Wow just wow. Our favorite restaurant in Chicago by far and will be absolutely mandatory every time we come visit. Ham e burrata was perfect and everything complimented each other within the dish. Just wish I had more. The jam balanced out the saltiness from the ham and the cheese was great. If a restaurant has merch from a certain dish then you should def be ordering it. Got the corn pasta and ragu as well. Both good but liked the corn more. The ricotta shooter was also packed with flavor. Overall, loved every part of the meal and will definitely be back! read more

As a big Top Chef fan, I have a running list of some of the restaurants owned by the "cheftestants" and judges that I want to check out, so I decided to make a reservation at Monteverde for a belated anniversary dinner while in town recently. Executive chef Bailey Sullivan was on Season 22 of Top Chef and the co-owner also competed in one of the earlier seasons. Nate and I arrived a bit before our 9 pm reservation but were seated by our scheduled time. The restaurant was super busy and very loud! We were quite close to the tables next to us, so if you're looking for a quiet, intimate dining experience, this probably isn't it. We ordered the heirloom tomato salad, sweet corn chitarra pasta, a side of wilted escarole, and the chocolate tart for dessert. We also got a complimentary mozzarella shooter as an anniversary treat, which was incredible. The food was delicious, but my favorite dish was definitely the heirloom tomato salad, with seasonally fresh tomatoes, peaches, mint pistachio pesto, and stracciatella. It was so flavorful and bright and I could eat this every day. It was a good portion to split between the two of us, but I'd probably order this just for myself if I came back and it was on the menu (it was that good). The pasta was a nice balance of savory and sweet from the fresh corn, and I loved the texture of the bronze die extruded pasta. Service was great, with waters being refilled promptly and empty plates removed quickly. Monteverde continues to be recognized locally and nationally which made it an easy choice to visit for a special occasion. We were able to get an early evening reservation but this place was busy! The inside feels homey and casual with some beautiful architectural features like the main bar displays, wine shelving, and more. The menu is intended to be shared amongst guests to try a little bit more. For drinks, we started with Bay of Naples & Lancia Scorpione. The Bay of Naples was a bit tart for me and could have used a larger rye punch. I did love the Lancia Scorpione as it was smokey, smooth, and sweet. We later also tried the Espresso Old Fashioned & Cortina Rosa. The Espresso Old Fashioned was strong but balanced with a subtle espresso taste. The Cortina Rosa was a great gin cocktail choice! For a starter, we started with the full order of Burrata E Ham. I love that staff wear shirts showing how to make the perfect sandwich with all components. The full order was the perfect portion to really enjoy all the flavors this dish has to offer and may have been one of my favorites in the night. For mains, we shared the Cacio Whey Pepe, Gnocchetti Con Pesto, and Sweet Corn Chitarra pastas. Each dish was a good portion for two people to share and was served as the dosh was ready. All of these were a great summer pasta option as well. Everything tasted very fresh, made with quality ingredients, and intentionally put together. Staff did a great job presenting dishes and saying how to best serve/eat the pasta. End the end of the night, they gave my husband a piece of funfetti cake with marshmallow frosting. The cake was certainly taken out of the freezer but was complimentary for our celebration which was kind. Overall, this was a great italian spot in west loop. Prices were a bit high for not having protein included in most dishes but the flavors and quality are there. read more

If you get anything at all from here, make sure it's the wagyu skewer and tiramisu. It is the best tiramisu in Chicago!!! This was my fourth time at Monteverde and out of those visits, two were just for the tiramisu lol. Although this time I came mostly because I wanted their wagyu skewer and pesto pasta again because they were so delicious the last time. We came on a Thursday evening around 5:45 and we sat at the available bar seats. The only downside is it was the bar seats at the end which had no space to put my legs so I had to eat facing side ways. But I guess we got lucky because everyone who arrived after us had to be put on a waiting list for the bar. We've never had an issue getting a seat at the bar or waiting for a table. It gets crowded but service is incredibly quick so I wouldn't worry about the wait times. To start, we ordered the wagyu beef skewer and mozzarella shooters. The skewer is so tender and the flavors are perfect. We also were curious about the mozzarella shooters and ordered two because we thought they'd be small (we were wrong--they are much bigger than you'd expect lol). Personally, I didn't like it because I couldn't get past the thick texture of the liquid, but my boyfriend liked it and ate both. For pasta (which you can watch being handmade in the mirror if you sit at the bar!), I ordered the gnocchetti con pesto. I love how refreshing and light it is. It's the perfect dish to eat on a hot summer day. For a side, we chose the crispy yukon cold potatoes and they were definitely crispy!! And of course the tiramisu for dessert. Outstanding and very different Italian restaurant in the West Loop section of Chicago! We had a great pre dinner drink at the bar with a wonderful and very informative bar tender. We also had the chance to chat with a few folks eating at the bar who shared some good recommendations (lamb chop is a must). We sat outside on a beautiful July summer night and enjoyed several shareables along with some great libations! Notable dishes were the Mozzarella shooters (think gazpacho with a nice ball of fresh mozz on top), prosciutto with burrata, meatball ravioli, lamb chops, cacio Pepe, gnocchi and the escarole (had to have something green right?). My girlfriend was able to snag my friends and I a reservation with her Amex, and I couldn't be more grateful! We absolutely loved everything served to us. The Ravioli quite literally converted me, I have never liked mushrooms, but that dish ended up being my all time favorite! Everything harmonized so well without feeling overwhelming. I will be honest, simply because they set the bar so high for themselves I walked away a bit disappointed by the waygu. It was cooked well, tender, but simply didn't "wow" me like the rest. My boyfriend and I came by for a weekday lunch and, wow, it was packed. We were not used to this coming from SF, but we loved the vibes and energy. The servers were all really great as well. We ordered the burrata e ham, gnocchetti con pesto and lobster mezzaluna. We're both big eaters and we were both very full. I can't even pick a favorite dish because everything was so good. I usually find Italian food a bit too heavy and cheesy, but I feel like each dish we had was really balanced and refreshing. Haven't been back in four year but wow has it only gotten better. Our jaws were to the floor. You can't find this quality of food many places outside of Italy. The seasonal burrata was incredible. Every part from the strawberry and mustard jam to the most tender flavorful prosciutto I've ever had. Then the speciality sweet pea and sausage pasta was perfectly al dente. I got a few items and these were my thoughts: * 'Nduja arancini: This tasted like a pepperoni pizza ball (1 star off). I was expecting more rice grains typically found in arancini. * Asparagus salad: This was probably my favorite dish of the evening. The mixture of frisée, green asparagus, and white asparagus really brought out spring. The salad was a tad salty, but vibrant. * Rabbit ravioli: I liked the fresh hand-cut pasta, but the sauce was very salty (1 star off). * Gnochetti with pesto: I liked how the pesto dollops intertwined with ricotta dollops. The suggestion from the chef was not to mix everything together, and I definitely agree. Note: Monteverde adds 4% *optional* surcharge for no reason. Well, they say it's to offset the costs...so why not just add 4% to the menu prices? It's like they want to sneak that surcharge in for those who don't pay attention to the bill or presbyopic enough not to read the bill clearly enough in their dim lighting. Overall, I appreciated their creativity in making fresh pastas, but couple items were salty for me. I came here at 5PM on a weeknight and this restaurant was busy, so enough others like this place. read more

The vibes were nice with dim lighting and candles on the tables, but it was way too loud for me. Maybe because it was game night and everyone was crowded by the bar watching the game 7.5/10. The espresso old fashioned tasted like a regular old fashioned with a hint of espresso and banana. Definitely confirmed that old fashioneds just aren't for me but it was a great old fashioned 6/10. I loved the nuts and pesto sauce, and I normally don't like pesto sauce. 8/10. The lamb chops were one of my favorite dishes of the night. Perfect texture and a delicious sauce. 9/10. The gnocchetti had a perfect al dente texture, but I'm just not a pesto person. I loved the seeds, but the cheese was a little too bitter for me. 6/10. The egg yolk raviolo had great flavor, but the pasta was too soft and not al dente. 6.5/10. The tiramisu started off pretty bitter, but it got sweeter as I kept eating. I loved the crunchy topping, but I wouldn't call it the best tiramisu in Chicago. 7/10. Overall, I enjoyed the meal, but it didn't fully live up to the hype for me. The hype is real. Monteverde completely lived up to it. What impressed me most was how thoughtful the guest experience was from start to finish. Our reservation was on the patio, and they actually called ahead to let us know it might be chilly and suggested bringing a light jacket. Such a small detail, but it really set the tone for the evening. Our server, Mona, was fantastic. She walked us through the menu, shared her favorites, and we ended up ordering most of her recommendations. The wagyu skewers were incredible, both pastas were outstanding, and the meatball was an insanely good ( and huge). We were planning to order a classic tiramisu dessert, but Mona told us to try the chocolate tart, and I'm so glad she did. It was easily one of the best desserts I've had in a while. Coincidentally while visiting Chicago in April..... I came across this article on James Beard Finalists. Monteverde was on the emerging Chef category. I immediately jump on the reservation list and set myself a date. I was dining on my own (having a day on the town). I was seated at the bar. I found it to be an honor to be in the clear view of the lovely ladies making fresh pasta. Watching them in action made the experience that more exciting. Service: impeccable! Atmosphere: bustling with great vibes. Food: unforgettable! Started with: SOPPRESSATA MEATBALL mangalitsa pork, pomodoro, pecorino romano, wild oregano. TORTELLI VERDI: ricotta & farm spinach filled, ramp, brown butter, parmigiano reggiano vaca bruna fonduta, balsamico. Dessert: tiramisu Let me tell you!!!! I was not warned about how enormous this dessert was going to be. I find it funny! My surrounding patrons were laughing at me. "Good luck!" It was THE most amazing tiramisu I ever had. YET! We have been trying to get a res here for so long and it actually lived up to the hype! We came here for an anniversary dinner and they kindly offered us complimentary bubbly to start our meal! Our waiter was awesome, super helpful in recommending dishes and appropriately attentive. We knew we wanted mostly pastas so when our waiter let us know we could do a half order of the Burrata e Ham (2 little Sammy's instead of 4), it was the perfect way to kick off our meal. The jam and butter were super flavorful and came through even with all the cheese and prosciutto and you could even taste the rosemary. Next time I would tear up the prosciutto a little before putting it on my sandwich because the only down side of the dish was that I had trouble getting a good bite since the meat was a little hard to bite through. We got the gnochetti con pesto, the fuscilli ragu napoletana, and the rabbit ravioli and all three were so good that it is truly hard to rank them. I'd have to put the pesto first though since it was probably the tastiest pesto I've ever had. Don't get thrown off by the picture, the creamy green sauce is hidden under the basil and cheese. I'd put the ragu next. If I didn't know better I would've thought it was beef but the pork was so tender and tasty and there was a really good amount of meat in it, more than I would've expected. The rabbit ravioli was also really good once you got past the fact that you're eating rabbit and you could definitely tell all the noodles were homemade! Our table neighbors and waiter recommended the butterscotch dessert which was the perfect size and was pretty tasty, but not the best dessert I've had. I can't think of anything constructive to even say about this place, so I'll mention this. It was hard to get a reservation, but we did get one for 4 people but it was outside and it got quite humid and hot out there. Everything else was top notch!! To start we had the mushroom crostini's, which were so good. The goat cheese and truffle flavors mesh so well. The bread were perfectly crisped. So good. But $9 per piece! Then... The pastas were all good. I had the pesto one with a gf pasta option and it was nice. The grandi was good with the gnocchi pasta and the cacio pepe was also so good. I could only nibble the normal gluten pastas, but everyone else was happy. Someone wanted tiramisu and that was also good. I usually don't like it, but here it was fine. I think it didn't have the strong rum flavor, which made it work for me. Our server was great. Very nice and checked on us nicely. We all had a great time. We came here after I had done extensive research on where to eat in Chicago. Reservation is a must, and we went on a weekend lunch. We were able to sit outside. We got their Roman eggplant parm, tortelli grandi, and the sweet pea and sausage gramigna. The eggplant was charred for it to be paper-thin, and it was unreal how they were able to do that. It looked like a tower when it was presented, and when it was cut in, everything kind of deflated. It was kinda fun. The tortelli grandi were probably my favorite. The Sweet pea & Sausage Gramigna had a seasonal flavor that made it very delicious. It combined multiple ingredients I wouldn't have thought would have gone well. Even though we were full, we had to try their dessert. We got their strawberry-and-lemon Meyer sorbet, and it was absolutely delicious. It was lemon-forward, but the ice cream was quite pink. It was a bit confusing. I was told their lunch and dinner menus were the same, though online people mentioned there was one less item on the lunch menu. What a cute cute italian place! It was so incredibly fun to see our pasta being rolled in real time. I got the Moscato to start off and it was very sweet and light - perfect for summer. We started with the burrata and ham and the burrata was phenomenal. We also got artichoke and sunchoke crostini which was lemony and delicious! Fair warning you pay per crostini so if there is more than 1 person dining you may want to get an order for each of you. We also got the cacio whey pepe and gnochetti con pesto. Our reservation was at 4:30pm on a Tuesday. We ended up getting there a little early and spent about a half hour at the bar. We ordered an Aperol spritz and a Moscow mule. 4/5 - Burrata E Ham: We also ordered the half order of the Burrata E Ham at the bar. It was good; it reminded me of the charcuterie boards I make at home. The basil was a really nice hint of freshness compared to the creaminess of the cheese. At around 4:25p, the host called us over to get seated after settling the tab. Brett, our server, was helpful when we chose our dishes. We were seated at a highboy table, and they had hooks for purses, which I found to be a nice touch. Monteverde was also nicely decorated and the staff were constantly cleaning everything. I would describe it as industrial, Scandinavian chic. We ordered quite a few dishes between the two of us as this is a restaurant my husband really wanted to check out! 5/5 Mozzarella Shooters - it was a fun and novel app. The server suggested we take a bite of the mozzarella and then have a sip of the tomato-vinaigrette base. I really enjoyed this dish! It was refreshing and the mellowness of the cheese cut down the acidity/bite of the drink. 3/5 Cacio Whey Pepe - I should've known from the description, but this was a little too peppery and dry for my taste. I like spice and pepper, but I felt the dish was lacking in depth. 4/5 Soppressata Meatball (side) - super soft meatball with a tart pomodoro sauce! 5/5 Gnocchetti con Pesto - probably one of the better dishes of the night. Highly recommend ordering this one. The cheese to pasta ratio was perfect. Pine nuts added a perfect crunch. 5/5 Tiramisu - light and creamy frosting with delectably soft cake. Wow wow wow. Phenomenal meal!! Experienced Monteverde with a group of 6 friends so we decided to order family style so we could all try several items. The meal was nothing short of fantastic, we were all asking each other which was our favorite dish because we truly couldn't decide which was the stand out. Here's the order... Mozzarella Shooter - you gotta get this. One of the more unique things I've ordered. We loved it so much, we ordered two rounds of it lol! Burrata and ham - also incredible, comes like a build your own sandwich board. Wagyu beef skewers - delicious, however, this one is what you expected it to be so not a standout dish for the night Cacio whey Pepe - skip this one. It was good, but didn't compare to the other entree ordered. Lasagna - incredible take on this traditional dish, I loved it (don't tell my grandmother lol) Gnocchetti with pesto and pine nuts - waiter said this has been on the menu the entire time they have been open and I get why! Pomodoro - make sure to add the chile garlic oil! Whole chicken parm - hands down, best chicken parm I've ever had. And I've had a lot of chicken parm in my life. I loved the asparagus salad- the portion is great for sharing among 2 people. Any more in your party I suggest ordering a second plate because it is that good- you will want more than just 2 bites. The burrata had an interesting concept and I did enjoy the more hands on approach to eating and construction. I got the fusilli ragu for my main and the flavor was rich and bold, but the one downside was it was incredibly salty. If I order any of their pastas in the future I will just ask for less salt. For dessert, I tried the chocolate dipped forgotten cookie, which was perfect for something that felt like it was on the lighter side. This place is beyond words. I got recommendations from all my Chicago local friends and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We came on a weekday for lunch and it was still so busy, which already says a lot. Definitely need to make a reservation. We ordered the Chicago Restaurant Week menu and tried the mozzarella shooter, artichoke and sunchoke crostino, egg yolk raviolo, shrimp scampi on the half shell, and the vanilla bean panna cotta. The ingredient quality was unreal. Even something as simple as a mushroom was cooked so flawlessly. You can tell how much care and intention went into every single plate. By far my favorites were the egg yolk raviolo and the panna cotta. The raviolo was rich and silky and just burst with flavor. The flavors were great and you could tell that the ingredients were all fresh and high quality. We sat on the smaller patio outside. Just be mindful if you are going on a date on the earlier side (like 4:45/5 PM) they will seat the families with younger kids outside. A lot of the things, especially the snacks/appetizers, on the menu required explanation from the waiter/I couldn't get a great sense of what it was from the name. I figured it would be fine and that most everything should be good..which happily was the case. My favorite dish was their basil gnocci. I appreciated that we didn't feel rushed at all. I started things off with their version of an aperol spritz which was wonderful and most importantly, not too sweet. Listen to me. Listen. This place might have the best chicken parmesan in the entire world. I could be wrong, but I'm probably not. It is a MUST ORDER item on the menu. Bring a group of 3 or 4 people and share the whole bird chicken parm. The rest of the food is excellent as well. The cocktail menu is extensive and very good. Went to Chicago a few weeks ago and a friend of mine made a lunch reservation here. I knew nothing going into it, but I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since then. Our server was attentive and kind, giving thoughtful insight into our wine pairing and food choices. This food is clearly handcrafted by some incredible chefs, bakers, and pasta makers. All of the pasta is made in house and it shows. We started with the Burrata e Ham (we did a half order since it was just the two of us, which was the perfect size). It was a stand out dish all on its own, particularly the tigelle (bread), of course the burrata, and you MUST add the prosciutto butter!! I recommend cutting the tigelle in half long ways (like an English muffin) so you can make a mini sandwich with all the ingredients. Next, we had the Braised Rabbit Ravioli and Cacio Whey Pepe. Both pasta dishes were carefully crafted and surprisingly filling, given the portion sizes. The rabbit was my favorite of the two! We finished on the tiramisu which was large and amazing. Decadent and the perfect finish. This place was absolutely packed for lunch, so a reservation is definitely needed no matter the time. The vibes are immaculate! Monteverde absolutely lived up to the hype. The Cacio e Pepe was perfectly executed with incredible flavor, and the Pomodoro Spaghetti showed how amazing simple, fresh ingredients can be. The Wagyu beef skewers were tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. And whatever you do, beware the tiramisu. The portion is incredibly generous, but every bite is worth it. It's rich, creamy, and the perfect way to end the meal. The staff was warm, friendly, and attentive, making the entire lunch experience even more enjoyable. Easily one of the best meals I have had in a while! The lasagna was SO flavorful. The braised beef cheek was perfectly tender, the lemon ricotta was so light/fresh to help balance out the heaviness of the dish, and the sauce was super flavorful + a little spicy. Our group of 3 shared the tiramisu, and it was so delicious. It's the perfect ratio of mascarpone cream to lady fingers for my taste. The service was also phenomenal! Our server was so helpful and recommended several dishes to us (our group was indecisive about what to order because everything sounded SO good!). read more
