the walls are so thin! I was awoken by a slamming door at least 6 times because the doors slam shut unless you slowly close them. The walls are so thin I just had to sit here listening to a very loud family hanging out right outside my room chattering very loudly while someone in the group had a video blasting on their phone. In the middle of the night there was a guy yelling and banging on the door across the hall because his girlfriend wouldn't let him in. I forgot my moisturizer and went to use the complimentary lotion provided by the hotel because it's better than nothing but it was nearly empty! So they left a used lotion in the bathroom? The toilet is also not functioning properly and runs extremely loud for about a minute after flushing. I am not kidding when I say the walls here are paper thin and you can hear a mouse fart in the hallway. If you're planning on getting some sleep, this isn't the hotel for you. It's like something in the hallway amplifies the sound and you can hear everything! read more

This was a nice hotel. But my main focus of this review needs to be one of the girls who works there named Emily. This is my first outing with my step mom since she was diagnosed with ALS. It's been really difficult for her to get around because she needs to be either in a walker or a wheelchair. one of her favorite places is the beach and she isn't able to go there anymore because her walker and wheelchair won't allow her. when I went down to ask Emily if she knew of any places that rented beach wheelchairs she went above and beyond what I thought she was going to. she started researching Google searching anything she could to try to find my step mom a beach wheelchair. Unfortunately we weren't able to find one due to things being shut down for covetid. but I'll be forever grateful for Emily for trying to help. She even called later in the evening to ask if we were able to find one. Amazing customer service from Emily. She made this trip a lot easier for us because she was so willing to help. Wow! What a difference a year makes! I was back in Monterey for the third time. The last two times in town I stayed at a more "rustic" inn that fell short of my expectations and I decided to treat myself and check out the Monterey Marriott again. I'm glad I did because this hotel is a real standout once again. I got a great early-week AAA discount on the Marriott website, and my room was perfect. Jamie at the front desk was super during check-in and did some magic on the computer so I got a king-sized bed instead of two doubles, and got me on a high floor to boot. The bed was lovely and so restful with the full complement of Marriott linens. I had a beautiful city view which looked down onto the pool courtyard. I could keep my windows open and it was very quiet. The room was spotless and everything worked perfectly, including the beautiful glass-walled shower with impressive granite tiles. Nice coffee station and mini-fridge. The TV was great (lots of channels!) and room service was perfect (I highly recommend the apple tart and ice cream!). Everyone on staff was very on-point and professional from valet parking (awesome!) to the bellmen. In short, I couldn't have asked for a better getaway. I felt so comfortable and pampered at the Monterey Marriott. The environs were outstanding- the pool and spa were amazing, all of downtown Monterey is in walking distance (including Fisherman's Wharf), and you can smell the salty sea air wherever you go. The hotel is a citadel by the shore, offering guests a wonderful opportunity to relax and restore. read more

STREET NOISE, NOISE, NOISE. If you are a loyalty member, do not stay here! Also, send your enemies here instead. It is amazing to see how many bad loyalty review. Even better, change loyalty to the Hilton chains if you can! OK. So, I have stayed in this place before with no problem. I am a Gold Member Elite and stay at Mariotts frequently for business. I had some points so today 6-17-2022, I asked for the usual: high floor (7) on the quiet side (back of the hotel). What do I get? 7 Floor facing the super noisy pool. I said no way since I know that people are there screaming and yelling all night long until 10 pm. So, the brilliant night manager puts me on the fourth floor facing a super busy street after I try to explain in the simplest of ways why I need the place I asked for 2 nights ago (I called to make sure I had this room). Now, the night manager is an expert at BS. I mean, we are talking about non-stop excuses making. Super creative. Hustler type it seems. Sir, the 7th floor is less noisy because you cannot hear the pool. I said, "did you go out there and listen to it?". Crickets. Then, she tells me that the pool will close at 10pm! So, I have to wait until 10pm? Jesus. This people are clueless. Then, she tells me the street will quiet down around 10pm. It is still going since it is a super busy street. Then, she tells me that she could not find anything else. Then she says asking for two beds is more difficult than one bed. Then she says that it is likely the whole entire floor (we are talking about 30 units) would stay over the weekend. And, on and on and on. Now, I understand that working at a hotel might not be the job of your dreams, but, dude, come on. Be Better! The other front clerk was worst. This moron tried to convince me that some people would check out late until 4:00pm!!! My God. Psychopathic liar. I said I could talk to the general manager in the morning, but I know this would work better since I know about digital marketing advertisement. If you read this (general manager), please put me on the 7th floor facing the quiet side or chances are I will leave another very detailed review. No excuses on my side. read more

We spent the night here on Monday. I can only vouch for the room and valet since it was way too cold for the pool or even the hot tub and we ate dinner at the wharf. Service was very good particularly Emily at the front desk who helped me early in the morning to locate Walgreens where I obtained some badly needed allergy medicine. While we did not go to the pool we were amused by frozen parents whose kids repeatedly defied their orders to GET OUT OF THE POOL! read more

Management staff at this hotel should be replaced. I have been a Marriott member with elite status for years. I travel for work and have been treated great until I walked in the door at Monterey Marriott I was visit family in the area and figured I'd treat the wife to a nice hotel with a suite upgrade reward. No such luck they claimed the reservation was messed up but they would put us in the best room they had and we would have to be okay because it was the best they could do. I then watched as a guest was awarded a free suite upgrade and he stated he might be staying at Marriott more often if they treat you like this. Apparently loyalty at Marriott isn't important and the staff when confronted about this took even longer to get our reservation done. read more

So glad we chose this place to stay the night. Very clean place and room too, the employees here are very nice and hard working. Their bar and restaurant is clean and a good verity of food, everything we ordered was delicious. The breakfast bar has so many selections and everything was good too. The location is amazing! The place is gorgeous and clean and comfy, no doubt. The staff are pretty darn friendly too. But they sure don't go the extra mile by offering incentives to keep guests loyal. Not even any coffee in the lobby? No free breakfast with our $188 room either, which was a good deal more than comparably comfortable rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn. The phone in the room wouldn't issue a dial tone, and the shower head did more seeping than spraying. The wireless was also spotty and unsecured, which is pretty ridiculous considering the volume of government customers. More than once it disrupted my work and web meetings. But their body wash smells sooooooo good and their interior decorating is really nice. The bed was amply comfy as well. read more

The housekeeping staff is very friendly but the valet attendants weren't hospitable. The drive way is a complete cluster especially on a holiday weekend and it took about a 15 minute wait each time we retrieved the car. The rooms were clean but they could use some remodeling. Our elevator lobby had vomit all over the trash can that seemed to be left there for several hours as we were going in and out of the hotel for the day. The proximity to the downtown area and wharf can't be beat but for a little more cash, we would probably go across the street to the Portola. read more

Lovely location! My fiance took me here for my birthday. It was a wonderful surprise. We stayed at this high scale Marriott, I think it is rated an 8 on the scale, which was great, but a bummer because we couldn't use our anniversary night. My only complaints are that I would make is they need to serve water on weekends in the lobby! Also, when we checked in, they asked if we would be okay with two twin beds versus a king bed. I asked if we had a choice and the registration person said, "no." So I replied that "we have to be okay with twin beds if no King beds were available or we would have no where to say, correct?" And he said "yes." My fiance had booked a king bed, but the guy said they weren't guarantees so they had to move us to twin beds. We came a bit later in the evening to check in late (after work) so I assume they might have given our room to another reservation. I was super bummed about that. But he said we were upgraded in our room because there was a view of the ocean or something, but I would've rather had the king bed. When we arrived in the room, it did say "Elite" on it, which suggests we had an upgrade. But we were unsure if Marriott just put Elite signs on the rooms with twin beds for people like us who don't get our original king bed reservations to make us feel better. If yes, brilliant marketing! Haha. Anyways, still a super nice hotel, but this interaction was the reason I would give 4 or 5 stars. It is in the middle of downtown so you can walk places to eat. Not as much shopping, but a nice walk around. There is also a free shuttle bus that goes to the wharf and aquarium and cannery row. Thus, you don't need your car. But this is all within walking distance. We walked to the aquarium from the hotel and it was about 20 minutes. That was better than sitting in the hot shuttle!! But in case walking isn't your thing, there is a shuttle. As for parking, they have valet parking, but it can get pricey. We parked a couple blocks down the street for $7 a day. But no in and out privileges. We didn't care though because we were walking or using the shuttle so not a huge deal for us. If you tell the front desk you want to park off site, they will direct you to the garage. read more

Large typical Marriott with a mix of families vacationing and business people checking in. There's valet parking but for half the price, we parked in the garage a few blocks away which wasn't that inconvenient. Everything is within walking distance. There's a Starbucks just steps away, many restaurants and the Wharf nearby. Our room was really nice. Not really dated but you can tell it's an older hotel. The lobby is very nice. The fitness center leads to the pool and jacuzz outdoors in a courtyard. Thankfully, not with an audience to watch you from their respective balconies. The staff here are great, very accommodating and very professional! This was a great place to stay as far as convenience and overall, is a nice hotel. read more

First, request a renovated room! They have done an amazing job with their renovations and I swear the rooms are so well insulated they are nearly soundproof and sooooo well appointed! The entire experience from valet to front desk to housekeeping was above par and the bar/restaurant was also a great experience. Very convenient with downtown shuttle stop one door down, and truly in the heart of the quaint village. Once they complete their renovation and maybe improve on the pool/jacuzzi, I imagine they will be at a 5 star. I will definitely return. read more

We stayed here for the holidays while visiting family in Monterey. The hotel is walking distance to Fisherman's wharf and a mile away from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. During summer Memorial weekend through Labor Day you can take the free trolly to the Aquarium and the stop is across the street from the hotel. Downtown (Alvarado st) is also walking distance with a Starbucks on the corner in case you skip room service or breakfast at the hotel. Rooms offer complimentary coffee and tea but our room didn't have coffee mugs the first night. Room are standard. We stayed in a double queen room. After staying a few different times service seems to vary. On our third visit we decided to opt out from cleaning service in exchange for additional Marriott points. Rooms closer to the swimming pool are louder at night versus rooms away from the pool and higher up on floors. Parking is valet only or you can pay $7 all day at the city lot just the next block from the hotel. They're pretty nice about letting you dropping off things if you decided to opt out from valet. During the weekend It gets busy in the morning to find a spot to load your stuff or pick up your car so budget your time accordingly if you have somewhere to be. read more

The staff here still rocks. Everybody is polite and very friendly. The restaurant is pretty good if you're going to eat there, but there are better options around the city. The reason I downgraded to three stars is because of the rooms. They could really use some upgrading. We like to have the fan on high and the fan unit was barely blowing. The high setting was ridiculously low and quiet. The door to the bathroom is just an old sliding door and the bathrooms don't have ceiling fans. There really isn't much privacy to the bathrooms at all. Our shower faucet also leaked. But besides these things, we still had a nice stay with a beautiful view of the bay read more

We have had a loyalty to the Marriott brand for many years that is now being reconsidered. Housekeeping must be "scheduled", so we made our own bed for 3 days. Fortunately there was a housekeeping cart in the hallway to retrieve fresh towels. Forget the complimentary coffee in the lobby that was always a Marriott staple. Starbucks coffee was available for purchase, more expensive than the Starbucks shop on the next corner. For the price point, just a bit of a disappointment. Appears to cater to convention/meeting groups. I hadn't noticed the attachment to the Monterey convention center when the reservation was made. read more
