The grand finale of my restaurant week 2026 journey belongs to Petit Pomeroy: a truly welcome surprise and a treat for me on a cold Friday night. The restaurant is above the Sophia steakhouse, and within seconds of being up the stairs, you understand what the restaurant is trying to present. Class, ambiance, and moody vibes are the name of the game. It felt like eating in a French manor on a rainy night surrounded by the aristocracy. So obviously, I felt right in place. The lighting was gorgeous, and the views of the city right outside the window were the ideal backdrop for this meal. I ordered an imported cab, which was full-bodied and paired nicely with all that we ordered. The restaurant week menu was catered for you to purchase off the à la carte menu, which was fine because it was worth it. It's a $60 deal with an app, an entree, and a dessert. However, the portion sizes were more than adequate for each of these courses. For my opener, I ordered the duck confit, which was tender, flavorful, and, might I add, gorgeously plated as every dish was. I am not really a traditional duck guy, but I loved it. From there, the piece de resistance of the meal for me came out (off the à la carte menu), the french onion soup. I'm not even fronting when I say this was the second best I've had in the city (just behind Gretel). It was sweet, savory, and super cheesy as all french onion soups should be. From there, the branzino came out, which was tender in the right places, flaky in the right places, and had an amazing sauce and presentation. Similar to duck, I am not an avid seafood eater, so I have to trust a place before ordering it, and I'm glad I did here. It was also massive. I ended the evening with the creme brulee, which, if you weren't in the know, is my favorite dessert ever. This one was GOOD, and huge, so I was living. Great value for French food in the RN/ Gold Coast adjacent area. 3 courses for $48 in their prix fixe menu so you can try some of their most classics. Highlight was the French onion soup and the fries that accompany the steak frites. The salad and dessert were fine, but not memorable. Some things to note: -the bread service (baguette with butter) is not free, but it was positioned like it would be. That was kinda off putting when I saw the bill at the end (about $5) -the steak used in the steak frites was pretty tough, overcooked (asked for medium, came out close to well done), and wasn't a high quality piece of meat. Totally get why since 3 courses for $48 isn't that bad, and the French onion soup is typically $15 -we were sat promptly at our reservation time, but when we left the waiting area was absolutely packed TLDR, I'll come here for drinks and the French onion soup, and skip out on the rest. read more

A classic French bistro feel. The room is very pretty, and not too noisy. The bar looks very comfortable as well. The frisée salad was delicious, a great combination, not too much bacon. My husband had the burger, which was a double patly, toasted bun, and nice toppings. The frites were crispy and generous: I had the Branzino Provencale, the fish was cooked perfectly with crispy skins, a lovely sauce and caramelized lemon in the middle. The service was wonderful. This was me and my partner's first time trying French style food. We are always up for new and different cuisines.. The meals were very simple. I wouldn't say they were amazing or that they were even planned. It did what they needed to do if that makes sense. Now our server was an absolute delight. This was my second time at Petit Pomeroy, this experience was as good as the first. We started with the Le Petit Plateau with a slight adjustment. I asked if they could substitute shrimp for the Tuna Tartare, and they were very accommodating. One of our guests also had the escargot, and the French onion soup. Dinner is consisted of the steak frites, roasted chicken, and trout almondine. All were very good please note the roasted chicken is more than enough for two. Dessert consisted of the chocolate pot de cream, apple tart, and the crème brûlée. Overall preference was for the crème brûlée. Our server Paul was very nice and attentive, even though the restaurant was very busy and he had a number of tables we did not feel neglected. I do consider this a restaurant for cooler weather as there is no outdoor space and the decor is a lot of wood and wallpaper. read more

A terraced entryway transported me from the streets of Chicago first into a sleek and modern steakhouse on the first floor of the beautiful, new One Chicago building. To the right, the modern black decor gave way to natural wood, and a set of stairs guided me up toward Petit Pomeroy. Mid-way up the stairs, a playful statue stood holding a bowl of sweet candies for passersby. I arrived at the host stand and was briefly guided to the bar before being almost immediately escorted to my table. There were only a half dozen or so seats at the bar, although an unoccupied railing nearby could have also seated a few more ambitious diners. The bartenders -- and the rest of the staff, including our server especially -- were well-dressed and incredibly polite and friendly. I started the night with a glass of an excellent Syrah, and my partner opted for a well-made French 75. For food, we started with our very-kind server's suggestion of the chicken liver mousse. The cherries and dressed citrus provided a perfectly sweet and tart contrast to play against the richness of the chicken liver. For mains, we split the filet au poivre and the trout amandine. The filet was perfectly cooked, and the peppercorn and brandy in the au poivre sauce perfectly swaddled the meat without being overbearing. The trout was well-cooked and tasted great; however, the fish was a touch dry in places. For dessert, my partner greatly enjoyed the prune gelato, while I myself indulged in a wonderfully crisp and caramel apple tart. On our way out the door, we stopped by that playful statue for a final treat from Petit Pomeroy. Even their candies were immaculately sweet. I cannot recommend Petit Pomeroy enough. Classic French brasserie atmosphere with moody lighting and velvet seats. Excellent cocktails and wine flowing. Really helpful servers there to give recommendations. I had the Trout Amandine, one of my go-tos at a French restaurant, and it slapped!! I also had the La Belle cocktail and split escargot with the table. Again, truly up there with other great French spots. I liked how they offered a few non-traditional menu items, like the lobster roll and Cajun chicken. While we didn't try them (this time), the server spoke highly of those dishes and I'm definitely intrigued enough to come back for it. I came here for my birthday. They had my name on the menu when I sat down. The service was phenomenal. They were attentive, but gave you space to enjoy. The food was very good. We started with the French baguette and also tried the warm tomato tarte. Both were good. Then I ordered the mushroom risotto and my boyfriend got the steak frites. He loved the steak. I tried his fries they were perfectly salty. The mushroom risotto was very unique and delicious. Lastly we had the crème brûlée. I loved it! I'm picky on crème brûlée too. We grabbed an unreal BOGO on Uber Eats and can confirm that their Burger Royale and Duck Fat Potatoes are elite. Very high quality experience with delivery, too. The burger meat, all the accompaniments, the packaging, the freshness and how everything held up was incredibly well done. The staff is very aware of what is happening and it feels seamless/caring service. Came here for a belated birthday date and loved the printed menu with the birthday sign! Our service was great and quick as well. The interior was beautiful, as was the nice French music. I had a lovely glass of cotes du rhode (a French red wine), and my boyfriend enjoyed a French beer and Belgian beer. We had the escargot, which were tasty and chewy. We also got the mussels, these were in a nice light garlic cream sauce- the garlic baguette was delicious to dip with. It's a good thing the food is good here because the noise makes it difficult to have a conversation. 4 of us stopped for dinner and it was another great evening. The menu has what you would expect like the escargot, hot house baguette, chicken liver mousse, and profiteroles which we all had, and they added a 4th profiterole for our group. I thought my trout was just ok but everyone else was fine. The service is outstanding and Ryan joined our conversations and had great suggestions. The vibes are great and you do feel like you've been transported to Paris and the food is delicious... 1. Baguette - Straight out of the oven and delicious 2. Tomato Tarte- Both of our favorite dish of the night. Perfectly flaky, seasoned so well, perfect amount of salt. I will be dreaming of this appetizer. 3. Roasted Chicken- Very good, large! 4. My husband got the fish (I think it was black bass?) from the specials and very much enjoyed 5. Macaroni Gratin- Creamy and delicious 6. It seems most new French spots in Chicago are either "over the top" scale (Le Gran Boucherie, Le Select) or a modern take on French cuisine (Obelix), it's great to find a traditional "Bistro Style" venue. Petit Pomeroy is intimate & authentic, the service is beyond excellent.......and the food is reasonably priced and extremely good. It reminds me of the old Bistro Zinc on Rush Street (that closed many years back). My Steak Frites was done perfectly (rare), and the Artic Char was meaty and fresh. I started with the homemade Apple Brandy, a perfect palate awakening. I think Balyhoo Hospitality has really hit the bullseye with this one. I can't wait to go back......... read more

Very quant space. Small with a great vibe. Reservations are a must. Very limited bar seating. That being said, the staff is great. Extremely aware of their customers and noticed it was taking some time to get seated for our reservation and the manager came over to buy us a drink. We were seated about 15 min after our reservation. I missed out on the scallops but I got the burger and believe the hype. It's delicious! My boyfriend got the Cajun chicken and he cleaned the plate. We decided to try the desserts and got the vanilla crème brûlée and berry cobbler. Both were great. We live in the building so we will definitely be back. Cute restaurant that's beautifully decorated in Parisian style. Wait staff are very attentive and do try and cater to your every need. Thr Champs Elysee cocktail we had at the start was delicious - beautifully presented as well. The frisée lardon salad I had was excellent with the dressing that didn't overpower the dish. My other half had the chicken mousse and funnily enough raved about the delicious brioche it was served with. "Best I've had outside France". The 1/2 roasted chicken was also a winner. The reason why I am giving this place 4 stars is because I felt the bouillabaisse I had was lacking. It was one of the more expensive dishes on the menu and had boasted of mussels, shrimp, scallops and lobster. There was definitely plenty of mussels and a few pieces of shrimp but if there was lobster or scallops in the dish, they were so minuscule that I didn't even taste it. Basically this was a mussels stew not a seafood stew. Desserts were very good. The pot de crème was creamy without being too rich and the profiteroles disappeared very quickly. read more

Petit Pomeroy was exceptional from the moment I walked in. The staff was professional and polished, creating an atmosphere that felt straight out of Mad Men--aesthetic, warm, and perfectly lit. My waitress was phenomenal, and the baguette with butter was the best I've had. The only slight disappointment was dessert, which fell short of the otherwise impeccable experience. Since it's one of the final impressions, I had hoped for more. That said, I'd return again and again--perhaps to try a different dessert or simply skip it. Petit Pomeroy is an absolute gem of a restaurant. The chicken was INCREDIBLE. It comes with thyme jus that you pour over the chicken and roasted duck fat potatoes. The jus skyrockets the dish to another level. Insanely delicious. The foie gras was divine. It was a special on the evening we dined. If it is available, order it because it's some of the best we ever had. Escargots à la Bourguignonne Pernod Butter is everything you could ever want from a French restaurant. The Lobster Risotto was a seafood lover's dream. It strikes the perfect balance between comfort food and elevated dining. The service was superb.
