When I found out my house had black mold in one of the walls from an old roof leak, I got advice ranging from "don't worry about it" to "sell the house immediately." I also spent $2000 so a shady company could supposedly remediate the problem without actually removing any of the wall. Not surprisingly, that didn't work too well. We needed a mold inspection, and they came and did an inspection. The results were fine. One of the workers, however, did not meet the expectations he outlined for himself. It took him a lot longer to get the report back to us and we had to call him numerous times to finally get it. Ok. After numerous efforts and attempts to get ahold of Len, we finally did it. Short version: Quality of work--4*'s; Customer Service--1-2 *'s They can improve on timely communication skills. They returned our call promptly for the 1st appointment. Then the estimate took days longer than initially promised--"by Friday" became Tuesday, or the next Tuesday. A detailed line-by-line estimate took even longer. My followups for status updates or a response for action requested meant no phone/email responses for days. For every delayed response, they suggested problems with our yahoo and gmail accounts for the delay. They were late the 1st day of work and called to notify my husband. They didn't bother to call when they were late subsequent days--luckily he didn't have any morning meetings, but he was late for work that week. One day they left our back door completely wide open but locked the front door before they left. Then it became a blame game. I was speechless from fury and couldn't process such a failure of basic respect for client property. When it came time for followup work, we went with a different contractor who responded to emails within hours or the next business day. If there were delays or if he was busy during the winter holidays--he actually notified me! I'm glad others had positive experiences--our's unfortunately was not the case. We simply would not feel comfortable with friends having similarly frustrating uncommunicative experiences. read more

I haven't actually hired Montgomery Sansome yet, but I will as soon as I get the chance! My upstairs neighbor's shower drain leaked into my bathroom, and I wanted to get a quote for the damage. Surprisingly, a lot of businesses only do water and mold remediation - meaning they'd come in, get the mold and water out of the room, and then leave it a mess! I was glad to find Montgomery Sansome since they would be able to do the remediation AND the construction to put my bathroom back together. The receptionist I spoke with was very friendly and helpful, and Mike, who came the next day to look at the damage, was also very friendly and informative. He explained all of my options clearly and answered all my questions. He sent me a detailed quote a couple days later, and he even added in an extra note for me about the conditions in the bathroom, in hopes we could use that to expedite the process of getting our homeowners' association to help cover the damages. My entire experience with this company so far has been excellent, and I'm definitely planning on hiring them in the future! read more

We didn't know if we had a mold problem in the crawl space of our house so we called Montgomery Sansome. They put us in touch with Len and asked us to send a few pictures to him of what we thought was black mold. After speaking with Len, he remotely diagnosed the type of mold at NO CHARGE. Javier and his crew worked tirelessly to rid the mold that had gone rampant in my shower. Although there were a few issues that arose during the entire process, he did respond in a timely manner to address them, and did his best to dispatch a team member quickly as needed. The project also took twice as long to complete, not unusual as contracting jobs usually go. Despite having to repeat the procedure twice, the quote never changed, and it was resolved immediately. For a studio apartment, it was more of an inconvenience than I had imagined. Told that the air blower would only be audible 1-2 feet away, it sounded like airplane noise from the tarmac. It was loud enough to hear down my hall with the door closed. Not only that, but it generated heat like no other. He was unaware that they had used a larger blower than he had ordered--not his fault, but still a nuisance. (It would've been less of an issue if the work was done in a 4-bedroom house, for example.) A smaller blower was requested immediately, and was put in as soon as it was available a couple days later. It was much quieter, with a hum like a bedside humidifier. Sleeping in the next room became a lot more tolerable. On the first day, the plastic air tube had disconnected from the machine. It blew in crazy directions, forcing me to vacate temporarily until someone from the company was able to re-attach it, It was fixed a few hours later. I'd like to think that my charger was just misplaced (there was a bag of items taken from the bathroom that were put into a garbage bag that I ended up tossing into the trash) rather than stolen. But it was missing and I never found it. I raised the issue, and he offered to take it off the price of my quote, which was honored at the completion of the project. During the initial inspection to formulate an estimate for the job, he offered to re-caulk molding around my sink which had peeled away, allowing water to seep in--a potential mold problem. Though it was a simple fix, it was still a side project that wasn't included in the estimate. But he had it done, free of charge. Overall, I'm pleased with the results, notably, Javier and his team's timely response to roadblocks during the duration of the project and for just providing a plain honest and fair business practice. Montgomery Sansome is a really trustworthy home repair company I've ever seen. I was facing a terrifying situation - a pregnant wife and a toddler - all who were facing bronchial problems like asthma and eventually pneumonia. I started seeing some black stuff on the ceiling and didn't know who to call, so I asked around. Two of the companies I had called recommended a guy named Len at Montgomery Sansome. They said that he has actually trained most of the mold experts in the Bay Area at some place called the "Mold Institute". They also said that since he was a great qualified general contractor as well as a mold expert, he could be a one-stop shop. When I called Montgomery Sansome and spoke to Len, he couldn't believe the situation I was in. He did the testing immediately and had special connections at mold testing agencies, so he was able to process the results in one day whereas other companies took over a week to do it. He discovered really large levels of toxic black mold, and encouraged me to verify it with other parties if I would like. He identified the most cost and time efficient way that he could rid the house of toxic black mold and a swat team of the nicest people I've ever met descended on the house and got the stuff cleaned out. I even trusted his people to the point that I did not feel any need whatsoever to be at home when they were at the house, even if my pregnant wife and child were there. The people were amazing, and worked their tails off. They kept me notified every step of the way, and showed me the really bad mold and how extensive it was. No wonder my wife and toddler were showing symptoms! They cleaned EVERYTHING, the carpets, the mattress, the walls, and even my toddler's toys and stuffed animals. They took great care of my precious belongings and even identified the root cause of the mold - a leaky roof - and recommended a very cost-effective roof repairman who came out the next day and fixed the roof that day. This company is amazing. In February, my wife and I were moving furniture in advance of the installation of some beautiful new hardwood floors. The existing carpet was a camouflage of who-knows-what and hairball stains . As I lifted a tetris-shaped shelf, I saw a flurry of green and black spots on the carpet beneath. Mold. Black Mold. I panicked. "Surely it wasn't the "toxic" mold?" It was. Montgomery Sansome LP was the third group to visit our condo. Javier showed up within the hour window he'd given me over the phone, which was a huge plus considering one group showed up two hours late. After listening to my assessment of the situation, Javier explained what he was going to look at, what he was going to do, when I could expect an estimate, and if the estimate was approved, when they could start. Here are some of the highlights: - 5 year guarantee on their work - Employees have all been with the company for a long time (not some fly by night outfit) - Timely and considerate of my concerns. - Capable of handling the remediation and the repair. - They also handle the PRV (post-remediation verification) to make sure the mold's gone. On that last point, all the mold samples were collected by a Montgomery Sansome representative but tested by an independent lab, so there's no conflict of interest. So, why not five stars? If I had to do it all over again, I would have liked a little more warning about the cleaning products that were used. For lack of a better option, we stayed in the condo while the remediation was being done and the fungicide really overpowered us. It's meant to kill mold that can (in rare cases) kill you, so you have to figure it's potent stuff. When I called Javier, he sent someone right over to install new filters into the air-scrubbing units, which definitely helped, but it still took quite a while before the condo finally aired out. Keep in mind, every other mold remediation expert also told me I could stay in the condo while the work was being done, but it wouldn't be comfortable. I assumed they were referring to the fact that I'd have to live in my bedroom with all my earthly possessions. However, if someone had mentioned there'd be a semi-toxic smell that would probably last about a week, by hook or by crook I would have found another place to stay. On the whole they did a great job with excellent customer service. I would recommend them to friends who have mold issues, but I'd probably give any friend with a mold problem a head's up, that regardless of who they go with, they'll want to find another place to be when the work happens. read more

I worked with Len and his team on the fire restoration project on my house in Newark ,Ca. It was pleasure to work with Len and his team memeber Daniellle, They always bring positive energy to the project and with a "can do" attitude. To repair the home damage from fire, you have to deal with many parties to esatimate the damages and cost for repairs. I don't have enought experience and time to work with all parties. It was very important for me to find a contractor who can avocate on your behalf and obtain all the payments that are deserved by you from insurance comapny. I am glad that I hired Mangomery Sansome to be the contractor on the project. So that I don't have to worry/deal with insurance company because Len with many years of experience fighted really hard for me. The project was estimated $100K less by insurance. Len fighted hard for me in getting insurance carrier to pay what they owe. This includes getting plumbing code upgrade , new wire and new cabinets in the kitchen. Len also helped me convered the flat roof to pitched roof during the project. The roof conversion was not part of the fire restoration. But Len did the roof design and obtained the approval from City. By leveraged the fire damage repairs and the roof conversion, He budgeted well for me on the roof conversion. Thier level of work, price, service, honesty, and integrity were superb! These guys were professionals. They helped solve my mold issues and I no longer cough and sneeze whil hanging out at home! What a relief! The only thing negative I have to say is that it took longer to fix than originally scheduled, but it's construction. They also banged up my garage door while I was away, but they admitted fault when they clearly could've denied it. So, yes, it sucked that my garage door was dented, but they made me whole by replacing the dented piece with the original part! Something has to be said about honesty! These guys are awesome! I even explained that I did not actually need mold service, but advice from the manager or owner. I was happy to get a call back from Len, the owner.
