Best fish and chips I've had. I came in on a rainy Saturday. I was the only one in there and chatted with the chef. Super nice and friendly guy. The restaurant was cute and clean. This will be my go to for fish and chips from now on. Super light batter on the fish and the chips were nice and crisp.

This is a cozy hole in the wall where many regulars dine here and it is highly recommended by local shop proprietors. Montgomery's is family owned and the servers are friendly and attentive. I ordered the 2 piece cod and chips and chocolate milkshake. To cut down on plastic, cardboard straws are being used! My shake was very thick, chocolatey, without being too sweet. The fish was lightly battered and flaky on the inside and fries were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Truly a stellar lunch!

Ive tried them all on White Rocks water front and hands down this is the best place for halibut (not a cod eater) and chips. The batter is light and crispy as are the home fries. The halibut fresh and firm. On a rainy day you can sit inside, the large mirror makes the place bigger, brighter and reflects the view. Occasional train going by entertains the kids. I stop by and then eat at one of the picnic tables on the waterside of the tracks, ask for a box to make carry your food easier. Theres tables out front and on the side and you can have a beer if you like. Open all summer and on nice sunny days in the fall and winter. If you're driving down in the off season phone just to make sure their open. The counter staff always friendly and courteous. If its busy could take some time but for me always worth it. Make parking easy and trouble free by using the paybyphone app.

Knowing it would be a busy day, I made a reservation in advance, which I'm glad I did. This restaurant had fairly good reviews, so we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, I was a little surprised. The restaurant was much more casual than I expected, and the ambiance felt a bit dated. We ordered the half dozen fresh oysters, spinach salad, seafood linguine, and the Creole chicken. Unfortunately, the oysters were disappointing. They weren't as plump or flavorful as the fresh oysters I've had in Vancouver, and they were served with tobiko, which I've never seen paired with oysters before. It wasn't a combination I enjoyed. The spinach salad was good, although I thought it was a bit overdressed. The seafood linguine was also enjoyable, with a generous amount of seafood, though I wasn't expecting it to be made with pesto sauce. It was still a tasty dish. The Creole chicken was just okay--the chicken breast was a bit dry, but the sauce helped make up for it. Overall, I felt the prices were a bit high for the quality of the food and the casual atmosphere. It may be a good option by White Rock standards, but if this restaurant were in Vancouver, I don't think it would stand out. That said, the service was excellent. Our server was genuinely friendly, attentive, and provided the best part of our dining experience.

I have been a long time customer of DHOC. We love our oysters! The highlight of the dinner was to have Adam from DHOC set up am oyster bar at the party. It was the focal point of the dinner and a tremendous hit with our guests. Adam served, cooked and shucked raw oysters. They were all fantastic! I cannot say enough about how fun it was to DHOC at this party. We will definitely have them back again this summer. If you are hosting a party, add oysters to menu! They are the difference between a simple party vs. a fun culinary experience for your family and friends. Our friends are still contacting us to rave about the oyster bar! Thank you, Adam, for making this dinner extra special! We appreciate your hard work and excellent service! I wish I had pictures to share but I forgot to take them!

Moby Dick's is obviously a busy place in the summer, being right across from the waterfront -- but…read morein January, it's a sleepy area and the restaurant is active, but not too busy. We found the food unremarkable - standard fish, standard chips, standard coleslaw, standard tartar sauce. All fried food is pretty standard, pretty greasy, but not any better or worse than many fish & chips shops. So why a 3-star rating rather than 4-stars? First, there is there menu and pricing: What is called a 1-piece fish & chips comes with 2 pieces - all identified fish comes with one extra piece. It's a gimmick, and mostly just annoying. 2nd, there is a charge for everything -- Want tartar sauce? There are three sizes, three prices. Want to substitute onion rings for the fries? Can't do it, even with an up-charge, though you can order fish and you can order onion rings, each separately, each with its own price. Coleslaw? Yes, but not instead of fries. And the coleslaw is pricey - a good sized portion, but a substantial price none-the-less. The portion sizes are reasonably large, but the incessant a-la-carte with each item with a price - one feels nickled and dimed to death. The atmosphere - ok, 1950s-ish, nothing special. The staff, friendly and attentive, but young and inexperienced. And then there was the problem with the cooking -- we got 5 pieces of fish (ordered 2 and 1, which is really 2+1 and 1+1 = 5). Four of them were pretty standard. One was undercooked - cooked on the outer edges (under the fried batter), and raw and translucent on the inside. Yes, they took that off the ticket, so I didn't have to pay for it, but biting into a piece of raw fish with the outside so hot it almost burned my mouth and the inside uncooked - not so pleasant. Moby Dick's gets good ratings from many Yelpers, but in my view, it's not worth going out of your way for.

The sauce and the preparation of the clams and associated other bits of seafood in that dish were simply superb. Loved the use of tomatoes in the sauce. Well done. Food-wise, it was solid. I went with the schnitzel, which I'd recommend overall. It arrived nicely prepared and paired with spätzle (think German-style mac and cheese), which was rich and comforting. That said, the schnitzel leaned a bit on the salty side, so your mileage may vary depending on your preference. Service was fine but didn't particularly stand out, and the pricing felt slightly elevated for what's offered. All in all, it's a good option if you're in the area and craving schnitzel, but between the distance and parking situation, I'm on the fence about making a return trip.
